    Funny, everyone I have met in person who rides just loves riding, loves bikes, and doesn't judge... But get onto the internet, and everyone is an expert, with their fingers ready to criticize anyone who's philosophy doesn't agree with theirs.
    Some of the tips people have given have been good, and I even started posting vids of me riding specifically for that purpose, to get riding tips,,, but otherwise most of the comments here are just from jerks.
    Most pro riders agree that a 1000cc is often too big of a bike for a lot of tracks, and 600 just as fast in the right hands. 99% of riders will NEVER take their 1000cc bike (or 600 for that matter) to the limit. And I personally think anyone trying to do that on the street is mad. So by that, 1000cc is too much bike for most people. So why do they even sell them? And sell a LOT of them?
    Because people are passionate about this stuff. Like the guy says, he's dreamed of owning a bike as long as he can remember, and clearly loves the R1 above any other bike, so why not get it? Coz people on the net said he should start on a 300, then 500, then 600, then do track days, then tweak the bike, then after spending 10's of thousands of dollars if he finally thinks he is now worthy of that pinacle of bikes, the 1000cc,,, THEN he can get his dream bike???
    God forbid we start living in a world where we work hard towards things we are passionate about, but then just pass up on our dreams because some stranger on the net might think we aren't worthy of it.
    This guy is the sort of person I love meeting when out riding.. Rides for the love of riding, and rides a bike that he bought because he loves it. Not because it's the bike some random dude who has never met him expects him to buy.
    I started on an R3 because I had no experience of riding, loved the look of the bike, and wanted something light and low powered that wouldn't intimidate me. I'm a bit of a pussy that way and my survival instincts literally wouldn't let me look at a more powerful bike. (though I feel like i'm ready for one now)
    But this dude isn't me so what the f'ck do I know about what is best for him?
    I bet when the camera is off and he isn't 'puttering' around town trying to make a a youtube video, he's enjoying the f'k out of that bike with a grin from ear to ear.
    Nuff said.
    More of guys like him out on the road,,, less of the guys who always know what is best for someone else.

    Congrats, dude. I was just like you. I wanted a sport bike for years, but never bought one. Then I woke up one morning with a fairly serious problem with one of my eyes that luckily was resolved with surgery. That episode made me realize that if there were things I wanted to do in my life, I needed to do them while I was still physically able. So...I went out and bought a brand new 2018 ZX-10R, took the MSF basic course, and never looked back. Like you, I absolutely love my bike. I clocked almost 4,000 miles last Summer and feel completely comfortable riding it. When people say you need to start on a small bike, what they mean is that THEY couldn't handle a big bike as their first. Everyone is different. If you have decent coordination, patience, and self-control, you can start on anything.

    I made the mistake of getting a "beginner" bike as my first motorcycle. I was 17 and it was a 2012 ninja 650. I was excited at first but i quickly grew tired of it. The seating position, the sound, the power.. This was a NEW bike and I had it for 6 months before trading it off on an '03 R1. I lost about 4k in the deal but it was the best decision I ever made. So I tell everyone who wants a bike to buy want they want, not what someone else wants you to get. Unless they are paying for it, you decide.

    First "road bike" was a 2015 R6. One year later I was a proud owner of a 2016 R1. Do yourself a favor. If you've been riding since you were young skip the 600cc class. My first bike was a Honda XR80. If you have experience with motorcycles skip the 600 class. I know eveyone tells you to start with 600 or less but its meaningless. A 1k vs a 600 is really not a huge deal. If you respect the power of these bikes you'll be ok. Just dont be stupid and youll be fine. Liter bikes are safer. They come with more features and they give power in the lower RPM's which lets you avoid crashes. Up to you. I had a blast with my R6. They are GREAT bikes. But R1's are the end goal.

    • @johnnychimpo3825
      @johnnychimpo3825 6 лет назад +1

      In terms of being able to get around town without crashing, sure 1000s are fine for beginners. But if someones goal is to be able to handle the bike for what they are, "sport bikes" you should probably start on 600 max. But if you are cool with not getting low and not being able to fully use the acceleration in the canyons or at the track then go for the 1000!

