Weirgly, my refrigerant depleted this winter in nyc.... not sure why, my Compressor Clutch is not engaging. I will get one of those bottle and add a little refridgerant and test but i'm taking my car to a AC pro to have it looked at after my testing.

Probably a major leak somewhere... Usually the clutch. You'll need to find the leak, replace the leaking parts and then have the system recharged.

Will the clutch still “click” with the battery test method if I have no refrigerant in my lines?

Why not using just a jumper wire from the car battery? Thanks for the video

Thanks .. now i know a bit more...... Question if refrigerent is low or empty will it stop clutch engagement or stop coil from activating? .... When i turn on AC the my AC fan runs but clutch does not engage.... It made a noise while ago then stopped completely.... Like a bearing noise.... I think clutch, bearing and coil went at same time.... Fuse is could ... I will check relay as last resort ... Then i will replace the whole AC compressor which is about $700 😢😢😢😢 .... Bummer

  • @jaimslaw

Any reason why not do 2 tests at once, as in jump the 2 high pressure switch pin sockets to send a signal to the PCM that the switch is in closed position (PCM thinks pressure is correct and will allow power to the relay for the compressor clutch), and then use some wires from the battery terminals to bypass the relay and send pwr directly to the clutch via the relaybosrd pin sockets - the foregoing after first determining correct pins on the pressure switch via continuity testing, and also the correct pin sockets on the clutch relay either by the diagram on the relay switch showing which relay sockets send pwr to the clutch, or by ringing out the clutch relay sockets to determine which 2 relay pin sockets pwr the relay switch and which 2 send pwr to the clutch). If clutch still not spinning, disconnect pwr coupling to the compressor, connect wired up alligator clips to that you have going to your battery terminals. If no clutch clicking sound when touching + and - battery terminals, clutch is toast. Realize that I’m spitballing all this.😮

If the pressure switch is faulty would the out cover plate still spin with the pully whether the air-con is on or off as I can't hear the compress clutch clicking?

I have a problem on my ‘05 Outback XT. The A/C fans always stay on high when the A/C is turned on. They never go down to low speed.. As a consequence the engine overheats slightly unless I drive the car on the Hwy and the temp goes down thanks to the Hwy airflow.. my A/C works fine by the way..

What if I have full fresh freon, new thermostat, new relay, new-ish compressor, but the clutch suddenly stopped working, then worked for a few hours, then for a couple days it did not engage, then suddenly it did again, cold ac, but then i shut it off, it stayed engaged, and lights on the controls stayed on until i turned the a/c on and off again?

    • @danielsumerix4419

Follow the a/x lines to a sensor, it's know as a pressure control Sensor.
It engages and disengages your a/c clutch if the Freon pressure is accurate. Sometimes this sensor dies. Try to test with a multimeter or replace it

I have issues with my A/C, will blow air but not cold air, added refrigerant as i thought that was the issue but it was reading full and no leaks as far as i could see, so I went down the RUclips rabbit hole and found out my A/C clutch wasn't spinning, so I checked the relay, that was fine, found out I could jump the low pressure switch to see if it'll spin and it does but still no cold air and when I went to check the pressure it read as low low.. I'm simply stumped... which reading is the right one? And how do I fix this?? Trying to donit myself.

Your pressure has to be read with the compressor engaged so when it was on and the pressure read low that was your actual pressure

    • @jacopo.scarpellini

Didn’t he just apply 12 V (or whatever that battery voltage was) in series to the existing 12 battery, effectively applying 24V at the coil? I would have thought you just need to short the relay terminals (the ones he tests for continuity)

    • @Rishie3D
      @Rishie3D 21 день назад

If you look at the relay it shows you which two terminals trigger the relay. Should be diagonal from each other

The can literally tells you if that isn’t moving then do not apply refrigerant.
