- It doesn’t matter how much time and effort is put into scouting a player, a players future in the NHL is never guaranteed! We've seen some highly touted players drafted into the league who went on to never play a single NHL Game. Keeping that in mind, in this video we're going to be looking at The WORST Draft Bust For All 32 NHL Teams.

The Kyle Beach pick was classless man, you're better than that
Why would you put Kyle Beach here? Considering the abuse he experienced with the Hawks yeah, I don't think anyone wouldn't bounced out of that. If you want to include Beach as a "bust" at least provide the full context to why it happened. Instead you leave out a very, very important piece of context and it comes off as if you're blaming Beach for not becoming a star, as if the sexual abuse he experienced wasn't a factor at all. Shame on you man, absolutely tasteless and careless decision on your part.

Agreed, its difficult to say how well he could have done, but I will say the events of 2010 did have an effect on him enough that more than his skills took a hit...
Also to note he isn't playing in Germany anymore, he retired and is now an Assistant Coach of the Trinity Western University hockey team

Dude, I love your channel, but putting Beach in this list is really, really poor form. At the very least, throw in some context. One can hardly imagine how hard it would be to compete for a roster spot enduring the abuse he did.

No offense but that was very lazy on the research side... every teams picked someone in the first round who never played a single game in the NHL (BTW you can't include Las Vegas or Seattle in a video like this since both franchises are not old enough) so guys like Lawton or Daigle make zero sense. Also who was picked after is 100% not relevant to decide if a first round pick was a bust or not. Finally you can't count a pick of a team before they became that team (so Patrick Stefan and Brian Lawton aren't relevant to Winnipeg or Dallas), at minimum if you want to do that you MUST do it for every team who moved from another city.
Also worth noting that Atlanta wouldn’t have the 1OA if they hadn’t agreed not to select either of Dan or Hank like it’s well know part of the lore
Kyle Beach wasn't a bust, his career was derailed and destroyed by the sexual assault scandal from Blackhawks
For the New York Islanders, I'm surprised that the choice was Dave Chyzowski instead of Rick DiPietro. That pick, and the huge contract that followed, became a giant headache for both Mike Milbury and Isles fans. Nobody could take him seriously after that as an NHL GM.

Patrick white over Olli Juolevi? So many picks on this list are not even considered busts. It’s not unexpected for draft picks 20 and higher to not pan out. Really dumb list

I think the red wings pick could’ve been Zadina. Considering Quinn Hughes was taken right after him, that’s a mistake that hurt the red wings pretty badly
It's a weird list overall.
Devin Setoguchi was not a draft bust. Draft busts usually only play a single season in the NHL if at all. Setoguchi was a top liner that put up 60 points on more than one occasion. If you wanted a Draft Bust for them you could've chosen Teemu Riihijarvi, because despite being picked 12th overall in 1995, nobody has ever heard of this guy. Many people don't even think he even existed.
Thank you. Someone else agrees that drafting Teemu Riihijarvi was a big mistake for the Sharks. Even though that year's draft was considered pretty weak, there were some picks that were pretty good. If the Sharks had drafted the player the Devils picked 6 picks later, Petr Sykora, they would have had a very good playmaking forward for the next few seasons on their team.

Blake Wheeler was a great draft pick.
Just because he was not signed by the team, does NOT make him a bust. He has had a great career and totally worth of the pick.

Kory Kocur was actually a forgettable pick for me, because I was thinking of "Tricky" Dicky Axelsson who drafted in the second round for the Wings, but quit on them after only 17 games in Grand Rapids. He said that if he played one NHL game and the Wings demoted him, he just wasn't go back to Grand Rapids. So he hopped and skipped like a petulant child back to Sweden.
Columbus picked an even worse player the year prior to Gilbert Brulé, with Alexandre Picard who scored 0 goals and 2 points in 67 career NHL games. But I do agree that Brulé was the biggest bust, although the reason wasn't mentioned: GM Doug MacLean overruled his scouts when they all wanted to take Anže Kopitar.
Who captained the team that drafted him to two Stanley cups, number one in games played in franchise history, number 2 in points and he’s STILL playing at a high level. There’s a lot of teams that wished they drafted Kopitar.

Lauri Tukonen had massive injury issues. He never played a full season. After his three years in AHL, he played only 1/3 of games. About 25 games per season over 14 years in Finland. That does not make anyone a bust.

You have to pick a player… the teams not been along for long. They’ve drafted. So I assume he just chose anyone not playing well
You could have chosen another player for Chicago, but no, you HAD to pour salt in the wound by putting Kyle Beach here.

