I am a new subscriber because I did change the compressor in my 2008 mazda NC miata.I researched yutube and your analysis is so accurate, same issues not cold on idle speed but cooler on driving speed.Changed the compressor and Bingo, very cold now even on idle 30 degrees now its freezing cold using ozone friendly natural gas refrigerant from eBay. And this also the first time I replaced compressor. The last time 10 years ago I was scammed by a Honda dealership here in Lancaster charged me $2300 for the same a.c. job on my honda civic and still did not do it right I have to return 2nd time for them to fix it and come to find out my evaporator is bad. What a bunch of Scammers in the service department. So I tried all DIY job on all my cars since then.

My 2010 Camry has a knocking/rattling sound when compressor is on. Sound goes away when just the blower on. Ac is ice cold. I was told compressor and ridiculous price, but after a few videos I'm wondering if it is just a pulley or clutch assembly? Thoughts?
I just received a recall notice and warranty extension from Honda re: AC compressor shaft seal leak. Did you get a notice as well? It is dated June 2023. Covers 2016-2021 Civics and 2017-2022 CRVs for original owner and any subsequent owners.
To my understanding, yes. Just ran into a misfire when the ac was running. Turned the car and ac off and let it sit for a couple minutes before going home for an hour drive. Ac wasn't running and we didn't run into any issues on the way home, check engine light even turned off when I started the car with no AC on
If the pressure switch is faulty would the out cover plate still spin with the pully whether the air-con is on or off as I can't hear the compress clutch clicking?
Mine seized up on my 2013 F150 5.0 finally. Snapped the belt in the process. Luckily that belt only runs the ac system pulleys and the other belt runs the water pump and alternator so I can still drive it.
@Nimble KIllaI'm still driving mine just fine. I removed the a/c belt completely and just keep all my windows down when I'm driving for cooler air. Lol. Not wanting to spend $300+ for a new compressor kit at the moment.
Sometimes a simple thing as compressor connecter can stop a compressor , I told mechanic can you check connecter, he said it is broken and fixed it and it worked
I need a little help with my 2006 Honda civic. Got the car used with no AC. I tried fixing it by replacing ac condenser, evaporator coil, and receiver dryer. I didn't replace the ac compressor. Charged it up, it was somewhat cold but not freezing cold. This was 3 years ago. Now the AC is blowing cool but not cold air. I thought maybe there was a leak but there's pressure in the lines. I added a little more freon, it got a little cold at that time and next day, it was blowing cool air only. So maybe i got a weak or bad ac compressor, what do you think? Everything else there was replaced not too long ago. I think I'll replace the ac compressor because i can't figure out what else could be wrong with it. The AC compressor clutch is fine.
Good Day Sir, every time I expose the car in the Sun for longer period of time, and decide to drive. The aircon cause a strange sound and not releasing the cold. What's the cause of that problem?
my exact problem thanks man hey what brands should i stay away from i need a new compressor and thinking of getting a piston upgraded from a rotor style on my 2006 mazda 3 2.3 l ????
My system is only giving static pressure 45psi on both high and low side. With the car on and compressor engaged, there is no movement on the gauges. While the compressor seems to be the most likely culprit, I hear that a stuck open expansion valve can show the same symptom. Is there any way to troubleshoot this further without swapping out parts?
I have this Honda Brio amaze and air is not cooling during Idle, only when the car is running or giving it a rev. what do you think I should replace? both Compressor and condenser?,. thank you,.
My compressor stays on, it keeps truck kinda cool in 95f outside, but anything below 85f outside it’s pretty cold in the truck. Freon is full, gauge is where it should be. Sometimes gets wArmer then cold while driving. Coolant is full but pretty dirty, is that a big problem? Any help?
