Always great when an artist make the effort to do this... recalling the days when I stood by the paint rack in GW playing a you tube video to hear the paints used so i could buy them.
What’s the song in the intro? Any chance you’d start putting your playlist in your video description? I’ve generally loved the music you use for the videos and the intro here was so good I had to ask
Great work. I’ve started using your method of undershading Black Templar with Basilicanum Grey when I want a proper dark black. It works really well. Thanks. 👍🏻
That Old World stuff from GW offers so many opportunities for that when it eventually comes. I'll have a chat with a friend about stealing some of his old Sea Guard...
Funny you should mention time and being a soldier, because Warhammer is incredibly popular with pockets of soldiers and officers in my town - especially since they have the money!
Wow, that's finished up looking great! So gutted my Blood Angels I started long ago before contrast paints existed and want to keep the same look, but then I'm not skilled enough to paint this well anyway and I suppose a glutton for punishment haha. Still, taking some good ideas on techniques for one off models/characters etc. for my army.
My Blood Angels are in a similar position I started them before Contrast Paint and had a fair whack already and then the challenge was to use the contrast paints to achieve the same results which I promise I have been able to do particularly with these Death Company. That was sort of the inspiration for starting the channel was seeing how possible it was to do it!
I do a lot of my paint mixing with a seperate brush to try and protect the ones i use for painting safe from that rigorous process. I also about once a month give the brushes a good clean with some brush cleaner just to protect them for a little while longer.
I love it, It's great for much warmer tones so anything that has a more organic texture or models that you want to have a warmer feel like the Dark Angels armour is great with Wraithbone for Deathwing and Green Wing but Grey Seer is perfect for the Ravenwing. It literally depends on the model :D
There's tons of videos coming! Especially Death Guard, We've got Typhus out already and we'll be doing the contents of the Combat Patrol box very very soon.
I think as long as you thin it down to the same consistency you would normally to use through an airbrush there's absolutely no reason why not! I'm not sure what that would be though as I've never used an Airbrush but the theory is absolutely fine. Alternatively you could use a White Air paint it would be a little brighter and starker but you absolutely could do it.
That's not a bad idea at all! You would probably need to extend it a little bit and also paint black over the arrow tips as it is a full just natural X but I like your thinking!
@@Warhipster Im struggling how to use a black or the white decal for the left shoulder, the chapter icon decal. I only got the Levi decal sheet. any ideas?> I need white decal dont i?>
how did you get the right shoulder pad with the "X" on it? i checked the GW website and the sprue displayed for this box set doesn't have this particular shoulder pad. I also watched an unboxing of the Death company and those sprues didn't have a shoulder pad with an "X" on it either. I honestly don't even want it because i plan on painting my guys in red since i can't find a Blood Angel Intercessor or Blood Angel anything box set, just these death company ones.
Hi M F! That shouder pad is from the Firstborn Death Company kit, you can see it on the Marine at the back left in the first shot here: www.games-workshop.com/Blood-Angels-Death-Company-2020
@@Warhipster ah ok. thank you for clearing that up for me. So just for me to be sure, are the Primaris Death Company models the same models as the Blood Angels Primaris Intercessors, just 5 instead of 10? If the Death company set is painted red, there's no way to tell they're death company?

Awesome! Glad I could help!
Your scheme for the blood drop gems is genius. I will be applying that to all my BA/DC minis!
I’m glad you liked it, I was pretty pleased with it!
Skeleton horde for the hair is a great idea! I usually use Aggaros Dunes for the blond look but it can come out a bit dark sometimes.
For a more sandy blond Aggaros dunes is great and you can go even darker with Snakebite Leather. I call it the Angelic Hair Scale.
I’m going to copy this for my flesh tearers death company, all except for the edge high lightning cause I hate doing those lines as I suck at it
Try a zenithal/dry brushing your highlights before using contrast. In this way you get volumetric highlighting instead of edge highlights
@@oldmate86 clever idea
That style of black armour using contrast is growing on me I have to say! Well done that man.
I'm torn between this one and the blue method as my favourites.
Lovely! Some old school High Elves Contrast would be amazing !
Or Dark Elves

This looks ace and that kit bash works really nicely.
It's just enough to make those Intercessors a little more interesting and weirdly easier to paint
Funny you should mention time and being a soldier, because Warhammer is incredibly popular with pockets of soldiers and officers in my town - especially since they have the money!
I can well imagine! I know when I used to run a store there were a fair few squaddies came in there.

I will definitely try this on my Black Templar project! Thx for the inspiration! Subscribed!
Thank you so much! Any time!
You and me both! Glad to be sent here by Winters SEO for some Black Templars contrast painting tips!
Gorgeous work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Would you paint a death company tank or dreadnought the same way as this marine??
Nicely done. Looks great. With all of the painting you do, how do you keep your brushes so sharp and pointy?
I do a lot of my paint mixing with a seperate brush to try and protect the ones i use for painting safe from that rigorous process. I also about once a month give the brushes a good clean with some brush cleaner just to protect them for a little while longer.

Welcome aboard!
Another nice video. How do you like the Wraithbone Contrast Paint primer in comparison to the Grey Seer?

hope u make lots more videos! Would love death guard and mortarion and bloodletters and stuff. Its just so good! Is it always 2 coats or one?
There's tons of videos coming! Especially Death Guard, We've got Typhus out already and we'll be doing the contents of the Combat Patrol box very very soon.
Would you still use this formula or would you use the Lemartes formula from the new box which uses Black Legion?
very cool vid. i have one question: can i use grey seer with an airbrush? i dont like spray cans...

Would 2 coats of black templar be too much if I dont have the grey contrast paint???
Do you spray these for a varnish afterwards? I’ve had some of my black contrast paint randomly come off in little spots.
What's the name of the song that plays for the intro?
Could I use Ultramarine Close Support decal, the X and paint it red, as DC shoulder pad decal?
That's not a bad idea at all! You would probably need to extend it a little bit and also paint black over the arrow tips as it is a full just natural X but I like your thinking!

where do you get the shoulder armor from?
I have the blood angels death company intercessors and they are not included :(
They're from the Death Company set - the Firstborn models, rather than the Primaris one.

I would also like to know this as I cannot find it any-bloody-where
It’s from the Plastic Death Company kit which I suspect will be going off sale very very shortly

Did that power plant come with the new kit or is it from the original death company kit.
That’s a Mk 10 backpack if memory serves so it’ll be from either the Assault Intercessors or the Intercessor kit.

Ah - this is from the Firstborn kit from the Blood Angels range, rather than the Death Company Intercessors.
Your death company looks twice as big as the ones I have just bought, how come your figures are bigger
This is a Primaris Intercessor vBog, so that would probably account for it! :D
Would you paint a death company vehicle the same way as your troops? With contrast?
Ish. Put a helmet on.
would you use black legion now ? wondering what to buy
Too much work how long did this take you cuz I can’t do that on 20 plus guys lol
