MOZA HGP shifter review: Time for my first heel/toe gear change

- This is a video review of the HGP stick shift peripheral from MOZA. This is not a sponsored video but, for full disclosure, I have done a sponsored video with MOZA in the past. I'm just being frank about my thoughts on the shifter and its neat 'auto-blip' feature. This is a review unit provided by MOZA without any coverage stipulations other than not posting before the release date.

BTW: I have NEVER used heel and toe for any of my world records. I just blip the throttle with my right foot while I brake with my left (I completely ignore the clutch when downshifting). Obviously, that would be bad for the gearbox in reality (actually, it hurts the gearbox in simulation as well but you don't have to worry about that because with a push of a button, you have a free new car instantly).
Great video man, thanks a lot! It's great to see you racing and commenting on what you're doing at the same time, it's very informative! Would it be possible to make other gameplay videos of pure racing/driving please, with an angle of view on the shifter and another one on the pedals to see your techniques with your feet? That would be awesome! :D
Hey, Constantin, thanks very much :) The answer is ‘yes’, and I’d really like to do that, but I can’t just yet. I fully intend to get a proper rig but it’ll take a little time. Until then, my setup isn’t secure enough to do this sort of thing justice. As soon as it is, yes, I’ll do a more in-depth video, and just about driving :)

What kind of a proper rig are you planning to get? I have opted for the GT Omega Titan that actally should arrive to me by tomorrow! HI Ralonso - that's so cool, I'm excited for you! I hope you have an awesome time with it. I haven't decided what I'll get yet, I need to move house first and then I'll see what space/money I can afford. But it will be something nice and solid, I'm sure of that :) And yes, I'll definitely make a video when I get it. Enjoy yours!
I got my R9 right around the time you did your review on it And if you're looking into a new sim rig I recommend the one I got Which is the F-GT from Track Racer. It's done quite well for me. It was $500 It comes with a decent seat which is usually at least $250 add on And usually isn't included with sim rig. And with a couple of wrench twists you can switch your seating position from formula to upright GT. The shifting mount is pretty sturdy also I have my shifter and my load cell handbreak mounted to it and it does a really good job holding it. I would look at all brands just to make sure but value wise at the time this F-GT wasn't the cheapest but it gave me the most variety Of driving styles that I could get into and when I was 1st starting I didn't know which kind of racing I would like most. Some of the companies I'd recommend the most off the top of my head would be PlaySeat, 6Sigma, Track Racer and SIM lab
Wow thanks so much for the advice, that's really kind. That does sound like a good, versatile rig, and I have to say I hadn't considered the various seating positions, I just assumed I'd go for the most comfortable, but that's not very realistic, is it? Haha. $500 is a lot, though I do wonder if the seat part of my GameRacer Pro could be salvaged. It's still in remarkably good shape considering it's some 15 years old now. But I'm not sure the bottom would connect to another frame. I'll have a look. But great, I'll certainly take your advice into consideration when I get the space (and money) to do it. @@CatGoneCrazy If you can't tell I'm overly excited about my new hobby, The F-GT is the thinnest rig they have but if you're looking for space saving they have a lawn chair looking fold up rig called the F-GT lite. I know they are expensive but track racer have been pretty generous to content creators and ur channel is not small, they might throw u one for a review. I'm sorry I just feel like you're losing a lot of the experience with everything moving on you
@@bearsjunky23hof88 Yeah I am - this seat used to have a pedal board but it was deliberately angled upwards and just hurt my knee to use it. A review sample may well be a possibility, yes, though I simply haven’t room at the moment. Soon, I hope :) And I’m glad you’re having so much fun!
I have this shifter and the srp Moza pedals.
The shifter is working great but I can’t get the auto downshift blip feature to work.
I have activated the auto blip feature in the Moza pithouse app but it doesn’t seem to work when I’m playing assetto corsa.
Any idea why auto blip is not working ? Thnx
I believe you have to be on the brakes and with the clutch in for it to work. I’m not sure why else it wouldn’t be kicking in. Make sure every element is fully updated in the app too.
How long did it take for you to get your from the day you ordered it.
