Well, I was a timber forester with the USDA FS and bought a pair of elk-tanned 8" tops boots. Wow, those were the most comfortable boots, even shoes I've ever worn. I'm 76 now, so it's been many years since I've worn them. The boots I have now are just not nor will they ever compare to Whites! They bring back so many great memories, woods work, fire fighting, slopes, long miles. What great boots. Perhaps I should try to get another pair.
I bought White's 7-8 years ago. I didn't want a real high heel so I went with the Bullhide version of 350s in 6 inch. Perfect for me. $490 back then; about $700 now. I don't want to spend another $700 so I give these a good going over every 3 months and I keep them as dry as I can so I have my 2d pair a boots which are my Limmer hiking boots. I am on the 3rd Vibram soles on these Whites and they are now molded to my feet. Nicks may be just as good or better but I am good with Whites. THAT ARCH SUPPORT IN WHITES WILL KEEP YOUR FEET READY TO GO AT THE END OF THE DAY!
I bought my first pair of Whites Smokejumpers in 1994 . Most comfortable , best boots made , in my opinion. I've since bought another pair , and most recently a pair of their Nomad Engineer boots. I've had Whites boots on my feet literally every day for 30 years and it has been an absolute pleasure.
Two best things i ever bought for my feet , my White's smokejumpers and a boot dryer. Love my White's , they were hard for me to get broke in but now their like an old pair of slipper's .

I worked as a mechanic for the last four years, loggers never served me well in a warehouse setting. I generally would get a 1-1/2 out of a $200 pair of boots. I left my job to work as a lineman though. Since leaving I had to get myself a low end pair of Carolinas. Luckily I went with a non insulated boot. Even in the winter I made due with a quality sock. Knowing what I know now though, I am saving to buy myself a pair of Hoffman Boots as soon as the Carolinas bite the dust. Just from a few months of pole climbing I doubt they will last me a full 12 months.
I wore White's when working in the woods and logging and had several pairs rebuilt by Whites. I now have a pair of clones, nowhere as good as the Whites. Mine were custom fit to my feet, narrow size 14's
I would say Nicks are the absolute top of the line. Best quality materials, best build quality and best customer service. BUUUUT, Whites have the history, great quality and great quality craftsmanship. And through Bakers Boots you can customize pretty much all of whites boots really in depth. I own both and I love both.
Whites actually goes a lot further in their stitchdown soles. They do a stitchdown/stormwelt combination. By hand, it’s nuts how they still build them. Nicks are nice but I don’t think they go quite as far as whites in their construction. I’ve watched videos and taken a factory tour.
I would beg to differ. White actually is still better. They are worth the money and nicks aren’t. The leather is different. Whites has higher quality. Stitching is tight. I have 2005 packers where them every day. Still look good and clean up well. Solid construction. I haven’t found the same quality in nicks.
Check out darn tough socks. Work socks knee high, pricy but US made, lifetime warranty, took the excessive sweating and odor right out of my boots and COMFORTABLE.
I am in the UK and sick of paying £100 for boots that wreck your feet and socks and only last for 12 months, I have just received a pair of Whites smokejumpers that I found on Ebay for £133 + £50 shipping and taxes ( they were unused new old stock), I cannot believe the quality of these boots. I hope you guys are thankful that you still have companies that build products to such a high standard, I am just going to send an email to Whites telling them how pleased I am with their product and plead with them not to start having boots made in the Far East or reduce the quality to get the price down. If you think they are expensive just do the maths. By the way, I was lucky with these and got them really cheap but now I have seen the quality and worn them I would be happy to pay full price. You can directly say cheap Chinese without hesitation as only they make substandard products.The other countries in the Far East to which manufacturing has been outsourced by many companies i.e. Thailand and Vietnam, make quality products.
yea, White's are located in Spokane Washington, as well as three other top quality handmade competitor brands - Nick's, JK and Frank's Boots. - Also Wesco is on the Oregon coast a couple hundred miles away - Something must be in the water there.
The pain of wasting money on a poor product lasts much longer than the sting of a one time quality purchase but the quality item keeps going and going. I usually try to buy the best I can afford, most of the time. Great video and review Chris!
I own the 400vltt boots as well. They don't just protect your feet. They protect your body as well from unwanted strain. I walk straighter and my posture has improved significantly over the years from wearing White's boots. I also don't have heel pain that I normally used to have from rotating boots.

