Have a friend who bought an Audi. His wife drives a Kia which needed to be towed. The tow truck driver pulled up to the Audi not the Kia expecting it to be that one. He joked to my friend he'd see him soon to collect the Audi.
Basically Thomas you have illustrated why one should never buy a used luxury car out of manufacturers warranty unless you have lots of spare cash. The days of the bullet proof reliability Mercedes has well gone and Audi have always been a gamble used especially as regards switches, sensors and warning lights. Basically Audi have admitted that the original wishbones were not fit for purpose so they should have contributed. You have now given them the negative publicity they deserve especially their stuck up dealers in their flashy showrooms.
Great video and really cool car! I’m sad to see the current direction of the interior design at Audi. Your car and previous year models had one of the best interiors IMO.
Your honesty is so comfortable and generates trust, even when you test drive cars in your usual role. Your story also shows the importance of honesty as a seller.
Thanks for sharing , was always wondering what car you actually owned. Appreciate the honesty!!! If you do change car please make the follow up car video!!!
@@autogefuehlyour best bet might be the Polestar 6, that is about the only brand has pretty good reliability across all models and of course you don’t have the dealers issue. The upcoming 6 is supposed to be sold out ahead of its 2026 launch though. BMW’s outgoing electric mini headed up the reliability charts in the UK, perhaps an interim press car shuttle option.
You actually "do what you preach": recommending seats without animal leather in ALL your videos and choosing a car without leather seats in the personal car. Massive RESPECT! Glad to be part of the "Autogefuehl family"
Thanks so much! Was the best choice at that point in availability, today's best choice would be a new 4 Series Convertible without M Sport pack actually
Modern car paints are now all water-based rather than oil based. As water-based paints are much softer, it makes them prone to chipping. All you can really do is get the front covered in a clear PPF stone guard wrap to help prevent further damage. Nice car, though 👍
I stopped buying Audis years ago. The last one was an sq7 which had a recall. The customer service was so poor that I just rejected the vehicle. It was far worse than what you experienced. From uk.
28:00 I guess dealerships and insurance companies work the same all across the globe. I thought it was just a South African thing. I bought a Golf 7 last year and I have had a few issues with it and many fights with VW dealerships and insurance companies.
Really crappy to hear about his experience. Fortunately my used SQ5 dealer experience was pretty good, it’s the build quality and material choice of the cars these days that have me more upset.
Governments around the world needs to mandate the implementation of physical wheels, buttons, knobs for HVAC in all cars. Why is it acceptable that you’d need to take your eyes off the road for a few seconds to even change the temperature? Completely agree with Thomas; newer cars are doing it wrong. Make cars great “again”
Thanks for sharing - I hope Audi takes note and follows up. Every manufacturer should be forced to have a customer care department that actually cares for the customer, rather than tries to maximise company profits. I had an even worse experience with my approved used Mercedes SL500 (I won’t relive the awful emotions by going into detail - you could see here how Thomas was suffering just by retelling his story). All motoring journalists should report more on the after sales experience, rather than describing in great detail how a press-prepared car corners like a racing car (thankfully something that Thomas is not guilty of).
Audi's board members should watch this video. Same issue here in S. Korea. People love Audi cars but hate Audi Korea's sales policy and Audi's service is horrible. Audi should listen to customers and improve their warranty and service policy.
I have a 2017 A4 and I've also noticed how the clear coat and paint are so thin and prone to chips and scratches... and it's even more noticeable on my car because it's black 🤦🏻♂️
Not quite, it seems like a genius idea, but you have to put wires inside the seat belt and sooner or later wires will break as you bend your seat belt. Such king of solutions prone to failures.
