Hi Tennessee North! I love listening to your trips "back down memory lane." Those were some of my fondest memories as well. I was born in the mid 50's, but my experiences are very similar to yours. My family is mixed as well...honestly, I don't know anyone whose family isn't. As you said, like the many species of flowers, we are all God's children. I continue to pray that racial disparity ends. Again, thank you for sharing your wonderful stories and delicious recipes. God bless you and your family. 🙏❤️

I agree Tennessee that we should learn from the past and try to do our best moving forward. We are all made in God's image and we should love one another!
Your burger looks good!! I was also born in 1963 and I started off in a Black school, with a few White and Hispanic. I had a White and Hispanic friend when I was in Elementary, School, but we didn't look at color we were all friends. When I entered Middle and High school there were a few, but we all got along well. I also remember the community parades we would have a good time enjoying the bands. We also had a few greasy hamburger stands and yes coke soda was in a six-ounce bottle. I also have different races in my family. My nephew just married a Hispanic Young Lady last week and my other nephew will soon marry a White Young Lady. I also have mixed First Cousins and my Grandmother's Mom was mixed, we all mixed with something, lol.
🙋🏽♀️Tennessee, I loveee your stories and I can definitely relate to what you're talking about. My siblings and I used to walk downtown(we called it downtown)with our mother to pay bills and visit the five and dime store which was called McLellan's and the dry goods clothing store. I grew up in the 50's and we went to the movie theater and had to go upstairs to the balcony that's where we had to sit. I went to an all black school, Carver High School and we had parades and our band consisted of majorettes, drummers and trumpets and they "cut up" @ the corner of Market St and Live Oak. We had so much fun back then. Thank you for taking me down memory lane! Your burgers look so good 😋 and I'm sure they were.
Hello Queen ❤ Enjoyed story time. Now that burger look so good! I haven’t made a homemade burger in a long time. I will have to make one this week. Thanks for sharing. God bless!!
I’m from New Orleans and we had those burgers in the 60’s too from the K&B. It’s no longer there🤷🏼♀️ I believe you and I are the same age. Born in the early 60’s
That is so awesome! I went to an all Black School. I am here listening and relating: I was in the Band, I remember in my hometown when we would make it to downtown; that is where we cut up.There was nothing like the greasy spoon Cafe's and Rib shack's.🎉😢😅❤😊
I just love watching you eat!!! It makes me so hungry even if I just ate!! You are a wise woman who I just love to listen to you remince about your younger days. I remember all those things you've talked about because my oldest son was your age. When I was in Jr. High there was a little Mom and Pop hamburger stand that was close to the school. We could walk there at lunch and get a greasy hamburger that was so good!! The lady would cook the hamburgers and her husband would make them....she used a coke bottle to flatten the meat patties out. I do remember they had the kids sxhool pictures tacked on the wall or by the cash register. What memories!!
I grew up in a small town and we had a couple of small cafes and we had those greasy burgers... They came all the way with chili mustard, ketchup ,onions and cheese if u wanted .. later on we started adding slaw callin it the Carolina style burgers... I'm a 80's baby and the cheapest I saw was .85 lol of course that wasn a real patty but some places had real meat ❤❤
i am so turned off by all the grunting & fork shaking. if the food is good just say that all that other stuff is so uncalled for,it sounds so awful i,m dropping you & FYI i don,t care who,s kitchen is.
I live in Las Vegas and those hamburgers she talking about we had those here cheap. Candy was 1 cents pops/sodas cost 5 cents. My parents had a restaurant and beauty shop/salon next to each other and lot’s of the stars would come in to eat they didn’t have bodyguards either. The street was called “ Jackson Street “ it was awesome. That was in the sixties seventies and early eighties.

Ms North, I absolutely love you and your stories❤❤ your town, growing up, sounds EXACTLY like mine back in the day! My parents owned a “HAMBURGER SHOP” in our town of Sycamore, Illinois for years. I know what you’ve talking about, with the Burger!,nothing better😋😋😋. Early ‘50s the man that owned it, had a sign hanging off the side of the building shaped like a bag, with burgers falling in it it read, “BURGERS BY THE SACK, $1.00!!! You got a dozen!! Imagine that😮😮 My parents bought it from him in very early “60s”. The first 4 of us siblings worked there. It’s where my dad taught me how to count back change😂😂 I was born in 1954 so I wasn’t very old. My Dad, 996++ years old just passed away Feb 16 th. This brought back sooo many memories for me❤. Thank you for sharing your memories, if only for me. 💕🙏🙏. I forgot to tell you, my town in Sycamore, Illinois always have had a Black community. WE ALL went to school TOGETHER! There is ABSOLUTELY NO prejudice here❤❤ None of US were raised that way. WE, MY FAM, all had black friends and they came to our house to play, birthday parties, bumper pool Etc💕💕

I love these stories. Parade. Bands we loved. Another Black school in Nashville was my school, Cameron. I’m older, so I went to a Black high school. We had a good band led by Leonard Morton, Sr. Meigs also had a good band led by Chic Chavis. So much fun. We had a burger place with 10 cents burgers, soft drinks, beer, ice cream fountain. We could get a milkshake too or ice cream sundae. You sat at the top of the movie theater because it was segregated. My mother worked her 3rd job cleaning it. We had to go down the alley to a side door, while Whites entered the main door on the front. I even worked there at 14 selling tickets in that booth. To me, nothing beats a burger like you just made at home. Looks delicious. My onions would hurt if not sautéed. This video was full of your awesome discussion and wonderful cooking skills. I agree wholeheartedly. I’m not prejudiced either. Amen. I hope it ends completely.
The burgers look amazing and brought back many beautiful memories. I have not had a hamburger since I started my weight loss and health journey many years ago :(

Hi Tennessee North 🖐🏾👍🏼🙏🏾💜
Mashing all the juice out of the burgers, doesn't that make them dry? Burgers look good. Just curious about the purpose of mashing the burgers.
To make sure it’s done on the inside and no it doesn’t make it dry 🥰
Ms. North I remember eating burgers like that. I really enjoy the shared history & stories from you. Looking forward to the next lesson!
