That was my main issue with this car when i test drove it. It didnt "feel" like 350 hp / torque. Nice video clean presentation of the difference the tune makes.
I'm watching this a flashed back when I was working on about the first digital fuel injection. That was 1970 and the computer was as big as a small apartment refrigerator.
Best video tutorial review on the AP for the Focus RS I have seen. Thanks!. I didn't know it snowed in "Mexico". LoL. . Question .. did you use the cobb OTS tune or did you get a custom eTune from cobb since every vehicle has its little differences?
Are you kidding Bobo? We know it's in he states, but most of Mexico is higher than 3800 ft above sealevel. And average over 4500 ft. Lots of snow above 5000 ft.
At 80 mph I average 22-21mpg on the eco tune and 20-19 on the stock and race tune. At lower speeds the difference is much bigger though I can nearly get 30mpgs at 65-70 mph on the eco tune.
Shenanigan Shop that's quite good mileage! I took a road trip this fall from Washington State down to Southern California and averaged 16 to 18 mpg with my RS at 80 MPH, and 18 to 20 at 60 MPH. But I had a cargo box, roof rack, and mountain bike on top of my car! Without anything on top of my car I averaged 22 to 24, but it is very hilly here in Washington.
I road tripped from Minnesota to Massachusetts it took 2 days. Average MPG was 28 with cruise set to 75 mph that was in about 80 degree Fahrenheit weather
Just picked up my RS yesterday. Will ford know you're switching between maps? I'd like to keep my warranty and will switch back to stock tune on the AP but jist wondered if they can find out...
Juan Tobon they can tell the computer was reset. If you flash back to stock and uninstall the ap then drive to dealership it’ll show on the computer when they hook up it only has 10 miles on it. They will assume it was because it was tuned but have to prove it was the cause of the specific failure you’re in for. Some service techs will flag it. Some won’t. It’ll all depends, but no, they won’t know what exactly you have done to it.
The tune doesn’t effect the odometer reading dude lol even if it’s uninstalled, probably shouldn’t talk about stuff you don’t know much about might make you look kinda silly🤷🏻♂️ plus mine was warrantied after being tuned
I really couldn’t tell you, in my case the tune didn’t effect my warranty. I had a catastrophic engine failure and got a new long block completely under warranty (which I have a video on) but other people say their warranty was denied because of the tune. So the answer is maybe lol
@@shenaniganshop3309 I don't think Agent K was talking about the odometer. The ECU does know how many run/start cycles have happened since the last flash. If you have 11,000 miles and show up with a problem and 10 run/start cycles since reflash, they'll have a good guess as to what's going on. No proof though, hence "undetectable". Also, not all dealers are as strict as others when it comes to warranty claims. Thankfully, I've only dealt with the more gracious ones on the rare occasion I've needed it.
Hi, I know this is so old but just in case I have questions. I am thinking about getting Cobb access port. How long did you run OTS tune? Did you blow up?
Ran it for a few months and yeah it did😂 but tbh it was probably more down to me abusing the car than the tune itself. Modern cars have pretty impressive knock control so imo a ots isn’t the worst thing. I think my issue was disabling the soft limiter so I could ride the fuel cut and that caused a valve train failure which killed my motor. So I’m my experience avoid banging off limiter and doing flat spins😂. It’ll probably be fine.
wow, It is so old i didnt expect a reply. Thank you for the update. Sorry about your RS. I hope you went Built mountune longblock for replacement......hehe 🙂Subbed.@@shenaniganshop3309
Lets not sell the ST short here. At 10:00 you say the eco mode makes more power than an ST. I have tested my ST alot and found a 40-80 video on a stage 1 cobb tune. It covered 40-80 in 4.9 seconds on cobb stage 1 tune with just a CAI.
Rustie Shackelford yeah this was before I rode in a st they are definitely a lot quicker then people think, my buddy used to have a stage one st and it was really close to my rs from a roll.
