I really appreciate that you guys took a dive into this
BSG was fantastic, and for a low budget production on a quirky channel, BSG set a standard for the rest of the industry to follow. Almost like a Game of Thrones for science fiction in the early aughts
Also Richard Hatch was the original Captain Apollo in the 1978 series, which makes his role as Hatch in the 2004 series special
You guys do realize Richard Hatch was in the original Battlestar Galactica in 1978... He also worked really hard to get a continuation of that series, but later the studio decided on a remake of the whole thing. It is on his wikipedia page if interested.
This is still my favorite show of all time. No show draws me in and emotionally shakes me up like Battlestar Galactica.
The producer of BSG, Ronald B Moore, got into television through TNG and became a producer on DS9. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out - it explores a lot of the same themes as BSG and is, I feel, a post-9/11 show made before 9/11 and is also features a cast of characters you wouldn't see today.
well, that review took me back.
guess it's time to binge watch the series again!
thank you for another great video. ❤️
I've litterally been rewatching this over the last week! Nice timing
Edit: NOW REVIEW ARCANE PLEASE! :D
Keep watching btw. There is a scene between Tigh and Roslin about sacrifice that's fucking amazing and sends chills down you.
Best moment from season one was Tom Zarek talks to Lee Adams about his call sign. Apollo lecturing Apollo about being Apollo.
Richard Hatch was the original Apollo in the original BSG.
Richard Hatch was Apollo in the original series.
Isn't that great? Haha
I think you guys should go back and watch the miniseries pilot if you didn’t already!
Got the blue Ray box set on Amazon. Love this show so hard.
Love the occupation of New Caprica and the rescue w Sharon. The trial episodes were great w the blind lawyer.
great review
This was one of the first shows I ever binged: didn't mean to, but suddenly it's a week later and I've watched them all. And seeing you guys enjoy it is just a sweet surprise. Spoiler: the show actually has an ending. Possibly the first and best reboot that does so much more with the original material.
Tricia Helfer (Caprica Six). This was her first acting job. I think she emoted really well and naturally. A trick to telling good emotional acting is to mute the volume and just watch the actor and see if you can guess what they're feeling. She nailed it. She gets better as the series goes on too.
We need the Season 2/3 review!
For a channel called Nerd Soup, I'm pretty shocked you guys haven't seen BSG, one of the best series of all time and in terms of sci-fi drama up there with Star Wars and Star Trek. It was revolutionary at the time and a pretty huge hit, not just a cult following. It was so popular the cast even appeared in the U.N meeting. You said you saw Richard Hatch somewhere before, he was the actor that played the original Apollo in the original version of Battlestar back in the 70s and 80s.
Great review, I would love to see a director's cut of this show and improved visuals. They could honestly do a cut and improve on the show and make it released in 2022 and people would watch it
I loved this show. I binged watched it 10 years ago when it was on Netflix. There is a great skit from Portlandia based on this show, check it out
Really a great show with such a strong cast. Love the music as well. Show has some bumps with some story lines and handling of characters, but I think overall its still holds out well and worth watching. Currently watching Babylon 5 (Another amazing sci fi show worth watching) and plan to watch this again. The movie for BG also nicely fit into the series. I still have mixed feelings towards the ending for this series. I don't hate it but I do dislike the ending. Doesn't ruin the series, its just the weaker element/underwhelmed.
Loved this show. I miss this early era of TV where it really became the heart of entertainment.
Early Era? Are you around 80 years old?
Michael Hogan, the actor who plays Saul, suffered a head injury a couple of years back. Sadly, further medical complication came of the injury, and those left him infirm. His wife made a Kickstarter, and she has been giving updates on his condition. It sounds like he has made some progress since his injury.
Oh man. Please tell me you guys would revisit the episodes? I know the viewing numbers wouldn’t cut it but us Battlestar Galactica fans would watch every episode you release.
So say we all
My favourite scenes when Gaias was being messed with by Number 6 and he would have to tackle dealing with reality and his head. I thought he was a great actor, especially during his trial.
You guys would LOVE Babylon 5, it’s my fav and imo the best of the sci-fi space shows.
So say we all!!!
Hang on a sec
Does Nerd Soup not know about Richard Hatch playing Apollo in the original 1970's Battlestar Galactica TV Show and movie?
Although I am a fan of BSG (I have all the DVDs!) it's hard to argue it doesn't decline in quality as it goes on. There aren't many good episodes after they "Drop the Bucket" (No Spoilers, but you'll know it when it happens!).
They should have made President Alder or Eldar one of the final 5. The final 5 arch should have used flashbacks for people and politicians in high places to be part of the final 5 including the President. That's how Cylons would have done it, they would have made copies of powerful people.
Great to see people looking back at tgis show. Maybe not the greatest show but it has some of the greatest moments in television. It's not by chance that BSG got to be in a UN panel about human rights. (2009)
Wait till you get to season 4.. the episode called “the hub”.. is one of the best episodes of any tv series of all time
Colonel Tigh. Agathon/Boomer. Cavil. All along the watchtower/Daniel. Baltar's betrayal/redemption/betrayal/cult/redemption. What is Starbuck!?!. The many trials of Tyrol. The final 5. The things they do to a 6. !!! (Tricia Helfer definitely, not just a pretty face) .... Great show.
Great first two seasons. Post New Caprica things went down hill. If you listen to the commentary tracks, Ronald D Moore makes it very clear that they had no plan. Example: All Along the Watchtower was a "great! What does that mean? Dunno, we'll figure it out"
Best show ever
the 12 colonies, searching for the promised land....it's not subtle haha.
Aye
Babylon 5 next?!
Loved Babylon 5 as a teen. I wasn't sure how it would hold today but I started rewatching Babylon 5 and dang! Its better then I remember. Sure some things aged but the cast and stories are really some of the best sci if in my opinion.
Love BSG
BSG season 2-3 maybe 😁 ?
Tom Zarak = Richard Hatch = Apollo in the original BSG!
Doh!

Spoiler Alert… The Cylons don’t really have plan. First 2 seasons were great tv tho
Battlestar Galactica is my favorite early 2000s series that I can’t watch because of how tiresome and dated the serialization format of the time is.