3y ago I had a Renault Zoe II. It had a very similar AC-Button-Setup. Digital screen in the middle an the galvanised button around it. Plus some buttons for Seat heating and stuff like kind of piano keys. This was just perfect. Now in my newer UFO Ioniq 6 there is very much covered by a command in the screen which is much more complicated than it needed to be. Man, I miss those buttons. 😅 Your seats look very comfy. On my channel I have always been inspired by your videos To have a base of a good RUclips, I congratulate you on your new acquisition, greetings from Chile
You're my favourite automotive reviewer, Thomas. For over ten years now, I think. The quality of your content is unmatched. I'm so glad I found you, I'm so glad to be a fan, and I'm excited for the future of your channel. By the way, such a beautiful car (and a very beautiful spouse) you have. Both very fitting for you. 😊 And the blue is such a nice touch; if only its quality lived up to yours. 😂 A few years ago, I was in the market for one of your car's closest competitors, but opted for something else I'm very happy with, a direct competitor to the Audi A6. Funny enough, I went back to rewatch your review of it before buying, just to be sure. You were my virtual consultant, in a way. 😂
Great video, thanks for sharing. The S5 is always a solid choice, I owned an A4 Allroad 3.0 (from 2019 to 2023) of the same generation A4/A5 and I loved it, especially the drivetrain and the interior still with physical knobs and buttons
Nice car!, have to say this period of Audis were the best looking, I have the new A3, but the A3 from this period looks so much more clean and good. Also paint is very bad on the A3, lots of chips on the front for me aswell.
That's rubbish not doing warranty work at another dealer. I bought a used Audi in Frankfurt and had significant used car warranty work done at a dealer in UK no questions asked... Should have reported that dealer to Audi customer service and gone to another dealer, even if you could persuade them to do the work they will just muck you around if it's that kind of d.h. dealer. And Audi need to get their effing act together if the use a 3rd party warranty company that won't accept the Audi dealers diag without video proof, that's crazy.....
Your S5 is very nice ! You have customer service issues with every car brand. I have a friend who had issues with Mercedes, he told me "no more Mercedes cars". As a Frenchman, I appreciate your mum's Citroën 2CV.
What a nice choice! I got myself Seapang blue a5 but pre 2017 facelift and i love it. Also i see u got one of the rarer ones with ventilated seats. Very nice!
Totally agree with the last part, same experience with my Audi e-tron in Sydney, Australia, although they have been fixing my car for free, but constantly sits in the workshop for months and worst customer service. Love my car but I relate exact customer experience.
Unfortunately this is not just an "Audi" thing, it's a "dealership attitude/business model/ staff motivation/ training" issue that I have experienced across multiple brands from Range Rover and Porsche to Jeep and GM...The whole system from the bartering over the price like we are in a medieval market to the lack of transparency and poorly trained staff who often know less about the cars than the owners needs to be "disrupted" to make the car owning and maintenance experience match the marketing and image they project.
Thanks for sharing. I like Audi, but somehow I always keeping buying BMWs. Owned an E46, then an F30. Thought I'll upgrade to G20, but had to go with a U11(family). But I still bought an old E46 coupe to go with it 🙂 (some videos on my rudimentary RUclips channel)
Very interesting seeing your personal cars & bikes history 🙂👌 Happy for you and Lea ❤. As for your Audi… aah 🙈 there are a lot of reasons why this brand is always on the last places of reliability & customer satisfaction surveys. You should know this 😉
Beautiful car, I love your convertible! Just want to say that I have a 2023 Q7 and a 2023 Tiguan Rline. My personal experience has been that even though these are related products I have received better customer service when at the Volkswagen dealership. Just my humble opinion.
Thank you for honest info about your experiences, much appreciated!! Perfectly shows reviewing a new car for a week and living with it for 2+ years (especially after warranty) can bring very different conclusions.
BMW G20 owner here... Well, at least you did not get a mercedes!!! 😜 I guess it is nice that we get sensatec here in the US. Though I love the cloth seats offered in the european markets as well...
In the Uk we would say you’ve had a ‘good rant’….. 😂 but you’re totally allowed to be disappointed. I’ve never owned an Audi, I’ve been in BMW for years now. However I’ve ordered a golf R 8.5 in part from watching your video on the facelifted R And GTI. So I hope it lives up to my expectations. :-) great video. Keep up the good work.
Thomas, always enjoyed your reviews of new cars. This insight into long term reliability is really refreshing. maybe you can consider doing more of this type of videos
I had the A7 and externally is amazing (car was new 2019 model 50tdi) , but internally the dashboard is rattling which drive me crazy , and the engine had an issue as well (was changed the top side of the engine 2 times in Audi warrranty , and they fixed the dashboard noise as well by adding some tape in between the joints of the plastics ) after that was ok , and I still think that A7 is the best looking Audi externally . And now I switched to A8 55TFSI and to be honest , the quality inside is a huge difference , dashboard is better , seats are wayyy more comfortable and the engine is a beast , once you are inside is totally different , and even if A7 is looking better on outside I would not trade A8 for A7 because of the inside difference of quality (this one has more options as well ) Waiting to the new A7 which I think will be ❤
I have the same experience all the time even with my Porsches, many imperfections, cracking sounds, material problems, nonsenses, and no support, same customer experience in most cases, no one cares. I have a lot of short videos you will laugh at when you see them, impossible things at a brand like this, but it is true. I like the brand as you like Audi, but I am disappointed totally. Do you think their HQ will care if somebody sends them videos, or they care after you launch a video of this kind?
