I discovered that trick about a month ago. It totally makes race mode more enjoyable. Another mode you can try is Drift mode with the stiff suspension setting. It makes the rear more eager to step out and more lively.
thats how i drive all the time, in Sport mode the diff is in normal mode, track activates the sport setting on your differential. you cant feel the focus magic without it. so track +soft dampening +ESP on and Bang on.
I've actually found Sport with ESC fully off to be my preferred mode. Track mode seems less eager to let the tail come around, and the steering becomes too artificially overweighted. Surprised at the number of people acting like this is a revelation.. don't any of you play with your car's settings!?
Nice! the only thing to remember is that since the car is in Track Mode, you will probably receive the message to change the oil in the rear sooner than later :)
Great video Justin, my favourite one yet. I normally drive in Sport mode on the street, so I'm looking forward to giving this a try today! Easter egg mode!
I gave that mode a try. The steering is definitely stiffer but the adjustment to turn on traction control on and track mode engaged I find this setting ideal for highway driving.
If you carefully check the manual, it says that AWD system oil needs to be changed after 800km driving on track/in track mode. So, I am wondering, if the car is driven in this mode everyday (what I would definitely wish to do), what is the wear on the differential being all the time in sport mode and respectively how often the oil has to be changed...In this mode, the car reminds me a lot of my EVO, and we all know the EVOs had quite some issues with their rear diffs and required frequent oil changes...
now you scared me ! if there's a read diff pump failing after 50k like the evos I'm going to be really angry >< the evo problem was mostly that they placed the pump in a stupid position and it was showered by the rear wheel I hope Ford didn't make the same mistake
I always drive in track mode, also with normal suspension, but also with ESP off. This actually does not mean ESP off, but only reduced "support". Only if you press the "Off"-Button for more than 5 seconds, ESP is really switched off and you can see an additional icon.
I think in Mexico what Ford did was to have track mode set up with ESP on and normal suspension by default, so if you press the LHS button as suggested you enable the stiff suspension (the little damper with the S beside it appears) which is what we don't like so much for public roads. I guess Ford changes the default driving settings depending on the country where they sell these cars? cheers!
I wish there was a way to store the settings; it’s the same problem I had with my STI. But anyway, my personal default is track mode with the normal suspension. I leave the stability control in track mode as there is still one more layer of protection before that is completely defeated anyway.
Hi, Have heard others use this set up and works well. Watch your post on turning circle and was same with Mk2 Focus RS like turning a super tanker around in small river.
I found this out few months ago while playing with settings waiting for my misses had to go for a spin and yes I agree the car feels more attached is guess like it's and extra arm lol all good fun you can even stiffen up drift mode but don't do it lol
Hey Justin! I suggested this to you in vlog #7 and you poo pooed it, glad to see you have changed your mind though :D love your videos and looking forward to more :)
Hey Justin, this is another Fezza (based on my surname) from Australia, with exactly the same car as you. Have you tried drift mode with traction control on, for normal street driving? You can really feel the rear wheel bias (front lifting, back squatting etc) and the smarts are still there to save you if it gets scary. I must admit to driving in the 5th mode more often than not, but the 6th mode is my 2nd favourite.CheersBob
6800 and it does not change with drive modes. There are certain situations where the car will reduce it down to 6500 like if you have the throttle pinned, bouncing off the rev limiter... but i haven't tested this
like Carlton says, it doesn't change. However, I find that I change at around 6000 I think as the torque reduces after that so no point in pushing it more for no real gain.
Fezza, never mind the "Fifth Element", how are your oil levels, just check today myself and it looks like I will need a top up after 3,500Km.PS :"Sport Plus" sound like something I need to try next Sunday from Belgooly to Carrigaline
i already knew about that 5th mode. Its the mode i recommend to use when you are performance driving...(of course with esc off). Track mode puts AWD system in Sport. Sport mode ...does not put the AWD system in Sport. Again though you had another video where the ESC has a fully disable function for a better drift? I am still confused about that as Ford has not advertised it. I just understand that ESC is either in Normal or Sport.
tried it and liked it. not had the car long enough yet to tell just how much difference there is. but the exhauset seemed louder in race- could that be true or am i imagining it?
I have try this (6th) today morning on my RS with snow Tyre. I'm living in Luxembourg. We have this week some freeze on the road (but no snow). The traction of this car is so great that it's very difficult to find the limit. I'm waiting the snow ... I also try to remove the cable to the subwoofer to see if it change the noise of the car. I was very surprised , the noise was still great and it doesn't seem to change something. After this test, I'm not sure that Ford use the subwoofer to give more noise. Last week I sold my RS mk2 to a german dealer. I want to say that the 5 cylinders noise was probably better but it's not so sure. The greatest advantage for me of the 5 cylinders is that at high rpm the engine has more rage and can reach 7200 rpm. For sure, the MK2 and MK3 are two great car !
they are both great cars, for sure. In terms of the sub woofer, I believe the sound is piped into the cabin through the normal speaers...but don't quote me on that!
