    I LOVE those F-units! I have plenty of F-units in HO scale brass from Overland Models lnc. I feel so grateful to own them. But, it's your AWESOME layout that grabbed my attention in this video. The layout is the "star" of this video. The scenery looks so realistic and beautiful. And your cinematography is superb! In your other videos, the layouts looks superb, too. 👍😎

    I liked this production so much, I watched it twice. Thought about it all day. As it caused memories playing in grandpa and grandma's back yard returned to my mind. Years passed on as the C.Z. Passenger train also did in the morning and at sunset. Unexpected my Grandparents asked what I wanted for my birthday? "I would like us to ride in one of the dome cars on the Cal. Zephyr. I said. And they made it happen. Now that ride has had an impacted on me more memorable than all my B-Day's put together. I would have dreams that I was the owner of the C.Z. Train. My last dream I had years ago, was that the tracks followed alongside route 66, the historic highway. Oh, Thank You! for the model looking so sharp, the sound of the diesels horns crisp and clear. Like music those f-7 units or f-9 units (not quite sure?) They have a sound that is satisfying to me.... I'm going to watch it again!!!!

      Thank you Tony. It's gratifying to know that you liked the video. I want to clarify one point -- I'm just the videographer. The Colorado Model Railroad Museum was designed and built by Dave Trussell. Dave and a large number of dedicated volunteers labored for five years to build it. It is currently maintained and operated by wonderful staff members and volunteers. Again, I just go there, shoot some video, and post it on RUclips. The CMRM is open to the public. Have been to this layout several times since it is only 30 miles or so from where I live. It is as awesome in person as it looks on this video. Amazing amount of detail and scenery. Only model train layout that I seen in person that is better, was the Minitaur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany, mainly due to the amount of animation regarding autos, truck, airplanes, etc. that is not included on this layout. Scenery on this layout is a little better overall than the Minitaur Wunderland. I think Minitaur Wunderland and Northland Z layout in Flemington, New Jersey are overall larger than this layout, although do not have specific measurements of area or amount of feet of track in layouts. Still this layout is well worth visiting if one is ever in the Cheyenne, Wyoming to Denver, Co. area since this layout is about halfway between those two cities.

      Bill Rogers I did make it to the museum in May 2018 after a wonderful day at the Union Pacific steam shop and roundhouse as part of the Cheyenne Depot Days. Unfortunately we stayed a bit long in Cheyenne and arrived in Greeley only about 30 minutes before the museum’s closing time. When we said we’d come all the way from Australia to see the layout in operation, one of your wonderful staff (sorry I can’t remember his name) stayed behind after closing and gave us a ‘back room’ tour and only charged us half price admission. I know it’s a bit late, but thank you so much for the special treatment. We went away very satisfied and talked about the layout non-stop all the way to Colorado Springs. Thank you. Next time I’ll be sure to arrive a lot earlier.

    This video is nothing short of superb in every way. The same goes for a lot of other videos on this channel. I have been enjoying several of them over and over again the past days after having discovered them. The shots are framed very well. The variation of angles, changing between stationary and moving camera is great. Even some wonderful "cab ride" cuts. I could watch an hour worth of video where the internal cab of the F7 is put on top of the track video. So great! The landscape is absolutely marvellous. The trains are running at realistic speeds. No fighter jet accelerations or abrubt stops. The signals turn red as the loco passes. Long sweeping curves, just like the real thing. I only have one question: what make are the California Zephyr cars and the F7 and PA locomotives? Walthers?

    • @billr991
      @billr991  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words. The PA locomotives are Precision Craft. The passenger cars are mostly Broadway Limited. I'm not sure about the F7s.

      Thank you very much, sir. I have subscribed, and hope to enjoy more great videos. If I may, I would like to add that I had the pleasure of operating the WP 917D not long ago, and in my eyes the EMD F7 is the most beautiful locomotive ever built. And your layout gives it the scenery it deserves. Greetings from Norway.

    • @billr991

      Thanks again. I would like to clear up one misunderstanding. It is not my layout. The Colorado Model Railroad Museum layout was built by David Trussell and a number of volunteers. Bill, I understand that, my point was before the train gets to the signal, as it approaches it the signal is red before not after.

    • @billr991
      @billr991  6 лет назад

      I had another look at the footage and did not see any signals turning red before the locomotive passed them. Could you give me a video time point where you see that happening? If it actually is occurring, the signal system is malfunctioning and we need to fix it.

    • @rrnut5828
      @rrnut5828 4 года назад

      James, all 137 signals on the layout function the same: as the lead engine is halfway past the signal, its aspect turns red. Sometimes the angle of the shot or the direction the camera is facing regarding the signal can be confusing. Signal location can also mislead. For example, near the end of the video it appears the Zephyr is roaring past a double red. However, that signal was for the westbound main (not the eastbound which hosted the Zephyr) and the lead track into the Lakeview yard complex. A few moments later the train passes under a triple signal bridge with all three aspects showing red. Again, if you were watching from beside the signal and not from behind, you'd see the aspect to initially be green. However, this part was edited out and you only see the scene after half of the power units have already passed the signal. Thanx for the opportunity to explain this. Stop by and see us and things will show more clearly. -David Trusell

  • @jamesburton7298
    @jamesburton7298 6 лет назад

    Very awesome video. My only question is why is the passenger train always going past red signal lights facing it? I know this is nitpicking, but with a layout this sophisticated I would have thought the lights would be green as the train approached.

    • @billr991
      @billr991  6 лет назад

      The signals are green until the locomotive passes them. When the locomotive passes the signal, the signal turns to red because the train is occupying the block the signal protects.

    • @billr991
      @billr991  6 лет назад

      This train belongs to the Colorado Model Railroad Museum so it's not up to me. However, streamliners in the 1950s and early sixties were generally kept in almost immaculate condition. For example, the California Zephyr windows were washed at its Denver stop before starting across the Rocky Mountains. A dirty, grimy California Zephyr would not generally be prototypical.

    • @angusmacsac
      @angusmacsac 6 лет назад

      agreed - Streamliner aside however, even the scenery throughout the rest of the set appears very "clean". Just thot it would be nice to give it even more realism and apply some weathering because it is an amazingly detailed set
