ON THAT NOTE! What do you all think about God's Gang? Is it offensive? Is it wholesome? Lemme know in the comments!
I don't think it's offensive on purpose, but I get the same vibe as that one soccer mom bumper sticker that says 'COEXIST' and every letter is a different religious symbol. It being so optimistic and genuine is kinda charming along side being so silly. Edit: Are... are the enemies of the series personifications of conspiracy theories? Reptilians, generalized Evil scientists?
@@crazyluigi6664god i unironically loved that show though imma be real i always loved “offending everyone” type shows and when you have them as superheroes it’s hilarious af minoriteam is actually really progressive i mean they have villains named corporate ladder and standardized testing instead of just the obvious kkk and nazi.
If this is real I want a edgy batman character named Agnostkick who fights crime and when asked about religon he or she worships says "I worship no one and everyone."
I was thinking of "Scept-Kick" funny enough. But he was more like The Question, systematically analyzing everything and... just being a creepy (yet well intentioned) weirdo. The guy who goes through everyone's trash to see who is or isn't who they say they are.
While I was at College they had a group that got multiple people from different religions together to talk about differences, hates, misconceptions, etc it mostly focused around Abrahamic faith and called themselves the Children of Abraham. It was extremely respectful and amazing learning experience there was some really awful people who joined to try and be angry at Jewish or Muslim fate but they were like very far between each other like maybe 1-2 a year. They also had great food, which probably while it was Extremely popular with broke college students.

They have said they intend to bring in more characters with other faiths, so I'm sure we'll see it eventually if they keep getting funding for episodes
I think my only gripe here is the seemingly lack of effort with everyone except Chris Cross's design. the other three just look like fairly generic idea of practitioners of their respective religions while Chris Cross's design gets to draw inspiration from 1970s blaxploitation genre (which is a very cool idea! this isn't me ragging on that concept). I kind wish the other characters had something like that. maybe base each character after a different kind of action star, kung-fu cinema, Spy thrillers, Bollywood, idk literally anything.
I'd agree with this as a Muslim, but I can see if you're not working with someone who's familiar or in the religion, it'll be hard to make any references that could slip into bad stereotypes.
@demiralilian3271 I mean that's just it though. I feel like if you want to make this series about religious tolerance and inclusivity, don't you think It'd be important to get people on your team who do know about the religions you're basing characters on?
@@TheMissGnat yeah I know and that is what my grip is too. but being realistic here, there's probably not much Islamic people working in the project, and that's why.
Chris seems to have had a lot more effort put into him than the other three. Between having a design that exists beyond a stereotype and having an actual name, he feels like he exists as a character beyond just his religion and the other three don't, at least as a first impression.
I really don't think the shows enemies should be science and people who don't believe in the same religion but should just be bad people in general. Like have them fight a monster or bullies like normal kids cartoon villains, not people who aren't even bad people just people who don't believe in it. It truly teaches the opposite of what they're wanting to teach. Edit) I feel like sharing the other ideas in my replies: having them fight extremists and cultist
They could even fight cultist or things like that, people who manipulates others with religion instead of using it as an instrument for peace. Although that may hit to close to home for some parents.
I don't think it's meant to be OFFENSIVE. I think it was a well meaning, yet naive attempt at showing inter-faith solidarity. I think the creator wanted to find what these religions all have in common, as opposed to their differences. But as a result, it overlooks the complexities and fascinating cultural differences that make these religions unique. In it's place, he fell back on general superhero tropes and also some more superficial ways to differentiate the cast.
i see it as a message that all religions should respect each other, heck as a believer of islam a rule of our religion is manners. which is not to harass people that arent muslim and let them do what they want to. during the caliphate, the khalifahs just let the jews do their religion openly, which is manners!
@@krio1267 My sibling in faith, believe me it's very refreshing to see a fellow muslim who believes in respecting others values! بارك الله يومكم ! أدعو ربي أن ياتنا الحكمة فمن أوتيها فقد أوتي خيرا كبيرا.
Yeah, I think so too. On the surface, I also see this as a cute idea with a potential I can understand. It’s just everything else like you said. Looks like the creator’s got the right spirit. But may be a little bit out of touch.
