  • Hey y'all! I hope this video helps you to find the date and city for your old bottles. Sorry about the camera glitches. It decided it hated me for some reason.
Here is the link I promised for the glass bottle website glassbottlemarks.com/
I will have a link to buy the items shown in the video sometime in the next week.

Hi Ashlyn! I happened to run across your video and wanted to thank you for the mention of my glass marks site! It is certainly appreciated! Also, although I can't guarantee this, your jar with the zinc lid *might* have held some type of pickles or pickled vegetables, or maybe a salsa, chili sauce or similar type of tomato-based food product. As you know, a huge variety of jar and bottle designs were made by Owens-Illinois (and other bottle makers) over a long period of time and often its hard to be sure what was in them without the original label still attached. Also those zinc jar lids were originally used mostly with fruit jars (canning jars), but they also fit well on many other types of product jars and bottles. Take care, David

Just ran across this video. Thought I'd tell you something interesting. I was born in Huntington WVA, lived in Charlotte, Toledo and Brockport. I worked at the Brockport Plant, and then the Tracy CA plant. I've been in the Huntington plant before it closed, along with Atlanta. I visited the Streator plant when they were still running the old Owens machines. Funny you know more about the date codes than I do, and I've made millions of them.

You are a delightful young lady! Thank you for being interested in antiques! Most young people have no interest and that is sad.

Thank you! It is sad that a lot of people are not interested in antiques anymore. I'm trying to help boost people's interest and make it fun!

Hello there. Very informative video. My owens bottle has the O with square around it logo, and just the number 31 to the right. Can you help me deciper what year it might be from? It is a fluted ketchup-type bottle

I randomly watched this video this morning and here we are 6 hours later I pull this little bottle out of the creek.
So on the bottom there’s a 20 with a dot on the left, the emblem is centered, and on the right is a 0. Please help me date this bottle.

My first question would be which emblem is on the bottom of the bottle. They have had at least three emblems over the years.
The one with the oval, diamond, and I they used 1929-1950.
The one without the diamond they used in the mid 1950's to sometime around 1997 I believe.
The O-I logo was used from 1997 to now.

@@ashlynsantics it’s the o diamond and I. Fun fact I used to install conveyor belt systems and one job took me to Tracy California to the OI plant.

@@rogerc9053 that's really cool that you've been to one of their plants!! As far as your bottle goes, I'd say it might've been made in Backinridge Pennsylvania, or Oakland CA. (Plants would sometimes reuse plant codes, so sometimes it is hard to pinpoint where exactly it was made.)
As far as the date goes, if the period is after the number on the right there's a good chance it's from the 1940s. If there's no period on the right, my best guess is 1930.

Hi Cory! To me it sounds like a bottle made by Illinois Glass co before they joined with Owens Glass co. That mark was used from 1915 to about 1926. To know the specific date of your bottle I would have to see if there are any number markings. If you can locate any number or letter markings on the bottle, I would be happy to research it for you!
If you're curious, and would like to do some of your own research here is a wonderful website that you can check out. The guy who runs it knows a lot more than I do and has a comment section if you can't find the answer on his website.
