Also, correction:
- Yoshi first appeared in 1990 NOT 1997 (lol silly reading)
- the Koopalings first appeared in SMB3
Okay 👌
Wolf made his first appearance in Star Fox 2 not Star fox 64 Larry,, Roy, Wendy, Iggy, Morton, Lemmy, and Ludwig made their first appearance in super Mario brothers 3 on the NES not super Mario world and snake made his first appearance on metal gear on the MSX not the NES.
@@sharonlowman8806 the original release of star fox 2 was cancelled though. As a result Star fox 64 released 2 decades before star fox 2 when it was finally released as part of the SNES mini console so star fox 64 is considered Wolf's debut.
Correction: Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins on the original Game Boy was released in 1992, not 1996. Also, Wolf’s design in Ultimate is based on his appearance in Star Fox Zero
"We've all been smashing nintendo characters for over 20 years now" this is a great start

34:12 🤓👆Umm actually the koopalings originated from Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES.
Was about to comment that
Erm ackshurlly her name is Leaf
I thought so. I litterally was gonna search if I was right. Thanks for commenting it.
Steve actually originates from an incomplete game called "Zombie Town". While the game never released there are very few videos online of the incomplete build. Notch later reused the model for "Cave Game" which was then renamed to Minecraft: Order of The Stone. A single build later the name was changed again to Minecraft.
Honestly, you could technically say Lucario is a movie-original character.
Plus, will need to rewatch the movie in the near future, but I remember liking it growing up.
You were about to say, but hey that’s a theory a game theory
A gay

