I think it's to illustrate John's willpower and what made him the "Baba Yaga", not to be fantastical or to pay no heed to suspension of disbelief. Though, to be fair, I always felt there was something supernatural about John since the first film. The way the Russians talk about him like he's a ghost, something elemental out in the world. A story told to children like Dracula, or the Baba Yaga, actually.
It works because John gets hurt. He suffers every step of the way. Film realism isn't about "reality", unless the story you're telling is a documentary. It's about thinking through the consequences of actions taken. Probably the strongest theme in all of the Wick movies is that of consequence. Everything everyone does incurs a consequence for them or for someone else. That's why it works. John Wick is overpowered, sure, but he and his friends still face terrible consequences for the things they do. It's the same reason Superman works despite being in-universe OP. It's not about how strong he is, it's about the people behind him that he protects. High stakes for Superman isn't "you'll die", it's "everyone behind you will die". Same idea for Wick. It's not about how good he is at being an assassin, it's about Winston and Caine and everyone else he takes with him. It's about what happens to them.
@@masterdynamo6457 "It works because John gets hurt. He suffers every step of the way." So I think you even addressed the flaw in itself. He doesn't REALLY actually get hurt. The Bowery King and Winston were in the boat when Wick said "Loving Husband" So the statement could have been directed to both? Or he already had planned with Caine the entire duel (at the church), knowing that he would die and Winston would live
@@KetraarNah the first John Wick wasn't nearly as ridiculous. Example, John gets stabbed with a broken glass bottle and falls from a 2 story club balcony, then needs stitches and rest in order to recuperate. In 4 he gets hit by multiple cars driving at full speed, falls from a 10 story window and 100 flight of steps just to ultimately shrug it off like it was nothing 🤷♂️. Sure you also had to suspend your disbelief a little in the first as well, but this one requires you to shut your brain off completely in order to even get into it.
My only nitpick is the bullets that somehow only go about two feet and then just vanish. Here’s a thing: count how many collateral deaths there would be of the bullets kept going.
(9:14) "Look, as a person with significant hearing loss who speaks none of these foreign languages in this movie..." Wait, really? I never knew that. Huh... today I learned.

Front desk is supposed to wish you a good stay and hand you the card and little envelope with room written on it It's a breach in SOP if they do, because it creates a risk to the guest. If anyone is listening and they hear your room number or worse both your name and room number they can use it to charge things to your room or find you FYI @cinemasins
So, fun fact, car generally don’t stop bullets. The engine block, axles, and maybe the support pillars where the car door hinges to the car are the only safeish spots. Car doors? Not even remotely bulletproof, they’re just going to deform the bullet and make them leave a nastier hole in you. And, yes, I am a gun nerd and an actual firearm instructor, and have tested this many times. 😊
One thing that bothered me with this movie (among many, I mean surely a kevlar 'bulletproof' suit wouldn't reduce the kinetic force of a bullet or 50 hitting you) was how the bounty on John Wick was at $18 million and all the assassins don't bother with him but then put it up a few million and suddenly everyone in the city is after him. $18 mil not enough but put it up slightly and everyone's game even though they must be aware that all previous people who went after him were dispatched easily.
4:22 It’s not about how the friendship is formed, it’s about when the friendship is put to the test. Your work friend killed someone who he said “deserved it”; you going to help him bury the body?
I'm with him on the fact that this movie was wayyyy too long, although I still enjoyed it. That shootout scene on the big ass outdoor staircase had me rolling my eyes after watching him get kicked back to the bottom not once, but twice. This movie should have had a 2 hour runtime.
Surprised you didn't Sin the fact that Hiroyuki Sanada is playing another character that uses a samurai sword.(47 Ronin, The Last Samurai, Endgame, The Wolverine, Bullet Train) The list goes on.
The two sin removals were the ones that were mandatory. I appreciate your compliance. Also I just knew there was going to be a sin about the stairs, I would've been mighty pissed if there wasn't as that was right there. You should've given a sin for each flight of stairs rather than the times he got knocked down. Ah well.
A bit of a reach, but it can be seen as an allegory of how John is in hell, and trying to reach 'heaven'- each attempt to finally make it to the church being thwarted by god's 'bouncers' ...