Fezza Not an owner, but I've been doing EXTENSIVE research and I will be laying down a down payment on the 2017 ST2 model this week. With that being said... The engine sound is fed into the cabin from the engine bay. A valve opens once you've dug into the pedal and a pipe linked to the induction manifold projects the sound directly into the cabin. Nice feature I must say. Unlike the newer BMW m5 series, the sound is digitally assembled and played through the stereo system. Lol the stereo is for MUSIC... but I get it. Loud exhaust systems are regulated in some European areas. Nice video btw, I can tell you enjoy the car. Everyone and everywhere I look has brought forth awesome reviews and praise. I'm excited to join the crowd lol
Thank you for all your videos on the rs! I'm borderline buying one but I have one concern. Do the seats break in at all after driving it? I'm 6'6" and have to squeeze to get into the seats.
I am looking to do some mods in the next couple of months. It will initially be an engine mod for more power and a louder exhaust. I'll do an update video on this shortly
obviously u should be able to manually override traction and suspension settings in every mode so u will create 6th 7th and 8th secret mode..now u gonna love your car even more!;))
Greetings from Germany! ✌️😁 !!!NICE NICE NICE!!! I always driven in Sport Mode, but this Mode... I think... it's so more Powerful! Is it so, or am I just imagining it?
It's a call back to one of his previous videos where he talks about the awful turn radius, and how he has to use drift mode to get around narrow roundabouts without having to make a multi point turn.
that's odd. You do have to be really on it to feel it. Read some of the other comments here. Some people have explained that in track mode the car goes into a sport setting for the AWD system, whilst in Sport mode it's the same AWD setting as normal mode.
Is not an official 'mode'. Fezza selects Track and then reduces the dampening and put ESC back on - both manually. This gives you the Track brake, steering, throttle etc settings without the unbearable ride. Also, as he mentions, means that if you overcook it in a corner the EDC nanny will save your sorry arse 😊
mate what you done still has driving aids ie ESC on. it's basically sport mode with AWD steering in sport mode. Sport mode's AWD steering is actually normal mode. try out Drift mode and hold ESC button 5 seconds for ESC to switch off, the "i" icon to pop up on center dash. this is a really fun drift mode i'm trying currently, car feels alot more loose and nimble :)

4:53 "The less aids the better"
Ain't that the truth.
thats how i drive all the time, in Sport mode the diff is in normal mode, track activates the sport setting on your differential. you cant feel the focus magic without it. so track +soft dampening +ESP on and Bang on.
sport plus! too cool. thanks Fezza.
cheers Charlie!
Ill have to try this tomorrow... Too foggy presently here to try it tonight.
I've actually found Sport with ESC fully off to be my preferred mode. Track mode seems less eager to let the tail come around, and the steering becomes too artificially overweighted.
Surprised at the number of people acting like this is a revelation.. don't any of you play with your car's settings!?
I have to try this when I'm in the caynon roads. I'm only 3 days on my new '17 RS and enjoying it!
Finally a video that actually proves what the title says
Nice! the only thing to remember is that since the car is in Track Mode, you will probably receive the message to change the oil in the rear sooner than later :)
ah, good point Paolo!
Great vid. Yes, already use race, turn off damper setting but don't enable traction. Will do now and yes, it does make a difference.
RS is so awesome

Pick mine up end of march currently have 2015 civic type r
Witch I love but useless in the wet !! Will try this mode
The fifth driving mode review sounds like the reviews for the Fiesta ST. Just how much fun these cars are.
I always drive in track mode, also with normal suspension, but also with ESP off. This actually does not mean ESP off, but only reduced "support". Only if you press the "Off"-Button for more than 5 seconds, ESP is really switched off and you can see an additional icon.

Kudos to you, Fezza, for raising AIDS awareness! It's a true statement! We need a project (RED) version of the RS!
Great video, never tried track. Seem to be addicted to sport mode at the moment. I will try this out one day and see if I notice a difference.
Mines arrived! Pick up next week, might have to video it!
excellent James! You must be so excited. Please share some videos of it :)
I think in Mexico what Ford did was to have track mode set up with ESP on and normal suspension by default, so if you press the LHS button as suggested you enable the stiff suspension (the little damper with the S beside it appears) which is what we don't like so much for public roads. that's interesting! Are all RS's in Mexico like this?
try drift mode with the suspension on stiffer setting....
hi Justine keep up the vids you seem to know a lot more than the dealers will ever tell you about the capabilities of this awesome car
thanks John, will do!
