I just dyed my hair purple using Splat! A lot of it is rinsing out already. Happy to have come across your video while I was researching Arctic Fox! You give a lot of helpful tips and products so thank you so much!
I used Splat the first time I ever colored my hair and I had serious issues with it. it washed out patchy and ugly after the first wash. I would never recommend it to anyone. Arctic Fox has never let me down however and I would recommend!!
@Elizabeth Houser oh a year after dying my hair with different purples (over my dark hair) I ended up bleaching my hair so I could dye it pink! And needless to say there were splotches of purple that DID NOT come out (from the splat)! XD luckily I was dying over it anyways! But yeah I will never use splat again! There are far too many good products to go back there! Lol
you literally have answered all my questions in one video. I tried coloring my hair with the overtone and just felt i wasn't getting the color i wanted. i ordered the arctic fox and am excited to see the results from using both products!
you/re the second person to tell me they use arctic fox and overtone together like that to maintain a purple! I think I will have to seriously look into it!
Caitlin Jordan I think it’s the perfect combo. I tried just using overtone but it wasn’t strong enough for the initial color to all be even and pigmented (I have a video on that as well) but this is the perfect mix to get rich color and keep it vibrant! Thanks so much for watching!
Wow! I’ve watched so many videos today trying to obtain this gorgeous color and yours takes the cake. THANK YOU for making such an informative and educational video. You answered all of my questions & recommended great products. This color looks great on you!💜
Thank you for such a thorough breakdown of your routine. I've never dyed my hair before and I'm going from naturally dark brown to purple, and definitely needed tips on care. One of my problems is that I'm sensitive to scented products and so many products are heavily scented. Dove makes an unscented dry shampoo so maybe I'll give that a try.
I love how vibrant the Arctic Fox is on the brunette part of your hair. I would probably check out the colors and pick some up for myself if I wasn't in school and trying to get a job in the computer field. I'll keep it in mind for the future though!

I have beautiful dark purple hair. My downfall was taking a hot shower and some of the color was washing out 😔 good to know. Thank you for the tips! Much appreciated 🙏
Yes excellent point! I mentioned in another recent video I have a setting spray with spf 50 that I also layer and use to touch up, plus foundation with SPF. I believe it’s 1/2 tsp sunscreen to be effective so that’s what I go for with the moisturizer at least!
I also have purple hair and am currently using the overtone extreme purple products. To get my color I did have it bleached 3 times and it is extremely dry, so I am excited to try the ogx cream and hask leave in spray!
This video is a godsend for me. I lightened my hair back in October and hated what it looked like so I bought Overtone in Extreme Purple and ended up loving it. Last month, I came across your video where you dyed your hair with Arctic Fox and immediately ordered a bottle. I'm so excited to use it, but I feel like my color fades out quick cause my scalp is so oily and I have to wash it every other day 😭 I use scalp treatments but my hair is still oily. Your suggestion of the ACV hair rinse is PERFECT!!! I'm going to get myself a bottle. 💜
Yay!! So glad I could help. Also using the overtone conditioner if you're washing daily will help prevent it from fading, and make sure you're using a suflate free shampoo!
You are so pretty!!! This color looks amazing on you I’m gunna see if Sally’s carries these products it looks so beautiful 😍😍 and purple is my faaavorite color hehehe thank you for sharing all your knowledge!
Brittyy thank you for letting me know!! Do you know if they carry overtone as well?! I could easily call and ask them but I get anxiety over the phone lol
People need to stop giving a bad rap about brassy tones. because I think dark orange/ brass can look absolutely stunning on some people.Everyone says that I look the best with brass color, blonde can sometimes wash out skin tone depending. I follow my own trend. Period. 🧡
ENTRY : I actually love the splat, and it works great and lasts long for me, but my daughter has the same issues as you did with her hair. Both sad and expensive!
Do you have to take cold showers with this color, or is warm water alright? I’ve recently been looking into dyeing my hair with the purple rain but cold showers don’t sound too appealing😬
This is so helpful!!! I'm about to bleach my hair and then dye it with arctic fox purple rain. Trying to save money with maintenance products... which would be the ones you recommend most if I had to pick 1 or 2?
