    Appointments aren't needed at the South Store. Only 6 customers at a time allowed inside. I've bought there twice now. I've met guys who have driven from Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Texas and even Montana. The Marksmanship Park is only about 30 or 40 minutes from the store and they sell rifles there as well so people check out both locations while they are here.

    I live close to the South Store and bought mine at the store a few months ago. I picked out a Field Grade that was mostly a correct SA rifle from 1942. All SA parts. The only things making it not correct was the stock cartouche was from a 1943 run and it had a 1951 SA barrel. If you can make it to the store, they have a great selection from all 4 manufacturers.

I'm sure you know, but the 30 aught '06 back in the 1930's, was not the same power level as it is now! Modern rounds could cause a few problems for the M-1. Sgt. Roos, John T. (Ret.) Semper Fidelis

      30-06 was an intentional de-rating of 30-03 because 30-03's power was causing problems for the M1903, so when nobody's stopping you, people brought back that beyond-spec power to 30-06. The reason 7.62 NATO was able to do essentially what 30-06 was supposed to do in a smaller package was that it wasn't being used to full potential. And so you can easily make 30-06 that causes problems for these rifles.

    I have a number of CMP M1’s bought when they had a nearly limitless selection. My two favorites are built around unissued, late 1950’s H&R barreled receivers. The M1 underwent a continuous program of improvement and the pinnacle in terms of quality, craftsmanship and finish were reached with the H&R. The Danish M1’s were very nice, especially when fitted with that great VAR barrel. Greek return rifles were still pretty good. No idea what today’s offerings are like. Still a good buy, I’m sure.
    In the day, CMP was THE source for the highest quality parts and ammunition as well. Cases of Lake City Match ammo... wooden crates packed with Danish ammunition... then finally the Greek stuff. In 2001, CMP offered Garand Match shooters the use of a “specially prepared “ M1. If you shot the match using that rifle, it was yours for $500. If you bought the rifle, you were entitled to buy all the Lake City ball you could carry for a nickel a round. I carried so much ammo out of there that day, I broke the shock mounts on my vehicle. And the rifle? Superb!
    We drilled with and fired the Garand in Coast Guard basic training. A few days before graduation, we cleaned our rifles and marched down to the armory t turn them in. We did that twice. After the second refusal by the Gunners Mates to accept the rifles, our Drill Chief took us back to the barracks. He had us totally disassemble our rifles, and make piles of the oprods, trigger group parts, followers, guides, etc., everything except the bolts. Then we randomly grabbed parts, cleaned and reassembled our new frankengarand. Since that day, I’ve never been too concerned about which parts are “correct”.

    Bought my FG back in 2004. Test fired it and it shot great. Put on a beautiful stock and then the rifle went in the safe for quite a few years. I just took it out to clean and lube it and was surprised to find that every single part was brand new. Not a scratch pit, dent or mark of any kind on anything. The barrel is even brand new. I'm not sure what Field Grade meant back in 2004 but the one they sent me is literally perfect. I've been on the lookout for a Tiger Striped Maple Stock so if anyone has a lead, please let me know. My walnut stock is beautiful but Maple just looks so great to my eyes. Good video.

No way for me to know if about each part and really not concerned. It's not a National Match or any kind of rare M1. It's just really, really nice and I didn't notice that back in 2004. Now that I've been watching some Garand videos, I'm seeing some rifles that look worn, used, rusty, pitted and generally not so great. Had some .30-06 brass laying around so decided to reload and get Garand info. Do you know what The Devil Pups are? I know what "Devil Dog" is. Very good stuff.

    Bought 3 rifles and a stripped receiver twenty years ago. I didn't plan on it but the first two I purchased ( a Springfield and a Winchester) were more collectors grade them service that I ordered. They were way to nice to do a lot of shooting with so I purchased another Springfield to be a shooter. Bought the stripped receiver because it was a great price and I wanted to build a match rifle. My only regret is not buying a IHC or H&R so I could have one of each. I looked today just to see what they had and everything was out of stock, its a damn shame the Clinton administration destroyed 3 million M1's and 03's during his term and Obama destroyed 100 of thousands.

    No offense but CMP needs a solid limit, not a per year limit but a set limit, guys who buy up 4+ M1 Garands at a time are the reason a 18 year old like myself can’t purchase any m1 for under 1000 on the free market, let alone the fact CMP is a monopolist gun club for M1Gs M1Cs, 1911s, and 1903Ss.
    I had the opportunity to inherit a M1 Garand and an M1 Garand from my grandfathers estate but my mother decided to ask me what I wanted when she damn well knew I didn’t see but three guns. All I had was the chance to hold the M1 carbine that was a South Korean aid after it was bought from under me. Literally cried in my bed the night I found out that my firearm incompetent mother and aunt let this happen and decided to instead take 2 sks and a 22. Walther. But heh I got a fucking CZ52 and a commercial c96 with no blueing instead. The only Good thing i got was a fucking late war Walther p38 in all its late war garbage condition glory.

    • @devildog_iii3492
      @devildog_iii3492  3 года назад +2

      The p38 is a must for any collection either condition. I just sold a Garand on gunbroker for $800 so they’re out there. And I usually buy 8 at a time, Rarely sell. Why don’t u just buy a CMP Garand for $650?? CMP doesn’t dictate the price on secondary market, idk why people think that.. the weirdest shit is when trying to sell a Garand and they think it’s worth less cuz it came from CMP, but take a CMP rifle and sell it w saying it’s not and the buyers are all happy..

    • @actinganimal885
      @actinganimal885 3 года назад

      Devildog III CMP dictates the secondary market by being the sole importer of M1 garands, they sell them at a low price to those who have a certain criteria/resume but not at all to those who aren’t in a recognized gun club, also I’m not actually 18 I’m 17 I turn 18 in 5 months

    • @devildog_iii3492

    • @actinganimal885
      @actinganimal885 3 года назад +2

      @@roscoebarnes1222 I did the fucking research as soon as I got the thing in my hands
      In accordance with the AC variant of the pistols, AC being the German Codename for the Walther factory, the serial number of this Pistole is 6647-A and due to the German requirement that factories produce 10,000 pistols a month, this means that this is #6647/10,000 now the suffix A means that the factory had already reached 10,000 pistoles thus they started over from 1A to 10000A. Now what I find interesting is that given the year stamped on the receiver 45, that mean that this Pistol was not only a late war but that, since the suffix “A”, this Pistole was made in February of 1945, 2 months prior to the capture of the Walther factory in Zella-Mehlis and 3 months before the end of the war in Europe. Now what I find really interesting is that this pistols isn’t a Kriegsmodel, translating to war model, which means it isn’t a model made from loose parts in a scramble to produce a working firearm or a vet bring back jigsaw puzzle when the 11th armored div took the town and the factory.
