    Wonderful to see an expert at work. I went off brandy after it made me very ill on my 21st birthday. Whisky and whiskey are my go-to spirits now... 40 years later!

      I in no way can be considered to know a lot about brandy. I use it in cocktails mainly, but I do have six special drops of which these are two. My main reason for this review was to show how stunning the Australian XO brandy is. There are a number of Australian whiskies but I have yet to come across one that is a) any good and b) priced realistically. But we make damn fine brandy!!!

      This is a question that I cannot answer. As I live in Australia I know little about American liquor outlets other than those in Terre Haute where my family lives, and then I have only gone looking for American booze, rather than Australian.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +1

      To the best of my knowledge, cognacs are all natural, most of the colour coming from the barrel. However some distillers might be more underhanded, but I am sure the main players would not. Even in Scotland some distillers add colouring, mainly using caramel.

    • @aubs400
      @aubs400 2 года назад +1

      Cognacs regularly use colouring and flavouring- the big names especially. It's not considered a bad thing in Cognac making per se. That's another difference with Armagnac, in which most producers would not do this

    Seems i found a fellow connoisseur, ive been drinking an Australian brand of Brandy called Black Bottle, Grape distilled 2 years in oak its smooth, tasty with vanilla hints & smells amazing, why is it that i can drink 350mls of straight Brandy and feel absolutely fine, but if i drink 200mls of whiskey im head first in the toilet regretting my decisions? Is it because Brandy isnt as harsh on the body/liver as Brandy?

    Does brandy ,whiskey age in the bottle

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  Год назад

      A very interesting question. Spirits change very little in the bottle provided the seal is tight. With the addition of air as the spirit level goes down very minor changes are made, but not enough to affect the overall flavour and taste. The bottom line I believe is that brandy and whisky do not change in the bottle.

    Napoleon between vsop and xo ?

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  Год назад

      I am not an expert on brandy, but by my understanding, Napoleon Brandy is a recently introduced rating. XO used to mean at least 6 years old but that has now been boosted to 10 years, and Napoleon has taken over the 6yo rating. The French are masters of making their own rules!