      The middleweight segment is easily the best overall segment. I'm 6'5 and 255 lbs. Middleweight bikes are more than fast enough as it is. I'd much rather have a bike I can wring out the first 2-3 gears on and still stay near 80mph than a bike which will be constantly trying to wheelie and hit 100+ in second or third gear
      Sure, one is more fun when you can really hit it. Is it more overall fun? No. If you ask me, literbikes are just about the opposite. Babying the throttle is not fun riding

    Starting on that r1 you will never build the skills necessary to be a great rider as it’s too easy to feel invincible. You’ll mistake the computers for your own skills. Clutch control is a start but you need to know smooth downshifting, correct hand position and throttle control, weight distribution, emergency stops. It’s a lot to take in when you start and causes extremely bad habits when you start on a machine you can’t handle. I started on a 98 blackbird and I’ll tell you that was a mistake. I’m lucky, I still have the bike and I’ve picked up two others. Riding for years now and im alive. False hopes to say “buy what you want” has shown too many fatal mishaps, I’ll have to say to anyone to start on a 600, they’re plenty fast and good to be on. Getting the big bikes is like trying to skip college. Nice vid and nice bike but be very careful and at least wear some longer sleeves and high tops. Don’t be a squid

    • @The_Initiated
      @The_Initiated  6 лет назад

      thanks you are right about the skills, I rode a 600 and a 250 before and its alot more to it, when im on the R1 only thing i got to worry about is not giving to much throttle. Technology makes life easier and if i picked up a older R1 with not tech i would prob wreck lol. The tech is amazing though i have link braking so i only apply rear or front brake and they both work at the same time, also abs so it wont lock front wheel you can grab the break if you had to and it wont lock on you. But i dont plan on buying a older bike from this one my next bike will prob be a 2020 R1 with same tech or even better, i understand that i wont have the skills to ride some of the older beast out there but im ok with that, its like we all have iphone x or samsung s9 and someone says you wont have the skills to call someone if you used a older phone like the land line ones with no caller id or no memory to store contacts.

I’ve always wanted a Sports bike but always have been discouraged by my mates with 40 years of riding experience . The GS is surprisingly a great bike, it can do everything & really shines on a long trip ( Singapore to Thailand) but after my second tour , I’m itching for a Sports bike, always & still want one. The thing is get what you want & play it cool.

    You have the same story as me I always wanted a motorcycle kept fucking my money off on video games and this n that finna bought my car it’s trash idc as long as it has ac and get me from a to b with no problem idc what it looks like saved and worked my ass off and bought my 08 gsxr 600 for my birthday last year (starter bike) months later I got bored and I bought a 18 R1 wish I bought the R1 first well a 17 one I could’ve saved a lot of money but 🤷🏾‍♂️ aye no regrets I love both still breaking my bike in 😂 before I mod it

    Yeah you bought way more bike than you needed!!! You ride that thing like an old lady. Get your damn hand on the throttle like a normal person. If you hold your hand on the throttle like that because your front brake lever get adjustable levers. You got enough to buy a new bike but can't get proper upgrades to suit you? A 600 would be plenty of bike for you. Throw a +1 -2 sprocket set on it and you can power wheelie in first gear by accident. I started on a 883 sportster (still have it) have a 05 r6 now too. I dropped the r6 doing wheelies this summer. Talk about being bummed out! I put new fairings on it and good to go again. I'll totally admit the 2016 r1 is absofuckinglutly beautiful. But way more than you need for the way you were riding it.

    • @The_Initiated
      @The_Initiated  7 лет назад +5

      mark gilmour lol Mark I'm not sure what country you are from but I'm in America where we do what we want to do for the most part just cause. I wanted a r1 so I got one end of story. By your logic we should all drive those little electric cars cause we don't need supersports lol that's not how America works if you have the money for a Ferrari and you want one you get it correct? It don't matter how you use your toy it makes you happy. Same thing for bikes,boats, property's. It's not about what you need. It's about what you want. But your entitled to your own opinion on the matter i however am happy with my purchase

