  • "LOOK MA.......NO BOXES!" I have all but abandoned tool boxes to keep tools in and have thrown my chips on the table and went all-in with using tool cubbies in my tool trailer. I like that I am not opening up a box to get to a tool but can lay hands right on it and have it making me money in no time.
This method of tool storage, having used it for the past five years, has become my workflow.
Full disclaimer: I used to be a big tools in boxes guy and still secretly have a couple that still live in boxes and I am real cool with that.
Go To Ron Paulk's Smart Woodshop store to check out his plans to build this type of rolling toolbox. Plans are inexpensive and detailed. He has a number of companion videos about his trailer build to go along with the plans on his YT channel. Check it out!
Renovations and Repairs YT channel has a very cool build out in this style with all kinds of real effective modifications. Check out his videos on his trailer!
Shooshinejonnie has an incredible trailer build on his YT channel. Dave Edmonson has an equally incredible build on his YT channel. Both are worthy of a bowl of popcorn!

Hey Steve . I couldn’t agree with you more. The cubbies are awesome and I will definitely build them in my next version.
The only thing I don’t think I have heard anyone say is that these trailers are all under built. It seems everyone is purchasing 7000 gvw trailers. I have a 7x14 7000lb gvw trailer set up like yours and I am at capacity. I do tow daily and don’t leave it on the job so it sees a lot of wear and tear. I’ve snapped leaf springs and axels. I’ve since added the upgraded 2 5000lb axels and heavier leg springs. So my recommendation to anyone building one of these trailers is that they consider ordering a more heavy duty trailer. It’s a bunch of extra money that is well worth it.
Thanks for all of the videos you produce we appreciate all of your incite and hard work.

Thanks for the great insight RWCR! You could not be more correct about a warning up front to buy a trailer with 10,000 lb capacity or better to avoid the weight issue and the added wear and tear of a max-weight loaded trailer has on tires, suspension, and axles. The rugged upgrade is extremely recommended. My next trailer will be ordered with tandem 5k axles for this very reason. I would appreciate knowing that in the new trailer, I would always be under weight. (A good peace of mind)!.
      Go Cubbies!!!!!!
