From left to right (handily, they always take the same base positions): guitarist *Hyunjung,* bassist *Arem,* vocalist *Jayoung,* drummer *Yeong Eun,* and guitarist *Iree.*
2:15 Indeed, Jayoung has a hell of a set of pipes, and she knows how to use 'em! She's also a professional vocal coach, so she has a good technical knowledge as well as practical skill.
5:00 Yeah, they're really close friends, and hang out a lot together when they're not playing or practicing. Jayoung and Yeong Eun in particular have been friends since they were at high school together.
5:40 My understanding of their songwriting process (and this may vary, but it comes from their lips) is that Jayoung tends to come up with the core of the song; lyrics and topline etc, then hands it off to the rest of the band to work out their own parts. She reasons that they know their instruments better than she does... 😜 There's a lot of back and forth, and then their CEO/producer gets involved to help give it the final polish.
6:55 Yeah, that dirty guitar screech from Hyunjung wasn't always in the song, but it's one of the additions they made when they finally officially released it on their Fighting! EP. Their evolution is very organic; a song isn't done once they've finished writing it, they'll often make changes over time as they play it, and that's noticeably true of their earlier songs (as others have mentioned, Delight is the first song they ever wrote together, even though it's not the first they released), some of which have changed significantly even _since_ their official release ("Rock and Roll Paradise" says hi 😜).
Live is where they really shine; I first fell for them properly during one of their online shows about 3 years ago, which they'd taken to doing when they couldn't get out and perform during COVID. When it's just them on a stage, having fun performing and playing together, you _really_ get pulled into the fun and the chemistry... I've been hooked on them ever since. (If you hit the "Live" tab on their channel, there are several of these livestreamed shows - you just have to skip about half an hour of pre-show streaming...)
I was lucky enough to catch them live in Seoul at a Halloween show last year, before finally experiencing the full concert in London in January... and they are _such_ lovely people, not just the girls, either, but their manager and CEO and other staff. I can't wait another year plus for them to come back to the UK, so I'm going back to Korea in July. 😜
Also, they have a new digital single, "Stand Up", dropping next Tuesday at noon Korean time (that's 4am in the UK), and an EP and physical CD coming in a couple of months, so lots to look forward to!

Thanks for your review / reaction. This song was the first they wrote together, even before their official debut: Blaze. They are Indy, not Idol and pushing rock in a country where K-pop rules, and rock is not a main-stream genre anymore is not extremely rewarding. You should check them out live, they recently put two official live videos on their RUclips channel: Fearless and Rock and Roll Paradise with Drum Solo. They are fire on stage and as you saw it, the chemistry between the members is great.

Thank you for the Rolling Quartz reaction! I love to see people reacting to some of the older RQ tracks as first time reactions. These ladies are killing it on the global stage, doing a US tour last year and a Euro tour earlier this year.

Thanks for this review, I saw Rolling Quartz in London in January and they were excellent; they played most of their MVs/singles(Azalea, Pink Drop, Fearless, Holler, etc.), interspersed with covers of White Stripes, Nickelback, Nirvana, Accept and even Metallica😮. They all look very cute but they play grunge and heavy metal pretty damn well. RQ are my 2nd favourite band after Lovebites, who I will see in London in June. Someone else below also mentioned ‘Dogma’, the all-female rock band who dress like sexy, demonic nuns; they actually sound really good too. Cheers.

Do you guys ever go outside?? Rolling Quartz toured Europe this year. You know France, Germany, and surprise, surprise the United Kingdom!!
Found them right when covid restrictions were being lifted. Some excellent covers and now originals, latest release "FearLess".
The top musicians in the band is the drummer(!!) Yeongeun. She also teaches drums.

For the record, Jayoung is also a professional vocal coach. She used to teach at IB Music Academy, but I believe she's moved on since. One of her students there was Kim Suhye, main vocal of girl group LimeLight.

I think this was the very first song they wrote together. It is on the slower side. Their first single was "Blaze" which is more representative of the overall flavor of the band. Jayoung ... yes, she can really belt it out .... she is the perfect front woman.
    More K-Rock:
    DIH (동이혼) - NOT ENOUGH
    uni(유니) 1st Single 'DIVE'
THE FIX (더 픽스) - RUSH

Yeah, Delight was the first song they wrote; if I recall correctly, the original form was about Jayoung's friendship with Yeong Eun, and it developed as the band grew.

Ive actually never Heard this song and i think they have better songs than this but this gives you a clear idea of what they are about. They do a cover of the Parimore song Misery Business as do a lot of female bands but i like the Rolling Quartz version the best. Have you ever heard of Dogma? Nuns (very bad nuns) doing rock.

  • @faizalaziz4796
    @faizalaziz4796 4 месяца назад +2

You said Nirvana, they did the cover to Nirvana too, even they brought it in their concert at least in the Netherlands on their latest EU tour. They don't have many songs yet to perform only with their songs, even 3 of their official tracks are remakes:
    - Good Night (from kpop group Dreamcatcher that also a rock base kpop group)
    - Azalea (from Maya, Korean rock singer, also derived from a poem)
    - Sing Your Heart Out (I forgot the og bcs it's an old K-rock band I believe)
They did mashup BTSxBlackpink, cover from Lady Gaga, My Chemical Romance, Zatti E Buoni, Nirvana, The Accept(?).. there's a recording of their full Amsterdam concert by megascorcher but the person was in far left side so the sound from Hyunjung's guitar (the blue-green hair) sounds overpowering but good enough for a fan cam of full concert

Sing Your Heart Out (or Song of the Heart, as the original title translates) is by Crying Nut, a Korean punk band who've been active since 1995, and are friends with Rolling Quartz.