Yeah, it always puzzled me that, with all the various mutilations, that the Table's main ways to motivate or forgive their assassins were methods that made them less capable at the jobs they wanted them to do. Also, the greatest crime in this movie is what they did to that gorgeous, black '71 Cuda.
This was likely intentional. If you think about it, if you just had an assassin that killed a member of the high table, for instance, you'd want them to be less capable so they'd be easier to kill/stop in the future if needed.
5:47 That spin she does on the floor was me back when I was learning Aikido and someone tried to pin me, and ended-up with me spinning OUT of their wrist-grab.

He suffers every step of the way."
So I think you even addressed the flaw in itself. He doesn't REALLY actually get hurt. Yes he gets shot and stabbed at times we know that, but come on man falling off the roof of buildings multiple times in this franchise and not breaking his body to the point of being paralyzed is a bit ridiculous. Cool but also ridiculous.
The rest of your point I get but that's not where my focus is on.
@@OrionInSpace This right here.
I fell out of a tree only 10ft, was out of commission for just a lil' over two weeks with a bruised spinal column. When I was able to walk around it was still about another week before I got back to normal. Not a damn thing is realistic about the damage John takes xD
Which is fine, I don't watch these movies for that. I just wanna see some cool shit.
@@tonysmith9905 same here but at the same time I wish some people would levy that for other movies. Instead of being overly critical for the sake of it just enjoy what's there.
16:24 that was funny as hell bro! Great video man
11:35 the way they sped up Winston walking looks like the old fashion metal coin banks is hilarious
I keep telling my friends that John Wick 4 better be the last in the series, because "the 4th one ends so perfect that if they made a 5th I can't see how it can get better" .... without telling them why... I don't want a zombie wick
I think there will be a prequel about young Wick and how he slipped into that assassin life.
15:28 should have taken a sin off for every 'dragons breath'
This movie was so incredible, the moments the credits roll you just want to start it over and watch again.
Lmao speak for yourself. Personally, I couldn't wait for it to end. This series has gotten waaaaay too repetitive and overly ridiculous at this point imho. Loved the first 2 though.
@@jimmyj5703seriously. I’m an hour into this movie and I’ve fallen asleep three times and here i am watching cinema sins with wick 4 paused.. 🙄
11:38 missed opportunity to say “most confusing game of yugio I’ve ever seen” instead of “dominoes”
Donnie Yen was excellent in this movie. I love his presence in Hollywood movies
The Bowery King and Winston were in the boat when Wick said "Loving Husband" So the statement could have been directed to both? Or he already had planned with Caine the entire duel (at the church), knowing that he would die and Winston would live
The last 1/3 of this movie is the greatest action movie ever made. That Hotline Miami scene will live with me forever
1:24 haha. Cinema Sins sinned! That's a pentagon 😂😂😂 *DING*
John Wick has entered into the Fast & Furious zone, in which the viewer requires the willful suspension of disbelief to watch it.
Pretty sure that's true for all fiction, which movies are, in case you missed it.
And it's stale.
@@jimmyj5703 Obviously it gets more and more riduclous, they are sequels, duh!
@@Ketraar The point I'm making here is, sequels aren't always a good thing, duh!
1:30 sin against @cinemasins that's a pentagon not a hexagon
My only nitpick is the bullets that somehow only go about two feet and then just vanish.
Here’s a thing: count how many collateral deaths there would be of the bullets kept going.
Sin 75: Film Theory explains this. Not enough force to break his back, but it’ll still hurt like a bitch
(9:14) "Look, as a person with significant hearing loss who speaks none of these foreign languages in this movie..."
Wait, really? I never knew that. Huh... today I learned.
I feel like the wick franchise has never needed anything more than a generic revenge plot.
The magic is in the acting, keanu smashed it! Along with all the performers that made it happen.
How did you not have big rant about how a blind guys wouldn't stand a chance in the assassin world? Anyone could've just shot Caine in the face from 10 m and he'd never > see < it coming. His ability to "sense" people in this movie is ridiculous.
Everything in this movie is ridiculous. It wants you to "turn off your brain" to enjoy it, but for real.
Like you're not even supposed to bring logic anywhere in it
@@JThePervertedSummoner Yeah I know but even in the world they've built it's crazy to think that Caine would stand any chance at all. It's just to much. Everyone has guns and yet they make him out be this super assassin against people with eye sight.
