100%. There are any number of directors who you can absolutely see putting a stop to anything outside their own vision. It's not necessarily a bad thing - a single cohesive style throughout certainly has its benefits. But in this case it was a gift to viewers.

Something I realized about the Wick movies that people don't seem to talk about is that the central theme of them is about systems versus human relationships. Almost every consequential plot point boils down to someone choosing between their loyalty to the system or their human connection to someone else.

Fun fact, if the Marquis had shot John before he fired his 3rd shot, he would have been in violation of the rules, and he himself would have had to suffer the consequences at the hands of the Harbinger. Once the Marquis took the weapon for the final shot, he thought that John had fired, you can even see that the muzzle of John’s pistol doesn’t flash. Which is another great note for the characterization of the Marquis, he is so tunnel-vision focused on killing John Wick that he doesn’t care to pay enough attention to all the details and leaves himself completely open for the kill shot. Allowing his interests to outweigh his worth, the very thing the Harbinger warned him of.

The detail of stabbing him through his dominant hand is something I didn’t pick up on but it’s such a great one. He doesn’t want to duel John but knows he has to do it gives him a better chance while still keeping it fair. He could’ve cut the hand off if he wanted to but is too honourable to do that kind of thing. Such a small thing that says a lot about yen’s character.

A part I really loved and was surprised more attention wasn't drawn to it, was in the kitchen scene at Okinawa where Caine places the first motion sensor on the corner. You'll notice that at the beginning he does it at about head height then he takes a pause and places it lower, at about waist height. At the start I didn't realize the significance, maybe he just misplaced the sensor, but then it dawned on me that it was a lot cleverer than that. Caine was clearly tired after the first fight, and when he's behind that corner, he wants to take a moment to catch his breath, so he places the motion sensor right by his ear, so it would give him some advance notice if somebody was sneaking up on him while he was recovering, and later he places the sensor further down, reducing the chances of it being spotted while he's aiming. The attention to detail in this movie astonishes me.

I think the Marquis is a perfect "hateable" villain. What I mean is that, from the moment he pops up, you hate him, you want him to fail and to die; and when he eventually does, you're happy. Not only did he murder a fan favorite who was unarmed, he also treats everyone else like trash (threatens Caine's daughter, puts a knife in Nobody's hand...) and he is very powerful in a way that feels unearned. He has no charisma, he doesn't seem to know how to fight; in short, he has no redeemable qualities.

I know they're not easy to write but I sincerely hope they make a ton more of them I mean really they're just so good. Keanu taking down people for long takes of action yes please. I wish the man was younger but I hope we can get the love and care he pours into every thing he does.

One of my favorite moments in the club scene was when Killa gets up and faces john after being knocked unconscious. They meet eyes, and Killa scrambles away in fear. Only for a split second, John Wick smiles and laughs. It's so subtle that I missed it on the first watch, but it was one of my favorite character moments from him. John enjoys what he's doing. He's enjoying the hunt, the fear he instills in his prey. That's one of the only moments in the franchise where he knows how legendary he is and it's so great to watch.

14:52 the artwork in the louvre is symbolic of the marquis and john wick. the painting behind the marquis is that of King Sardanapalus who is seen sitting in white surrounded by chaos as he was known to execute prisoners. the marquis is also sitting in white, oblivious to his own version of chaos, and executed charon earlier in the film. eerily enough, they both have a golden trinket (coffee machine in the marquis' case) to their left in the shot where it is exposed. on the opposite side of the hall, the side the marquis faces, we see "liberty leading the people", obviously symbolizing john wick's journey to become a free man from the oppression of the high table, all while leading the tracker, winston, and caine to their own freedom.

