- Happy 50th anniversary to the Buffalo Sabres and their (slightly insane) inside joke at the 1974 NHL draft that took the league months to unravel.
A TSN Original from James Duthie, originally produced for the 40th anniversary in 2014: The Man Who Never Was.

There are SO MANY gags the sabres pulled in the NHL back in the 70's... Some of their press releases turned heads.. and invariably nobody took time with all but this one to look at the calendar.. April 1.. like when they announced they were moving to a Nylon playing surface.. as it didn't need refrigeration would save money..among other things.. some of the gags were hilarious..
They ought to retire his number!

The league the should re-instate the pick.
Only four years since the Sabres existence, they picked a fake pick as a joke. Instead, they could have picked Stefan Persson, who was chosen by the Islanders i the 14th round. Persson went on to play nine seasons and win four Stanley Cups. People laugh at the Tsujimoto pick. I laugh at the Sabres for their continuing foolishness, including picking Ric Seiling over Mike Bossy a few years later.

This "inside joke" is juvenile and stupid. The Sabres only hurt themselves and insulted the draft-eligible players by drafting a non-existent player.