2 questions. How do you apply your dry shampoo, with a brush or rub it in? And do you apply the ACV rinse to dry or wet hair? I just did the Purple Rain by Artic Fox and looking to maintain it like you do.
Usually I apply the dry shampoo and then just use my fingers to "jusgh" my hair--helps add some lift and volume! The ACV rinse goes on wet hair, in the shower in place of shampoo and conditioner 😄
Thank you so much. Before the purple I would wash my hair every other day. Just because it would tend to get oily by the 2nd day. So it will be a challenged to space it out Trying everything now.
RIGHT after coloring, avoid white while your hair is still wet, but other than that if it's dry, I never experience any bleeding. Also if you swim in the pool, it will start to bleed because chlorine strips color!
If your virgin hair is at least light brown you will see results but if you want it vibrant, lightening will help a lot. If you put it over DARK brown hair you’ll only get a tint
I have purple strands that were bleached that are starting to fade. I'm looking for something to put over my whole head that will slightly tint my brown hair and make the bleached strands really vibrant again. Will either arctic fox or overtone work for this?
Both would work! This will probably come out a bit more vibrant. The Overtone Purple for Brown Hair would work but it'll have more of a dark appearance-- you can see me do exactly what you're describing in my latest review of the new Overtone!
Using the overtone, how often do you touch up/dye your hair with the Arctic fox. (Washing your hair every 6days) like you mentioned. I also have dark brown hair
Does this hair dye give the results you have even if your hair is basically black/dark dark brown? Or do you have to lighten the hair before applying for those results?
How long does the dye last purple and do you have to use color safe conditioner every time to you shower? And can you use any color safe shampoo?Everytime you shower does the color bleed ?
Yes, I always redye with Arctic Fox-- I wash with overtone so it doesn't fade as much over time. Longer time between re-dyes. Yes, using color safe conditioner will help your color last longer, otherwise it can rinse out. Everytime I shower I need to bleach the bottom of the tub.
How long is “a while” regarding the vinegar rinse? I recently bought the Purple Rain but haven’t tried it yet. I love the idea of a scalp cleanser, but $35 is high. I guess I want to know how many uses you get from a bottle. Dry shampoo really builds up on me. Thanks!
I'm so sorry the delay of response to this! My bottle usually lasts me anywhere between 3-4 months because it's not an every week thing, only if I really need it between washes. :)
There's really not going to be a way to protect it if you're using the harsh shampoo regularly. The best thing you can do is really try to concentrate your shampoo on your roots/scalp versus the rest of your hair, and rinse in cold water. Also using the overtone daily conditioner after your shampoo will refresh the color every time you wash.
Does the purple color stain white/light colored clothes? Also does the purple rain defaults to fade to magenta or it depends on the color you have underneath Thanks! :)
I never had that issue, I just made sure to rinse and dry my hair thoroughly. And yes purple rain always faded to magenta on me, I had lightened hair underneath.
I talk about the shampoo in this video if you just watch the whole thing! :) Anything super gentle, non stripping. No sulfates! The Devacurl one works well for me. OGX is another great brand from the drugstore that makes sulfate free shampoos and conditioners.
Costco sells a huge bottle of their Kirkland sulfate-free shampoo for about $8.00. Can you review it sometime? It actually lathers and I really like that. Guess it’s what I’m used to. 😝
Slashed Beauty ohhh okay got it. I usually use box dye to lighten my roots a tiny bit then color it again but the fact that I had to color it every time it was just too costly and weighing on my hair but now that I know how to keep the color with other products without having to actual re-color it I think it will be better this time around thanks go your video and reply!!💜
I just used Arctic Fox and I LOVE the color. I'll have to look into some sort of purple conditioner to try to get it to keep. But, when I wash my hair or when I sweat, my neck turns pinkish-purple from the color running. You mentioned working out....how do you get it not to do that?!
