FILM DESCRIPTION:
Disillusioned knight Bowen (Dennis Quaid) befriends Draco (Sean Connery), the last of the dragons, and the two begin scamming village folk as Bowen repeatedly "kills" Draco for money. Bowen soon learns that Draco is the same dragon who once saved his former student, now King Einon (David Thewlis), from death by giving him a piece of his heart. Einon is now a merciless tyrant, and Bowen is compelled to stop him -- but the bond between king and dragon means if one dies, the other does as well.

It's hard to tell who's sacrifice was more. Draco as the last Dragon. Or Bowen knowing the world is a poorer place without Dragons in it.

@@kyze8284 you missed the part where he saved his soul and ascended to the dragon's heaven. by becoming man's guardians the dragons were able to go to heaven. partake in a version of humanity's afterlife.

When Bowen said to his dragon friend, “You are the last", it made me feel like goosebumps for how much a good friend Draco is to him.
It's so true and still breaks me how it's said!

Dennis Qaid, David Thewlis and Sean Connery tear the house down with their performances in this. One of the best and purest fantasy films out there.

It is a mixture of sad and happy, sad because Draco had to die but happy because he went to Heaven with all his family and friends, Einion was dead so all the tyranny was destroyed and Bowen became king.
Unfortunately the sequels came along
But there must be other ways. We could reunite the half of his heart he gave to Einon.

This ending was too heartbreaking because I hated to see the last and good hearted dragon die.

Hearing Sir Sean Connery’s voice now is so nostalgic! The world lost a true legend when he passed! RIP to Mr. Connery. And to Draco, the last and greatest dragon!! ❤️🐉⭐️✨
After 25 years I’m seeing this in a new light as an adult.. I think this scene captures the anger and journey surrounding Bowen and Draco’s friendship. They couldn’t just be friends. They were made friends out of unfortunate circumstance. Einon is a symbol of their friendship. Which 25 years later I think the characters who played Einon did amazing jobs. Young Einon was vulnerable and curious.. older Einon became twisted but at the end of day there was still a heart in him, or half of one. That actor really made us hate Einon.
Yes, David Thewlis is an accomplished actor. This whole cast performed wonderfully.

I was still a child at 13 to watched DragonHeart haven't seen the ending on December 2004.
I've been watching this movie since I was 5yrs old girl, I'm 33 now and I still feel my heart break at having to see Draco die...I burst into tears everytime. Even as I'm writing this I'm tearing up, that is what this scene does to me. The way Bowen speaks to Draco while he works on the chains that hold Draco down, it shows how badly he wanted to save him. The desperation on Draco's face when he tells Bowen that he must be slain to truly end Einon's evil and the look on Bowen's face at his actions after throwing the axe and having to slay the only dragon he called friend...it's heartwrenching. Hearing Draco's heartbeat as his life ebbs away...it rings in my ears. The last look he and Bowen share, it was a silent thank you to Bowen for freeing him from, as he put it, "the sacrifice that became his sin." I don't believe that it was coincidence that the stardust took on the shape of Draco, I believe it was a way to show that he had earned his place in the dragon's heaven. When I watched A New Beginning, I wondered how Draco would've reacted to Drake and him learning everything, breathing fire, flying. Would they have talked about Drake's mother? Would Drake have had questions? What would his reaction have been to Drake breathing ice? It's sad that Drake didn't get to know his father and probably didn't even know anything about Draco being his father. He was probably never told any of that. My other thought about Drake and Geoff's story, they should've delved into more in the third movie instead of having Drago. Don't get me wrong I love all the dragonheart movies but I feel like that it left us wanting out more what happened with those two.
This was the first/one of my favourite movies as a 6 year old boy. It might be old fashioned but it instilled an idea of code in honour which never left me, even in this complicated world we live in today.

When I was a kid, hearing Draco telling Bowen to strike had me in tears. Knowing what sacrifice was at such a young age, I felt like I was even friends with Draco with pure imagination. What a film, I can’t compare any other compared to this. Draco is arguably the most coolest and realistic dragon. What a film.
I'm crying, the voice of Draco was of Sean Connery, in Italian Gigi Proietti they died together
What a wonderful underrated film that in my opinion has been all but forgotten I very rarely almost never here this movie get a mention

That really broken my heart, Draco is try to stop his greedy evil(corrupt).
The one thing this movie has taught me is that it's wiser to sacrifice oneself for something old and settled, than someone new and volatile.
Bowen the knight believed Einon, his student, would be a good king in the future, hence he gave his heart and soul - even beseeching the dragon to save the child. But Einon became corrupt, and Bowen's way of coping with this was to blame all dragonkind of evil.
It was until he met Draco that he realized that Einon's evil was an issue of his own psychopathy - not the fault of the Dragonheart. "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" ---- in Einon's case, his villainy manifested rather soon, on account of him quickly discarding all the codes of knighthood that Bowen had painstakingly taught him.
But Draco, a centuries old dragon, was ancient, and had only ever killed humans for defense. What had kept Draco sane and noble? Age, and wisdom.
NOOOO how did i just realize both Draco and the actor who voiced him are dead :((

Id think detonating a nuclear weapons in a room with Einon in it would likely work. He'd be vaporized. He can't be evil without a molecular structure

Well, doesn't Draco say earlier that he longs for death after Bowen rubbed it in he's the last dragon? Or did he grow a will to live once he became friends with Bowen?
@@phillipwalling7470 you could capture him, .chain him up in a room get the bomb with a four or more hour delay, hide it, set it, booby trap the timer and detonator so in case Einon manages to get free or tries to defuse it, it will go off. Four or more hours is enough time to get anyone in or around the castle to get away from blast radius.

I wonder why the part of Bowen removing the chains off of Draco's horns was left out.
It's too bad that Draco's son, Drake, never knew about what had happened to his father.
I don't think anyone had ever told him how it happened, not even Friar Peter or Mansel for that matter.
It would've broke his heart even more than the death of Friar Peter.
If Draco were still alive and he and his son were the last two dragons in existence, there's no doubt that he would've been a good father to Drake raising him all by his own self teaching him the ways of dragons.
I would've loved to see that, especially with Sean Connery and Robby Benson voicing as the two dragons.
Ever since I had first seen Dragonheart: A New Beginning, I had often wondered what Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery had thought about it, that is if they had ever seen it themselves.
