WOW... this layout is huge! I've always felt that the quality of scenery really brings the layout to life, and for such a huge layout, the quality of scenery is really pretty good.
What an incredible video. Personally, I liked the 'windshield' as it added to the impression of actually being inside the locomotive, and seemed to me to give it a more realistic atmosphere....
Great video, Bill...as always. The little "you are here" inserts really give one a better idea of where you are on the layout, and how the layout is laid out.
This has to be one of the best layouts I have ever seen. The attention to detail on the diorama is astonishing. And thanks for showing the tunnels. I think they are just as important as the visible parts. Loved it.
An incredible railroad with videography to match. By far the best cab ride I've seen. As others have said: the informational snippets and "you are there" inserts rally add to the experience! Thanks!
A "tip of the hat" to whom ever did the brilliant track laying and the very realistic Scenery in the mountain region. I also like that you guys use Hand Thrown switches in the hidden main yard, and only "appropriate" Rail Cars (No blue box junkers). I Like the realistic horn effect in the video as well! Bravo! I will definitely watch this again!
I am a retired Locomotive Engineer with 42 years service and I think this is absolutely FANTASTIC! One heck of a ride! I almost had three heart attacks, wanted to chide the Engineer for improper use of the whistle and for running up on red signals and making hummingbird stops and I wanted see the Roadmaster or Track Supervisor to report several track condition areas, lol. Great job to everyone contributing to the building and detailing of the railroad and track and for the folks putting together at the video. Thanks for showing the camera and car set up, but one of the best things, the cab interior and Barco speed indicator . . . how was that added? It really made the video. Thanks!
The cab interior was added by using Photoshop to mask the windows in a photo of an actual cab as transparent. The photo was then superimposed on the video footage in Adobe Premier Pro. The yellow signals are very bright, bright enough to overexpose the video and sometimes appear to be red. Also the engineer (me) has never operated an actual locomotive so there was a certain amount of guesswork involved :-).
@@billr991 Well, I hope you realize that I was only being "critical" in a humorous tone and that it only indicated flattery as to how convincing the whole effect was. But . . . that signal at the end of the siding after the train meet, though . . . Some people MIGHT complain about the speed recorder or cab "getting in the way," but that is EXACTLY the view I got as an Engineer. I loved it! I almost wanted to kick back, prop my feet up in front of me and catch a quick snooze when stopped in the siding for that meet. Fortunately, your meets are much better than the ones I experienced most of the time on the road, lol. I need to get back to the CRM soon -- I haven't been since 1979-81!!!
Wow. Just wow. One of the best cab rides I have ever seen. At times I forgot this was a layout. Felt like real thing. U did an amazing job. Do another video in opposite direction. Thank u so much. Going to show this to my grand son on the big screen with the volume up. Thanks again
The greatest museum layout that I know of ! Often a monotonous ride, just like the real thing. Traveling distances ! Imagine the work that's been done to create this gorgeous railroad !
Magnificent and congratulations to all those individuals who laboured to put this wonderful model railway on the tracks A great journey gys. Unied Kingdom
Many thanks Bill, photograghy is superb as usual. I was surprised at the level of detail shown, which, I think, cannot be seen from the floor of the Museum. I'd better lift my game! Quite extraordinary.
Thanks Paul. Unfortunately, the camera car had a small wire (part of a power pick-up assembly) hanging down that was catching on every turnout and bridge guard rail. That's what was causing the camera shake at turnouts and bridges. In the westbound video (coming soon) that will be corrected.
This is the best Bill Rogers vid I've seen. Advantages of this one: 1 loved the guided tour. 2. loved the notes of where we were and what to notice on the layout, that was really helpful, 3. exquisite display of benchwork and planing, 4 wonderful example of signals. I thought the loops particularly clever, getting away from the not-so-prototypical helixes. This video is so crammed full of ideas that I just marvel at it. Thanks Bill.
I watched again. Staggering to consider the effort and talent that went into every inch of this prodigious layout!! This has to be in the top 5% of any layouts anywhere.
Great show. My brother made the inside of the tunnel scenic like maybe making it into rock and whatever else he did it look great when we went on a cab ride thanks for.
Wow, that really was an impressive ride, I really enjoyed it. You can certainly tell that the designers put a lot of work into the layout and I was really impressed not only on the volume of trees but the different types of trees that changed throughout the ride. The mountain areas were done really well as was also the river scenes. I would really like to visit this location and get a full on view of the Klamath falls city buildings, you can really see the difference between scratch built buildings and kit models they are so much more unique and intricate. What I really liked was the length of the freight liner that we passed mid ride it surely had a lot of cars on it. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video.
thanks for this trip. i realy love these oncomming frighttrains, they seem to be endless. amazing layout, incredible landscapes and industrial sites. i´ll be back!
Let's put this to words...."Simply Amazing!" This layout is incredibly well thought out and constructed. The cab ride through it is incredible. Thank you for sharing. Please keep the videos coming.
I’ve been searching for these kind of videos. I like the first person view of the train inside. Looks very realistic to me. Thank you so much for this videos :)
Thank you very much for posting the track plan. I really wish videos of layouts on youtube had at least the track plan. The animation was awesome and very helpful as well.
Absolutely amazing! The attention to detail is apparent throughout. Everything; the rock, the greenery, the architecture, the backdrops, and especially the trains! Even the choice of camera was smart, it appeared to have a small aperture which allowed everything in the field of view to be in focus - the key element to making miniatures look life-size, something the guys working in VFX for film and TV have understood for a long time. There is one thing I would love to see (understanding that it may not be practical in many cases) is for the interior of the tunnels to be finished out; be it wood, concrete, brick, or just bare rock. This one detail was not an issue when you were just watching the trains from a god's eye perspective but, now that more and more professional layouts like this one are running camera trains for these POV views, that is one thing I am really missing. At any rate, damn! That is amazing work. Keep it up, guys!
of all the layouts I have seen on youtube this layout by far is my all time favourite I love what you all have done here the detailing is super amazing I .love it I am from Canada and would love to come visit there if i ever can once again love what you all have done here keep up the amazing work model railroading is the best hobby outthere
It is official, this is the best video I have seen on RUclips. I very much enjoyed riding in the front and being able to feel and see such a amazing First Person view. Thanks for sharing the ride with us.
I LOVE this layout!!! Wish it was mine! However...the FRA called and they would like to speak with you concerning some of your "alignment" issues. LOL!! LOVE the layout regardless!
Great ride. I’ve seen many of these cab ride videos and in my humble opinion, this is one of the best. And the scenery is awesome and quite realistic. Thanks for sharing. 🚂
Very cool layout & I personally appreciate the detail of stringing your powerlines the way ya'll have. It just adds that extra touch of detail & realism to the layout. So many skip those small details or say power lines clutter up the view, which I disagree with completely. Anyway, it's a sweet layout I'd like to see myself one day & a great video, thanks for sharing it with us.
They had a large train layout at the Children's hospital in Dallas and I wondered about the ability to put one of those small WI-Fi cams in the cab and maybe some in the windows of some of the buildings and running a direct channel in the hospital so that kids could watch from their rooms. I guess if this becomes a thing someone will have to make tunnel inserts.
Finding and fitting a camera small enough to fit in a locomotive cab and with good image quality and WiFi might be a bit of a challenge. It would also be good to include a power supply fed from the rails that provides clean filtered power to the camera. This would eliminate battery charging and maintenance problems. If occasionally pushing a camera around on a flatcar would be acceptable, that would be much easier to accomplish. In either case it seems like something well worth doing. Cameras inside buildings should be easy to do.
That was pretty cool. It gives me a little anxiety because a small earthquake would be devastating. So much detail and the scale is unbelievable but Realistic! . Never been into model trains but this is very impressive #Amazing!

