Oh my god.... The Nostalgic.... Who else was saying the Old Code along with Bowen and Arthur? And when Draco appeared out of the darkness... WHO ELSE SUCCUMBED TO THE FEELS!?!?!?!?!?! Favourite movie of all time!
I actually think that it was less to do with the spirit of Arthur speaking to Bowen, but rather Draco throwing his voice and casting fire behind the pillar to give off that other worldly glow. Seems like Draco merely did the act as a ploy to get Bowen to remember his oath as a Knight of the old code and it worked :)

The way interpreted this scene was it was Draco that was saying those words, making it seem as if Arthur was saying them to get Bowen to remember his ways. Not sure if that's correct though.
I agree, but I always felt it was implied that it was a trick (not trick but I can't think of the word I'm after) by Draco to help Bowen remember his values, with the yellow background too, I interpretted is Draco speying fire and making look grand so Bowen would believe it more
@@chefboiardeeznutz9881 Oh, I literally just commented above with the exact same thought, I haven't plaigerized you I hadn't seen your comment 😅🤣 But yeah 100% agree, Draco needed to remind Bowen, and earlier Draco even said he knew the Knights Code, so 2+2=6 😜
You can see the emotions in Quaid's face. Fear, doubt, despair, and unsure. His voice raises the more he recite the code and all those emotions melt away. Steeling himself with hope, valor, certainty, and determination. He knew what he must do.
It's just as in this movie. Just as Draco is the last dragon alive, Bowen is the last of the old knights, as the other "knights" are basically greedy bastards making a living out of oppressing humble peasants during King Einon's tyranny. Bowen himself, albeit trained and taught in the way of the old honorable Arthurian knights, has now grown disillusioned, weary and bitter. Prince Einon, his only disciple, has betrayed his teachings and became a corrupt king. Bowen himself even turned to conning villagers with Draco's help. He has lost his old ways, and he knows it... And so he visits Avalon and finds King Arthur's statue and recites the old oath. In doing so, he renews his faith. I didn't know it, but the full version of the oath in the novelization makes it clear that as long as one virtuous and honorable man exists, virtue and honor will exist. This movie is wonderful... it's even better to me now that I understand it fully than when I saw it back as a teen. You'd think there is magic in it but, aside from dragons and rituals by which dragons give their hearts to men so that they may survive, there isn't any. Basically, a man is as just as his own heart. You decide whether to be good or evil, regardless of what you've been taught, you're always free to either follow those codes, or betray them. And no matter how much you may have gone astray from the good path, you may always repent and go back to it.

+JackOfDiamonds I've been writing some of my stories since 2009. I've been quite burned out myself. Some exhausted me so much that I've decided to change them from novels to novellas, and the first one might simply be a short-story. I also have ideas for at least two comic books which I wish to create with a friend, who happens to have a fascination with comics.
Granted that our world is not all that perfect, even still, we have the potential and opportunities to make it so. So long as there are still good men holding back and standing firm against all evils that seek to rob us of such. I know the world is currently against any form of good men we have left in this world. BE STRONG MY BROTHERS, OUR TIME WILL COME AND WE MUST BE READY FOR WHAT CHALLENGES THAT WE WILL FACE. CLEAR EYES, FULL HEART, CAN'T LOSE.
“Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong - that is your oath.” *Slap* That's to remind you.
Theearl444 Yep. Incidentally, both movies featured David Thewlis. But it makes me wonder which version of the code is more accurate, not that it entirely matters as they're both wonderful to listen to.
What I’ve always loved about this scene is how, even as a kid, it made itself understandable. You take this broken man and show, somewhere, he wants to believe like he did once. He still believes.
We all have a code and each of us can have a soul of a knight. But only if you follow the code. Love the people, protect them, save the weak, speak only truth and most of all fight for righteousness.
And now in German: Ein Ritter gelobt die ewige Tapferkeit. Sein Herz kennt nur die Tugend. Sein Schwert verteidigt die Hilflosen. Seine Macht unterstützt die Schwachen. Sein Mund spricht nur die Wahrheit. Sein Zorn zerstört die Bösen.