Is increasing strain on the engine(almost to the point it stalls)when the compressor kicks on a sign it's going bad. For some reason my car automatically kicks on the compressor(even when it's cold and the heat is on) when I turn on my front defroster,so it's not even running the ac,but still putting a noticeable amount of strain on the motor. I plan on keeping the car forever as it's 27yrs old and the model is becoming a more and more scarce, and it's something that's always happened so idk if it's normal, but it's more noticeable than on any other car I've ever had
wait so how would you know the difference between a stuck expansion valve issue vs a bad compressor. in essence I would assume both would show on the ac gauge that the low pressure is too high and that the high pressure is too low (I might be wrong). but it that were the case how would you know which one is the issue? there's a big difference money wise to replace an expansion valve vs replacing an ac compressor. also I've heard that when you replace an AC compressor you have to replace the condenser, dryer and possibly the expansion valve. is this true or do u perform an AC flush to rid the system of metallic particles. So weird! my 2016 Off Road, 4x4, all of a sudden just shut off. (green ac light went off and stays off). When I push the AC button on, I can hear it run then it shuts off, green ac light goes off. I checked the fuse and the replay, they are working properly. I had a friend come over and he said the compressor is running which is good news, however, he then assumed the refrigerant its empty so he was going to add freon but, his gage says the freon in full. That is where we are confused. Also its the 1234y NOT the usual 123A. Any insights? I want to sell this truck but I need to get this fixed first. We live in Florida. We do NOT have the $$ to have it serviced or even diagnosed at a local toyota dealership, they are way expensive. Just installed new air cabin filter, it was atrociously bad, but that hasn't fixed it at all. ???Help??? MIGHT be a bad pressure switch>?? Praying mine if NOT behind the firewall.....ugh!
I have a question? We recently put a new battery in our 2004 Toyota Sienna and now there is a clicking noise coming from under the hood when we turn on the A/C. WHAT could THAT be?!
I pulled a vacuum for 30min, added the recommended freon now it is whining badly and it actually slows down the car or robbed a lot of power when the compressor kicks in
MY 1991 Nissan hardbody blows cold air 11Celsius (51.8 Farenheit) it used to squeal like a pig for a few seconds when I turned it on, now it is on all the time without turning the A/C on, and I noticed oil is present around the compressor. Do I need a new compressor?
I have a 2008 Accord V6 coupe. Air was blowing hot compressor not kicking on, checked fuses and relay all good jump started my compressor thru relay added some freon compressor started working. I put the relay back in and finished charging the a)c then I noticed a hissing coming from the high pressure hose,it was leaking around where the metal went into the rubber part. I ordered one and waiting on it to arrive. Is this common? Could there be other issues to cause this part to fail? It worked fine last year, noticed this the first time I used it this year.
I have the same issue with my accord v6 bro. when I recharged my ac it was making hissing sound like empty can type noise. and I kinda saw it bubble where u add the Freon in. I’m not sure if it’s a leak on the needle or what. Did u end up fixing ur problem ?
Hey thanks for the info working on my car notice the clutch is short cycling the freon is good pressure switch is good but the clutch keep cutting off and on to soon could it be the coil is going bad
Hey I have a Toyota 2008 Yaris My compressor colds at idle But when driving it get warm I’ve changed the control valve and expansion valve.. still having the same problem. Help! Thanks.
That’s exactly my problem. Standing still blows hot air but driving is ok. Could blow colder I’m sure. I suspected it’s the compressor and it seems I guessed right by your explanation.
My Honda when I hit certain bumps my AC goes off and if I hit another bump it comes back on..I’ve had blower checked and it’s good compressor is good..what could be the problem?
How do you know when to change just the compressor or the whole system? I've been told and seen on YT once the compressor goes bad fine metal particulate contaminates the system an will continue to blow through the evaporator, condenser, etc and will quickly blow back into the compressor and ruin the new one.
I have a 1994 Chevy pickup and behind the pulley on the compressor its showing some green bubbles. Will a leak repair stop it or do I need another compressor?
HI. i recent purchased a car sight unseen and noticed that theres a lot of brown dust around the ac compressor clutch. The cooling appears to be fine in the car at the moment, but I'm curious if this is a sign of a previous issue or just normal wear. Thanks!