Overtone is perfect for keeping it vibrant! Especially if you’re saturating the hair and putting a lot of product in, it’s inevitable to have semi permanent hair color come off. I always just used a loofa and body wash to get it off my hands or body when washing my hair. It never ran with sweat though, after my first or second wash.
It's still coming off on my neck and clothes a week later even with dry hair and no sweat. :( I want to keep this up but I need to figure out how to stop the bleed! Lol
For the first time it was actually over faded rose gold so sort of a medium orangy pink that had been bleached and colored. Then I continued to touch up the purple over faded magenta that it turns into over time.
What about the roots growing out natural? Do you bleach those as they come out, or just put the purple on top? I just salon dyed mine bright purple, but I'm looking at DIY maintenance
Anne McBride I’d put purple over it until the lightened part was SUPER grown out. Then I went to the salon just to get the roots dyed, and went home and did purple myself
I recently had my hair lightened in a bayalage and purple put in but it’s already fading in some areas. If I had to choose one would you recommend this over overtone? Mine has a mix of light and dark purple.
It depends on how you're using it. I would use overtone to "freshen up" color while washing, but Arctic Fox if I'm wanting the color strong as like an actual color job.
Hiya, I want to dye my hair purple soon and I'm still in need of some answers to maintain my hair color. So I was wondering, Is it okay to mix it with a conditioner and use that daily without the need to retouch or redye? Or is it a must that you dry your hair after you shampoo then add the arctic fox dye? ;')) Sorry for the bundle of questions and Thank you very much for the informative video!
Hmm not quite sure I understand the question because it seems like you’re asking about two different things- 1) you’re not supposed to mix arctic fox with conditioner because it’s already mixed with a conditioning formula. 2) using overtone daily conditioner IS also a conditioner with color in it so that you don’t have to retouch as often. 3) for the first application, you should shampoo, dry, then apply the semipermanent hair color.
My hair is dark level 3, without bleaching, do you think if I use light purple I can get dark purple eventually which is the color I want to get ? Or shouldnt I bother?
NAJWA AZRAQ no, with hair as dark as yours you will need to lighten for any color to show. The most you may get with Arctic Fox Purple Rain is a deep tint that shows in the sun/overall darker appearance but it will not look like mine in the video
NAJWA AZRAQ I don’t blame you, it’s easy to damage the hair by bleaching. If you go to a hairstylist they can do it for you with the right products to avoid as much damage as possible!
How badly does Arctic Fox stain fingers as you wear it (not during the application)? I'm four weeks into a salon purple dye job and my fingernails are STILL constantly purple any time I itch my head :(
@@morgangonzales9871 Sure! I started using overtone over salon-dyed rose gold hair and it was fine. I would let your purple fade a bit before using it though!
Also depending on what color you want, the best purple color i have found that sticks to my hair is joico in amethyst purple! They have a huge selection of colors and I recommend them 100% anybody seeing this comment, thank me later lol
TheFrawlina Honestly I don’t think it would give it a vivid bright color or anything but depending if your hair is dark brown even black it may show like a hue of purple very subtle when hitting the sunlight but I didn’t necessarily use bleach on my hair. I used L’Oréal hicolor in magenta and when it faded I put that purple right on there and it was beautiful! It wasn’t too bright which I loved but noticeable. Ik coloring your hair is not that good for it but if you want to lighten it a little bit just use box dye from the store that’s a light honey color and it’ll lift it slightly which I find better on my hair than actual bleach. If you don’t want to lighten your hair at all, I would say just go for it and get the shade you want, no harm in doing so.
I have SUPER oily hair and have to wash it almost every day 🙃 I don’t think dying my hair purple was a good idea lol I spent so much money, and it’s already fading two weeks in.
Sometimes taking a week off from washing can actually help balance out your scalp. Your hair may be super oily BECAUSE you’re washing it everyday- your scalp is overcompensating for the oils you’re taking away.