Yea Patrick's a bust, but to be fair to him, he was the supposed #1 overall pick for years in his age group, and wound up having freak medical issues
I love this channel generally but having Kyle Beach on here is pretty ridiculous given all we know now. We should give Kyle Beach a break cause he was buried for something that happened off the ice. I mean if you're apart of something that horrific and have that much PTSD from it then ofc it will affect you and you won't be able to play at the top of your capabilities.

"I'm glad I got drafted first, because no one remembers number two". The #2 overall pick that year was Chris Pronger, who had a Hall of Fame career.
Patrik Stefan was only taken 1st overall because the Sedin Twins refused to be separated. They were the true #1 and #2 best prospects in the 1999 NHL Draft.

There was an obvious pick from the 1989 draft, Adam Bennett. He only played 69 NHL games, 21 with the Hawks, 3 goals, 11 points and he was drafted 6th overall. So yeah, doing a *little* bit of research they could've find numerous better picks.
He was a bust. Him being sexually assaulted probably had something to do with it, but regardless, he was a bust. What good does it do to pretend like that isn’t the case?

@@SILVYSPARK That's not the question being asked. How do you know players like DiPietro or Patrick wouldn't be busts if injuries hadn't derailed their careers? They are still considered busts regardless.
@@WristFreeze97 Because injuries HAPPEN. Plus in the case of DiPietro some of his injuries were because he got into fights in games like his broken jaw. For Beach, there was someone else who intentionally inflicted abuse onto him. That's completely different and anyone who puts 5 seconds of thought into that knows it. Instead of trying to be overly simplistic about issues that happened, look at the context to why stuff played out.
Kyle Beach was systematically ruined all the while being laughed at by an entire fanbase, the players and nation media that had no idea about the sexual abuse. Rocky Wirtz's death and parting ways with 2 hall of famers are the only reason that legacy isn't still in the building 13 years later. All so we could watch 3 cups being hoisted without being distracted. Brad Aldrich went on to sexual assault a teenager after all of this. There are a whole lot of busts in that tragedy, Kyle Beach isn't one of them.

Then how is Radulov in this list, when there was no mention that he returned in the NHL for MTL and later DAL?
My boss grew up with hugh jessiman. Said hes the nicest guy, even went to a few hartford games and partied with dubinsky. Also said Hugh just couldnt keep up to the speed. Noticeably slower than the other players. Really good guy tho.
Your picks for Vegas and Seattle don't make any sense since the Knights flipped prospects and won a cup with the veteran returns, and if you're going to include Expansion Draft then Giordano was a far bigger bust for Seattle than Wright.
Haha Kyle Beach, I mean, maybe true but I would've probably given him a pass considering the circumstances surrounding his time in Chicago.
Chicagoan here. A bigger “bust” for Chicago than Beach, who at least was a productive AHL player and was likely hamstrung by Q (who did not like young players who couldn’t play on line 4), would be the 2000 combo of Vorobiev and Yakubov back to back first-rounders (10th and 11th). Complete flop.
I'm worried that my flyers threw away our early pick on Russian Bedardsky. I knew that he was going to say Nolan Patrick. It's a shame that his career was cut short. We traded one bust for a really overpriced paper weight. I was so stoked for Ellis too. I'm glad we're under new management.
It was crushing to see our selection of Erik Johnson in 2006. Especially considering who we passed on.

I have to wonder if Pat Falloon was a bigger bust than Devon Setoguchi. It's close between them IMO. Good call on White though. The Canucks have had a few major groaners over the years - Jason Herter, Libor Polasek, Dan Woodley, Alek Stojanov, Josh Holden... there are more, I'm sure. It's close between White and Polasek IMO.

Tyler Biggs? AKA Biggsie? Well, he took off where his dad left off. I’ll always remember both teams grinding for the puck & he’s all alone standing in front of the goalie. So the scrum was down a man! I think that may be the last time I saw him. Love it!
Beach gets abused, derails his career, and you call him a bust? Terrible take, man..
A ton of players become busts because of circumstances out of their control. For a lot of players it’s health issues, for example Nolan Patrick and chronic migraines. A bust is a player that does not live up to their draft spot, Kyle Beach fits that description, what good does it do to pretend like Beach wasn’t a bust?
You know you can recognize that what happened to him and how it was covered up was disgraceful without shielding him from anything negative.

@@Campionestasteofchicago Why? Because they dealt or let go everyone who would be RFAs within that next year to avoid paying $$$. And also specifically because Davidson wanted to tank for Bedard.
Moreover, they let Strome-who was also a 3rd overall pick-go in free agency instead of qualifying him, so Davidson is not afraid to waste talent instead of paying them.
A “bust” IMO is someone who doesn’t play in the NHL. A draftee who has an NHL career is so rare, even first-rounders who max out as bottom six players is a rarity. Should never, ever assume a #3 overall pick is going to be a star-it rarely happens that way. (Which is also why tanking for draft position in a year like this is frankly idiotic).