😅 yes is always about the people ! Know your feeling , had my share with dealerships 😅 as well , doesn’t really mater the car manufacture , mostly are the people that you interact with Great job with the videos , keep going 👌🏻
Thank you both for a great inside video 😊👌 Keep up the good work on the best car reviewer channel on YT🙏 The “service” level and warranty time from the old German car manufacturers are so bad. And that will be a big challenge for them going forward (market wise) I have a Mercedes EQC400 at the moment and I am going back to Tesla next year 💨
US, M, 1991: 1992 Buick Skylark - used 2005 Hyundai Elantra - used 2002 BMW 330Ci - used 2012 Hyundai Sonata - new 2018 Honda Accord sport - new 2023 Toyota GR86 - new 2024 Nissan Z - new I have always loved me the AUDI A5 tho!
I like that your personal car reflects what you like and have criticised on other cars you review. E.g Thomas Blue color, No animal skin interior, Real buttons on the steering wheel, No gloss black trim, No laggy infotainment system, Wired charging connection etc. I don’t typically see this level of consistency from a few other car journalists/reviewers. Thank you for sharing your horror story about the car as well. Hopefully everything goes well from now with your new car and your future purchases. Great video as always.
Love this model S5, the coupe is a beautiful design. Agree on the interior and the HVAC controls, touchscreen controls are just cheap for the manufacturer
You've probably already seen at this point, but Bruno Sacco just passed away. He was the lead designer of some of Mercedes's greatest cars, including the 123, 124, 126, and 210. How appropriate that this video celebrates the W123, arguably the best car they ever built! The red coupe at the start of the video is gorgeous. I would've guessed that you currently drive either an Audi or BMW. I didn't expect a convertible though!
Great video Thomas. I also owned an S5 Cabrio ( 2017 brand new) had to sell it in 2019. Lovely car and will reconsider buying one again - But you’re absolutely correct about the dealer experiences… they can be a nightmare and the bureaucracy is horrible. Over time this car and engine will become a classic with all the EV and hybrid rubbish now going on ..
Thanks for such an interesting and honest review 🙏 It’s an absolutely gorgeous looking car and it looks fabulous in Thomas blue! I completely agree about modern cars being overblown with technology when it’s not necessary. It’s like when Jeff Goldblum voices his concerns about the idea of man made dinosaurs in Jurassic Park when he says ‘Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn't Stop To Think If They Should’. Because they can put climate controls on a touchscreen doesn’t mean they should! I’m sorry to hear about your problems and I fear this is something that will only get worse with the a new cars with so much technology (and what when they fail and they can’t upgrade them anymore as they only upgrade the newer software versions?). Hopefully this is a phase the car makers are going through and they will start to step back from using technology in the way they are at the moment some day.
Congratulations Thomas on your new car. It looks beautiful. Really fascinating to hear of your motoring history. Some very classy motors indeed. Disappointing about the problems you experienced. My 2018 Tucson with similar mileage has no faults at all. Audi needs to up its game as your experience sounds like a nightmare, especially an "Approved Audi". Happy motoring! 😀

Yes, Audi Service sucks a lot. Actually the entire Service network of VW Group sucks a lot. (including in Romania) I am not using official service network anymore because I was getiting angry almost all the time even for easy checks. Huge price difference for anything. Also, cars are more nice in the pictures, the details are a lot chep for very expensive cars.

Have a friend who bought an Audi. His wife drives a Kia which needed to be towed. The tow truck driver pulled up to the Audi not the Kia expecting it to be that one. He joked to my friend he'd see him soon to collect the Audi.
29:58 That's why the VW group is going bankrupt.
I think the same!
I've had very similar experience with VW and I'm never going back. They should go bankrupt based on their poor customer experience
The reason I would never consider an Audi.
Lexus all the way.
