    Many years ago, I purchased a 1944 Springfield M-1 from the CMP. The rifle was a Springfield arsenal rebuild and was still in the plastic. At that time of rebuild the original barrel was replaced and a Springfield in 1965 barrel installed. It measures a "0 ". All the parts on the rifle are Springfield as is the stock. At that time it was $165.00.

    The CMP stamp on the stock means its a brand new stock that they made. CMP does not stamp the stocks they don't do. If the stock is stamp than it came from the Philippines lend lease due to major deterioration. CMP has released video and info on this.

    My Brother-in-Law just inherited a CMP Springfield M1 Special Grade, what a beautiful rifle.
    His example kind of won the "wood-Lottery" as it has a beautifully figure/grain Walnut Stock.

    I received my latest M1, it is an expert grade. New walnut stock and barrel. It is a Dec 1944. My other is May 45. I field strip it when I got it a put 6 coats of BLO on the stock. Really made it stand out.

    Congratulations on your wise choice to add the Garand to your armory. Raw linseed oil is what eventually gives it the reddish patina. I like to keep a light coat of “Howard Feed-n-wax” on the wood. Frankly, who gives a ratz zass if all the “parts match”? The M1 was constantly improved throughout it’s manufacturing life... culminating with the post-WW2 HRA rifles... the créme de la créme. The golden years of CMP ended about 15 years ago when they started running out of NOS parts. In 2001, they had a program where if you signed-up to come to Camp Perry and shoot the Garand Match, they gave you the opportunity to shoot the match with a specially prepared M1. If you shot the match with that rifle, you could buy it for $400. If you bought the rifle, you could buy all the Lake City ammunition you could carry, on clips for about 5 cents a round. I still have wooden cases of it stacked. Probably the best parts kits were Danish. I was lucky enough to buy one with a like new VAR barrel. The Danish 30-06 ammo was excellent quality, but berdan primed. I’ve been reading about the 32d “Red Arrow” Division on New Guinea in early WW2.
    www.32nd-division.org/history/ww2/32ww2-2.html
    When they were stupidly ordered to trek across the Owen Stanley range, a lot of GIs threw their heavy Garands and/or ammo away. The Army sent lubricating oil in 50-gallon barrels and they had no way to disperse it out to the troops, so in the constant rain, many Garands were useless due to jamming.

    Special grade: decent receiver (hopefully no pitting) ,new barrel, new stock, parts parkerized and mixed armory's. They are fine shooting rifles but have limited collectability due to the new parts that are randomly sourced....highly collectable rifle will cost you 3 or 4 times the amount and then it sits in the safe.

    • @reverendreview1777
      @reverendreview1777  3 года назад +1

      I have shot it a few times; however, I zeroed it at an indoor 50 yard range and my final grouping was under 2 inches. I could have spent more time zeroing it and I believe I could have gotten it to a 1” group but it was hot in the range (I’m in south Texas) and I was trying to zero my M1903-A3 that same afternoon. I’ll spend more time at the range when it gets a little cooler here, maybe January. Like you said, it’s a beautiful rifle and I enjoy having it in my collection.

    how long did it take for CMP to ship your rifle?

    • @reverendreview1777
      @reverendreview1777  4 года назад

      It was a little different for me because I sent off my information to the CMP during the quarantine back at the end of February beginning of March. But they called me a couple days before they sent me the rifle. They then overnighted the rifle to me. Should there had been no quarantine then I would guess just short of 2 weeks from me sending my info to them, to the rifle arriving at my front door.

    This rifle must not be redone with period correct parts! I notice the trigger guard is not ww2, it's post war!! Nice rifle, parkerizing is nice! There a pair of books written by a guy named Scott Duff who has done all kinds of research on period correct parts for different time periods of manufacture! Great books a must have if you want to put a grand back together with correct numbered parts!!! Love my Feb 1944 springfield!!!

    • @reverendreview1777
      @reverendreview1777  3 года назад

      Yeah, I don’t think this M1 I will go for all period correct parts since the barrel is newly manufactured. But eventually I would like a ww2 period correct rifle.

      @@reverendreview1777 I put all correct parts in mine but it too has a kerager centurian Barrell! Had a guy I found thru garands collectors magazine to restore mine! Dean's gun restorations in tennessee! New watnut stock and all! When I got it back I sent stock to buy near atlanta the stamped all the correct cartuches in stock just like it would have been at time of issue! It was a mix mash of wood and parts! It was a fun project!!! It still amazes me how badass garands are,. The power it exibits when shooting is something everyone should experience! Even can brag about getting garand thumb!!??

    • @cornholius
      @cornholius 2 года назад

      @@scott1395 nice, I know you're not doing it to deceive anyone because it's your rifle. There are guys who buy as many from the CMP as they can, force markings, and sometimes serial numbers. Then sell them to less experienced buyers at the insane inflated market rate. These things are really plentiful but the greed is out of control.

      Brandon Ly I saw that too I was gonna order a service but saw it went out of stock. I ordered a special rack Winchester. Guaranteed ww2 receiver (it’s a Winchester) and a new stock and barrel. Unfortunately I don’t think they will be back in stock as they kind of just have the guns they got back from the phillipines and unless some more garands from another country show up... they don’t really have any more

      BadJackalope Are all the Philippine ones gone already? My paperwork was delivered before June 1 (online it says out of stock June 1, 2020) but if they were backlogged with mail ins, I assume mine won’t be with those that made it before it changed to “sold out.” I guess I will see! Just a waiting game. I saw that the special rack Winchester was out of stock June 1 as well.