See my thing is, my a/c works fine. But when I do have it on there’s a whistle that repeatedly goes in and out consistently. Do y’all know what it can be? Maybe a belt tension or serpentine?
This was a great help thank you. I spent most of yesterday struggling with mine. Is the system supposed to pull the freon in? I put a full vac on first.
Hi. I HAVE MUSTANG ECOBOOST 2017 american car. I am using it in dubai. I have AC problem. AC gets hoter as I drives. It cools better when i stop the car or release ACCELERATOR. I tool the car to many workshop and they still couldnt diagnose the problem. As I take the car to workshop it works perfectly. Sometimes they checked the pressure and said that the gas is more and released gas. The gas pressure increases and the compressor stops working. One of the technician told me that this could be problem with thermostat and they have to replace the thermostat which is a long procedure as they should dismantle the entire dash board. Some people say that the compressor might be bad and all. I am not able get a proper solution for the same. Could you please advise me what could be the problem?
I have the exact same issue and pressure reactions as shown in the video. The air is cool but not cold. Since this new compressor is not seized do I need to replace the condenser? I just replaced the condenser six months ago. I have had this issue from day one with this new compressor.
I have a question hope you can answer. My engine feels super sluggish when I have my ac on but when I don't feels great! So I run further risk driving it like that? I'm guessing my compressor is bad right? I have a Chevy Cruze eco 2015
I just installed a new air Conditioning system on a 2007 trailblazer I bought the kit from Napa it came with a new compressor and a little aluminum tank I forgot what it was called But we installed it on the car it came pre-charged with oil in the compressor and we actually dumped it out and added oil to it but the air worked amazing and I mean amazing would put frost on your windows for about two months and then three days ago we pull up to a red light and within 10 seconds the air went from freezing cold to hot. So I pop the hood and the compressor was not spinning. We checked the low pressure valve and it is working properly and the Freon levels are good. The only way the compressor will come back on is if you shut the car off and let it cool off for about an hour and when you start it back the compressor will run. And if you jump the relay with a wire the compressor will kick on and as soon as it kicks on you can take the wire out and put the relay back in and it will run for about 15 to 20 minutes again, But on a normal morning when you start the car the compressor will run for about 30 minutes sitting in the driveway in about 15 minutes if you’re driving it and then it will shut off and not come back on unless the car is cooled off. every mechanic shop I have spoke to has no clue why this does that. Do you think the new compressor is bad?
i replaced my radiator, water pump and thermostat and with the system getting bled the ac still doesn’t run as cold as it should. i brought it to a local shop and they fixed the problem initially. 38 degrees it got to. til about a week later i started to notice it would only get really cold when i would get on it at higher speeds, then eventually get warmer but still kind of cold. not 38 degrees cold but around 60. would this be a ac compressor failing? no leaks from what i could tell while it was being worked on and like i said it was fixed for about a week.
i have some problem with my compressor. its new, just installed it. but it empties the freon way too fast. like i just fill it up then for 5-10 minutes the freon is gone. also i check if there are leaks, no leaks found, so im confused whats going on.
@Nimble KIlla just drove my car to L.A. for the week and car died. It was a faulty battery and it fried my alternator. Changed both and car runs like normal. Still have the sound which I think is coming from the compressor but will look at it sometime this week.