Thomas Oleson the st is lighter and makes good torque so at lower speeds it keeps up well but the rs has a lot more top end so after about 50mph the rs really pulls ahead
Hey man, great vid. I have a 17 RS and just waiting until the spring until I get the accessport. Two questions. When you install the accessport onto the car is it automatically in the race tune. Secondly do you live next to a runway because that road looks insane, thanks
Yep it defaults to the race tune but its super easy to switch, I live like 3 miles from a very vacant hiway road in "mexico" it's pretty convenient. Thanks for watching!
Yeah man just got it on Wednesday. Not happy because in the "recall" ( Ford doesn't like to refer it as that), it clearly states that they will provide alternate transport, a rental. But my local dealership said no I would have to spend $40 a day because I did not buy the car at that dealership. I have spent hours on the phone with someone from China trying to resolve this but at this point just want to stick a poker in my eye. I had an STI before this and Subaru where always incredible with service, loaner cars, anything. I have had nothing with issues withFord and how they have handled this recall and there service. Even the guys at the dealership where old cranky miserable shits, hated there jobs and it showed. Maybe its the culture of Ford but never again
Darren Law that’s a pretty messed up situation but I’d say that’s more to do with your dealer then the brand as a whole, some dealers are scummy like that and others go above and beyond.
Darren Law It took my dealer 5 weeks to replace my head gasket but they kept me in various the whole time I needed one. I went out of town for a week in the middle of the work but they put me in another loaner when I returned home.
I wouldn’t call it reliable, it really depends on how you drive it of course, I tend to drive my cars pretty hard so I’ve had some issues😂 some guys have none.
Good video man. Do you have any other aftermarket upgrades besides the intake? Just wondering how much a custom tune would make a difference with intake and exhaust over the preloaded tunes. Thanks. Keep the videos coming. Would be sweet to see you drifting around in some snow lol
@@shenaniganshop3309 That's what I figured. Maybe play around with this right before a clutch replacement or upgrade. Thanks for the response, I know this is a old video.
Shenanigan Shop like you said, you’re dad has purchased several cars from the same dealership, so they’re likely overlooking any performance modifications that have been made. In reality, this technically voids your warranty.
The Cobb Stage 1 Focus RS tune is a waste. Abysmal no difference from stock. Just go with a pro-tune from Stratified or any of the other well respected tuners. You'll have so much more power on-tap and so much better drivability.
WOW...... I am thinking to get the B7 package or B3 package from mountune and B3 has 69 TQ i believe and B7 has nearly 90TQ, if 50 does that much then B3 and B7 should be insane haha
I don't understand how so. Any of you can just void your engine warranty so quick and easily? And yes this voids your warranty. It's also a federal violation of EPA laws to unlock a locked ECU, and manufacturer laws. The EPA is starting to crack down on people big time. And there is no way to re-lock the ECU if you remove the tune .

Pick your Ford dealership carefully, I went through hell with the dealership I bought mine at for repairs and had to go to Ford Performance to find one that sold performance parts to deal with my modified car. Even so, they all will blame your tune for any engine or P-Code issues.
A buddy of mine got a eco boost f-150 at the same dealership, he has a tune, aftermarket boost tubing and a full cat back exhaust, took his truck to some off-roading event blew his transfer case and the the dealership didn’t say anything, just fixed it under his warranty. He didn’t even take his Cobb access port out of his truck.
Shenanigan Shop where tf is that? I'm gonna buy the extended warranty for my rs and try not to pay hell having my car fucked up since they gotta take the head off it for recall...

There is NO SUCH THING as a undetectable tune. LoL, I can't believe speed shops/companies are still claiming that bs. Once the ECU is unlocked, it's unlocked no matter what which equals YOUR SCREWED.
OTS tune is trash, the Accessport and OTS tune is just a “get you to the dyno shop for a real tune” i do not recommend anyone using the OTS maps for long interval, they are not healthy. A protune is worlds safer, also the engine will be much happier.
Wrong the rs can only be dynod in “fwd mode” because the rear differential is ever so slightly higher geared then the front and this causes multiple problems on a awd dyno look up a video of an rs being dyno’d it’s always in fwd mode