I like that Lucina is "better known" as female Marth
Simon's first game was actually Castlevania 1 for the FDS, it's just that the first game released on the West was it's MSX port called Vampire Killer.
Both games are called Akumajō Dracula in Japan.
I believe current DK IS junior's son. Kranky was the original DK, then Junior is his son then Junior… retired? Haha dunno, but somehow current DLk is his child.
I dont know about that because various titles listed him in either the original DK, the Son of the original DK or the grandson of the original DK.
34:12
The Koopalings actually first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES in 1988!
You made a huge mistake!
I can guarantee you my mother does not in fact know this.
Technically, you're wrong about Toon Link. He first appeared in Four Swords in 2002, before Wind Waker in 2003.
Also, Super Mario World in 1997? Super Mario Land 2 in 1996? And I guess those were just random Koopa bosses and not Koopalings in SMB3 then.
That is true.
I think a few characters are notable for being created for one game, but got an earlier appearance in another as foreshadowing or because the game was quicker to make
Luigi - Mario Bros (Arcade) - Mario Bros G&W
Sonic -Sonic the Hedgehog - Rad Mobile
Lucario - Pokemon Diamond Pearl - Mystery of Mew
Toon Link - Wind Waker - Four Swords (Except Japan)
Byleth - Fire Emblem Three Houses - Fire Emblem Heroes
Banjo (no Kazooie) -Banjo-Kazooie - Diddy Kong Racing
There's also Wolf, created for Star Fox 2, but had to wait for 64
Mario is actually a Donkey Kong character, Sonic is a Rad Mobile/Flicky character, Banjo is a Diddy Kong Racing character, Roy is a Smash character, R.O.B is a 4th Party.
It’s just funny to think about a character’s actual first appearance.
If it's any consolation, I only knew about Sephiroth because he was mentioned in Cloud's Final Smash trophy in Smash 4; I otherwise never saw him until Ultimate.
My story with Cloud is even worse. I _heard_ of a character named Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, but didn't know what he looked like. When he was confirmed for Smash 4, I was surprised to see that he was a swordsman, not a mage or deity. Ironically, Cloud would go on to be my favorite swordfighter in Smash.
I don't quite agree with your statements on Donkey Kong; I see him as one and the same from the 1981 arcade game, but I'm not going to pretend that's a big deal.
Seeing the origins of every fighter in Smash is neat.
1:52 - 2:18 Actually, according to Gregg Mayles, who was a designer for Donkey Kong Country and also wrote Cranky's dialogue and the manual for that game, Cranky actually IS DK's grandfather, and the reason he called DK his son in DK64 is because he's become so senile that he doesn't remember their actual relationship. Cranky is also consistently being referred to as DK's grandfather as of Donkey Kong Country Returns.
The one time Cranky is referred to as DK's father in current times was in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the backstory is all different there anyway: the entire Kong family lives in the same dimension as the Mushroom Kingdom and Bowser's army, which is established to be an entirely different dimension from where Mario and Luigi (and Pauline) come from: New York City, and that the Kongs did not meet Mario until the events of that movie. This means that Cranky NEVER kidnapped Pauline and NEVER fought Mario before, and that Cranky NEVER had the "Donkey Kong" moniker in the first place: the Mario rivalry and the moniker went to his son, meaning that his son now is the original Donkey Kong and NOT Donkey Kong Jr or even Donkey Kong III or something (in fact, Donkey Kong Jr probably _doesn't even exist_ in The Super Mario Bros. Movie). So, Cranky being DK's dad there means nothing concerning their respective identities.
(Also fun fact, _Diddy Kong_ was originally intended to be Donkey Kong Jr, but the design was so different that Nintendo requested to make him an entirely new character instead)
4:48 “Yoshi made his first appearance in 1997”
Video barely started and you already made a big oof
I have made a crucial error
4:49 he actually appeared in 1990/1991
4:59 yoshi went to the dark side land💀🤌
We’ve all been doing what to Nintendo characters? 🤣
Isn't it funny that I knew all of these? Just goes to show how much of my time I spend watching these kinds of videos XD
I'd switch the tier placements of Kazuya and the Shotos because I'm pretty sure anyone's grandma would know what Tekken is, even the first one, but not everyone knows about the first Street Fighter game.
Hell most folks thought Ryu and Ken debuted in SF2 I feel
41:30 I mean yeah, but no, B&K was being made WAY before DKR, since 1995.
Saying Banjo & Kazooie came from DKR is wrong, still is the game they are named after they came from, doesn't matter which came first, especially since the game was shown off PRIOR to DKR's release.
I agree since Banjo himself debut in DKR while Kazooie debut in Banjo's own game.
This was a good, entertaining video, but I gotta say some of the placements here are definitely a bit strange. For the FE characters, why are Chrom and Lucina in a separate tier from Robin, when all 3 of them originate from the same game, and Chrom is literally the main protagonist of Awakening? Also, while Ike is definitely popular, there is no way your average gamer knows the origins of Ike more then Chrom and Lucina, since both of Ike's games are some of the worse selling games in the FE series. Also, while Wario is obviously a very well known character, most people aren't gonna know that he originated from Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy. These aren't a huge deal or anything, but I felt they were worth pointing out.
"Yoshi appeared in 1997 in SMW for the SNES"
_cough cough_ 1992's Yoshi's Cookie for the NES
Except he got the release year for Mario World totally wrong. It released in 1990 in Japan and 1991 in North America.
SMW was 1991, he just got the year wrong.
45:16 Ah, Terry from The King of Fighters, just like Captain Falcon from Smash. It’s Fatal Fury.
Bro people do not know about link more than mario!I didn't even know about link till I was nine
I always thought the ice climber image is a vegetable with eyes this vegetable 🍆

Actually🤓☝️ Snake first appearence was in the MSX version of Metal Gear, not the NES version (which is different). Also, even in Brawl, Snake is an hybrid version of Solid Snake and Naked Snake modelwise, though the codec calls confirm we are playing as Big Boss' enfant terrible named David.
I got another one, smaller but still. 🤓 Actually Alphs first appearance in a Smash game was for the 3ds and wii u instead of Ultimate.
Kinda weird that somebody only knows that Snake's first appearance is Metal Gear from NES. Actually the first console game is in MSX2(along with its sequel, Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake) made by the creator Hideo Kojima (The same creator who made Metal Gear Solid 1)
Akira toriyama was the character designer for dragon quest which is why the characters look similar to dragon ball
Yoshi is from 1990, not '97.
Also, the Koopa Kids appeared first in Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988), not Super Mario World.
I agree since SMW was their 2nd main title series appearance.
One detail about Sheik is that unlike his appearances in other Smash games, the suit she wears is based on the stealth suit seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Using his and he pronouns to address Sheik? 😂
@@Sjono Sorry. I'm Chilean, and I'm still learning English, although I used the translator lmao
@@ninmar9931sheik was masculine in the original ocarina of time so you can say Zelda transformed into a man through the use of magic and stuff, so yeah sheik can be a he. Nintendo made sheik more feminine following the remakes of ocarina of time and onward though.
For Bowser, I think the explanation is that since he has a castle or area of power in a part of the Mushroom Kingdom. He wants to take control of ALL of Mushroom Kingdom. So he needs to kidnap Peach to take control of her land.
"We've been Smashing Nintendo characters for over 20 years now." Wow, you had to throw is in like that. Lol. 💀
i surprised how fox is higher than mario
With your logic, any of the Link's can be originated from Skyward Sword as well