What about your clothes? Do you find it bleeds onto clothes, furniture etc when you sweat or if it isnt 100% dry before you put your shirt on? I used splat and im leaving purple smudges everwhere! I noticed you were wearing white so i wondered if that shirt stays white!?
It's a little bit of a complicated question just because I constantly used overtone to add more color, so there was always fresh pigment in my hair. I didn't really have issues with my dry hair on white clothes or sheets. A little bit of transfer from sweating on baseball hats though. Wet hair just with water didn't bleed but if I added overtone or washed with shampoo, a lot of color would come out onto the tub (and I would bleach the tub every time) so I think it really depends on how you're maintaining your hair.
There is a new product out that is an apple cider vinegar rinse it is by Heritage by Mindy McKnight. It is called an apple a day. It is around seven or so dollars. I haven’t tried it yet, but I would like to try it. Also, I’ve never used an apple cider vinegar rinse before.
Depends on the color you want, it you want the same color as her then you don't really have to bleach it first and that's the same for any other dark colors but if you're going for a light or bright vibrant color you're going to want to bleach it first.
My hair was lightened beforehand. I started out with rose gold hair which faded into kinda a brassy pink which is what I applied the purple over. If you don't lighten your hair, you'll end up with more of a tint that will show up in the sun.
@@agatha3499 you're welcome! I just got my hair dyed about the color of hers today, it's a little darker though, I did it over dark brown hair and it looks fine! It definitely is purple just dark purple.
No, it's actually pretty normal for healthy hair and scalp in my case. It depends on the person and hair type. www.byrdie.com/is-it-bad-to-wash-your-hair-every-day
I never had color bleed on to the face but yes you could end up with a little color transfer on hats if the color is fresh (like you dyed it and haven’t done a few shampoos yet) since I was using overtone to maintain my color every time I showered, that’s something I dealt with. If you just use the arctic fox and then maybe shampoo a couple times then there shouldn’t be color transfer
I used hair color remover to remove my black over blonde colors and it went to a ginger color, I dyed it with artic fox purple rain but it isn’t as vibrant and bright as I wanted it to be. I want to lighten it and make it pop more without bleach but I don’t know if that’s possible :((( I might just have to bleach and redo my hair I just hate to bleach it twice in a 6 month span
You might be able to tone the yellow/orange shade you got when you took out the black. I wouldn't do another round of bleaching without a professional!
I work at sallys, the way i like doing up keep is using one part conditioner and one part whatever semi permanent and i use it after i shampoo every 1-2 weeks inbetween coloring and let it set about 5 minutes

Does this purple require pre-lightning, or can I put it on virgin hair and expect good results?
Is there any permanent purple dye?
Hi Miranda, have u tried the amethyst purple from Joico?

Anne McBride I’d put purple over it until the lightened part was SUPER grown out. Then I went to the salon just to get the roots dyed, and went home and did purple myself
I recently had my hair lightened in a bayalage and purple put in but it’s already fading in some areas. If I had to choose one would you recommend this over overtone? Mine has a mix of light and dark purple.
It depends on how you're using it. I would use overtone to "freshen up" color while washing, but Arctic Fox if I'm wanting the color strong as like an actual color job.
Thanks! Really helpful
Have you used the brand kuul, color violet? What other purples have you tried?
I haven't! I've done Arctic Fox, Overtone and Manic Panic. I also did some ion semi permanents before I went purple but I wasn't a huge fan
Entry this was a really helpful video thank you very much x ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Did you bleach your hair when you used the hair dye?
Before using for the first time yes, but not before every time
I love it ♡
How long did it last if you still can remember? I am willing to use same color and same bottle
It all just depends on your maintenance. Following this exact routine I could go a month and a half or two even without redoing the color.
Bleaching frightens me to be honest.. anyways thank you very much. Have a good day
NAJWA AZRAQ I don’t blame you, it’s easy to damage the hair by bleaching. If you go to a hairstylist they can do it for you with the right products to avoid as much damage as possible!
Does this work on dark brown hair?
If you want it vibrant you have to bleach first. Otherwise it will tint it and make your hair darker
thanks! really helpful
So glad I could help! Thanks for watching and commenting!