Keen...I've got 7 pairs.even when I ware my climbing spikes. Been my favorite since @05. I really don't like a heeled boot. Never could wear em. I know alot of guys swear buy em. A machinist friend of mine even wares his whites in the summer,with shorts!!! Great to see ya brutha.💚🌳👊🌳💚
Very good vid. I've been wearing White's and Nicks boots for years. Like u I've tried others (Redwing, Frye, Timberland etc.) but nothing compares to the durability, comfort and longterm value. I would never wear anything else.
I've been a Carolina boot 👢 customer since 16 or 17 lasting about 2 year's each (im 50 now) around last fall my current pair was at its end & i was given a brand new pair of chippewa yhat didn't even last a year. I think i will try a pair of whites .👢 thanks for the video
My Danners have been great. I suspect the older ones are better quality. I have two (sewn construction) pairs that are about 43 years old. I bought a pair of their Gore Tex and Thinsulate duty boots (also sewn) 20 years ago which are very warm so I seldom need to wear them. Several years ago I got a pair of their Gore Tex desert boots (glued) that are good so far. Toughest pair I have are Limmer hiking boots, made in Germany. Heavy and stiff but hard to kill.

Love it man! So many great boots companies out there! Whites boots are my favorite custom company, but would only want to get them custom fitted for that money. Right now I’m with Chippewa and LL Bean.
I hope the big conglomerate doesn't ruin White's. They are no longer a small, private, company. I just received a pair of Nick's yesterday. They look wonderful and fit great out-of-the-box. Now for the break-in....
I have seen many comments on this subject and wasnt sure what to think. I will tell you this. I posted this video and the very next day someone from whites reached out to me. The video at the time maybe had 1k views. They saw it on their own and reached out to me to thank me for the video. As a thank you, they sent me another pair of boots. They didn't need to do that. But they did, and that speaks valumes about the company they are.
I wear danners at work but I hike alot. Iv gone through big problems with hiking footwear over the years. I just got a pair of smokejumpers. I can't wait for that first hike this spring
@@KillingerUSA I'll wear them around for casual stuff until I hit the trail. I hike all the time in the summer and I always do one big trip of 20+ miles in September. This is the perfect boot for all the late spring snow and mud as well as comfortable in the dryer late summer. A little heavy but that's not a problem
To add to your tip at 22 minutes, when breaking in the boots if you have any hot spots, any spots where there is more pain, maybe a bite where the laces and tongue meet and your foot bends, add obenauf's oil to only that area - inside and outside of the leather. It will speed up the process of that trouble part breaking in. Then just wear the boots as much as possible and they will get slightly more comfortable by the day until they are literally YOUR boots, the shape of YOUR foot only.
I haven't been out on a fire since 2004😢 with the Big Bear Hotshots. But, had my White's Smoke jumpers resoled once about 4 years ago. I wear them on the weekends up here in Washington State rain, snow and summer. No complaints. I'll be loyal until I don't like their service. So yes I've had mine since the summer of 2004. Worked a hard ass season in one of the worst fire seasons in Southern California. Grand Prix fire and Old Fire just to name a couple. Plus plenty of hiking and PT in uniform running rabbit trails in Fawnskin and Big Bear wearing them. Wild Land Firefighting was the funnest abs most rewarding job I ever had. Now I'm in my 15th year serving in the US ARMY with 2 deployments. Iraq and Afghanistan. but I just recently noticed that Nick’s is now producing a tactical boot, which I am very interested in being that the army does not provide great boots, I’ve been waiting for years for whites to come out with boots that would be sufficient for soldiers, but looks like Nick’s is beating them to it. I have even commented repeatedly for years for Whites to help us out but I'm still waiting. so for now, my vote is for white boots, but when I can get my hands on a pair of Nick's new tactical boots that are meant for soldiers, they might change my mind.
No reason not to support both companies. Both are producing top of the line products. That's cool nicks is coming out with a tactical boot. I would have bought them in a heartbeat when I was in the military.
That was a great review for those who work on their feet all day. I own a pair of semi-dress (I'm not blue-collar). They're wonderful boots and I have a pair of Franks on order. I'm fortunate to live in the Spokane Area where Whites, Nicks, and Franks are located. A good pair of boots that have the arch as you described is very important if you want to keep your body in good shape for the long-haul.
Hi Chris!!😀😀 I'm going to be in the market for a new pair of boots in the spring. So I might have to check them out. I've been running Georgia boots for a few years now. My first pair lasted 5years years and were fantastic so I bought another pair and they have only lasted two years and are just junk. I only wear them about 7 to 8 months a year. In the winter I have been running a pair of Irish Setter insulated boots. They have stood up great so far. This is going to be the fifth winter on them and they are still in great shape. Fellow mechanic here and I have gone through all the boots like you described. I have a few questions about these boost but my #1 question is how is the slip resistance on the polished concrete covered in oil,coolant and solvents with the logger tread???
Have never slipped on anything. Traction is really good. Obviously I still use caution but never had an issue. I also have never had the sole or leather break down due to oil and chemicals.