I'll give it a go this weekend
I wish there was a way to store the settings; it’s the same problem I had with my STI. But anyway, my personal default is track mode with the normal suspension. I leave the stability control in track mode as there is still one more layer of protection before that is completely defeated anyway.
Great video Justin, can't wait to try that in mine!
thanks mate! Let me know what you think when you do.

Hey Justin! I suggested this to you in vlog #7 and you poo pooed it, glad to see you have changed your mind though :D love your videos and looking forward to more :)
hi mate! Yes, I remember but only recently starting using it daily. Thanks :)

I’ve been trying this out on my 2017 rs and it is more lively for sure .
don't forget you can put esc in sport mode by holding the brake and tapping the TCS button twice
nice work mate. hey what is the rev limit and does this change with modes?
6800 and it does not change with drive modes. There are certain situations where the car will reduce it down to 6500 like if you have the throttle pinned, bouncing off the rev limiter... but i haven't tested this
like Carlton says, it doesn't change. However, I find that I change at around 6000 I think as the torque reduces after that so no point in pushing it more for no real gain.
thanks guys
Hey Fezza, have you considered any mods like air cooler, upgraded FMIC or even just a canned tune (Cobb, SCT etc)?
Yes, looking at exhaust upgrade and also a slight tune, like the Adams one. Will do a vid on this soon!
Fezza, never mind the "Fifth Element", how are your oil levels, just check today myself and it looks like I will need a top up after 3,500Km.PS :"Sport Plus" sound like something I need to try next Sunday from Belgooly to Carrigaline
actually, I haven't checked mine for about a month! The car is going in for a service this week anyway but will check before it goes.
Excellent !
Thanks - will try on my car in a few days time!
try pressing the esc stability control button for 4/5 seconds and then you will see the real 5 driving mode. will disable all help systems
Awesome!! Thanks for this tip. I'm gonna give it a try when I get home from work today. LOL
have tried it, wasn't sure if it was just placebo effect.
i already knew about that 5th mode.
Another excellent video Justin. Now get a stage one remap on it and you will be even more impressed! :-)
thanks! Will be deciding on updates shortly...
I'll be giving this a try!
Somehow I've never seen this vlog... going to try it this weekend.
tried it and liked it. not had the car long enough yet to tell just how much difference there is. but the exhauset seemed louder in race- could that be true or am i imagining it?
what is the difference between sport and track on the feel off the engine and the throttle response ? do you get more power in track mode ?
Awesome cars I just got hold of one with stage 2 remap 440 horses
My car will be here in April.. I'll be sure to try it!! Thanks!!
I cant believe how quiet your roads are??
yes, we are blessed with quiet roads :)
Traction control goes off in race mode so u don't chew your gears up when your tires start spinning. Should prolly keep it off
I thought the only difference between Sport and Track is Track additionally has TC OFF and Sport Shocks ON. The steering is still the same?
Steering is heavier in track mode and the ESC is wound back a little compared with Sport mode
Nice one. I'll try it on Monday when I get my keys.
brilliant info video is the throttle more sensitive in track mode? saw a mk3 rs today and I'm still dribbling lol:-) cheers steve
The throttle mapping gets more aggressive compared to Normal mode, when you're in Sport, Track, & Drift modes.
thanks Steve. The throttle mapping in track mode is different to normal mode but the same as Sport mode.
Does it (track mode, without stiff suspension) stay that way when you turn off car and turn it back on?
unfortunately not. It always resets back to normal mode when you turn the engine off.
Going to try this tomorrow on my 2018
I really have to try this. Does the torque vectoring still circle the car trough the corners?
Yeah....nice one. Imma try that just after I've had my tea... (Nitrous blue, 16 plate.)
Don't forget the "6th" driving mode ;) Which is with it in drift mode with ESP completely off, are you going to try that on track sometime?
hope to soon when I go to the track either in Jan or Feb!
I have try this (6th) today morning on my RS with snow Tyre. I'm living in Luxembourg. We have this week some freeze on the road (but no snow). The traction of this car is so great that it's very difficult to find the limit. I'm waiting the snow ... I also try to remove the cable to the subwoofer to see if it change the noise of the car. welcome to the group Tyler! When are you getting your car?
Going to give this a try
I wonder how many tenths of a second will it shave off on it's Nurinburgring time?
Thank you for all your videos on the rs! I'm borderline buying one but I have one concern. Do the seats break in at all after driving it? I'm 6'6" and have to squeeze to get into the seats.
I have the shell seats and they haven't changed at all. Have you tried the standard seats, I believe they are lower?
So when in track mode, the traction control turns off ,so I will have to enable this .good video.
thanks Vale ;)
This is how I always drive my focus rs, except I hold down the ESC button for 5 seconds to disable it entirely.
do you have to change the settings every time you get in the car or will it remember?