Un caballero ha de ser valeroso. Su corazón sólo conoce la virtud. Su espada defiende a los desvalidos. Su fuerza sostiene a los debiles. Su palabra sólo dice la verdad. Su ira aniquila al malvado. This is the Despacito knights's code of honor
And now in french: Un chevalier obéit à des valeurs Son coeur ne connaît que la vertu Son épée défend les démunis Son bras protège les faibles Sa bouche méprise le mensonge Sa colère déjoue les tours du malin
And now in Hungarian: Az igaz lovag bátor, Szíve mindig nemes, Kardja az árvát védi, Ereje a gyengét segíti, Mindig igazat szól, Dühe a gonoszokat sújtja.
This has been the best way to remind myself that following an honorable path is never wrong, despite what society says… this code is just beautiful and awesome… thank you Dragon heart u.u
Lo there do I see my father, Lo there do I see my mother, my sisters and my brothers , Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.
2 am here....stay strong knights of the old code. There are a few of us now to pass forward the torch of virtue. But we must not lose hope and continue relentlessly. I have two kids and they both believe in the code. Do your part and never surrender to despair! I believe in all of you
I also believe in you, and your two kids. Valors are the only words to fix a conflict. As sharp as they claim: "Valor"! As Hot as they claim: "Valors"! You only bow when your heart is comforting you into... Virtue... Virtue... Helpless and weak, yet virtue, always. Good, good, to your two kids. Thank you for giving the heart two knew knights.
It's funny how people seem to be out of the realization that this movie takes place in Arthurian lore and that the Knights of the Old Code are the decedent's of the Knights of the Round Table who swore the oath to both King Arthur and Excalibur. Makes me wonder where the sword could be in this timeline unless you count First Knight as a prequel which had Sean Connery as Arthur. Would that make Draco Arthur's reincarnation?
Law Enforcement Job Interview: "Why do you want to be a police officer?" "A knight knows only valor..." They both finish the code in unison. "So, when can you start?"
Best epic movie I've ever seen back when I was young, damn we should start making a game or an anime that are like this movie especially when they are reciting there knight code
Thank you whoever you are I've been looking for this for like 2 years it just brings back memories of when I was like 10 or 13 maybe 12:00 but anyway thank you peace and have an awesome day or night Wherever You Are

@@danielhaire6677 well, seeing as how King Arthur's ghost did not really interact with Bowen other than reciting the code, you might as well say he imagined being spoken to by the ghost.
Have no clue when I first saw this movie. I just remember having a VHS tape of it and watching it over and over as a kid. This moment was particularly impactful to me.
Like Boen I lost sight of my values and was more than a little bitter and frivolous about my way of living. Now some years later, more than I will give number.... I'm returning as best I can with my health what it now is, to come back to living by what I called as a kid 'The Dragon Knights Code'. And getting to see so so many others have respect for 'The Code' in these times is equal parts healing and uplifting.
Every soldier that picks up a gun or who simply goes into any armed force in the world should have this as their mantra, tattoed on their person or branded into their skin for all time
Buchaille01 Absolutely not. If we had that, we'd suddenly have a bunch of zealots thinking they're doing things in the name of good while doing the most horrible things you could imagine. You know, like they CURRENTLY DO. You can't tattoo a set of moral philosophy onto your skin and expect it to be true. It is something you have to work on, every single day of your life. It's a constant struggle to never break, never go against, and that is why almost every single person alive cannot follow one but only a few can.
+Zeithri i don't think so since it stresses "his might upholds the WEAK. His wrath undoes the wicked." zealots who commit war crimes have no care for the weak

Two minutes. Two minutes of video that is better than ANYTHING Hollywood has produced in the past ten years.
Exactly!
Touching... a man finds his soul again.
It's great that Dick Van Dyke spent so much time personally coaching Dennis Quaid on his English accent!
Even after decades when it first came out, this will still be a masterpiece.