I have a pair of White’s smoke jumpers bit I wanted a steel toe because at the time my job demanded I wear steel toes . I also wanted the honey vibram sole and working on concrete everyday they are comfortable.
I got a Peet boot dryer a few months back, and can't recommend it enough. Keeps my boots dry , warm at 1:30 in the morning when I get up for work, and stink free. I'm not in a position to spend $450+ on one pair of boots, but I don't question it one bit. Your feet are worth it, my $200 justin conductor's are good to me and I can get 1.5 years out of them before a resole is necessary but I fully understand the value in a rock solid pair of PNW boots from whites Nicks or Wesco.
I can’t do typical mass produced off the shelf boots due to long narrow feet. I would’ve gladly paid $300 for a third pair of Redwing 899s but they stopped making them. Like the video say, no insulation just leather. I got about 4 years average out of them. Before that I went with cheap poor fit boots but as I get older in order to keep doing my job in steep difficult terrain I need a near perfect fit. The 899s were pretty good but not great. I ordered a pair of Nicks Builder Pros in custom fit and they ruined my desire to ever wear a cheap boot again. The fit is awesome (really helpful on steep slopes), the leather is heavier, they don’t need conditioner very often because they stay in good shape. It is hard to make them look old or used. Mine are smooth over rough out. I hit the rough out with an axe, can’t find the mark now. I followed Nick’s recommended break in procedure, they are great. Redwing’s solution to too wide boots is a stupid twist thing, just tighten the laces more, doesn’t work for me.
White’s boots when I am working in the dirt. Thorogood wedge heel on concrete(I would use Redwing but, my neanderthal feet do not fit Redwings). The main problem I have with top tier footwear or any footwear is ice melt. That stuff can eat away at the stitching fast.
My second pair of White's has shipped. Got the Perry first, not for work. For work, I've got the Millwright Steel toe coming. Factory, concrete floors, lots of walking, some standing, plenty of stand up fork truck. My second option is something from Nick's Boots, eyeballing the Builder Pro steel toe, maybe the Wedge Worker with a steel toe.
I’ve had a pair of custom whites for several years.. I love them.. However I’m curious about Nicks now. What’re your reservations towards Nicks? I’ve heard they have a more thorough fitting system but just to get them to view your completed fitting sheet is $45. Not a fan of that. Great video Killer. Love me a good boot video :)
So I have a pair of Nicks that fit real well. I did not do the try on pair, only the fit sheet. My wife helped me with the measurements and we did them multiple times to make sure we got them right. Make sure you wear the type of socks you'd be wearing with them. Best fitting boots i own. Great purchase for sure.
Axe a dents 😂 I know what you are saying about good boots, but you know everyone feet are diffrent. I am running the scoffed Redwing boots are $300+ ESD, puncture resistant plates in the sole, hydraulic oil, slip resistant, gortex, steel toe. I can get 3+ years out of them with out with out doing anything to them. You get what you pay for.👍👊🧡
I've worn out alot of boots on shop floors, grease, oil, etc. and i spend about $200 bucks a pair. I've heard of White's boots but never pulled the trigger. If i could find a place that had them so i could try a pair on, i would probably buy them. I gave up buying cheap shoes years ago, my back is bad enough as it is!
Wranglerstar has moved on to Nicks, then Franks Boots. Frank ran Nicks for like 20 yrs before starting his own and is located in Nicks old location in Spokane.

Chris- Are the soles hard and slippery? I had a pair many years ago and they seamed like the soles were hard and slippery when stepping on rocks and logs. I need a new pair of boots and I think I might try another pair again.
I love Pacific Northwest built boots like this, I have a pair of nicks builder pros and I’ve heard whites are about on par with them, they’re not just boots, they’re an investment

I don't think I have ever tried it? I like obenaufs because it's a wax based product. Makes me feel like it adds some stability to the leather, if that makes sense.

