@@puterboy2 Toothless is from a cartoon. My post meant dragons in live action films. It's much easier to make a good dragon in a cartoon. I like Verminthrax because it's 40 years old and still looks good.
Draco was the smartest and most noble character in the film. He knew what had to be done and was willing a sacrifice his life for it. One of the most memorable dragons in film history.
I can't think of any memorable dragons in film history besides him. Honestly, I'm trying, can you help me out with a few examples? Serious question lol
"And in the days following Draco's sacrifice, Bowen and Kara led the people in a time of justice and brotherhood. As I remember it now, those were golden years warmed by an unworldly light. And when things became the most difficult, Draco's star shown more brightly for all of us who knew where to look."
I remember seeing this movie in the theater, not a dry eye among anyone there, including the adults! Watched all the direct to dvd sequels, but this one is still the best in my opinion.
It is unfortunate, but the sequels pale in comparison to this one... the cgi was amazing for it's time and the soundtrack... you can actually believe in god's bless upon humanity when you listen to it.
Saw this movie for the first time in 2012 when I was 13. I remember how disappointed I was at how wicked Einon was and how much I wished he had chosen to be just like Bowen. What I really appreciated though was how much it emphasized doing what’s right even if it’s at a major cost to oneself and how wrong and dangerous greed and selfishness can be.
This series never fails to make me cry this has been my 1# favorite movie for over 20 years I have always loved dragons and this series has broken my heart but teaches so many lessons these movies deserve so much more credit than they get I remember when I was a little girl, how the other girls would play dress up or with dolls I’d play with a Draco figurine and other dragon toys this movie though never fails to make me cry and lighten up my heart it truly deserves soooo much more credit
In a way, Draco sacrificing himself was the only way to earn his place among the stars. Enian would live as long as Draco lived, meaning he was practically immortal and would terrorize the land everywhere he walked. You could say that you could lock him away in chains or just mutilate him until he couldnt move, but every ounce of pain he feels, Draco would feel. He would always be a threat if ever unleashed or if he escaped. The weight of guilt and fear would be heavy on Draco's kind heart, it would be Hell to keep living. On top of that, it would be a selfish act that would prevent Draco from ever entering heaven. His soul was already at stake for saving an evil human, but this one act would redeem him and grant him eternal peace and rest. Not many dragons get to go to the stars. This truly was the only way to vanquish Enian's evil and save Draco's soul, and that's what's so freaking sad to me. No chance for Draco to live and spread his wisdom and compassion. He was damned the moment he shared his heart with that wretched vile boy, he knew how evil Enian was and took a chance, and his trust and oath was betrayed. Humans suck.
They could have just like... beheaded the dude. He couldn't "die", but he could obviously be damaged and injured. If they beheaded him and buried him somewhere then Draco would still get to live.
The sound of Draco's heartbeat, was the thing that hurt me the most. Hearing and knowing, every beat is getting slower, and then... Stops. And as someone whom has experienced loss, too many times to count, in my life. This scenes weight is heavier for me now, than when I first watched this movie.
Man, I remember this scene looking and going completely differently. In my head it was a dark scene where the dragon visibly grins as he opens his chest.
It's 2024 and this movie is still standing as the 2nd best dragon movie ever made (rein of fire 1st). How have they never made another great dragon movie since them
How are not more people acknowledging this masterpiece of a film score by Randy Edelman?! Everyone talks about Draco or Connery, while what really levels up the quality of this scene (in fact, this movie) is its *music*! There have been few equivalents in movie soundtrack history that encapsulate so divinely both melody and orchestration. For show entertainment geekies out there, this music piece has in fact had such an effect on people that even magician David Coperfield used it in his show as a big finale music several years back!
Amazing that our dear King Einon would go on to become Professor Lupin 8 years later and be present in the rest of the Harry Potter movies . This movie was my introduction the David Thewlis . He is a wonderful actor .
Probably the best movie Rob Cohen ever made. The problem with today's politically correct films is none of them have heart. One feels no more for the characters than scientist feels for the organisms viewed through microscopic examination of a drop of water.
It's funny I know all of these actors in here when I was a young girl watching this movie I didn't know any of them at all now I do and R.I.P Sean Connery he will always be in my heart
When I was younger, i used to enjoy coming up with music video ideas with movies and video games. One that I came up with for this scene was timing Three Doors Down - Back to Me, when the axe makes contact with Dracos heart. I understand it may not be the right song, not sad/slow/soft enough; but the reason for the song was the beginning "I have poured out my heart. Layed it right here for you. And I've tried so hard, thats the best that I can do. Please understand I am not who I was. You used to be all that I had..." For anyone who reads this, feel free to try it out if you manage to, and if you have any other ideas for a different song, please feel free to leave a comment and to mention when would be the right time the song should start at a point in the scene. I also encourage anyone to try this out with any song and movie/video game of any genre; another one I did was the scene from the video game Gears of War 2 when the character Dom finds his wife Maria. As soon as that cutscene starts, I play Here Without You - Three Doors Down; the length goes perfectly from start to finish because as the the scene ends and fades to black, the song ends with a fade. If you start coming up with stuff like this, have fun!!!!
Amazing so many peoples remeber this movie. It was my children hood. So mutch memories. Realy nice movie with nice story. I like how thay make some dragon scenes funny, but in same way buautiful story.
That music always gets me. Don't know why, but it always tears me up. Also it is a travesty, that Sean Connery never got more voice acting roles. Or never took them. His voice is so good.
Given how easily Bowen overpowers Einon, I suddenly wonder if they could have just physically restrainted him, throw him in the dungeons, chained to a wall, neutralizing him as a king and still kept Draco alive.
I think at some point, he would have found a way to escape with the aid of a few supporters. Eventually, another large battle would take place and Draco would still have to die. He was the last of his kind, and thus it would have been an agonizing existence should he be forced to live on.