I like how the writers left a small gap for John to be alive. The line during the grave scene "do you think he's in heaven or hell?" could also refer to how John is feeling now that he's "out". He could be in 'heaven' and enjoying his freedom, or he could be in 'hell' and hating that The High Table is still intact after what it did to him and his friends. Sure the Marquis is dead, but The Table appointed him. My guess for a 5th movie's story is as good as anyone's. My best guess is that the out of touch High Table gets paranoid about John or angry that they lost to him and either changes the rules to get to John, or they force someone John owes a debt to (or someone willing to break the rules) to force John back in. Maybe The High Table offers to honor the bounty on John's head. In the 2nd movie, the manager of the Rome Continental asks if John is after the Pope, so targets for assassination don't have to be in the game (or the Pope is a badass assassin).

It's "The Death of Sardanapalus" and depicts the massacre and destruction of all his worldly possessions as his own death approached. Except, whereas one might expect Sardanapalus to be perhaps a bit more emotional about his death, he seemingly doesn't really care about his death as much as he cares about making sure his vast wealth and fortune would be his alone and he doesn't care about the pain and suffering he is causing to others. @@MB1999uk I could see that, but was talking about the character of john wick coming back. I liked his death in this, it was good, it felt earned and i'm usually not a fan of killing off characters, but this felt like a good death.
I mean I could think of a thousand ways for them to do a sequel without wick, but if they had to bring back john, a death fake out is the only way I could see them realistically doing it. Something where his friends think he died, but he didn't or the death in 4 is a fake out just for the audience ( which kinda feel ret-con-y in a bad way.) I mean I wouldn't want to add any science fiction elements or mystical elements this late in the game for the franchise cause it seems very realistic and I feel like that would ruin the world they set up a little bit. like I wouldn't want someone chanting over him and then him waking up, or him waking up from a lab/ doctors office that cured his death somehow ( surgery, cloning, magic pill, take your pick)
I mean a spin off would be the way to go, same world, different characters and I could see that take different forms like povs from an assassin or the hotel people or someone from the high table or just a similar assassin to john. legendary, but out of the game for reasons only to get pulled back in.
the only other way I could see it is as a pequel about him getting out of the assassin game. like that's really the only other way I see Keanu back for a sequel either fake his death or do a prequel, but I don't think you could do like his early career unless you did another actor.
like the basic version of the death fake out plot would be he wasn't dead and he faked it on his way back to the states, and then he's found out, the famous john wick isn't dead and you get a lot of " I thought you died john" banter as people come for him.
as for the prequel route, you would get the same people back from the first one, and then have john meet his wife, ask to get out of the game, have his wife be terminal and then the movie basically ends where the first john wick begins.
like those are the only two ways I see them writing around johns death in the 4th.
I'm with you, i'd rather have some sort of spin off then john wick come back, but if he has to come back. those are the only good ways I see them doing it.
I only see john was only kinda dead and got better or we get some backstory. That's the only way i see the movies moving forward if keanu is a character in them.

I would just like to say, I look forward to your new stuff. You are the reason that I’ve watched some movies that I wouldn’t have watched otherwise (Detective Pikachu being among them). I would just like to encourage you to keep going and I’ll follow along. Thanks for being a ray of sunshine and positivity on a platform that can often be very negative. ❤

I remember watching this along side some mid 40's guy next to me and seeing him being really excited with that movie cheered me on. The audience was having a great time and when that Hotline Miami long take came up, I said out loud " yo this is like Hotline Miami" and he was interested to hear me out about what that was after the film.
This is the first time I've went to the cinema and have strangers discuss what we saw together for a minute. I love what great films can do for us.
Also, even if unintentional or because video games take inspiration from films too...the video game-esque experience of the films is just so much fun. Whatever they do with the spin-offs , I just hope they take that craziness that games can have and put them in those films.

Seeing this movie in IMAX was worth it.
This movie has so many good fights that it's hard to pick one.

The cinema wins videos are so well done im convinced you could do commentary like TurkeyTom and JAubrey and kill it!

At the end of series like this you should make a series playlist, with an additional closing vid for that playlist where you total up the numbers, point out your personal highlights, things you missed, or things that are better with future franchises knowledge. Just an idea.
