For me, I needed to know that it was parodying John K for this episode to "click" for me, but since then I've found it pretty solid and enjoyable overall. I appreciate the implied insights into what it was like to work for John K and his firing etc.
One of the most meta episodes of the show Feels like a bunch of nonsensical jokes stapled together but once you do a bit of a research of the show's development, everything makes sense. Honestly a pretty crazy experience for the show
From what I remember, Craig Bartlett directed this one and a few others from the show at this point. Crazy how he was as able to work on this show for a little bit before going full in on his own show Hey Arnold. There’s other directors and artists from this show that went on to even bigger projects: Mike Kim and Family Guy, Ron Hughart on American Dad, Peter Avanzino on Futurama, Chris Reccardi and Lynne Naylor on Powerpuff Girls, Scott Wills on Samurai Jack and other Genndy Tartakovsky projects, etc.
Hey Arnold is one of a best nicktoons for me, but I know why not everyone will start watching, for example regular cartoon with regular boy and city with regular problems vs. Sponge’s life with underwater stuff, life of the babies, teenage-robot who saving the world, adventures of boy genius, boy with fairies that he can wish mostly everything, like that
This was maybe the weirdest episode of the show. John K really does love meat, though. He would write about it in the magazine "Wild Cartoon Kingdom" that I used to read back in the early 90s. I wouldn't be shocked if he had a big shrine devoted to meat...
Really funny one with some great jokes and moments based off of the Games staff’s experiences working with John at Spumco. The whole ep is a pretty clear allusion to the events that led to K getting fired from the show. The last scene is especially poignant considering the tragic aftermath of the situation. 8.5 or 9 out of 10.
Along with the Last Temptation, this is one of the two most religious-based episodes of Ren and Stimpy. This episode was solid. I liked the coloring and the jokes that were a jab at John K. Overall 7/10. Not much of a plot, though.
From what I've observed from Ren & Stimpy fans on the internet, Reverend Jack is a fan favorite in the Games Animation era of the show, but I personally just find it okay. It's definitely not the worst of what the show has released, but I just didn't find it as funny as previous episodes. While the allegorical nature of this episode is interesting and I'm sure this was cathartic for the staff to make, it ultimately has this stigma of "if you know, you know" that alienates me as viewer because unless I get the context, I don't get the joke. It's the same issue I have with Fire Dogs 2 from Adult Party Cartoon: the antics presented comes across as slightly amusing, but I don't appreciate it as much unless I understand the historical context behind the premise.
Yeah I've never especially been a fan of that type of satire unless there's something to carry you through the experience. Then it can be the chef's kiss. Good opinion.
Thank you, R&S Recap, but frankly, I was glad I got to wait for this video. I was glad that I had gotten the courage to revisit the Kindle you’ve name-dropped. Thank you. Keep up!
I may actually dislike Ren and Stimpy (there are parts that vibe with me a bit and I very much enjoy analyzing it) but... Very sad this is coming to an end, ngl. I hope you do more things in the future. I've slacked up overtime but at one point I was checking for your upload literally every Thursday for a little over an entire year. Thx for doing what you love and not catering to the most economical audience.
I'm assuming that Terminal Stimpy was blocked, what were your thoughts on the episode? My favorite scene was when Stimpy yells "TOAST?! HERE'S YOUR TOAST!"
Three episodes left!.

Mike Kim on Family Guy? Jesus Christ, talk about a step downward.

i think Craig also worked on another episode and did some voice work.

Do you think that's why this episode exists? XD
He was gone years before this though
From what we know, he only ate underage meat.

This was great. Jack is a pretty fun side character. I love all the meat visuals
