Two Fun Facts; 1: This is the only episode that with a plot intended for APC (so not just a left over plot from the original show). 2: The duck is a parody of Tiny Toon adventures Plucky Duck, which John.K hated.
I don't know why but apc really brings out the best in you. you're dry reactions to this show are so funny to me. My favorites are "you see, the joke here is SEX." from this video and "at least it was over quick, for us I don't know about them." from onward and upward.
It feels like they had like 50 jokes, and they didn't want to scrap any of them, so they just crammed them all into this one episode. If this episode were trimmed to like 22 minutes or less, it would've been a contender for the best APC episode
I went out of my way to make fan-edits of each episode of APC for fun to test this theory since I had the same thought. I was able to trim "Altruists" down to 17 minutes and left in the jokes that felt mostly relevant to the story, making it a much more enjoyable watching experience. I still think "Ren Seeks Help" and "Fire Dogs 2" are still the best two episodes, but "Altruists" could've easily been third best if it was more concise with its structure.
Fun fact: Altruists is the only APC episode that wasn’t originally pitched for the original show on Nickelodeon. And it shows. John K barely knew how to write anything.
Listen to every behind the scenes, interview, and audio commentary from around that time; all anyone would ever tell him was that he was the biggest genius since Walt Disney and it clearly went to his head
Everyone complains about pacing in these toons and I don't really understand. I'm watching the animation. Every pose, every drawing, is funny. It's not "going so slow" it's pacing itself purposefully like a fully animated cartoon. And these drawings are so funny and interesting I'm glad they get a chance to move and breathe. R&S was never a dialogue heavy show, anyway. I don't get it. The pacing is fine with me.
Have you ever seen a fully animated cartoon anywhere near as long as this? Kricfalusi's favorite cartoons are those by Bob Clampett. He praised those cartoons for how many different drawings there are, especially in scenes by Rod Scribner. One of his favorites is The Great Piggy Bank Robbery from 1946. But the pacing in Clampett's cartoons is often fast! None of them have a running time even a _fourth_ as long as Altruists!
@@yosefdemby8792exactly! One of the issues I always had with John is that a lot of his later work was so unbearably slow paced and boring. Like he watched too many Hanna-Barbera cartoons and got the wrong takeaways from them in terms of pacing and story.
@@walpoleandworcester Even Hanna Barbera never made cartoons as long as Altruists. The Flintstones was meant to be an animated sitcom, but there's no episode more than half an hour long.
It never fails to confuse and astound me that anyone gave this episode the okay to have a 40 minute running time when it has a plot that can barely sustain an 11 minute episode. While some jokes range from okay to pretty good, others are just unnecessary or are butchered by the incredibly slow pacing that is the epitome of this entire show.
The fundamental problem with R&S doing a Three Stooges tribute, well for one they're not the Three Stooges. And this barely qualifies. The Stooges were snappy and quickly built and paid off their jokes. That belabored exercise with the duck isn't even edgy, just tedious. There's so much visual noise in Stimpy's disguise (tassels on his cheeks) the actions we're supposed to focus on don't have any kick. Some of robbing the house was funny, though.

I'm pretty sure Naked Beach Frenzy wasn't written during the show's original run.
The widow is so adorable and i feel sorry for her
2:20 Poor little guy, 😢😢😢 born headless from the neck up. Unfortunate.
That episode being 40 minutes long is pure insanity, it's something that could easily be done in 11 minutes

Thank you Stimpson I appreciate it a lot, unlike APC
Hei stimpy lets dance with happy happy joy joy

5:50 why did this actually make me laugh 💀
1:04 Works well for The Three Stooges-type craziest gags in this 40 minute funnily drawn mess.
Say, no blackface on Ren, just him in a pitch black shadow!
A black shadow
Your OC standing with the same position 90% of the video says it all for your reaction to the episode 😂

Fact that this is the only episode that wasn't a scrapped story plot for Nickelodeon.
At this point i get the feeling John K. Thought everything he did was comedy gold.

It's the George Lucus effect.
Just to let you know, that "blackjack" that Ren was holding is actually a bag of lead.
By time we done gta 6 out
13:10 Note how it's signed Jose Poo, a reference to Spumco artist Jose Pou.
ngl stimpy got me rock hard in this episode
If you can make it through this one, you can make it through anything…
Peak is back
10:17 It can be called a lump, or a bump.

John.K's Pacing is similar to Chuck Jones later work.
@@Randomlad.0737 Only worse

When is the season 5 tier list livestream
It was for the best because because you were going to have to censor the shower sense and that would take days to do 0:35
4:47 It's true.
Adult Patty cartoon sounds way better! Lol.

15:15 LMFAO
In my opinion this is the most boring episode of adult party cartoon I mean there are some funny jokes but this episode drags unlike any other
It's over thirty-nine minutes! The heck with that!
This is like the Cans without labels, but worse because it’s longer.
12:12 Nice joke.
He spelled party wrong
Most of this is just Ren beating up stimpy with no marsy and it's not funny
It got kinda funny to me near the end with how it was after legit every single thing Stimpy did
I mean the original show is basically that NGL.
I hate alturist
Yeah me too but I think the widow is so cute
