Hello! We met at that conference in York in May! Im building a shed in the garden and your video popped up, a great suprise!Ill be using the merhods you detail here for my base.
Fair play for persisting with the manual tamping, I wouldn’t have had the patience 😂 Just did a similar job yesterday but on a very small patch and this video popped up. I was mixing concrete in buckets - hard work and i’m still feeling the pain. The job you’ve done looks superb btw.
Hi. Thanks for videos. Superb work. Looking at doing this myself. Could I ask if you have plans available and also I was looking at a 6m x4m build. Would the structure still be suitable or would it need additional support? Thanks very much.
Yeah plans are actually going to be available soon, you can get notified by signing up at the following link: thediyfix.com/garden-room-materials-download/ Regarding additional support, you should probabaly double up your joists if they are spanning over 2.6m. Just bolt together two joists with M10 coach bolts
Just watched your full build timelapse and have come here to watch it from the start - you’ve done an amazing job! I’m inspired to follow your approach, looks fantastic! What are your thoughts on rebar to reinforce the concrete slab? Or is that overkill? Thanks again for sharing these videos.
You did a great job building this room. Cheers!! just watched the whole series. what was the L x W of this Garden room? I was thinking of building a 12 x 10 Size Shed learning from you....
@@thediyfix oh wow! That’s almost the same as what my build would be. Going back to your build anything you would recommend to reduce the wastage of materials (wood/boards) etc?
hey im in the process of doing this in my garden right now, I just liked this video so I can come back to it whilst I'm doing it. I haven't got many tools but I will take my time and ensure measurements are correct etc. I just wondering, sometimes people use like black layer of tarpooling type of thing before anything goes down, is that essential to use? Thanks so much
Yeah that is Dpm. I added mine above that slab between the base and the floor, both are legitimate ways of doing it. If you add it below you will need to add sand above the hardcore, then dpm, and then concrete
Ive seen other similar builds where the main frames built straight ontop of the concrete base with a dpm underneath. Is this way done just so you could add insulation sheets to the floor?
Hi, how did you know what depth to dig down ? is there a recommended depth that the height pg the timber frame needs to be to support the mot type 1 and then the cement ? Ideally I would want the shed base to be slightly above ground level
Honestly I didnt have a set depth I just leveled it, which meant the highest point on the right was down 75-80mm and the lowest point on the back left was pretty much flush with the original ground level
Need some advice about a base … I’m about to get my garden shed built . Do I need insulation on the floor ? If so how do it do that? Obviously want to keep it as heated as possible and stop damp

Thats crazy that you just stumbled onto it Anthony. Good luck with your shed. Are you going to the conference this year?
I put it down to your expert knowledge of the algo. Probably not this year, got my head down and carrying on. How about you?
@@anthonyjpaul Yeah I'll be there mate got my ticket a couple of weeks after the last one
Very very nice building,, you have made. Looks very nice and solid. I would probably have chosen a wooden floor for your fine building
I did add a wooden floor on top of the base. You can watch it in the next video
Great video thanks, do you know anyone in Derby area who could help with similar work?
Glad you liked the video. Sorry, I dont know anyone in the Derby area

Thanks for the comment mate. It was hard work and definitely felt it for a couple of days after :)

Good job, I probably would have put some rebar in just to make it a bit stronger but like I said good job
Thanks Daniel
Sent here by Rag'n'Bone! Looking forward to watching through this build.
Thanks mate, hope you enjoy them. Any questions let me know and I’ll do my best to help 👍🏻

Thanks for watching, glad you like the videos
Regarding rebar, my understanding was I didn’t need it for a base of this size and depth.
Thank you

Hi Sam there was a few reasons, but yes insulation was one of them.

How many bulk bags of ballast and cement did it take please? Thanks.
There’s a link in the description where you can download a full list of materials and prices for the entire build
How much ballast was needed I have a similar area I want to Concrete over (you mention 1 ton MOT, I don’t want to over order- thanks )
2 tonnes of 20mm ballast
How much concrete and sand. I need for 16x8 ft base for cement
It will depend on depth as well, but just google concrete calculator.
