Here is a link to us digging a straight side Coke in one of our local dumps! All bottles shown were dug by me. ruclips.net/video/PCPjX8w8fRs/видео.html
I hope you can help me, but all I have is the base of a coke bottle with Chicago ILL on it, with no pebbeling. I found it looking for sea glass here in Chicago and I'm wondering how long it's been out there, thanks.
I've not seen any information on : clear glass, straight sided, RIBBED, Coke bottles. I've seen a few variants on line listed as : antique, rare, and valuable, but, with no specific details. Do you have info on these ? Thanks !
We found the mother load of bottles right as it started getting dark today and can't wait to get back to dig it out.. We noticed a christmas coke and a old dr pepper sticking out of the creek wall and realized bottles were sticking out everywhere!
Years ago I worked for Coke in rural Australia. All of our bottles were made by Australian Glass Manufacturers Ltd in Adelaide, South Australia. We were trained (read brainwashed) every Friday morning on the Coke Company and its history. I recall that the marketing thinking behind what you call the Hobble Skirt (?) shaped bottle is that Coke's object was that if you were in a dark room anywhere in the world and were handed a Coke bottle you would instantly recognise what it was. So the bottle shape patent was closely gaurded by Coke and was the subject of much litigation in the USA by other drink companies wanting to poach the shape. We were also told the colour was patented and is called "Georgia Green". Cobalt and other elements are added to a white glass mix to get Georgia Green and our glass makers often had trouble at the start of a Coke run getting the colour right. And so we could get some blue coke bottles one of which i rescued from the cullet pile. I really enjoy your videos so keep up the good work. I have to say that i am really alarmed at the amount of rubbish in your creeks and that it seems that it is being added to by the current generation (?)
I found a pretty flawless straight side from Terre haute, our local bottling company. It has all the lettering from the middle down, and somehow it survived a recent creek dredging.
Ty. I went fishing today (sat. 6,2024) and i found a coke bottle in the stream that i was fishing in. and i put it in my back pack and went home. just now, i was trying to do research on the year of the bottle and like you said it was on the side of the bottle. 54 and the bottom is stamped with fort smith arkansas with an L in the middle. so 1954...Thank you again for the info Sir!
I worked for a Coke franchise in Vernon BC, Canada in the late 1950s, and when we sorting, we used to see bottles from a lot of locations in the Western US. on days when we weren't busy, It was a standing challenge to find the location furthest from our plant. We also saw the green hobbleskirt bottles with no location. I can't remember if that was common or not. For nostalgia sake, I wish I would have saved some. A little humourous note, I spilled approximately 10 cases of empties onto the Trans Canada Highway near Chase BC, on a windy day, while returning from my rounds. It took a lot of sweeping for me to clean up the mess. I do have two 6 oz. Canadian bottles, one a pop top from 1958, and another 6 oz screw top bottle, also dated 58. Thanks for the memories.
Finally able to date my beach bottle coke. (complete bottle complete naturally beach glass) found at the beach. :) Love that you actually give some history and learn from you... :) you guys rock (you and your better half).
Thank you for the information! That helps a lot. I do have a 1 pint, 10 ounce bottle, from 1955. that I won in a raffle. I have it set up as a sprinkle bottle for ironing clothes to show how we did it with the "sad" irons (heat on stove, cast iron) and no starch. I have a 14 1/2 oz. Linda Pinkmans Medicine bottle, that would be my oldest one besides my Ball Jars.
Thank you so much. I just found a hobbleskirt bottle in the washout in my driveway. It’s without the date but has the numbers on the side. Mine is from 1961 thank you so awesome!
Glad I found your video, helped me with an estimated date my aqua straight sided Huntsville Bottling Works Coca Cola and 2 amber straight sided Coca Colas, one Chattanooga TN and the other New York NY
Thank you! Just dated my straight side with your help! It's the newer one. It's semi unique in that it is just as purple as it can be! Beautiful! It's my understanding that the manganese in the glass oxidizes when exposed to sunlight. This oxidation turns the glass a sort of deep amethyst color. Found it in an old farm house dump in Georgia. Score!!! Subscribed and rang that bell!
Thanks. I found out that I have a 1963 bottle from your video. I restored a early 50s Cavalier Coke Machine C-51 for my house last winter. I get the 6 oz bottles at Walmart for like $4.68 for 6 & sell them in my machine for 5 cents.
This is just what I needed. I just learned about bottle digging by stumbling across one of your videos two days ago. I am hooked and can't wait to go and do it myself. Thank you for the information.
My grand paw gave me a 1923 coke bottle one with out the cap on it and it looks like new when he found it in the dirt of a Kentucky garden from his row tiller plowed it up out of the dirt I saw him do it from out of the winder of the houses thanks Koch brothers
I have listened to you and Clayton, Brandon, talk about different Cokes you have found, dug, or whatever. Never really knew how you guys " instantlyknew the dates and the different terms for the Cola-Colas. Now I have a better understanding! Thank you--very informative! HH
Hi, not sure if you still check msgs here but I have a question. I just acquired a case of older bottles. Watched this helpful video. 1 of the bottles I'm not sure of the date. PAT D 1929 all it has is a number 4 on the curve. ALSO it doesn't have just a dash between the two numbers it has a symbol that looks kind of like a spaceship for lack of a word/visual. Any thoughts?
Some of the 1915 Coke's have date codes along the heel. I have one that says root 19 another that says root 25 and another that says EC 24. Some bottlers here in NC used straight sides up until 1917. And some used 1915 cokes until the mid twenties like the two I have.
Over the course of the past month I’ve found a 1915 patent, a 1923 patent, and a 1952 dated bottle just on the surface while I was doing volunteer work for the Preserve district.
I have one of the DEC 25 1923 patent date bottles. It was actually made in CHATTANOOGA TN in 1931,per the DATE CODE (CHATT 31)on the bottom-side of the bottle.Opposite side has the number 73.Bottle-Bottom says ETOWAH TENN.
I've been cleaning the parish canals and ditches around south Louisiana and I can tell you I have over 50 skirt coke bottles and from different states and cities . I'm running out of room lol
If you are into Coke bottles, get you a copy of Bill Porters book. I'm using it as a reference to collect all the Cokes for the state of Indiana. He has all the states (I believe) in his book. It's got a lot of good info in it too
That is some great information. I have a coke bottle and the maker of the bottle was root. So I’m thinking I have one of the older bottles... again thank you 😊
it is very interesting that in USA the crown seals were used so early. here in Australia-crown seals didn't really appear until after about 1915. Average 1920's. So when you are getting crown seals here in Australia-you know your 1918-1930. Usually all blob tops before that here.
Regarding dating Pat D bottles you have to use the 2nd number for the year if there was an L instead of a dash. Laurens glass company placed the year 2nd. Example I have a Pat D with a code of 15L42.
Riddle me this! There are three youtube digging channels to watch but only have time for one, what do you do? #1 One that shows you what they get or #2 One you won't forget or #3 another teaches you along the way. Adventure Archaeology of course what else is there to say!
I love this bottle channel, I am learning so much.. as I said before in another video. I have so many bottles here, I got out of an old barn. And I never really looked at them till I started watching this channel. Thank u guys so much
Thanks SO MUCH for this helpful video!! You cleared up some things I had been wondering about! I have been reading & looking for videos on how to best determine the age of antique bottles in general, and what the various bottle making techniques and methods were over time, so that I could study a bottle and identify manufacturing methods & it's approx. age. Would love to see a video on signs of applied top, tooled top, mold seams, pontil marks, etc Thanks for this great video - and for such excellent quality & content! This is one of my favorite channels! 🙂👍
Hey thanks for the info. I have the last bottle in your video however there is no date on the bottle. What's missing from my bottle is what you explain at 3:28. How do you know what year it's from then?
I found a WWII era patent d coke up near Lake James in NC. The manufacturer was in Asheville and the date said 1943. Not as rare as a straight side or an amber bottle but still a cool piece of history nonetheless
Awesome! I was wondering the age of a straight-side coke bottle I have that says "The Live Oak, FL Coca-Cola Bottling Company" on it. This helped a ton!
I have a chunk of what I think is an old coke bottle that came up when diffing in my garden. Pretty sure its a chunk of the bottom part, but only markings I can read after cleaning it are 7626 and then a copyright symbol then 2S then another letter I cant make out. Its got that blue tint to it, and Ive held plenty of old coke bottles. Wish I could tell if it was a coke bottle or not.
I'd like to find one of the first disposable glass Coke bottles that I saw around 1965. They were throwaway glass bottles like the older ones in this video with straight sides and had the hobble skirt bottle image embossed on the side inside a rounded off diamond frame. They weren't around long as cans and plastic took off the next year.
What about the clear ones with the hourglass shape, that doesn't have any numbers on the side, but does have numbers on the very bottom? It is a 10 oz, with a regular Coca Cola script on one side and COKE written on the other, but it was formed in the glass when it was molded. I actually found it buried in the dirt today, and brought it in and cleaned it up. I know it's been there awhile because I've live where I am for over 11 years now and it wasn't there until the ground was disturbed, and since they don't make the 10 oz glass anymore, especially the clear ones, I figure it was a special one, because I've only ever seen them in the green glass, not the clear.