My car sounds like the belt is bad or ac compressor is going bad! Its cool and stays cool just loud noise under hood like a bad belt or compressor going out
My car a/c not working properly. And cooling fan working at high speed. If I pour some water on condenser start cooling. Car is Toyota Corolla 2013 model. Variable displacement compressor. Compressor takes delay for getting on even I switched on a/c. Please tell me the possible fault Thanks JOHNY Dubai
My car hose was leaking I plugged all the holes up but I see the Freeon come out near the fan area as soon as the fan starts is that a compressor or a bad fan
Hi I don't really use my ac much now but the compresser is making noice and car seams to have problems with something not working right when in gear like break is stuck but it's not? 98 buick
Hey I just got a 2008 Tacoma my clutch engages all the time with the heat and the ac there’s no difference, shouldn’t the clutch not be engaged if the heat is just on? Also checking this video because my Tacoma just started to make a squeal noise when ac or heat is on? Would it be a bad compressor
Hi GreaseMonkeyRepairs, I have exactly same reading that you have in the videos at both idle and with 2000rpm. My AC compressor has electronic control valve and wondering if I could replace that to solve the problem. Please let me know your suggestion.
My clutch and compressor fan are working fine on my 2001 Honda Civic, but it’s doing exactly as you describe...air gets cold when driving and warm at idle. I don’t feel like my a/c clutch ever disengages as well...is that normal? Low side pressures are higher than I usually see them and high side is lower than usual? I did add some Freon but didn’t help. Any thoughts on what the issue might be? Thanks for your video and assistance!!
Scootdawg I would check your A/C condenser. The issues you described can happen if the condenser has debris in it or is just not working properly. If it is in fact the condenser I would highly suggest replacing it when you can since it can lead to a much more expensive compressor problem in the future.
Just wondering what you think the problem is. So when my truck is in park or stop at a light the A/C blows cold. But as soon as I start driving it blows hot. The clutch looks like it's working but I'm not sure.
I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive with a 5.3 V8 and it dies on me after I start the truck and let it set for a few minutes and sometimes it will die when I am backing up. And sometimes after I am driven for a little while when I slow down it does not always idol like it's suppose to ,the idol is jumping up and down and sometimes when I take off from a red light or stop sign it will hesitate and then jerk. I was told from a auto parts that it sounds like my ac it causing the problem, what do you think.I could really use some help. Thanks
The problem am having with my ac is. Sometimes it get cold and get hot by it self and get cold and hot again. Is not stable at all. Just get hot and cold while driven
You have to evacuate the system anytime the system is being opened to the atmosphere (to replace components, etc). If you don't evac, all the refrigerant will escape and potentially also injure you badly.
Yes you do but most times if you have a bad compressor most times it already let all the Freon out already because usually a bad compressor won’t hold the Freon in and let it escape but that’s not always the case either
Checked the AC on my GF 2004 Toyota Corolla that was blowing hot air. The magnetic clutch doesn't engage / spin on the compressor. With the AC turned on the fan under the hood doesn't spin. Checked the AC relay by swapping it out with the horn relay, horn didn't work, AC relay was bad. I replaced the AC relay but it didn't fix the problem. The fan still doesn't spin and the magnetic clutch on the compressor doesn't engage / spin. Not sure what to do and can't really afford going to a mechanic (they quoted me $125 just for the diagnostic).
Well this sucks. I've NEVER used my ac in my 2016 colorado because I worked overnights never hot at night. Now I work during the day and ac would work once in a blue but stopped entirely for at least a year about a month ago it was working again for 2 days straight till I remote started the car with a quarter tank left... hot air immediately doesn't work now. Ac doesn't even kick on at all just blows air in if I use ac with air from outside its warm opposed to no ac and letting air blow in feels cool.
Your vid was awesome!! I have an old 96 Saturn SL2 with a 27 year old Zexel compressor. It engages fine but doesn't seem to have any output. Pressure on LP side shows static 55psi and 43psi at idle which then drops to 35psi at 2000rpm. Air does gets a tiny bit colder as you pointed out. When I spin the compressor by hand it spins wicked easy, like it isn't really doing that much. Questions: Could I go with a used Pull-A-Part compressor and get a couple more seasons? Do I need to change the condenser as well? I can order an R-D as they're wicked cheap on Rockauto (like $8). I hate to throw new parts at this car. New compressor is like $150-200. Ugggh!