Great video and really cool car! I’m sad to see the current direction of the interior design at Audi. Your car and previous year models had one of the best interiors IMO.
cheers! indeed
Finally someone who understands the pain of owning a used German car 😅
Your honesty is so comfortable and generates trust, even when you test drive cars in your usual role. Your story also shows the importance of honesty as a seller.
thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing , was always wondering what car you actually owned. Appreciate the honesty!!! If you do change car please make the follow up car video!!!
yes of course we will ! Lea wants to have an EV so we might need to decision help from you guys ;-)
@@autogefuehlSteer her away from hash tag BS buttons! 😊
Thanks interesting!
Nice car, though 👍
yeah good idea, when buying and keeping new that should be considered
Totally agreed about the climate dials. All I need is a climate dial and a volume knob as physical buttons in the centre console.
Wow I hope someone at Audi watches this, that dealership experience for a 50k executive car is insane.
I really like the review from you two. Congratulations on your marriage 🎂
Lia wondering where her 911 cabriolet is?... Be strong Lia, we love you and hug you with all our hearts.
actually, she wants an EV - I am considering 😉
@@autogefuehl Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
@@autogefuehl good wifey! 😀
Any further thoughts which it will be?
Well I d love an BMW i7 but she wants a Tesla Model 3 - she's so lovely and modest.
I live in the USA and finding a lovely and modest woman is going extinct. Maybe I should visit Germany to find a wife.
Massive thumbs up for picking a nice color, both inside and out, and a convertible. There are so many generic looking Audis out there...
Audi's board members should watch this video. Same issue here in S. Korea. People love Audi cars but hate Audi Korea's sales policy and Audi's service is horrible. Audi should listen to customers and improve their warranty and service policy.
And I thought that only in Poland Audi treats customers like this, but I see that our neighbors from Germany have the same 😂
Beautiful car Thomas, congratulations
The man, the myth, the legend! Finally!
I think Leah has a good impact on Thomas! He's coming out of his shell!
Great video and history!
I have a 2017 A4 and I've also noticed how the clear coat and paint are so thin and prone to chips and scratches... and it's even more noticeable on my car because it's black 🤦🏻♂️
You deserve to have 1m subscribers. I am sure you will get there soon. Keep up the fabulous work ☺️
Microphone in the seatbelt is a genius idea, I never knew cars had that, now I think all cars should have it.
Not quite, it seems like a genius idea, but you have to put wires inside the seat belt and sooner or later wires will break as you bend your seat belt. Such king of solutions prone to failures.
Very suitable: a gentlemen’s vehicle for the gentleman you are 🎉
highly appreciated my friend !
Your seats look very comfy.
Liebe Grüße aus Hessen 🙏🏻
Best greetings 😎
On my channel I have always been inspired by your videos To have a base of a good RUclips, I congratulate you on your new acquisition, greetings from Chile
2:12: what a beautiful afro did you wear that time! 😀
🤣
Awesome car imo 🔥🔥
Your story shows that third party warranties are a waste of money. Try making a genuine claim and prepare for a battle and a lot of stress.
A cab in Germany? Guess you won't be able to use it much longer this season.
the front screen pushes away the rain when the top is open 😁
Brilliant car. Have a 2018 pre opf S4 Avant and absolutely love this engine too. Perfect balance of sound, engagement and of course fun!
Nice insight Thomas thanks
🙏
Interesting that Thomas doesn’t age !
No child, no cigarettes... 😅
I would love to own a C63s convertible some day! But I won't trade in my M340i touring, love that car.
Whatever my new car will be it will be in thomas blue 💙
😎
What a nice choice! I got myself Seapang blue a5 but pre 2017 facelift and i love it. Also i see u got one of the rarer ones with ventilated seats. Very nice!
cool =)
Great video. The best car reviewer on the planet!
thanks so much my friend !
I fully agree on the climate unit
Thanls for sharing, your experience with warranty is not unique.
It's very you. Keep it.
Money comes money goes, good and nice cars don't.
Great video, always great to see the “behind the wheels’ No pun intended 😅
cheers m8 =)
Congratulations 🎉
Thank you for honest info about your experiences, much appreciated!! Perfectly shows reviewing a new car for a week and living with it for 2+ years (especially after warranty) can bring very different conclusions.
Awesome Vehicle!!
I think the paint problem is common among new cars. Due the strict environment regulations 😢
And thanks for your honest opinion.
