Nice ML, it will definitely cost 1/3 of that if you do it all you self. I have a ML430 that I have been doing a lot of work to. The ML definitely makes you work for the end goal of reliabilty, but the repairs are usually well documented online and straight forward. This probably doesn't matter anymore, but you can buy a Seal Kit for the PS rack that is ML55 specific. It is made by Kotek. I am an MB mechanic by trade, and have done all the jobs you listed on my own ML55, myself. The moral of the story is: Do the work yourself! It's not as hard as you think. Its actually a relatively easy car to work on.
Thanks for the heads up! I wish I had know about that kit before I paid to have the rack removed and replaced twice to rebuild. Yikes. Most everything else has been somewhat easy provided you gave the right tools.
@@HacktivistMechanic Yikes is right. Did you ever resolve the steering rack issue? it can be a tricky one. But that's why I gave you my email address so you could ask beforehand whenever you have a problem!!
As a some one that owns 2 MLs check the power steering seals before you replace everything it’s generally a seal or hose that breaks and those are a lot cheaper than replacing the power steering pump.
@@HacktivistMechanic Glad to help the ML owners community is tight so it’s worth while to join the ML owners pages on Facebook. Also I personally would appreciate some video on the valve cover gaskets as that’s I job I have in my near future on my ML500.
@@morganwin350 I should be tackling it pretty soon but in the meantime here’s the same job I did on my w210 E55 which is a very similar engine. ruclips.net/video/J3UY7RpYB-o/видео.html
Haha welcome to ML55 ownership. Since buying mine for $3500, I've got over 10k into it. All fluids change, AAM reprogram, rear struts, control arms, driveshaft u joint, power steering pump, leak in the rack which is usually a little drain plug that falls out, crank position sensor, new brembo brakes, kumho ecsta tires, new drivers side cup holder, assorted body work. And the truck had under 50k miles on it when I bought it. Even with all that said, I still love the truck and now she's a driver!! Good luck on your ML journey mate!!
I'm from Brazil. I have an ml55 2001 for 10 years. I like the car. Mine is with 60000 miles and it didn't give these problems of the car you bought. I just had a problem with the alarm control that stopped working and from time to time it crashes again. Good luck there with yours. Tell us how the car looked after repairs!
These are typical AMG issues for the era except the rack and pinion leak (hopefully, you'll be able to source one). You can address most of these slowly over a year or two and it'll give you good content in the future. Looking forward to it!
I’ve already started on the front suspension work and brakes. Gonna have to take it back to the shop to do some of the harder stuff but hoping to have it sorted out in the next week or so.
DAMN. sounds like the car is basically totaled out. you gotta do a lot of that work yourself or else I would just punt and sell it and try to recoup as much of purchase price as possible

Did you do all that work yourself? That's a big list. I'm about to do a water pump and eventually valve cover gaskets on mine. Stay tuned.
Yes I did all the work. Make sure you get OEM valve cover gaskets, I got some Fel Pros at first and they were trash, leaked right away.

@@Johnathan_Waters I did about 6 months ago. Cost me a small fortune but have no issues since.

These are the comments I’m searching for. Thanks! When I get to the idler pulley and valve cover gaskets I’ll inspect the power steering pump more.

Doubt I’ll be able to flip for anything decent and I actually like the truck so gonna attempt to do what I can and drive it for awhile.