As a volunteer this layout never ceases to amaze every day I'm there.
Awesome railroad you all have made. I like it very much!
WOW!
The addition of the insets showing the progress of the train is a great addition to an already great video
Thanks.

19:03 really superb wooden tunnel, even nicer seeing from inside 👏👏

It was very cool when i went there. It was also fun because UP tracks run just outside of the building. It’s an amazing layout.
That was friggin COOL! I always love the cab views.
Everything looks amazing, buildings, trees, bridges, and some of the best rock detail I have ever seen. Did not look like a model.
Simply incredible, WOW, such an outstanding layout......

Sitting in the Engeniners seat, the holy grail of train rides!. Thank you for showing this video!

Years of labour in this one. Stunning detail.
Amazing!
This is great. It's amazing what those craftsman of model RR layouts. I wish I had that kind of patients.
I've no words. Greetings and very compliments from Italy.
For the rest of us without your "eagle eyes", this is definitelyh the way to go. The maps & logistics are really helpful.

Nice ride. Crookedest track ever!
I should add that the "loops" are SO much better than a helix... brilliant!
Fantastic! What a ride.
so cool seeing weyerhaeuser in the layout. i was a security officer for them for a long time in north carolina
Wow, great job. Like most folks, I only know this layout from the apparently defunct PBS series, "Tracks Ahead"

outstanding! job well done!....
Wow that place looks super expensive ha ha ha ha. Absolutely beautiful work too.
Yes that is what a million dollars can do since the building had to be restored for the layout along with all the materials and trains, etc.
Well detailed nice job
Enjoyed cab ride ..very nice layout 🚂🚂