@@coldvaper the car defaults to normal mode every time you start it, so I'm thinking all the settings default when you switch modes.
awesome!
I'll try that for sure !
excellent! Let me know what you think of it.
Always driving in the fifth drive mode now !
I just think there's something wrong with my car when i forgot to remove the suspension lol
Great vid. Wish I had an RS. Will have to make do with the ST for now :)
If ur going to upgrade parts on ur RS wat modification would u get?
I am looking to do some mods in the next couple of months. It will initially be an engine mod for more power and a louder exhaust. I'll do an update video on this shortly
Been seen your video from before and they been helping me 😬🤠🤪
Thanks!
very astute! love the video
thanks mate!
obviously u should be able to manually override traction and suspension settings in every mode so u will create 6th 7th and 8th secret mode..now u gonna love your car even more!;))
lo! You're right!
Greetings from Germany! ✌️😁
!!!NICE NICE NICE!!!
I always driven in Sport Mode, but this Mode... I think... it's so more Powerful!
Is it so, or am I just imagining it?
I noticed that when in track mode the suspensions modes not actually turn off
I will try this in the Nordschleife. Think, that it will work very well!
Chris Präger the nordeschleife is a lot smoother than British roads
Nice
try pressing the esc stability control button for 4/5 seconds and then you will see the real 5 driving mode
Gotta try this!!
why would you even use traction control on an awd focus ?
Thank you 👍
Cool Sport +
how big is the fuel tank on the RS ?
I believe it's 51 litres
I always drive my a45 like this, just set individual e go !
If this keeps the rear in place, I like it. This car just throws it's rear out to much. I want full awd in a good setting.
no, not really, it's still a playful car and the rear does kick out.
Watching this like I have an rs 😅, I have a 2013 fiesta st still brilliant
What seats are these?
This made a difference for me for years until I swtiched to m400r and now it's just as fast in all the modes LOL! 😂 😅
😁
ESC Sport isn't ESC off! And the little Drifts in ESC Sport are funny
Hat das schon jemand ausprobiert bzw. kann das jemand bestätigen das es wirklich so ein Unterschied ist?
But how about 6th mode. Put it in sport and press the button for regular suspension! 6th mode!
I know what my next car is;-)
you won't be disappointed :)
Drift mode - For looking like a complete twat going around a roundabout.
Frickin awesome! I subscribed just because of that.
It's a call back to one of his previous videos where he talks about the awful turn radius, and how he has to use drift mode to get around narrow roundabouts without having to make a multi point turn.
now i have to get back to the car and try this :-)
cool, let me know what you think!
sorry mate , but this didn't do much for me , honestly i didn't feel any real difference....
that's odd. You do have to be really on it to feel it. Read some of the other comments here. Some people have explained that in track mode the car goes into a sport setting for the AWD system, whilst in Sport mode it's the same AWD setting as normal mode.
I wish I could afford that car. I drive a MK6 VW GTI for a daily. I want that RS as a weekend/ tuner car
you've certainly got a nice daily car there!
Where is the fifth Mode????
Is not an official 'mode'. Fezza selects Track and then reduces the dampening and put ESC back on - both manually. This gives you the Track brake, steering, throttle etc settings without the unbearable ride. Also, as he mentions, means that if you overcook it in a corner the EDC nanny will save your sorry arse 😊
Just turn it all off in drift mode with hard suspension feel the car come alive! Lift off over steer
I christen thee "Smilly the jaw breaker" Your smiling so much your jaw hurts. ;-)
Sweet will give it a try now thanks for the heads up az normal
mate what you done still has driving aids ie ESC on. it's basically sport mode with AWD steering in sport mode. Sport mode's AWD steering is actually normal mode.
try out Drift mode and hold ESC button 5 seconds for ESC to switch off, the "i" icon to pop up on center dash. this is a really fun drift mode i'm trying currently, car feels alot more loose and nimble :)
also, ESC on is different from Traction Control i think
thanks Eugene. I haven't tried the drift mode with everything switched off but hopefully will get a chance shortly!
Eugene Chua like the golf R ESC is stability control and traction control is wheel spin, so you are correct
Road race mode.
lol I like how everyone in the comments has an rs.
+qwerty qwerty well of course! It's really aimed at them!
Too stiff? hahaha. Ive driven 2000lb cars with 12k springs on the street with no issues. I don't know what you're on about.
Linus Torvalds dampers/shocks have a lot to do a lot with how the ride quality feels. The Focus adjusts the dampers to be more "stiff".
and my ebay coilovers with 12k springs arent?
with the dampers in sport mode they are really stiff and no good for road use. I'm by far the only person to mention this! It's only intended for track use as it's too uncomfortable for road use.
Matt Ferra has mentioned it,you can see his tits jiggle during his review
hehe
