    • @mavoc3094
      @mavoc3094 3 года назад +5

      Multiple things here are breaking the rules.
      1. The rod is not a weapon and therefore can't be made into your pact weapon.
      2. If you make a magic weapon into your pact weapon, you can't change its shape. A Dagger of Vemon can't be summoned as a Greataxe of Venom.
      3. The rod has a limited lifespan and can only absorb a maximum of 50 levels worth of spells, which also means it can only every cast a maximum of 50 levels worth of spells. There is no recharging function on it or any sort of time based renewal.

    The Birch Focus says "When you cast a spell that deals force damage using this item as your spellcasting focus, you gain a +1 bonus to *[ one damage roll ]* of the spell." which I believe means that it would only affect one of the beams of Eldritch Blast. It's still giving you damage but this is one instance where Eldritch Blast isn't multiple times better than another cantrip. Obviously it's still the only cantrip anyone ever takes that deals force damage though, so it still stands as a nice not-too-powerful low level item that's cool to receive.

    Illusionist Bracers on a Warlock gets even more bonkers if the Warlock has the repelling blast and lancer of lethargy invocations. Each hit essentially takes 20ft of movement from the enemy. As much as I love theory crafting builds with equipment and stuff, I see way too many people white room imagine super powerful, and often impractical (example: equip only damage boosting items with no armor or utility), combinations that would be very unlikely to happen during a game. Rare items are just that, rare. Do not expect to have three of them on a character without having to grind the resources (or traverse the locations holding them) to get them, which would land the party with a lot of action and content with out those items being present. As stated in the video, masterwork quality items might only appear once, and legendary items are usually part of the endgame plot.

    I question the applicability of the Shavarran Birch Focus to Eldritch Blast as you stated. First, Eldritch Blast doesn't have a material component, so I'm not sure if you CAN use the Focus to boost it as written. Second, even if you can use the Focus, you can only apply the damage boost to one damage role per casting of the spell. When you cast Eldritch blast at 5th, 11th, or 17th level, you make additional attack roles for the additional Blasts, but you still only cast the spell once, so only one blast could be boosted.

      A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage.
      The spell creates more than one beam when you reach higher levels: two beams at 5th level, three beams at 11th level, and four beams at 17th level. You can direct the beams at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each beam.

If you have more than one spellcasting ability, you choose which one to use with the item. If you don't have a spellcasting ability - perhaps you're a rogue with the Use Magic Device feature - your spellcasting ability modifier is +0 for the item, and your proficiency bonus does apply.

    Dark Shard Amulet is also really good item! It's specific to Warlocks & requires attunment & it can be used as a spellcasting focus. Here's the fun ability. You can attempt to cast any cantrip that's on the Warlock spell list w/ a sucessful DC 10 INT Arcana check that you DON'T KNOW! If you fail the check, the spell also fails as does the use of the ability and you cannont do so again until you finish a long rest. For a common magic item, it's pretty good & the DC for casting a spell is really low! So you really only have to roll really shitty in order for this ability to fail. So, it makes your Warlock very verstaile w/ combat & role-playing.

    I might somewhat behave if my DM offers me these Illusionist's Bracers for my Genie Warlock (they can add proficiency bonus in damage when they hit once per round, hence the weird 6 you're about to see) in the Tomb of Annihilation campaign we're about to start. By the end of the campaign, with just a hex, I could do 8d10 + 8d6 + 46 damage in a single round, for as long as my concentration holds (up to 24 hours). If my napkin math is right, that averages to 112, but min/max is 62-172.
    Without it I'd still be doing 4d10 + 4d6 + 26, which is 34-90, average 62. That's not terrible but it's pretty much free. Idk why people hate on warlocks so much. I have a Hexblade in a Curse of Strahd campaign too and I'm playing them completely differently, and I anticipate that they'll both be as useful and fun to play.

    I think you can't tri-wield War Mage, Pact Keeper, and Staff of Power, as they all take effect "while holding;" you can use at most two of them at once (and indeed, I agree that Staff and Pact Keeper are the better two choices if possible.)
    I can't speak for others' characters, but I'm playing a winged tiefling, and I would hope a decent fraction of warlocks out there today are doing likewise. As such, winged boots become moot -- but Boots of Elvenkind become tasty, esp since they (are uncommon and) require no attunement! Sentinel Shield is another great (uncommon) no-attunement item, but alas, it requires being held as well, and so cannot stack with dual-wielded War Mage/Pact Keeper/Staff of Power, and you'd need some kind of shield proficiency (feat to get the skill or levels in another class, or something along those lines) along with War Caster to be able to deploy it while casting spells.