BMW G20 owner here... Well, at least you did not get a mercedes!!! 😜 I guess it is nice that we get sensatec here in the US. Though I love the cloth seats offered in the european markets as well...
Thomas you are a legend!!!! I totally agree with you about the phone connectivity/plug in/real dials etc etc peak cars 2018 - 2020
I always thought you’re driving something crazy being such a huge channel, but an affordable, stylish and sporty car is pretty awesome
Beautiful story, beautiful vehicles 🙂
Great video again and no need for fake exhaust police👍
👍
In the Uk we would say you’ve had a ‘good rant’….. 😂 but you’re totally allowed to be disappointed. I’ve never owned an Audi, I’ve been in BMW for years now. However I’ve ordered a golf R 8.5 in part from watching your video on the facelifted R And GTI. So I hope it lives up to my expectations. :-) great video. Keep up the good work.
very good!
Time to get this channel to 1 million subscribers.
with your help! :)
Thomas, always enjoyed your reviews of new cars. This insight into long term reliability is really refreshing. maybe you can consider doing more of this type of videos
highly appreciated !
Thank you for taking us on your car journey! Love this video, big fan 🙌🏾
thanks for staying with us !
And now I switched to A8 55TFSI and to be honest , the quality inside is a huge difference , dashboard is better , seats are wayyy more comfortable and the engine is a beast , once you are inside is totally different , and even if A7 is looking better on outside I would not trade A8 for A7 because of the inside difference of quality (this one has more options as well )
Waiting to the new A7 which I think will be ❤
I have the same experience all the time even with my Porsches, many imperfections, cracking sounds, material problems, nonsenses, and no support, same customer experience in most cases, no one cares.
Know your feeling , had my share with dealerships 😅 as well , doesn’t really mater the car manufacture , mostly are the people that you interact with
Great job with the videos , keep going 👌🏻
You’re a classy mf Thomas!
🙌
Thank you both for a great inside video 😊👌
Keep up the good work on the best car reviewer channel on YT🙏
The “service” level and warranty time from the old German car manufacturers are so bad. And that will be a big challenge for them going forward (market wise)
I have a Mercedes EQC400 at the moment and I am going back to Tesla next year 💨
Cheers m8 !!
US, M, 1991:
1992 Buick Skylark - used
2005 Hyundai Elantra - used
2002 BMW 330Ci - used
2012 Hyundai Sonata - new
2018 Honda Accord sport - new
2023 Toyota GR86 - new
2024 Nissan Z - new
I have always loved me the AUDI A5 tho!
Agree on the interior and the HVAC controls, touchscreen controls are just cheap for the manufacturer
...but the end of the video has definitely put me off getting one..
What a great video. Very special and extremely interesting. Btw. Some time ago I listed which and how many cars I had so far. I was shocked..🙈😉
cheers !
💙 Loving your S5 Thomas ... The best Audi interior I have ever seen ... Audi hire this man for design team & Your new coming F1 team 😁
Lovely car and will reconsider buying one again -
But you’re absolutely correct about the dealer experiences… they can be a nightmare and the bureaucracy is horrible.
Hello Thomas! Can't imagine you own an Audi S5! Really nice vehicle. My family own an Audi A4 B9 Avant (2018), there's one issue with our vehicle that when I change the ambient lighting colour, sometimes it doesn't work, and will show a blank scrolling page instead, does this issue happen to your S5? Or is it only available to change colour at some circumstances? Thanks
Didn't know you used your wife sometimes for filming. Video looked great. Also interesting so hear your insights and preferences for a car you bought for yourselves including the weak points.
Hi Thomas, I love watching and listening to your car reviews and appreciate your honesty, I thought the response from your Audi dealer was just something we experienced in England ! Keep up the good work, particularly in complaing about the loss of real switches. Regards. John
Very nice car! Could have bought myself if I had been a little bit more car enthusiast :) Sorry about the experience, VAG was leading the pack for worst customer experience here in Scandinavia for years don't know if it's their thing LoL. I've had the best dealer experience with my Toyotas always very helpful. Now in the VAG camp though, I've had a Leon ST for three years luckily zero problems now a Formentor incoming but yeah it is what it is ...
Congratulations Thomas! I see all of your videos in the spanish channel 'Autosensación'...and I enjoy everyone of your videos. Thank you.
Beautiful S5 cabrio.
I'm also a big convertible fan. My dream car for a while was an LC500/h convertible, but I really love the Genesis brand right now.