Dug a circle slug straight side coke today, coshocton ohio bottling works.. have you seen any slug cokes brandon?
u@@ZacLowing
i have had a pile of coke bottles that I dug up years ago, now I know what i have after all these years Thanks!
I dated a Coke bottle once. She left me for Big Red.
Big red is parked in my front yard, 1960 front wheel drive ford, got his name on it
Update on Big Red… he wasn’t making enough money for her so she dumped him and married a doctor. Dr. Pepper is his name.
We found the mother load of bottles right as it started getting dark today and can't wait to get back to dig it out.. We noticed a christmas coke and a old dr pepper sticking out of the creek wall and realized bottles were sticking out everywhere!

wow. thank you for this. I found a coke bottle in great shape a few years ago on a beach. Now I know it is from 1952. Perfect
I found a pretty flawless straight side from Terre haute, our local bottling company. It has all the lettering from the middle down, and somehow it survived a recent creek dredging.
That was much easier than I thought it would be to date! I just found one from 1955 lying in pristine condition in the middle of the woods.

As a collector one must look for other treasures to collect Coke bottles is one RC Cola and Pepsi 7up. just loving it

Whats the price range of a nov 16 1915 coke bottle ?
Hi, not sure if you still check msgs here but I have a question. I just acquired a case of older bottles. Watched this helpful video. 1 of the bottles I'm not sure of the date. Yep every where was a bit different. Just depended on how cheap the local bottler was hahha
I just watched this video cause I have wondered the age of some of my coke bottles thanks for the information, have a great day!
Thanks for the info. I know the straight side Cokes are much older. But this info is gold!!!
Cool. I found one like your last one hiking in the woods that is marked 61-53. It's in good condition too.
Over the course of the past month I’ve found a 1915 patent, a 1923 patent, and a 1952 dated bottle just on the surface while I was doing volunteer work for the Preserve district.
Thanks for the info. I dug a perfectly good 1952 coke bottle today while metal detecting date code 52 24
Quick, educational and will definitely be watching again to date my coke bottles.
Thanks!
that is some good information. I had never really hunted bottles before but will be on the lookout now
Keep your eyes pealed 😎