@@RusnakAutoDesign I fixed my AC. It turned out my Schrader valve on the LP side went bad and it let my refrigerant out. Bought new valves and had a shop evacuate and leak check the system, then fill it. Cost me $150. It's the first time I ever had the AC serviced in 25 years.
I got a 2006 Silverado sometimes it blows ice cold then it stops after awhile I’ll go inside a store come back out turn truck back on and go and I’ll turn ac back on and works fine again but then stops after awhile and it’s rare but some times it stays cold till I arrive where ever I’m going even if I’m on the freeway or stop and go traffic I could leave the truck in the sun when it’s 107 degrees out sides and will now ice cold then stops any advice where I can fix the problem
If the passenger side is blowing ice cold, bur the driver side is blowing hot hot hot (not just warm, but HOT) is it possible that my ac compressor is going bad, or would you say it's probably something other than the compressor?
Mine will stay hot for about 8 to 10 mins, Only the fan will keep blowing despite driving around. After 10 mins, it will start working normally. I can park, switch off my engine, and twill still work when I need it, but the whole thing repeats itself the next day...

Very helpful. Had the same issue--temp fluctuating up and down as i drove and/or idled at lights. This was very helpful to understand the issue and confirm the diagnosis from the shop. Thank you!
I knew mine was bad when it locked up and made one hell of a screeching sound and stalled the engine
Hope you got back on the road quick! Mine makes an awful noise so I don’t use it, I don’t need it freezing up and break my serpentine belt. 😬
You turn it off and the engine unstalls.
Good way to tell

Hi can a bad ac compressor cause rough idle, misfires and poor engine performance also??
To my understanding, yes. Just ran into a misfire when the ac was running. Turned the car and ac off and let it sit for a couple minutes before going home for an hour drive. My car do the same thing! It blows out good air, but every time I use my air my engine pulls bad. @DatBoiT24
Reeds in the comp are allowing the high psi hot gas to return to the low side giving a high suction psi.
Now my AC turns on and listening fan turns on has a right amount of refrigerant but I still get warm air any ideas
What was it? Thermostat?
If the pressure switch is faulty would the out cover plate still spin with the pully whether the air-con is on or off as I can't hear the compress clutch clicking?
Would any body else have like a burning smell???

I've been told and seen on YT once the compressor goes bad fine metal particulate contaminates the system an will continue to blow through the evaporator, condenser, etc and will quickly blow back into the compressor and ruin the new one.
How will it differ from low refrigerant? it should produce similar situation in either case.
I have a 1994 Chevy pickup and behind the pulley on the compressor its showing some green bubbles. Will a leak repair stop it or do I need another compressor?
You would want to change the entire compressor vs repairing it (it's cheaper to buy a new one)
HI. i recent purchased a car sight unseen and noticed that theres a lot of brown dust around the ac compressor clutch.
Hi, When I on heater, compressor also running. It is normal? Can you please help me with your correct answer.
Hey my ac in my Honda blows cold on one side , I changed the blend door actuator , but it still does it . Any suggestions
Thanks for the video. My AC works on my 2008 Highlander but noise comes from the engine compartment when the AC is on. Any hints?
I have the exact same issue and pressure reactions as shown in the video. The air is cool but not cold. Since this new compressor is not seized do I need to replace the condenser? I just replaced the condenser six months ago. I have had this issue from day one with this new compressor.
Does this work the same way with heat and would a bad compressor cause over heating
Thanks man my car has the same guage readings, glad this video is up. Time to get digging in the engine bay🙃
I have a question hope you can answer. My engine feels super sluggish when I have my ac on but when I don't feels great! So I run further risk driving it like that? I'm guessing my compressor is bad right? I have a Chevy Cruze eco 2015
No you lose some power when ac is on totally normal
Hello, I drive Prius 2005. My ac compressor makes noise when I turn on the AC and it blows heat. What do you advice I change?
Thank you my Question has been answered time for a compressor
What if you have low Freon? Will it have the same symptoms?