not all heroes wear capes
Have you tried the new overtone for brown hair?
I’ve got a video on it! 😃 but keep in mind my hair is lightened underneath!
What lipstick is this 😻
too faced melted matte-tallic in scream my name 💜
@@slashedbeauty off to locate this!! Thanks for sharing.
How badly does Arctic Fox stain fingers as you wear it (not during the application)? I'm four weeks into a salon purple dye job and my fingernails are STILL constantly purple any time I itch my head :(
I would say that happens more if my hair is sweaty, and my nails always tinted in the shower as well. It’s pretty common for semi permanent hair dye!
SAME THING WITH MY PINK HAIR RN
Did you bleach it prior or did you use it on dark hair??
Kasey Kaloustian it was bleached, then dyed rose gold, then faded!
@@slashedbeauty thank you so much!!!!
Yes finally a video for purple hair! I’ve had it since Jan but I have straight thin hair what shampoo? 😩
Ps
Where did you buy oVertone ?
You buy overtone on their site-- link in the description! The products I talk about would be okay for thin hair when used in smaller amounts!
Slashed Beauty can I still use it on salon dyed purple not what you have or box? Will it work the same or ruin ?
@@morgangonzales9871 Sure! I started using overtone over salon-dyed rose gold hair and it was fine. I would let your purple fade a bit before using it though!
Also depending on what color you want, the best purple color i have found that sticks to my hair is joico in amethyst purple! They have a huge selection of colors and I recommend them 100% anybody seeing this comment, thank me later lol
Hi, do you use it on dark hair, please? I would like to dye my hair purple but I don't want to bleach it.
Yes, if you want the vibrant color you need to lighten a bit. Otherwise you'll end up with maybe just a slight tint
@@pennyiris1753 thank you so much for your reply. Yes, I take your advice and try dying it a lighter shade first. I'll see how it turns out :)
@@slashedbeauty Thank you for your reply! :D
It looks beautiful
Thank you so much!!!
I swear a lot when I work out! I literally have to wash my hair everyday!! :(
Dry shampoo is your besssst friend, or at least hair rinses like the ACV one I use! I work out daily as well!
Wow
i just dyed my ends purple lol
Nice

There is a new product out that is an apple cider vinegar rinse it is by Heritage by Mindy McKnight. It is called an apple a day. It is around seven or so dollars. I haven’t tried it yet, but I would like to try it. Also, I’ve never used an apple cider vinegar rinse before.
Wow really?? I'd love to try that. I love the dpHue one but it's definitely expensive!
your links are not working
thanks, just fixed!
someone help me do I really have to bleach my hair to make the color show or can i dye my hair first with light brown?
Depends on the color you want, it you want the same color as her then you don't really have to bleach it first and that's the same for any other dark colors but if you're going for a light or bright vibrant color you're going to want to bleach it first.
My hair was lightened beforehand. I started out with rose gold hair which faded into kinda a brassy pink which is what I applied the purple over. If you don't lighten your hair, you'll end up with more of a tint that will show up in the sun.
thank you for the replies ♥️ I recently dyed my hair light brown
@@agatha3499 you're welcome! I just got my hair dyed about the color of hers today, it's a little darker though, I did it over dark brown hair and it looks fine! It definitely is purple just dark purple.
My purple streaks turn mahogany red 😭
🥺
It's better than blue!
NRage Demi permanent hair colors are the best!! And it smells like Bubble gum! Lasts longer than any other fun color brands.
The Purple Rain smells like grape... I loooove it!
EVERY 6 DAYS ? THATS GROSS !!
No, it's actually pretty normal for healthy hair and scalp in my case. It depends on the person and hair type. www.byrdie.com/is-it-bad-to-wash-your-hair-every-day
Yeah that’s definitely not gross, that’s a childish thing to say. Some black women like myself can shampoo 2-3 times a month and it’s completely fine.
If I sweat a lot, will the color bleed onto my baseball cap or run down my face?