Actually The Donkey Kong In Smash Bros. Is Donkey Kong Jr.'s Son Making His First Appearance Donkey Kong Country.
Retcons don’t retroactively change history
DK debuted in Donkey Kong case closed
@@Sjono That Was Not A Retcon, It Was Shown In The First Donkey Kong Country's Opening Scene, Where Cranky Is Seen On The Girders From The Original Game, Playing The Original Game's Theme.
@@epp678
That’s the very definition of a retcon
There was no Cranky Kong in the original Donkey. Donkey Kong was just Donkey Kong
@@Sjono Cranky Was In The In The Original Donkey Kong, Where He Was Donkey Kong, And If You Don't Believe Me, Go Onto The Donkey Wiki And Search Up "Donkey Kong", And It Will Bring Up The Current DK Showing His Name To Be Donkey Kong III, Making Cranky The First, And DK Jr. The Second
@@SjonoNM I Found On The Super Mario Wiki's Page For Donkey Kong It Says He First Appeared In Donkey Kong, But It Also Says "As The Original Donkey Kong", With The Original Donkey Kong Text Having A Link To Cranky, So We Were Both Right.
Amazing!! 40:02
That version of Zelda isn’t the same as the one from the original game but from a link between worlds (and unlike link, she isn’t the reincarnation of the original Zelda but simply a descendants)
34:15 no they first appeared in super Mario bros 3 for the nes
“We’ve been smashing Nintendo characters for over 20 years now”
great wording
"we've all been smashing nintendo characters for 20 years" 💀💀💀
Arcade DK and DKC DK are the same character. Smash Bros Ultimate literally identifies him as a character that originated in 1981 and the one that kidnapped lady (a.k.a. Pauline) and tried to stop Mario from rescuing her.
Cool!! 10:24
Actually the koopalings first appeared in super mario bros 3.
20:54 no that is taylor swift
I got scared when you said if it exists
We’ve doing WHAT? For over 20 years???
0:00 I’d be down with this as long as they at least ARE 20 years old.
Dr disrespect definitely mains young link
31:20 Did you smoke some oddish? Before making this? Where the heck you see Pac-Man?
FYI Three Houses isn't the newest game in the franchise, that would be Engage
Do not call pokemon by the singular "they". Mewtwo has always been an "it" in the series. If you do not know the gender of a singular pokemon, then it will always be referred to as an it.
Snake debuted on the MSX😬
🤦🤦 Yoshi did not make his debut in 1997... You apparently googled your resources without prior knowledge. But I can't believe you didn't double check your material before uploading this. Who on earth thought that Mario World was released in 1990. Even your mother knows this...

Actually 🥸☝️ ness’ first appearance was Earthbound Beginnings or “Mother” which came out in 1989
Ness is not in earthbound beginnings thats Ninten
@@sonich23 I agree since Ninten and Ness looked similar but they are COMPLETELY different.
But r.o.b will not be their for the next video game crash that will be worse than 1983. Nintendo and the rest aaa and indie game companies will be bankrupt when the video game crash of 2025 happens. And believe me. It will be worse than 1983.
The dk we all know and love is actually dk the III donkey Kong jr is HIS father also known as dk the II and for filler the original dk in the arcade game is actually donkey Kong the III’s grandfather Cranky Kong meaning cranky was the og dk and yes I saw the part with the rare ware interview thing but apparently Nintendo acted like never existed and still called dk the grandson of Cranky
Edit: Fun fact some people say donkey kong III’s son is diddy Kong but dk had no children and Nintendo confirmed diddy was his nephew
Bro diddy is probably the son of Funky King
