FILM DESCRIPTION:
Disillusioned knight Bowen (Dennis Quaid) befriends Draco (Sean Connery), the last of the dragons, and the two begin scamming village folk as Bowen repeatedly "kills" Draco for money. Bowen soon learns that Draco is the same dragon who once saved his former student, now King Einon (David Thewlis), from death by giving him a piece of his heart. Einon is now a merciless tyrant, and Bowen is compelled to stop him -- but the bond between king and dragon means if one dies, the other does as well.

I felt this movie was beyond it’s time. The graphics were well done considering when it came out. I think iv watched this movie a thousand times since I was a kid.
they were not well done back in 1996. jurrasic park came out in 1993 and it looked much better
Me too...
Anton Nguyen a difference in taste I suppose I myself enjoyed this movie far more then jurassic park
@@charlieclemens5798 you know why Jurassic Park uses limited CGI? Because Steven Spielberg knows how to use practical effects in conjuction with cgi to make an effective scene. Unlike this movie that was to reliant on waky cgi that became dated to quickly
They were both done by the same company industrial light and Magic in this movie they have way more difficult CGI shots than Jurassic Park.
This takes me back, absolutely loved this movie when I was a kid

"We should set up a 'dragon slayer' racket and milk these imbeciles for everything they're worth?"
"Correct!"
Well so potential dragonslayers would think their job is done here.
When you squeeze the nobility it’s the peasants who feel the pinch.
The CGI in this movie is actually very inspiring
Great quality compared to some modern CGI. Hard to believe I was only 4 when this came out. Didn't see it until I was in high school. Love it.
darthstarkiller1912 Industrial light and Magic sure knows how to get the job done.
This is a great example of CGI can work if done right
Pretty good for the time.
For its time it was mind-blowing! Just check a few movies with CGI of the same year, they're not even by an inch close to this.
As a longtime and massive obsesser of dragons for over 16 years, I have to say that Dragonheart was AWESOME!!!! I've watched all of them except Dragonheart 2: New Beginning

This franchise is the only one to correctly pull of Dragons. Every other franchise either goes with "they are brutes" or with "they are wise". This is a perfect balance.

When you realize that giant flying lizard have more facial expressions than talking lion.
Of course and this movie still was my live action answer to The Lion King before any remake!
That's because the lions are supposed to look ultrarealistic, and real life lions don't have the range of facial expression as humans. Dragons on the other hand are fictional, thus having more creative liberties
@@SleepySloth2705 i didn't knew lions could talk!
@@SleepySloth2705 This is because ultra-realistic CGI lions performing cartoon antics do not work. Just as ahem... cladding actors in CGI fur.

How is no one admiring his perfect form of a swan dive?
Slovakia, everyone who sees and hears me here, thank you very much for participating in the filming of this miracle. You are just great.
Your places were like Wales, which was most likely hinted at here without direct designation. Therefore, I wildly dream of visiting Slovakia and all the places where this fairy tale was filmed.
And then, it remains to make only a good, normal remake in natural Wales with its no less beautiful nature and castles and correcting jambs and adding new interesting moments from both the 1996 novel and your own head.
Thank you all again. I love and respect. And I despise Raffaella for her betrayal.
I watched this movie no less than 7 million times as a kid.

Before Drogon, Rhaegal, Vyserion and Smaug’s Dragon, we had Draco's in 1996
joshua ashley SMAUG, because he is much bigger and he is evil
How about its fight
Bull dragon from reign of fire or Draco
Yea, smaug was first put to film in the 70s, so, sorry, that one is erroneous. I grew up watching this And the original animated The Hobbit, and I recommend both.
Draco ain't no Vermithrax Pejorative.
Everyone here saying Draco would lose to these other dragons because he isn't big or strong enough. When Draco would kick all their asses because he's slicker then the lot of them.

1:06 I finally noticed after all these years that he literally swan dives into the water.
That was so impressive to me as a kid! I loved seeing his silhouette under water!
Cool move, but a very bad dive, easily only a 1 or 2 out of 10, that splash was far too big for Draco to be considered for the Olympics.

And after that he was a heartless cut-throat pirate and recently an upgrade of a beloved Hanna Barbera villain who has a snickering dog.

Movie was fun! Something we are missing in this time.
Rest In Peace, Sean Connery.
Man the cgi is really not bad at all, especially for the time, that underwater swimming scene was top notch looking, why do studios make such a fuss about the cost of CGI nowadays, house of the dragon acts like 2-3 minutes of cgi per episode will rank the entire production, why don’t they just use slightly lower resolution and pixel count it would still look good and we could have them in the story as much as they’re supposed to be
This movie is great compared to what we got now
Rest in peace Sir Sean Connery...

I'm surprised that there are people complaining about the cgi, the truth is that the effects for the time are good. Obviously if you compare them with Jurassic Park it's normal that they don't look as good, but the common 90's movies had worse effects, and having a dragon protagonist made entirely with computers was a great challenge.

Definitely like Obi Wan and if there was a more proper prequel than the DTV sequels, Draco would have definitely been the Kenobi of his own series getting to be alongside powerful allies and female lovers before losing them to a supposed purge between dragonslayers or the very same race against each other by arrogance before Bowen even barged in!

Lord, why did you, the author, decide to help with my grievance at the betrayal of Raffaella De Laurentiis?) Divinely in this film, everyone will get tired of listing, and what projects and concepts were started, mmm.
And all this remained just like this. Pain.
You mean the cut lines that were presented in the novelization?
@@ladisneyprincesse Yes, you are right, and I spoke about them. It hurts to think about it all. Although a normal part from enthusiasts can be taken into a remake in order to embody them there, though, the novelization is well written. Like a script for a director's cut.
Dyadyushka Malferon Drevnich considering how much offset secrets were revealed. Luckily the voice actor did his job remotely that he just loved the script and didn't deal with all the BS in the human scenes! Btw, that swimming scene in the novelization seemed to me more joyous!
@@ladisneyprincesse
I have a lot to say, but I'm only glad)
I didn’t know that the novel describes the adventure of our favorite in the depths of the river, I don’t come across this short story for free reading, therefore, I only know about it in fragments. There was fun with fish, underwater bends, algae and so on, I suppose it was. In the remake it will definitely be worth adding, especially the direct underwater shooting through the camera in the aqua box, which was so lacking in the first film.
Sean Connery is generally well done that he no longer works with Raffaella after this incident, he was lucky then. Was he in Slovakia at the time of filming?