“Be without fear in the face of your enemies.
Be brave and upright that God may love thee.
Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death.
Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong - that is your oath.”
*Slap*
That's to remind you.
Nathanielle Crawford Kingdom of Heaven right? ^___^
Theearl444 Yep. Incidentally, both movies featured David Thewlis. But it makes me wonder which version of the code is more accurate, not that it entirely matters as they're both wonderful to listen to.
Nathanielle Crawford Mr. Thewlis eventually went on to play Remus Lupin in Harry Potter and Jason Issacs played Lucius Malfoy.
LatexNLipstick Addict I'm aware of that, but it has nothing to do with what I was commenting on.
Kingdom of heaven is one of my all time favourite movies
I just had a strange dream where this was being recited... It was what brought me here, looking for what was missing from the code.
That's a cool coincidence
Growing up this was one of my favourite movies. Haven't seen It in ages, but never forgotten It.
the first time I saw Dragonheart in the movie theater I weep at the end.
I grew up watching this movie. I remember how this scene made me feel; as if inspiration to live up to the standards the code demands.
2:02 :). His face. So cute :3. I weep probably everytime i see this movie. Very underappreciated movie.
What I’ve always loved about this scene is how, even as a kid, it made itself understandable. You take this broken man and show, somewhere, he wants to believe like he did once. He still believes.
for the past 24 years i will never not smile like a happy idiot at dracos face during this
Agreed
We all have a code and each of us can have a soul of a knight. But only if you follow the code. Love the people, protect them, save the weak, speak only truth and most of all fight for righteousness.
And now in German:
Ein Ritter gelobt die ewige Tapferkeit.
Sein Herz kennt nur die Tugend.
Sein Schwert verteidigt die Hilflosen.
Seine Macht unterstützt die Schwachen.
Sein Mund spricht nur die Wahrheit.
Sein Zorn zerstört die Bösen.
+crimsonbloodbender88 "And now in German" reminded me of The Rocket Man.
I wonder how it sounds in Dutch?
Un caballero ha de ser valeroso.
Su corazón sólo conoce la virtud.
Su espada defiende a los desvalidos.
Su fuerza sostiene a los debiles.
Su palabra sólo dice la verdad.
Su ira aniquila al malvado.
This is the Despacito knights's code of honor
And now in french:
Un chevalier obéit à des valeurs
Son coeur ne connaît que la vertu
Son épée défend les démunis
Son bras protège les faibles
Sa bouche méprise le mensonge
Sa colère déjoue les tours du malin
And now in Hungarian:
Az igaz lovag bátor,
Szíve mindig nemes,
Kardja az árvát védi,
Ereje a gyengét segíti,
Mindig igazat szól,
Dühe a gonoszokat sújtja.
Always appreciate how a creature that likely weighs in at a couple Ron's could so quietly sneak around
Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.
love both of these movies 13th warrior albeit a beowulf reincarnation is also an underrated film.
I stand corrected

Like a Knight as a Soldier is sworn to valor only to his people and his nation.....
We must stay focused brothers, we must stay focus
It's funny how people seem to be out of the realization that this movie takes place in Arthurian lore and that the Knights of the Old Code are the decedent's of the Knights of the Round Table who swore the oath to both King Arthur and Excalibur. Makes me wonder where the sword could be in this timeline unless you count First Knight as a prequel which had Sean Connery as Arthur. Would that make Draco Arthur's reincarnation?
Arthur Pendragon - Arthur of the Dragon. Maybe there was a reason that the Dragon was his sigil
Bowen reciting after Arthur is probably my favorite scene in this movie.
When times are tough, all we have to do is honor the code and look to the stars
Having Sir John Gielgud voice Arthur was a stroke of genius. Such power and gravitas conveyed in so few words.
Bowen was my movie hero as a child looking back on it there was never a better choice
Rest in peace Sean
Law Enforcement Job Interview: "Why do you want to be a police officer?"
"A knight knows only valor..."
They both finish the code in unison.
"So, when can you start?"