Stojanov himself might've been a bad pick, but he got traded for MARKUS NASLUND. Canucks win in the end.
Dan woodley . Patrick white was turn into Erhof who was a great roll player in some very good teams .woodley played 5 games scoring 2 goals but brain Leetch went to spots later

Fyi the ihl wasnt a demotion from ahl, it was an alternate league at same level. Some teams farm teams were ihl teams some were ahl. I velive the leagues merged which is why there were two admirals teams

Joe Murphy was never a bust. This is why this list is weird because some of the players arent busts. Just run of the mill 1st round prospects who didnt pan out or didnt warrant their draft position.
A bust is someone who like Nail Yakupov was taken high with loads of hype but didn't live up to expectations at all. Zadina would've been a better choice since no one actually thought Kocur would be anything special.
I totally understand why you put Shane Wright on this list because the Kraken are so new. But I truly don’t think he’s a bust. Yes his career has had a rocky start and he doesn’t have a lot of points. But it’s hard to put up points and prove yourself when you’re a healthy scratch for most of your games and only playing 13 out of 60 minutes on the games you do play. I think if the Kraken give him more of a chance, he’ll put up some numbers!
Dave Chizowoski , ScittScissions either would have worked for the Islanders both were big bust.
Scissions never scored except for a couple of points in the IHL and AHL he was a bigger bust for sure
The senators wouldn't have been better off if they drafted Pronger firat overall in 1993. Pronger played poorly due to the pressure of being a top player while with the Hartford Whalers during his first few years, it wasn't until he went to St.louis and after Keenan told him to focus on his conditionings and making less mistakes was when Pronger became a star in the league. If the senators did drafted Pronger first overall, he would have been a draft bust and debating, even worse than Daigle seeing that the Senators were a new team. And also, how could you say "Shane Wright just playing on a recently added nhl team so that's why he doesn't look that hot." while not saying that about Daigle, when he went through the same thing as Wright? And finally, how does Seattle have a draft bust but not the Vegas Golden Knights? You could have picked Brendan Brisson or Zach Dean as their worst draft bust seeing haven't played in the nhl yet. To finish off, why can't you say that Krebs,Glass, Suzuki or Brannstrom were their worst draft pick because they traded those players away? You said that Blake Wheeler was the worst pick for the Coyotes because they didn't resign him to a new contract so he left to sign the Bruins so why can't you say trading them away were their biggest draft bust as it was a wasted pick just like the Coyotes with Wheeler?
Also, why is Kyle Beach on this list? That's just wrong on so many levels

Inconsistent video. You reached into Atlanta Thrashers history for the Jets 2.0 so you should have done the same for the Arizona Coyotes. Also, Radulov, being the Preds biggest bust, was also a stretch

Agreed. I absolutely hate players that scoff their draft team. Like, who do you think you are?? It's just so fucking arrogant and douchey. As if the History of the NHL isn't completely littered with guys who didn't or couldn't live up to draft expectations because of any multitude of reasons. Radulov is kind of a weird choice for Nashville. We're talking about a good player selected #15 and probably the best player available at that time, he plays in the KHL but he got a few good years with the preds. Brian Finley at #6 overall is a better choice for worst bust when other goalies like Ryan Miller and Craig Anderson are available. Picking Kyle Beach for Chicago is kinda poor, since we know the story and the context. After that, I was scared you picked Cherepanov (NYR) or Bourdon (Van).

It is what it is man. Extenuating circumstances regardless. Tons of players may well have had gawd knows what going on in their lives. It was not known and all anyone had was the hockey reality to talk about. It seems some people would rather Beach's name was never mentioned ever again?
You can talk about Beach, but you *need* the context along with it. This video tries to present the idea that it's Beach himself who's at fault for having problems in junior.
I don't see it that way, and wonder if Beach would want that. He was a hockey player. Does he really want that brought up every time his name gets mentioned? Isn't that a lot of the reason it takes victims so long to bring it out to anyone, let alone the proper authorities? They know that is who they will become to a lot of people. And it is why what happened was so bad. I think the way his inclusion was handled was a little awkward, as I am sure the maker was really trying to be delicate. But somebody was going to not like it one way or the other. The other option was to leave him off the list. Like he didn't exist.

Jesse Niinimaki was known to be very lazy, but skilled, so I think it's the right choice over Yakupov.
Yakupov did fail because he did not have enough hockey-IQ, Jesse had but was as said lazy. So he failed himself.. we never even know if he would've been good enough.