I agree, Whites make really good boots. There will be some sacrifice to break them in though, but that's also true with Drews, Nicks, and Wesco. They are all really good work boots.
I've had a lot of decent boots over the years... and a few "name brand" that turned out to be crap. I finally stepped up to great boots... In my current rotation I've got a pair of White's Outdoorsman (looks like they discontinued that model) and just got a pair of Nick's Builder Pro. The White's were off the shelf and I've had problems with my toes getting creamed. While they are in my "normal size" they are lined with a water proof bootie and lack an arch. I think the problem is my foot moves around too much. With that experience I got a bespoke pair of Nick's Builder Pro. I'm still breaking them in but with the last selected and modified for my feet they are proving to be very good. That said, I'd go the bespoke route if you are looking at great work boots... Nick's or White's. After examining your foot measurements they send a pair of try boots and you talk to them about the fit. Yes it adds time to the delivery but so far I've got no regrets.
@@KillingerUSA If you are not in a hurry they have specials where it costs you no more money to get them custom built than the off the shelf boots cost. You will pay in lead time to receipt though!
I have never owned a pair of whites I have always worn west coast. The problem with west coast is they cripple you until you can get them broken in then they are the toughest boot I have ever owned. I have always wanted to try a pair of whites I just never have.

Im in the same boat. I have a oair of red wing usa made loggers with a liner and in the summer my feet are on fire where i work here in colorado and Arizona! Any liner in a boot is a no go for me! Its the first thing to tear and the rest of the boot is useless.
I’m not sure about this but once you buy a nice pair of boots and you return them they’re considered used if there’s any sign that they began to break in. Even if you only wore them around the house a little bit
I’ve tried to guess what you did for a living. My best guess was welder. I’m a shoewalker. If I have to wear boots I will, but I’m much more comfortable in hiking shoes.
I mention it from time to time in the channel. I had thoughts about making a mechanic channel, but I hate it so no point in making myself more miserable! Haha!

Smoke jumpers are great. Nicks Builderpro amd Wesco Jobmaster are equal in comparison. Standard Jobmasters are about 100 dollar cheaper. Builderpro comes with rough out leather in stock model.
I love my whites boots as well, I have 2 pairs of semi dress, 2 pairs of there lace to toe 6" boots. But I think Franks boots a little better, there in Spokane as well.

They are not steel toe. Just better leather and the sole sticks out in the front quite a bit. This gives a good place for your toe to rest while kneeling.
Next time you wear a hole through the sole, you should take it to a cobbler and get it resoled. Usually a resole is a lot less than a brand new pair, and you'll save a lot of money in the long run getting them rebuilt than buying new every time
I just went to replace my redwings and tbh the quality is not what it use to be very disappointed.. and I notice they read made in Vietnam now which probably where the quality got lost..
I just bought my 16-year-old his first pair of Nick's boots. We live local to the factory so I took him down and got him fitted right there in their store. He's in a trade school for half of his high school day in a building and construction program. His class is currently building a house for Habitat for Humanity. I originally was going to get him a pair for his high school graduation, then bumped it up to Christmas. But with winter coming I wanted to make sure he had quality footwear while working outside. I'm teaching him how to moisturize and shine them. If he takes care of them they'll last a lifetime. And if he doesn't take care of them, I'll beat his ass. I already gave him that spiel.

I would say Nicks are the absolute top of the line. Best quality materials, best build quality and best customer service. BUUUUT, Whites have the history, great quality and great quality craftsmanship. And through Bakers Boots you can customize pretty much all of whites boots really in depth. I own both and I love both.
I wouldn't mind picking up a pair of Nick's at some point. I'm sure they are all on par with each other
Whites actually goes a lot further in their stitchdown soles. They do a stitchdown/stormwelt combination. By hand, it’s nuts how they still build them. Nicks are nice but I don’t think they go quite as far as whites in their construction. I’ve watched videos and taken a factory tour.
I would beg to differ. White actually is still better. They are worth the money and nicks aren’t. The leather is different. Whites has higher quality. Stitching is tight. I have 2005 packers where them every day. Still look good and clean up well. Solid construction. I haven’t found the same quality in nicks.
I also hate any liner, because its always the first thing to break. once I wear through it it causes blisters.
Check out darn tough socks. Work socks knee high, pricy but US made, lifetime warranty, took the excessive sweating and odor right out of my boots and COMFORTABLE.
I do own a few pairs of those. Good socks!
I am in the UK and sick of paying £100 for boots that wreck your feet and socks and only last for 12 months, I have just received a pair of Whites smokejumpers that I found on Ebay for £133 + £50 shipping and taxes ( they were unused new old stock), I cannot believe the quality of these boots. I hope you guys are thankful that you still have companies that build products to such a high standard, I am just going to send an email to Whites telling them how pleased I am with their product and plead with them not to start having boots made in the Far East or reduce the quality to get the price down. If you think they are expensive just do the maths. By the way, I was lucky with these and got them really cheap but now I have seen the quality and worn them I would be happy to pay full price. You can directly say cheap Chinese without hesitation as only they make substandard products.The other countries in the Far East to which manufacturing has been outsourced by many companies i.e. Thailand and Vietnam, make quality products.

