- A new website, Scrut.my, which claims to offer the service of obtaining the full history of your Japan-spec recon car for a fee of RM50 has just debuted.
I have yet to speak to the people in charge of this, but if you are in the market for a Japan recon car, you definitely have to take a look at these guys.
The recon market has many interesting deals, but bear in mind that these are, at the end of the day, used cars with history and past owners. So, the same practices which we recommend for buying used cars apply, be thorough in checking the vehicle's condition and history.

100% CORRECT! I bought a 3 year old reconditioned Audi. Second month of ownership the mechatronic kong, 11k to fix. Less than 3 months, engine blew! 15k to fix. Within 2 years of, absorber kong, passenger and driver window rosak, air-cond compressor kong, water pump kong, exhaust bocor. Aiyo And so many more. I’ll never ever buy a reconditioned car ever again, especially UK SPEC! My friend same modal same year japan spec somehow only minor issues. Side note I bought the opal warranty, some things they covered some didn’t
The general wisdom is that UK spec cars are more severely used than their Japanese counterparts.

As I understand, recon cars are kinda like used car. For example, you can get a 2021 alphard from japan. Why does a car that is still kinda new is already being sold in japan? Do people there just use their cars for 2-3 years and then get a new one?
Yes, recon car is just a used car from another country. There are many reasons why people sell off their new-ish cars. In some cases, the recon dealers have people at the exporting country buying these cars up, age them, and then export to sell in Malaysia.

I record in my neighbourhood as a matter of convenience only. Haha. The E39 is driven frequently in my daily grind anyway.
Hi Abg Kon... can someone please address the issue about used car companies rolling back odometers. Its not only an unethical business conduct it also endangers the safety and pockets of buyers. Aren't there any laws about this?
There are no laws that adequately cover this. So consumers will unfortunately have to depend on their wits

They do user cars also, but that is pending an inspection of the vehicle along with maintenance records.

Aiya. Simple say la. Can say almost all salesman need to lie to sell to profit. If i say they are conman, pretty sure some butthurt salesman here will retailiate. If u are honest, how to sell? So be a smart consumer then.
