    A lot of these sketches were actually written by Ronnie Barker. People used to say that Ronnie Barker was the funniest of the two but Ronnie Corbett's timing was perfection.

      it comes from little Ronnie being a professionally trained stage actor, he spent years treading the boards honing the skills and discipline of live performance before making the transition to sketch comedy on TV.

      If you look at Ronnie Corbetts performance in the Two Candles Sketch, it is just perfection, amongst others of course, but it's a good sketch to showcase such genius of corbetts

    • @loafersheffield
      @loafersheffield 3 года назад +6

      Barker used to submit his sketches under a pseudonym. Gerard Wiley... I recollect. This was done intentionally. No-one actually knew that it was Barker who was writing them.. Not sure why. Perhaps it was because he wanted to gauge the opinions and reactions of the producers with regards to the merits of the material that he anonymously submitted. I often feel that the joke writers skills are overlooked and that the performers get all of the credit. Galton and Simpson for Tony Hancock and Steptoe and Son. John Sullivan for "Only Fools and Horses." Even Eric Sykes helped to pen many of Spike Milligans's Goons Show scripts when Spike was.... er,,, "AWOL".

      That's part of the reason I like the Two Ronnies slightly more than Morecambe and Wise. Whereas with M&W you had a great comedian and a great straight man, with the TR's either one could be the comic or the straight guy. Absolute Geniuses!
      😊😊😚

    I don't recall them ever doing a foreign character and ever treating them like a buffoon. I think that plays a big part in it. The joke is in the miscommunication not in the characters race.

    My parents ran a deli in Australia just after the war, when thousands of displaced people came here as refugees.
    They found English hard and mum would try to help with pronunciation of various foods.
    One word they nearly all had a problem with was biscuits.
    They would say biscavits or biscabits but just saying biscuits defeated them even with my mother making it as short as possible. e.g. bis kits.