yea, White's are located in Spokane Washington, as well as three other top quality handmade competitor brands - Nick's, JK and Frank's Boots. - Also Wesco is on the Oregon coast a couple hundred miles away - Something must be in the water there.
The pain of wasting money on a poor product lasts much longer than the sting of a one time quality purchase but the quality item keeps going and going. I usually try to buy the best I can afford, most of the time. Great video and review Chris!

I own the 400vltt boots as well. They don't just protect your feet. They protect your body as well from unwanted strain. I walk straighter and my posture has improved significantly over the years from wearing White's boots. I also don't have heel pain that I normally used to have from rotating boots.

Very good vid. I've been wearing White's and Nicks boots for years. Like u I've tried others (Redwing, Frye, Timberland etc.) but nothing compares to the durability, comfort and longterm value. I would never wear anything else.
I've been a Carolina boot 👢 customer since 16 or 17 lasting about 2 year's each (im 50 now) around last fall my current pair was at its end & i was given a brand new pair of chippewa yhat didn't even last a year. I think i will try a pair of whites .👢 thanks for the video
Carolina boots are comfortable out of the box but with hard use they go from broken in to worn out extremely quickly.

My Danners have been great. I suspect the older ones are better quality. I have two (sewn construction) pairs that are about 43 years old. I bought a pair of their Gore Tex and Thinsulate duty boots (also sewn) 20 years ago which are very warm so I seldom need to wear them. Several years ago I got a pair of their Gore Tex desert boots (glued) that are good so far.
Toughest pair I have are Limmer hiking boots, made in Germany. Heavy and stiff but hard to kill.

If it Nicks out of Spokane they will be very similar to whites, my understanding is nick was a former employee of whites. I would take either one.

I hope the big conglomerate doesn't ruin White's. They are no longer a small, private, company. I just received a pair of Nick's yesterday. They look wonderful and fit great out-of-the-box. Now for the break-in....
I have seen many comments on this subject and wasnt sure what to think. I will tell you this. I posted this video and the very next day someone from whites reached out to me. The video at the time maybe had 1k views. They saw it on their own and reached out to me to thank me for the video. As a thank you, they sent me another pair of boots. They didn't need to do that. But they did, and that speaks valumes about the company they are.

I wear danners at work but I hike alot. Iv gone through big problems with hiking footwear over the years. I just got a pair of smokejumpers. I can't wait for that first hike this spring

@@KillingerUSA I'll wear them around for casual stuff until I hit the trail. I hike all the time in the summer and I always do one big trip of 20+ miles in September. This is the perfect boot for all the late spring snow and mud as well as comfortable in the dryer late summer. A little heavy but that's not a problem
To add to your tip at 22 minutes, when breaking in the boots if you have any hot spots, any spots where there is more pain, maybe a bite where the laces and tongue meet and your foot bends, add obenauf's oil to only that area - inside and outside of the leather. It will speed up the process of that trouble part breaking in. Then just wear the boots as much as possible and they will get slightly more comfortable by the day until they are literally YOUR boots, the shape of YOUR foot only.

Another great leather dressing is Skidmores out of Laramie, WY. I use both on all my leather goods and have no complaints about either.
What size are you in other shoes? I have a pair of wescos and a nine fits great. I am not sure it the sizing between Wesco and whites is similar.

