This is very helpful! I was struggling with Notion and non of the tutorials helped, but this is the one, you did a great job explaining everything . Thank you so so much
Wow!!! I wanted to create in Notion something similar to your tracker for tracking my Practice Exam statistics for preparing for NCLEX-RN Exam , but I didn't know how to do it. I want to say you THANK YOU VERY MUCH Milo!!!! Saludos desde España.
Tremendous share, thank you very much, Milo! One question, do think there is a way to design things such that instead of clicking into the templates one by one, there could be a way to just add the grades straight down a column e.g. 98 return key, 82 return key, 100 return etc. and still have it work for this setup and the relations involved?
Yeah there is a way but I didn't show it since I thought it may be a bit complex for new teachers but you can create a "floating" custom button that creates a page in the "Grades" database and have it apply to every student in the student database. Then it would create a grade entry for every student. Then you could add grades straight down a column like you suggest.
@@notion4teachers Interesting, I think I will have to wait until that video comes out as I am not sure how to make it apply to every student when programming the button. I set up the button to add a page but the apply to all students in the Students database part, not clear.
@@toddlichtenwalter2041 You may just have to play around with the button settings and figure it out :) bit of tinkering I'm sure you could find the right settings.
Yes this is something I'm planning on figuring out in the future. Just need to find a way to do it cleanly without the function being too overwhelming for most people
This is really helpful! Thank you for making it. is there a way to do this so that the grades are weighted and lowest scores in categories are dropped? I have been trying to create something like that and I am just not getting it to work
Actually a few people have asked me this! A weighted grading system. It's on my list of to-dos and definitely something I need to figure out. There's a few ways I think it could be done but I want to find a way that's intuitive for the average user to use
Hi. Really appreciate the instruction and video. Is there anyway to have the grade tracker only visible to a certain student for their grade? I have tried to only give access to each student for their personal page in the students database but the grades from the grades database will not show up since they do not have access to that database. Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hey Matthew. One way would be to go into every grade and then invite the student using their email to view that page. However, I would not recommend that lol since it would take forever and you would have to not only do that for every student, but also every time you add a new grade. One thing you could do is: 1. Set the permissions on the grades database to view only, but don't share the database page with students. 2. Individually invite students to view their student page. Students will then only be able to see their page and the grades that are tagged to them. Hope this helps!
@@notion4teachers Hi Milo. Really appreciate the response. I tried the latter but the only issue is that despite not sharing the database page with students, there is a way in which they can back track through the link (in the top left hand corner of the page) whereby they can get back to the database page from each of their individual grades. I highly doubt many students would figure this out, but if they did, they would be able to view everyone else's grade. There might just not be an effective way to do this in the way that I am thinking which is okay. I appreciate the guidance and video nonetheless!
@@matthewwilfong1560 Ah yes I see what you mean. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out a good way to share pages with students and relevant information from linked databases while also trying to keep everything relatively private. It's a challenge for sure. There may be a way where you can have an AI block summarize property information and then allow the student to see only the AI block but I still need to mess around with this more.

Thanks for sharing this. Any plans on doing a similar video showing how to weight scores by assignment or grade category?

@@notion4teachers I found a way but it's messy, requiring two properties per category in an Assignments DB with corresponding rollups in a Student DB.
