- Join me on the journey of smoky blend over the years this is been one of the most asked after tutorials, and I’ve taught this in so many different ways even here I have at least three different tutorials, there is no right or wrong way how to create this unique look, I have watched so many tutorials here on RUclips and they are all very different.
I would always say watches many tutorials on this technique as you can and takeaway what feels natural to you so please enjoy this tutorial it’s a long one but I truly hope that you take something from it that will help you get the perfect blend in your future projects.

I'd like to see a stencil design where the mirror used to be and also on the inset area of the doors. OR...you could make a faux mirror with one of those spray paints!

JMM ... Thank you for showing us the entire process of paint choices & blending techniques... Seeing it done gives us a solid base -- wet the brush/ round blending strokes/ dry brush to smooth & roll between colors/ stand back & look / be bold & choose a strong eye catching focus color if needed ...etc.... Oh , distressing techniques & a good wax ! You're hard work gives you a truly bespoke piece and your fans will say , " We'll , I just followed JMM's good advice !"

Wahou! What a lovely color combination! It was so courageous to add the red and Barcelona!....
If I want to avoid the distress effect while blending, what would you advise? Do you think waxing a base coat of middle tone blue before blending would prevent the wood to show through?
I am so super sorry I missed this comment and it’s a great question my answer probably would be layout all of your blending after your canvas coat laying down your colours more or less as a practice run where you want them to be once you feel happy with this and it may be a little patchy but wax it leave it overnight and start all over again in the same places the results can be amazing especially with the depth of colour 😊