I haven't been out on a fire since 2004😢 with the Big Bear Hotshots. But, had my White's Smoke jumpers resoled once about 4 years ago. I wear them on the weekends up here in Washington State rain, snow and summer. No complaints. I'll be loyal until I don't like their service. So yes I've had mine since the summer of 2004. Worked a hard ass season in one of the worst fire seasons in Southern California. Grand Prix fire and Old Fire just to name a couple. Plus plenty of hiking and PT in uniform running rabbit trails in Fawnskin and Big Bear wearing them. Wild Land Firefighting was the funnest abs most rewarding job I ever had. Now I'm in my 15th year serving in the US ARMY with 2 deployments. Iraq and Afghanistan. but I just recently noticed that Nick’s is now producing a tactical boot, which I am very interested in being that the army does not provide great boots, I’ve been waiting for years for whites to come out with boots that would be sufficient for soldiers, but looks like Nick’s is beating them to it. I have even commented repeatedly for years for Whites to help us out but I'm still waiting.
so for now, my vote is for white boots, but when I can get my hands on a pair of Nick's new tactical boots that are meant for soldiers, they might change my mind.
No reason not to support both companies. Both are producing top of the line products. That's cool nicks is coming out with a tactical boot. I would have bought them in a heartbeat when I was in the military.
That was a great review for those who work on their feet all day. I own a pair of semi-dress (I'm not blue-collar). They're wonderful boots and I have a pair of Franks on order. I'm fortunate to live in the Spokane Area where Whites, Nicks, and Franks are located. A good pair of boots that have the arch as you described is very important if you want to keep your body in good shape for the long-haul.

I'm going to be in the market for a new pair of boots in the spring. So I might have to check them out. I've been running Georgia boots for a few years now. My first pair lasted 5years years and were fantastic so I bought another pair and they have only lasted two years and are just junk. I only wear them about 7 to 8 months a year. In the winter I have been running a pair of Irish Setter insulated boots. They have stood up great so far. This is going to be the fifth winter on them and they are still in great shape.

Fellow mechanic here and I have gone through all the boots like you described. I have a few questions about these boost but my #1 question is how is the slip resistance on the polished concrete covered in oil,coolant and solvents with the logger tread???
Have never slipped on anything. Traction is really good. Obviously I still use caution but never had an issue. I also have never had the sole or leather break down due to oil and chemicals.

I have a pair of White’s smoke jumpers bit I wanted a steel toe because at the time my job demanded I wear steel toes . I also wanted the honey vibram sole and working on concrete everyday they are comfortable.

I got a Peet boot dryer a few months back, and can't recommend it enough.
Keeps my boots dry , warm at 1:30 in the morning when I get up for work, and stink free.
I'm not in a position to spend $450+ on one pair of boots, but I don't question it one bit.
Your feet are worth it, my $200 justin conductor's are good to me and I can get 1.5 years out of them before a resole is necessary but I fully understand the value in a rock solid pair of PNW boots from whites Nicks or Wesco.
I can’t do typical mass produced off the shelf boots due to long narrow feet. I would’ve gladly paid $300 for a third pair of Redwing 899s but they stopped making them. Like the video say, no insulation just leather. I got about 4 years average out of them. Before that I went with cheap poor fit boots but as I get older in order to keep doing my job in steep difficult terrain I need a near perfect fit. The 899s were pretty good but not great. I ordered a pair of Nicks Builder Pros in custom fit and they ruined my desire to ever wear a cheap boot again. The fit is awesome (really helpful on steep slopes), the leather is heavier, they don’t need conditioner very often because they stay in good shape. It is hard to make them look old or used. Mine are smooth over rough out. I hit the rough out with an axe, can’t find the mark now. I followed Nick’s recommended break in procedure, they are great.
Redwing’s solution to too wide boots is a stupid twist thing, just tighten the laces more, doesn’t work for me.
Hard to go back after you have a pair of quality boots.
White’s boots when I am working in the dirt. Thorogood wedge heel on concrete(I would use Redwing but, my neanderthal feet do not fit Redwings).
The main problem I have with top tier footwear or any footwear is ice melt. That stuff can eat away at the stitching fast.

My second pair of White's has shipped. Got the Perry first, not for work. For work, I've got the Millwright Steel toe coming. Factory, concrete floors, lots of walking, some standing, plenty of stand up fork truck.
My second option is something from Nick's Boots, eyeballing the Builder Pro steel toe, maybe the Wedge Worker with a steel toe.

