Garden Catastrophe Restoration | You won't Believe this Jungle!!!

  • Well, have I got a crazy one for you today. This really does bring a new meaning to garden jungle restoration. This one came through to the call centre and was asked to go around, have a look and do a quote. When I saw the place, I was shocked. You could hardly access the back for overgrown blackberries. And that was just the start of this unbelievable garden adventure. All up, I spent around 12 hours on this cleanup, with 3 trips to the landfill.

    FAQ's:
    Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
    Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
    1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
    2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
    3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
    4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
    5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
    Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

It never ceases to amaze me how much very well done hardscape is uncovered when George cleans up a yard. Kudos to the builders of houses in the old days--and hired landscape architects--and DIY landscape gardeners who put in the lovely rock edged flower beds and the lovely tiled patios and brick lined walkways. There was an era in Hobart and surrounding suburbs when all of that was done, and, it's held up well.

In our young life, not safeguarding your lungs from all that may eventually have a negative cumulative effect on you. I say that with concern because I know many of the younger generation think, "It won't happen to me", only to regret it later in life. I'm always amazed when you find beautiful brick patios/walkways and stonework underneath all that overgrowth! You are a miracle worker! Beautiful job. I'm sure the homeowner really appreciated all your hard work. Love your videos!

Yes, the good old blackberry, a really prickly beast, I have it in the garden myself. But if you keep an eye on it, it can't spread unintentionally.
The courtyard now looks nice and tidy again and there's room for garden furniture on the patio again. Well done.👍

Love watching you tackle these gardens you do a great job. Looks like a usable yard again. Would love to have seen some pressure washing on the patio and paths. But regardless you do a wonderful job in these difficult yards. Amazing !! ❤❤
I live in Australia and what I don't understand is if there was a house fire and they couldn't get out the front door. As the door by clothes line was blocked and the sliding doors on the side. Please people consider your safety !!

Perfect! The outdoor space is now accessible and usable again. You definitely see a lot of blackberry bushes in residential yards. In my area blackberries are normally found out in the woodland areas. Wonderful job helping this home owner.

I hate blackberries too. I reckon you could wear a suit of armour, and they’d still get to you!
My favourite thing is when you find hidden paths & patios. Add in the sharp edging and I’m so happy.
You always make my day. 👏👏❤
