Ukraine not being able to join NATO as term for peace negotiations? Thanks to Finland both applying for - and joining - NATO DURING this conflict, Putin's window of opportunity to prove that he was truly sincere about this issue of NATO encroachment is long gone. His concerns of NATO encroaching on his country's borders no longer has a leg to stand on now.
Besides, is it fair that Putin would allow Finland to join NATO but not Ukraine?

@@cheefkeef8749 The issue is Putin's claims that he doesn't want NATO at his borders. If it was about ports Russia could use, why couldn't Putin just say so? And besides, if Ukraine has people that want to be Russian, they could have just moved to Russia.

Looks like Russian military defense is non existent once you have crossed the front lines. Jets naked on parking bays, drones flying with impunity...very bad signs. They still have the nuclear option, I hope they pull out of Ukraine asap before they get hammered any further. A man who has nothing left to lose is a dangerous man. I also hope they have full control of their nuclear arsenal, I can not help but think of The Sum of All Fears film.

In a normal army you should have around 5 -8 supporting soldiers for every one fighting. So ruffly speaking Putin has 100 -200 000 in his fighting force. The rest runs logistics, maintenance and what not. This mean he has around 100-200 soldiers per km at the frontlines. In reality they are not evenly spaced out and there is propably less since the artillery crews, and armour crews are big and behind the lines.

We've already seen how the war will end. Back in 2022, Russia's original invasion force was so degraded that Ukraine collapsed the Russian front line both in Kherson and Kharkiv. Russian forces were so degraded that a tipping point had been reached. Yes of course the economic forces may contribute to this, but in the end its just simply a war of attrition.
The only real tactical advantage that Russia has and the only way they've scored gains in recent months is massive attacks with glide bombs. Russia's air defences are being whittled down. Ukraine will have not just F16s but also far more modern air-launched weapons. Meaning Ukraine can now further degrade Russia well behind the front line. More storages, rail lines, transformers, troop concentrations. it won't seem immediately decisive, but the rate of attrition will increase. The tactic of using drones as road blocks will expand. This will lead to the creation of safe zones where Russian vehicles can't enter an area. That will give Ukraine the ability to do things like construct a beachhead on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
The big offensive will come in the form of a move to cut off Crimea. Again, only when Ukraine has local air superiority. it can fly over Kherson oblast and lay waste to Russian armor and trucks. Again, using those western standoff weapons that came with the F16s. Russia does not have a lot of personnel in Crimea. When it is isolated it will be made untenable and Russia will withdraw. Of course the Russian response will be defend against this advance from the north, and rush its remaining resources, but this will leave it vulnerable on the northern and eastern fronts.
The end game will be one of systematically surrounding and blockading the two remaining cities - Donetsk and Luhansk. And I should add that by this stage Russia will have exhausted its Soviet era stockpiles. it will have no offensive capability and its last ditch moves will be to mobilise more meat. Only, there will be very few armored vehicles to transport them.
The point I'm making is that the end does happen suddenly. The current situation is as stable as it is because Russian is still throwing resources and it still has some air power. That will change.

Ukraine can drive all Russians out of Ukraine IF the US stops impeding their military efforts and the restrictions on arms supply, As for the US artillery shell production is seems that it will stay minuscule until the US is actually on war economy BUT that will not happen because the US is trading Ukrainian lives for their peacetime economy. In relation to the collective west, surely a well lead alliance would have multiple sources of supply for all ammunition excepting perhaps the most high tech and destructive munitions that are not needed in large quantities. Sadly the US policy seems to be to bleed the west of its defence monies and capabilities by refusing to share manufacturing on vital equipment and weapons. How hard would it be to cripple the western by sabotage attacks on "Peace time" american factories? If a factory can make 300k shells per year and there were 20 such factories around the globe that would give 6 million shells per year without switching to war economies! It is sad that is seems Ukraine is unable to properly prosecute its war of self defence simply because the US is not on a war footing even though NATO nations are being threatened constantly with war and sabotage! If the US is part of the west then Ukraine is the front line of a war against the west and the US is being protected by Ukraine and Europe. Sounds like the 20th century all over again!

No. There cannot be a compromise of any kind on Crimea. Russia leaves, and any Russians there are deported. The bridge is destroyed, and the borders are closed to Russian travel. They have no money now anyway, so their tourists will not be missed (and they were never welcome to begin with. Many international resorts advertise "No Russian Tours" in their brochures to attract tourists from other countries because Russians are legendary boors).
Any other outcome and Russia starts this process all over again (assuming Russia doesn't collapse and get formatted into different, de-nuclearized states).