I’ve had a pair of custom whites for several years.. I love them.. However I’m curious about Nicks now. What’re your reservations towards Nicks? I will say I have enjoyed my Wesco boots and would not hesitate to order them again.
So I have a pair of Nicks that fit real well. I did not do the try on pair, only the fit sheet. My wife helped me with the measurements and we did them multiple times to make sure we got them right. Make sure you wear the type of socks you'd be wearing with them. Best fitting boots i own. Great purchase for sure.

I am running the scoffed Redwing boots are $300+ ESD, puncture resistant plates in the sole, hydraulic oil, slip resistant, gortex, steel toe. I can get 3+ years out of them with out with out doing anything to them. You get what you pay for.👍👊🧡

I've worn out alot of boots on shop floors, grease, oil, etc. and i spend about $200 bucks a pair. I've heard of White's boots but never pulled the trigger. If i could find a place that had them so i could try a pair on, i would probably buy them. I gave up buying cheap shoes years ago, my back is bad enough as it is!

Wranglerstar has moved on to Nicks, then Franks Boots. Frank ran Nicks for like 20 yrs before starting his own and is located in Nicks old location in Spokane.

Chris- Are the soles hard and slippery? I had a pair many years ago and they seamed like the soles were hard and slippery when stepping on rocks and logs. I need a new pair of boots and I think I might try another pair again.

I don't think I have ever tried it? I like obenaufs because it's a wax based product. Makes me feel like it adds some stability to the leather, if that makes sense.

I agree, Whites make really good boots. There will be some sacrifice to break them in though, but that's also true with Drews, Nicks, and Wesco. They are all really good work boots.

I've had a lot of decent boots over the years... and a few "name brand" that turned out to be crap. I finally stepped up to great boots... In my current rotation I've got a pair of White's Outdoorsman (looks like they discontinued that model) and just got a pair of Nick's Builder Pro. The White's were off the shelf and I've had problems with my toes getting creamed. While they are in my "normal size" they are lined with a water proof bootie and lack an arch. I think the problem is my foot moves around too much. With that experience I got a bespoke pair of Nick's Builder Pro. I'm still breaking them in but with the last selected and modified for my feet they are proving to be very good. That said, I'd go the bespoke route if you are looking at great work boots... Nick's or White's. After examining your foot measurements they send a pair of try boots and you talk to them about the fit. Yes it adds time to the delivery but so far I've got no regrets.

@@KillingerUSA If you are not in a hurry they have specials where it costs you no more money to get them custom built than the off the shelf boots cost. You will pay in lead time to receipt though!
I have never owned a pair of whites I have always worn west coast. The problem with west coast is they cripple you until you can get them broken in then they are the toughest boot I have ever owned. I have always wanted to try a pair of whites I just never have.

Im in the same boat. I have a oair of red wing usa made loggers with a liner and in the summer my feet are on fire where i work here in colorado and Arizona! Any liner in a boot is a no go for me! Its the first thing to tear and the rest of the boot is useless.
I’m not sure about this but once you buy a nice pair of boots and you return them they’re considered used if there’s any sign that they began to break in. Even if you only wore them around the house a little bit

Smoke jumpers are great. Nicks Builderpro amd Wesco Jobmaster are equal in comparison. Standard Jobmasters are about 100 dollar cheaper. Builderpro comes with rough out leather in stock model.

They are not steel toe. Just better leather and the sole sticks out in the front quite a bit. This gives a good place for your toe to rest while kneeling.

I dont know about a million, but I have spent a lot if time in the woods and wish it was more.
I wear redwings and replace them every two years. Same problem every time. A hole develops in the heel leather.
Next time you wear a hole through the sole, you should take it to a cobbler and get it resoled. Usually a resole is a lot less than a brand new pair, and you'll save a lot of money in the long run getting them rebuilt than buying new every time

I just went to replace my redwings and tbh the quality is not what it use to be very disappointed.. and I notice they read made in Vietnam now which probably where the quality got lost..

I just bought my 16-year-old his first pair of Nick's boots. We live local to the factory so I took him down and got him fitted right there in their store. He's in a trade school for half of his high school day in a building and construction program. His class is currently building a house for Habitat for Humanity. I originally was going to get him a pair for his high school graduation, then bumped it up to Christmas. But with winter coming I wanted to make sure he had quality footwear while working outside. I'm teaching him how to moisturize and shine them. If he takes care of them they'll last a lifetime. And if he doesn't take care of them, I'll beat his ass. I already gave him that spiel.