Was just wondering if the ac compressor can cause the car to sound like it doesn't want to start if it's going out and the clutch is making noise
@Nimble KIlla just drove my car to L.A. for the week and car died. It was a faulty battery and it fried my alternator. Changed both and car runs like normal. Still have the sound which I think is coming from the compressor but will look at it sometime this week.

Ac and heat only work on high. What's the problem?
My car sounds like the belt is bad or ac compressor is going bad! Its cool and stays cool just loud noise under hood like a bad belt or compressor going out
Joe Gandarilla ,if its the compressor you might stretch its life with an ounce or 2of the proper pag oil.
My car a/c not working properly. And cooling fan working at high speed. If I pour some water on condenser start cooling. Car is Toyota Corolla 2013 model. Variable displacement compressor. Compressor takes delay for getting on even I switched on a/c. Please tell me the possible fault
Thanks

Is it true that the PCM controls the the AC compressor and will shut it off when you're accelerating to free up our power?
Lol low quality video my ass. Very well made. Thank you sir!
My wife has 2014 chevy cruze that squeaks when she gives it gas with the ac on.. wat is this?
Fan probably not working
Just wondering what you think the problem is. So when my truck is in park or stop at a light the A/C blows cold. But as soon as I start driving it blows hot. The clutch looks like it's working but I'm not sure.
Did u figure your xblem mine does the same alredy change condenser n valve but still doing same
More than likely a vacum leak
I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive with a 5.3 V8 and it dies on me after I start the truck and let it set for a few minutes and sometimes it will die when I am backing up. And sometimes after I am driven for a little while when I slow down it does not always idol like it's suppose to ,the idol is jumping up and down and sometimes when I take off from a red light or stop sign it will hesitate and then jerk. I was told from a auto parts that it sounds like my ac it causing the problem, what do you think.I could really use some help. Thanks
Do I need to replace the condenseur if I replace the ac compressor ?
Great information thanks alot same issue I'm having with my ac driving its cooling but not maximum and at idle I boil...
Thanks that really answered my question fast!
Great info simple diagnosis
The problem am having with my ac is. Sometimes it get cold and get hot by it self and get cold and hot again. Is not stable at all. Just get hot and cold while driven
did you fix it?
That sounds like the orfice tube or expansion valve
Please answer me this question is it normal for the AC compressor to kick on and off within 10 or 15 seconds?
If you replace a failing A/C Compressor before it completely fails, do you still have to evacuate the system before replacing it?
You have to evacuate the system anytime the system is being opened to the atmosphere (to replace components, etc). If you don't evac, all the refrigerant will escape and potentially also injure you badly.
Yes you do but most times if you have a bad compressor most times it already let all the Freon out already because usually a bad compressor won’t hold the Freon in and let it escape but that’s not always the case either
Could bad compressor and/or clutch or pulley cause humming noise without air running?
My ac got hissing sound,no cold air....i check the compresor ok.. whats the common prob?
Ugggh!
Lol, I'm looking for AC fixes for my 96 sw2, and starting to read your comment made me chuckle.
Can a bad compressor cause bad gas mileage when AC is on? Thanks for the video!
No
my freons good -fans hi/lo good -clutch engages on comp etc -must be a weak compressor car is at 170 k so?
If the passenger side is blowing ice cold, bur the driver side is blowing hot hot hot (not just warm, but HOT) is it possible that my ac compressor is going bad, or would you say it's probably something other than the compressor?
I bet you have dual climate control?
If the AC can blow cold, it is likely not the issue, more likely a controls issue.
Mine will stay hot for about 8 to 10 mins, Only the fan will keep blowing despite driving around.
After 10 mins, it will start working normally. I can park, switch off my engine, and twill still work when I need it, but the whole thing repeats itself the next day...
Is it true that a malfunctioning thermostat sensor or thermostat cooling engine effect compressor operation?
My truck will shut off when ever i turn my ac or defrost on, any advice?
Thx just what I was looking for golden info thanks a lot 😊😊
