“I think she wants to stay lost.” I like how even as bitter and jaded as he is now, Bowen still had no intention of letting Einon take Kara. He’s buried, but there’s still a Knight of the Old Code hiding in there
im sorry to say but out of all the dragons i seen, Draco still holds the #1 most complex and beautifully animated. it blends so well in the film. it doesnt look like a ps2 game. idk how they pulled it off but my god it is beautifully done.
still my favorite dragon. still my benchmark for how a dragon should look/be, regal powerful and noble, not a monstrous snake lookin thing. and remarkably the cgi still holds up pretty damn well
It was up until this point of the movie that Bowen believed that Draco's heart changed Einon, but Einon was always evil & he was just using Bowen to learn how to fight. Einon knew that Bowen loved him like a son & he used that against him.
3:24 - 3:42 Damn... That moment Bowen realizes he was used by a little monster. All Einon took from Bowen's mentoring was how to be violent, not to fight and protect. This cruel venomous brat was always there; it wasn't Draco's heart that changed him. Like a proto-Joffrey Baratheon.
As Draco said to him earlier both of them were greatly deceived by him. Bowen put his heart and soul trying to teach him, and Draco gave a portion of his heart in an attempt to save others and hoped that he would fair and not be an evil tyrant like his father. I can truly understand what Bowen felt through this, having something similar to this happen to myself.
I love how cunning Einon was in this fight. He realizes he can't simply outfight Bowen. So he resorts to messing with his head, to cause him to lose his self control and fight with reckless anger.
Right? And up until this point of the movie, Bowen believed that Draco's heart changed Einon, but Einon was always evil & he was just using Bowen to learn how to fight. Einon knew that Bowen loved him like a son & he used that against him.
I really like that menacingly look on Draco's face at 4:26. He's like " Hey Einon remember me? Im the dragon who gave a piece of his heart to save your life. And I see you broke your oath to me to rule your kingdom with integrity, and I'm furious! "
I just love David Thewils performances in any movie he is in! It's so sad that he is so underappreciated and that most of his roles are in mediocre or even outright bad movies.
@Baron Bulb Indeed it is! :) However, I always felt as if the movie could have been way better than it turned out to be. It has an amazingly beautiful and poetic premise and some really quotable dialogues, but somehow I feel like it was dumbed down in other places which is kind of a bummer...
Probably because of lack of originality or good writing. Dragon movies are of course nothing new. Theres been quite a bit of them released recently; Dragon rider, Ray and the last Dragon, Wish dragon, etc. Some of those movies like HTTYD, were very successful and popular so dragon movies are probably a little dry at this current moment. Unless writers can come up with an original plot, and story. Writing a movie's plot can be pretty hard.
Well for first, you have to present a good looking dragon and that alone cost a lot of money with CGI and other effects. I would say thats the first point in make or brake scenario.
The beginning of this scene cracks me up because Draco is being such a charmer, for me it shows his softer side that he shows Kara. Kinda makes me wonder what he was saying in his song that he was singing. I love his expression, the way he flirts with Kara and the little movement he makes with his head after his song. It amuses me so such and makes me laugh. He just let himself get so distracted by Kara, I laughed so hard at the look on his face when he says, "uh...I've been distracted..." lmao. It's so sweet at how geninuely touched Draco is when Bowen says he was worried about him, it shows how strong their friendship is. The other part of this scene, the look on Bowen's face at Einon's words and true feelings...it just showed how hurt Bowen was and how betrayed he felt. I can imagine what Draco was feeling and thinking as he was watching the Knight fight Einon. When Einon was saying everything he had kept in for so long and then on top of it, stabbing Bowen in the shoulder...I imagine Draco's blood was boiling. I imagine if not for the bond of the shared heart, that Draco would've bitten off Einon's head or torched him, one or the other. Someone defiantly needs to wipe that smug/cocky look off Einon's face, who better than Draco...I think anyway. The fact that Bowen was feeling more than just the physical wound he had, the betrayal he was feeling made him let his guard down so much that it nearly got him killed. His reaction to Draco appearing in front of him shows just how unaware he truly was. And he unintentionally directed his frustration and anger at Draco because he didn't know how to feel. Bowen would've been dead if not for Draco charging out of the waterfall, he owes Draco his life. When he looks at Bowen, it said, "that's the thanks I get for saving your life?" I feel like they should've delved deeper into the aftermath of the duel. What would Draco have said to Bowen? Would they have talked about what Bowen was feeling after hearing Einon's words? What would Draco have been feeling? Would Draco said anything about Bowen being injured? I've always been curious about it. This is how I am when I watch movies. I get so drawn in and it's like I'm right there with them, going through everything with them and feeling what they would be feeling. I empathize with the characters so much. Especially with Dragonheart, because there is so much that we never find out about Draco and he doesn't open up much about what he feels or thinks. Aside from the campfire scene and the Avalon scene.
Anyway just goes to show of the English accents down that are show a little similar to Celtic accents probably because in those areas Celts mixed with Anglo-Saxons
Dragon Heart is such a cool movie, the scen where they meet always makes me cry because I know how the ending come and yet they have such a beautiful frinedship
It's hilarious and sad at the same time that this movie is from 1996 and it's cgi for Draco still holds up to this day. If you were to put him in a modern film there would be little to no difference compared to the sequels they made to profit of the success of this film or compared to most modern films in general. I miss the days where people cared more about telling stories over making money.
@@Purpleslt93 Could you please also upload a clip of the first waterfall scene when Bowen finally tracks down Draco and chases him through the forest in widescreen?
@@Dman9fp Yeah, except Anakin was misguided, and manipulated by Palpatine into turning against the Jedi, and becoming Darth Vader. Einon, however, was pure evil. He only wanted to learn how to fight. Never cared for what Bowen taught him about the Old Code. Worst: Bowen was made to believe that Draco's heart corrupted Einon. It just revealed Einon's true self.
As a child I've been wondering if Einon was actually evil all along. Before he was resurrected by Draco's heart he showed genuine admiration towards Bowen. He is also naive regarding war and you can see his greed when he "steals" his father's crown. Still I wondered if Einon was never wounded Bowen could have lead him the right path as king. When he was brought to Draco he still used his remaining power to speak the code. When he swore to Draco to be good and better than his father, we saw him actually dying. My interpretation is that the good side of Einon remained dead and only his greedy and evil side was resurrected. I don't know but I would like that version more because it would make Einon a deeper and more tragic character than just the "Hahaha I was evil all along and fooled you" type of character. 😅
Einon simply lusted after her and due to his abusive personality and authority he'd see it as an insult that she'd reject him. The more a person like him is denied, the more he'll fight to get his way. Bowen protected her because as an outcast knight, it gave him a redemptive purpose to honor the code of defending the innocent.

Joffrey was only ever a sadist, Einon was cruel and cunning. He would have won the War of the 5 Kings easily.

Bowen's lesson of
"Fight with your head, not your heart", from the opening scenes, was used against him.
Einon learned nothing from Bowen
Just that Bowan was losing even before Einon started messing with him and also at the end of the movie Einon was the superior fighter.
Sean Connery, Dennis Quaid & David Thewlis. Perfect trio for this film.
"I'm ready for my lesson now, Knight!"
There's just something about the way David delivers that line.
it's because he knows how to portray a villain
this film is better than it gets credit for. even the soundtrack is good

David is a gem. I've loved almost every role he's been in and always will.
He was in season 3 of Fargo and season 1 of The Sandman, and is considered one of the best actors in both.
I never realized until today this same actor played Remus Lupin, one of my favoreite characters in the Harry Potter films. Very different roles.
