I was in attendance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the first 5 Mr. Olympia contests. In 1966 I thought Harold Poole should have beaten Larry Scott. It was a different story in 1965, it was all Larry Scott. He received the greatest ovation I ever heard at any show. Fond memories. I agree with your #1 pick, in 1972 where Sergio was robbed of the title. Thanks, Marx, you have a great podcast.
@@dj_m19 Dorian shouldn’tve even been in the top 2💀he had a torn bicep,a bloated midsection,no glute striations, a mid posing routine especially compared to shawns,a flat chest from the side and lost 4 out of 7 mandatory poses against Shawn AND Kevin so dorian taking home the sandow that year was merely a gift💀
@@Chocolatesauce._yes he should’ve won but it was not a robbery… Shawn wins the front double, back double, abs and thighs Dorian wins the front lat spread, back lat spread, side triceps The side chest is close but I will go with dorian. he looks fuller and more conditioned And the most muscular was not a mandatory back then so its 3-4 for dorian
Sergio Oliva is by far the best of this very good selection. Ok! The photos do not show everything, however as soon as you show the photos on stage for Sergio, Kevin, Flex, Jay and Kai, we can reasonably say that it is a "constant parameter", in other words of the same criterion of appreciation. And so, unless you need a good optician, Sergio at this 1972 Olympia in Essen is 50 years ahead of his time. No one even today can show this Victory pose without appearing small. Conclusion, Sergio is far from the best of this selection. Be careful, this is the best Sergio of his career, he never maintained this level afterwards.

Always forget how bad Ramy's conditioning was back in the day. Unless you just chose a really unflattering picture it looks like he was weeks out from the Olympia. No separation or striations at all anywhere. Especially in the legs.
@@kasperisaukkonen VERY small compared with todays BUBBLE GUTS... He just let it relax a few times in the finale of the contest... He still had amazing abs!
Yates was a monster and an artist. He took a blocky, unaesthetic physique and made the most of it, truly one of the greatest accomplishments in bodybuilding history. That said, I never liked his build. I'll take '92 Levrone, '93 Flex and '97 El Sonbaty based on the reason many of us got into the sport to begin with: mass, yes, but not at the cost of aesthetics, structure and symmetry.
The greatest Runner Up in Olympia, who was not even a runner up is Mike Mentzer in 1980 who got 5th. He got robbed not by 1, not by 2 but by 4 whole placings. Generally i agree with your picks, but i would add 1975 Serge Nubret. INSANE physique by 1975 standards. Like a premature Flex Wheeler.
It’s a little known fact that Mentzer’s complete Olympia prep was exactly; 1 push-up, 1 squat, 1 pull-up, 1 crunch, 1 curl, 1 dip, 1 lateral raise, 1 shoulder press. He ate 1 gram of carb, 1 gram of fat, and 2…count them…1-2 grams of protein.
Not even 2nd, but Platz in 81.
The real winner.
Also Mike Mentzer
Pretty much anybody else in the top 5 in 81 other than Franco shoulda won
Not one of the greats of his era. He was better than washed Franco Columbo. Guys on this list are pushing perfection regardless of who “beat” them
I had platz 2nd in 81 behind Padilla who got screwed even worse with 5th
Kai Green just WOW!!!
Glad you made this video. Top 2 is marvelous!!!

Kai Green's Arms are crazy. That was such a great physic. Beautiful and massive with perfect balance.
Kai’s bicep peaks in the back double bi are absolutely insane
Now we just need "Greatest 5th places that were really 1st or 2nd", Gunther, Mentzer, Padilla and Platz.
Early 90’s Kevin his upper and lower body matched. Look at his hands clasped mm in 92. Head to toe proportioned
Kevin even comes #2 in this video 😢
Bravo
Was actually hoping for this video earlier this week and then out of nowhere you put it on the poll. It’s awesome.
Flex should of stayed leaner instead of chasing the size because 93 flex especially the a c 93 was just unbelievable
94 Shawn Ray was awesome.
He should’ve won

6:42 - Kai Greene's back!! One of the best backs of all time!!
Jay Cutler 2001 is my favorite physique of all time
We love you Maxwell

Ronnie
Dorian
Flex
Phil
Kai

Phil Heath 2010? Victor Martinez 2007? Kai Greene had quite a few nice showings

I would have said Mike Mentzer's 2nd place finish to Frank Zane in 1979, Mike looked better than 1980 in my opinion...
Big belly

Arnold in 1972 was a little too heavy but still was more cut and separated than The Myth!!!
Man, I don't know... Back then things were different... I just feel Sergio was better. From pictures only at least, maybe diff story live...
comparison of these ?
Do same year NABBA Mr. Universe vs. Mr. Olympia.
Arnold should be on the list. 1969, I think.
I was hoping that you didn't make this video in the past but now unfortunate lol... but thank you for answering me... it's a first lol....
Shawn Ray, Victor Martinez
I think this would be better making a list of those who came in 2nd the most but never won, like Rich Gaspari. Maybe next time.
Kai Greene 2012 vs Derek Lunsford
You forgot Mike Mentzer in 1979, he was 2nd to Frank Zane.
Could have easily populated the list with people who Dorian beat:9
atta boy!
Martinez 07 vs Ramy 2014
Kai Greene was bigger and the same condition in 2014
you definetely forgot 2010 phil heath. He himself says this was one of his best shapes
Comaaand!
Hmmm, Kai Green over Victor Martinez...... egh..... I don't know about that
Love your picks otherwise
I've always thought Jay was lucky to get even one win much less 4. 09 was his craziest look in my humble opinion.
You missed dani madilla