Best epic movie I've ever seen back when I was young, damn we should start making a game or an anime that are like this movie especially when they are reciting there knight code
Thank you whoever you are I've been looking for this for like 2 years it just brings back memories of when I was like 10 or 13 maybe 12:00 but anyway thank you peace and have an awesome day or night Wherever You Are
A man feeling lost and disillusioned...finds his way again.
A timeless tale. A righteous tale.
this is the best scene in the whole movie. i live and die by this.
Now in spanish!
Un caballero jura valor
Su corazón sólo conoce la virtud
Su espada defiende al indefenso
Su fuerza sostiene al afligido
Su palabra sólo habla verdad
*Su ira deshace la maldad!*
Dude, I just put it through Google translate, and with a few lines being the same as the original, most of it is kinda funny
Buena esa hermano 🔥👌
rest in peace arthur pendragon
Bowen: You spoke the words! You said them from your heart!
Einon: I only spit them out because I couldn't stomache them!
+TheReaverOfDarkness From his heart? Not quite.
David Thewlis in his younger years. Excellent actor too.
@@AHSears And highly underrated.
@@TheReaverOfDarkness His performance in Harry Potter was my favourite.
@@AHSears One of his best!
We need codes like this back and taught to our children.
RIP Sean Connery, Draco was the first dragon I ever saw as a child. I feel like if I ever heard the voice of a dragon, Connery’s would have been it.
They need to make more movies with friendly dragons just like Draco! I watched the movie 1998 on VHS the first time, and ever since I love it!
This bring me so much comfort every single time that I hear it
Rest In Peace Sean Connery😢 I’ll keep my oath. Swore to Valor
This Code Should Belong To Anyone Who Is In Authority. With The World In Turmoil Over The Last 24 Months, It's Needs Hope, Prayer & Leadership.
A code that everyone should live by!
A code I strive to live by!
Chivalry isn't dead...
It's just been forgotten for too long!
I love how Bowen who has not had faith in anything or anybody for so long gets that back by remembering his oath as a knight
And being reminded of it by the spirit of the code's founder, King Arthur Pendragon.
@@danielhaire6677 well, seeing as how King Arthur's ghost did not really interact with Bowen other than reciting the code, you might as well say he imagined being spoken to by the ghost.
騎士は勇気を旨とし
その心を善に捧げ
剣は虐げられた者を守り
その力は弱き者を助け
その言葉は真実のみを語り
その怒りは悪を打ちのめす
Have no clue when I first saw this movie. I just remember having a VHS tape of it and watching it over and over as a kid. This moment was particularly impactful to me.
After all this time, this scene is still the best piece of media I’ve e ever seen.
This is the code I live by, the knight I swore to live by. I hope to one day raise my son on the same code.
Still such a powerful scene when Bowen's nihilism gave way to honor and purpose again
I know I’ve already comment but MAN this movie always give me chills such a awesome movie not afraid to admit but I cried during the end
Bowen (Quade) being re-sworn by Arthur (Connery, who of course played Arthur in "First Knight"
Classic!
And I too endeavor to live by the Old Code
One of the few movies that brings me to tears every time i watch it, like clockwork.
This movie and especially this scene has so much influence on me! Everytime you feel scared or weak just say to yourself: a Knight is sworn to valor!
Chivalry, Honor, Valor, Respect, Love, Care, Courage, Bravery, Loyalty, Wisdom. My oath to GOD and The Lords and Ladies in like mindedness.
Best part of the movie.
Every soldier that picks up a gun or who simply goes into any armed force in the world should have this as their mantra, tattoed on their person or branded into their skin for all time
Buchaille01
Absolutely not.
His wrath undoes the wicked."
zealots who commit war crimes have no care for the weak
+Buchaille01 Worst idea ever.
+Zeithri Beats dropping bombs on kids from miles above and calling it collateral damage.
Cap America lol brother Gilbert
A knight is sworn to valour.
One of the most moving scenes of the age.
After 20 years... these films of old have something modern movies does not - Heart.
one of the best movies ever made