    • @monacoc3181
      @monacoc3181 7 лет назад +4

      R1 Alpha “in America we do want we want” “that’s not how America works” wtf does that even mean man😂😂😂😂 serious question. And if you got 3 inch chicken strips on that back tire then your ass shouldn’t even be on a supersport nevermind and litre bike.. that’s like buying a Ferrari and going 10 mph under everywhere same difference buddy. and I guarantee you got dem big ass strips on that back tire😂

    • @The_Initiated
      @The_Initiated  7 лет назад +2

      Your missing the point, he said that i dont need a R1 and i could ride a 600 for the way i was riding it, i simply pointed out that unlike other countries where they make u start on a 250 or restricted bike, America allows you to ride whatever you want whenever you want. So if i wanted to start off on a R1 or a 250 its my choice not the governments. You on the other hand seem a little upset for some reason. Do you want to talk about it? :P

    • @The_Initiated
      @The_Initiated  7 лет назад +1

      I ment consistently hitting redline i dont think that it is good for the engine not replacing a engine on a used bike lol rather i be the one who does the redlining but not excessively. i was clearly talkin about the fact that some people abuse their bikes its a known fact with sports bikes and i didnt want to get someone else's timebomb for a new engine or valves.

    • @thegatesofsleep
      @thegatesofsleep 6 лет назад

      Hayabusa is better for long distance racing in a straight line, but ZX10R or GSX1000 will probably beat it on a track or street.

    • @TheLondonCyclist
      @TheLondonCyclist 6 лет назад

      Nanderlizer Nanderlizer Seriously? I thought a busa had a higher top speed than a a Kawasaki ZX10 or gsx1000 etc, bit like a Bugatti on a straight.

    • @TheLondonCyclist
      @TheLondonCyclist 6 лет назад

      Nanderlizer Nanderlizer It was a figure of speech, like Bugatti is faster in a straight line, but would be outdone in acceleration and stuff.

    • @pingustrasse
      @pingustrasse 6 лет назад

      superbikes have more or equal top speed than hyperbikes, but hyperbikes have more acceleration from 0-100 km/h because they are longer.

    I did sort of what you did. I did have experience riding mini bikes, dirt bikes, four wheelers and mopeds. Not a extreme amount as I owned none of them. My first street bike ride was a 250 which I knew I could ride hard. But my first bike of my own was a 2009 R1. Also first time I rode anything above 250. So yes it's all mind over matter. It was 10 years plus since I rode anything with two wheels plus a motor so getting use to the clutch was scary plus the clutch was on its last leg. But it is all about your mind. If u honestly can measure your maturity and ability then you will be fine on any bike as long as you take your time and continue to take courses. You don't need to start on anything but what u want, can afford and can pick up. That's only things I say, if u cant pick it up then u don't need it

    • @The_Initiated

  • @Robbieifyoucan

    Watching you ride is painful, why buy an R1 to put around suburbia? People like you confuse me, spend all that money to be in an uncomfortable position just so you can look cool? That's not what riding is about, thats called posing/flexing. Typical 1000cc Supersport owner...

    • @The_Initiated
      @The_Initiated  7 лет назад +11

      Robert I ride it hard when I want to. But by your logic we should all drive hybrid cars right? I mostly record around town atm because at highway speeds my mic acts up. I actually made a video explaining that. But it's whatever man just cause your bike or car can go super fast doesn't mean you have to do it 24/7. I brought this bike because I love the sound the speed and the look of the bike.

    • @zerugar
      @zerugar 6 лет назад +4

      to his defence, there is a span between a hybrid car and a equivalent to 800hp race car

    • @jancegamodia4067
      @jancegamodia4067 6 лет назад +1

      I think if you start on a small engine and get use to it and buy bigger engine (600cc) and then get use to it and then buy another bike with 1000cc engine....it think thats the waste of money....i think he start on R1 not because he wanted to look cool but also he wouldn't eant to spend much money to go buy and buy again...

      i had just brought the bike then,i am comfortable i just dont want to drop my bike XD, riding around through town in a 25mph zone on a R1 XD its alot easyier when i open her up on the free way. as for putting in in netural i dont see the point unless i am sitting for a long period of time i rather just hold my clutch its the same as netural for redlights that last maybe 20-30 seconds. thanks for the concern though :)
