Lord Tarly's was actually one of the best. He spoke with the most powerful conviction and told the backstory of Sam's house, which also shed light on Sam's rise to greatness.

House Clegane has a very interesting, tragic, and inspiring story. Gregor was a monster though.

My favorite characters in the entire lore and story. Is Ser Arthur Dayne. And Ser Duncan the Tall. With the Blackfish and Tywin as others i like a lot as well.
Savage Tilley I go classic, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Bronn, Arya Stark and of course, The Hound!
I love Arthur Dayne and the Blackfish too! They aren’t power hungry or schemers. Although I also love Tyrion, Varys, and a select few Tyrells (I think you can guess who). Oh, and the badass battle powerhouses Oberyn, Arya, and the Hound.

You know what I noticed? Not ONCE in the entire series of History and Lore do we ever get to hear Ned Stark speak (not including the history of House Dayne).
If I could be a member of any house it would be house Dayne of starfall, it’s just amazing and so aloof
the Daynes do have a long written history with many events given in their point of view. But, during those events many of the minor houses were also present, and Grrm left them out purposely as history do not record the achievements of lesser men and houses. An example would be the Lannisters conquest of the Westerlands. During those conquest houses such as Farmen provided men for the Lannister Army. It isn’t stated in the books, but we know that they were the first loyal bannermen after the Lannisters conquered Fair isle. So we can imply their contribution to history. Houses Yronwood and Wyl were vital to stop Aegon Targaryens invasion of Dorne. The locations of battle, role was in gathering levies for the Martells in the regions they controlled, how their knowledge of the dessert made it possible to flank the Targaryens. Again none of this was from the texts of Grrm, I came up with it by implying their strength by their location. Again I know it is just all implications, but logically we can make such arguments because that is what historians do :)
These stories are better than the show now.
Whenever I watch the Blu-rays, I give up fairly early just as soon as I get a glimpse of the ending coming over the horizon

The answer to this is complicated and basically amounts to yes, no, and sort of. I recommend reading the accompaniment book A World of Ice and Fire which is a pretty thorough history of the universe. Interesting as hell, though you do kind of have to read between the lines a bit because it's written from the perspective of a maester and those dudes aren't great with details.

@@annajane8890 the incest wasn't just a Targaryen thing, it's a Valyrian thing. So the Targs would have practiced incest since before the Doom of Valyria which I believe was over a century before Aegon the Dragon's birth, and for centuries before that, during the prime of the Valyrian Freehold.
Also, have you seen images of the Habsburgs?
Targaryens, and Valyrians in general before them, are described to be beautiful, implicitly inhumanly beautiful.

There was no King's Landing before Aegon's conquest. Aegon built it and so named it as a tribute to the first place he set foot on in mainland Westeros. It was disputed by 3 kings and so in essence, it was essentially no man's land at the time Aegon landed.

The Boltons are no different from the history than in the Game of Thrones series. They are the same. I always hated them and glad they're dead now. At the Battle of the Bastards winter had came for the last Bolton Lord at Winterfell! And the Starks are restored.

DUDE!! THEY HAVE TO HAVE A SPIN OFF OF BRAN STARK HAVING ALL THESE VISIONS. Just him having those flashbacks and possibly interacting with the past. That would be an awesome character return scenes or characters a lot of people would love to see. Like the smiling knight or the heros of "The Dance of the Dragons" era.
the GOT show that HBO just paid for a pilot of, is about 'the long night' and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they used the pre-text of bran having visions and/or being narrator for it. When he was asked if he would be in the spin offs, he grinned and said 'i dunno' so, it's defo a possibility I think. Probably why they didn't do any of it this season. it would have revealed all the stuff they wanna reveal in the spin-off