3:57 - so this is actually accurate. It's SOP in hospitality to not say your room number out loud. Front desk is supposed to wish you a good stay and hand you the card and little envelope with room written on it
It's a breach in SOP if they do, because it creates a risk to the guest. If anyone is listening and they hear your room number or worse both your name and room number they can use it to charge things to your room or find you
FYI @cinemasins
I think we can all agree the dumbest scene in this movie was John falling down the stairs for what felt like 20 minutes
Dumbest but also fucking hysterical
The first John Wick is still the best out of all of them and Caine telling the Marquis to f*ck off had me laughing.
I know that overhead scene is getting sins off.
nice
I summarised this franchise to my brother like this:
"John Wick is a fantasy series where the wizards are assassins and the bullets are spells"
I was shocked by this movie. I couldn't stop making fun of it long enough to enjoy the action. Donnie Yen was awesome at least.
Honestly a sin could have been where markeef just stares at John and waits to get shot after Winston said he didn’t shoot
4:22 It’s not about how the friendship is formed, it’s about when the friendship is put to the test. Your work friend killed someone who he said “deserved it”; you going to help him bury the body?
1:25 Jeremy, that’s a pentagon, not a hexagon.
*ding!*
I'm with him on the fact that this movie was wayyyy too long, although I still enjoyed it. That shootout scene on the big ass outdoor staircase had me rolling my eyes after watching him get kicked back to the bottom not once, but twice. This movie should have had a 2 hour runtime.
him landing on the van and falling down the stairs deserve 10 sins each
Him doing that overhead sequence, club sequence and pretty much every action scene should have 10 sins off.
You had these sins spot on including admiration of the overhead segment. That was worth slogging through all the rest.
Surprised you didn't Sin the fact that Hiroyuki Sanada is playing another character that uses a samurai sword.(47 Ronin, The Last Samurai, Endgame, The Wolverine, Bullet Train) The list goes on.
Anyone would think he is Japanese.
Did you complain every time Clint shot a 6 shooter revolver?
17:12 i did not expect to hear Markiplier in this video
You missed the call back to The Warriors movie with the radio reporting
The two sin removals were the ones that were mandatory. I appreciate your compliance. Also I just knew there was going to be a sin about the stairs, I would've been mighty pissed if there wasn't as that was right there. You should've given a sin for each flight of stairs rather than the times he got knocked down. Ah well.
A bit of a reach, but it can be seen as an allegory of how John is in hell, and trying to reach 'heaven'- each attempt to finally make it to the church being thwarted by god's 'bouncers' ...
Decent movie. Not the best in the franchise, but it's tough to keep the magic alive in a 4th installment. Good for what it is
Okay, claus being called "budget groot" is funny.
They're definitely should have been sick for when the dog gets hit by a car but doesn't die
Allow me to add a sin. The writers of this movie HAD to have said, "ya know how everyone liked Halle Berry's character with the dogs in the last movie? Well, let's have her be in this one too!! She's not available you say? Well, just get another black actor and give them basically the same memorable character trait as Halle Berry's from the last movie...the dogs. Because really, that's what people liked anyway. You say we should make it a bit different? Got it!! Make it a guy, make him a "tracker", give him a backpack and a shotgun, and...are you sitting down for this one...only give him 1 dog. BRILLIANT!!!"
John Wick didn't die from his wounds. He died of old age. That is how tired he and this movie was.
im suprised you didnt give sins for john wick getting hit by like 5 cars and taking 0 damage lol
4 hours wouldn't be enough for all the sins...
Cinemasins: Imagine having your nuts gnawed on right before you got shot in the head.
My immediate thoughts: Sweet relief.
Kudos to this film for giving us this huge shout-out to the cult classic The Warriors and the legendary Ms. Thigpen 🥰🥰
Pentagon. Pentagon of fire. Totally different thing.
I love the John Wick films, but i love this video too! Thank you!! 😁💙
you can have both!😄
CinemaSins never passed first grade and can't tell the difference between a hexagon and a pentagon! +1 Ding
15:59 this couldn’t have been what they wanted a crowd to react to like he is dead in our world right here😂
Minus 10000 sins
Giving 5 million sins to cinemasins for daring to sin this movie
My girlfriend and I quote John Wick all the time. Mostly by growling “yeah” or “consequences”
You should add 100 sins for a BLIND fighting and not getting dead
We should add 300 for ur grammar