It might make him moderately cooler. (Sorry, I'm a butthurt Jew. We're possibly the most varied ethnic group on the planet, and this show represents us with a parody of Woody Allen.)
As a hindu, this show sounds nice, its vey wholesome, hoe the creator tried their hardest to make it a good show for people, the stereotypes they give is not great, but I'll still support the show, i really wanna watch it too, and taekwon-hindu's voice is just so nice, and the puns, THE PUNS, amazing, 10/10.
@@helenawheeler7437It’s like one of those shows you’d assume it’s edgy like every family guy clone but it’s actually a kick ass adventure show where the group acts like family… honestly I’d watch it sounds like Adventure Time
The idea of showing various religions from the world working together and seeing the good messages that each culture has to tell, is actually a very nice idea. Not gonna lie. I think each religion (and even ancient mythologies) do have some truth to them. Unfortunately, we know the turmoil that religious extremism and differences have caused over the years (I mean, Jesus wanted us to spread love and compassion in his name and several organizations ended up doing the opossite thing)
Totally agree. People follow religions because of their positive messages and I think every one that's existed has something deeply human and respectable about it, even if many have...other less then steller ideas nested inside as well. What's most important is treating everyone with respect and love and understanding. Whatever they believe, they are human too. That as a basic thought...needs to be promoted. But a lot of people get into hate circle jerks. They hate me, I'll hate them back kind of stuff. Or just misguided stuff getting repeated instead of truth (and people not listening long enough to find it.) I think Saber has a point. People are negative on the internet. We need to, as individuals, feed the ideas we want to live with, not the ones that drag us and others down, like cynicism and aggression.
A good idea but the execution seems subpar.. Suggestions: -have different villains from different backgrounds -character redesign -14 minutes -have ninjew ninja stars as Star of David -have characters learn from each other Any other suggestions?
@Warriorcats12344nah it's not as long as they don't portray all science as something bad and deny evolution or shit like that, they even have aliens which a lot of Christian's believe are demons or fallen angels for some reason
Credit where credit due, I do really like the art style, and the animation is pretty good for a small production. Also the "no one wants to come to work on Wednesday/ Well its Tuesday" joke got a big chuckle out of me. Ageing it up to appeal more to older kids, maybe have some harder hitting questions whilst still remaining faithful could be a good spin.
I agree with this. The production team will DEFINITELY need to do research but i gotta say. it's so nice seeing something genuine, even if it missed the mark in places. So many shows and movies are 'ironic' and mean spirited in a "haha we all suck! please laugh!" way, so to see ANYTHING that insists different people are all great, actually, and have different skills, is really refreshing. :)
I am going to be honest. I just find it absolutely adorable that it comes from a loving father who wants to be a good example for his children. I know the attempt is ignorant and goofy. But hey. In the end it's wholesome and goofy which is at least a sweet atempt
@@yeahgirl11 Well for one the intro says they're following "one god" while theres a Hindu. The others make sense since they all folow Abraham but Hindusim is NOT Abrahamic
@KTheAlphabetArtist But the character respresents Hindusim as a whole. Basing it off only a secluded type is ignorant. That'd be like basing the jewish character off 'Jews for Jesus' by making him talk about how much he loves the son of God. It's generalising, misleading and ignorant.

@@MrEvolved Bub, those teachings exist and are repeated ad nauseum. But since these values are intangible and life after death is a lie, trying to get ahead in capitalism proves to be the better choice to make it on this planet.
Ehh... Hindu theology is complex and varied, but most of the larger school of Hinduism belive that there is one underlying "god" and that all the gods are different forms/eminations/facets of that one. Depending on the tradition or the individual beliver it can be very literal, as in they are all individual "persons" with one underlying reality (more like the Christian Trinity), or more abstract, as in different gods are just ways for people to compartmentalize the wast underlying divine in a way that they can understand and relate to. So many Hindus, especially in majority Christian and Muslim areas will say they belive in God, or "one god", or the same God as those monotheist religions do, just with a very different view on it. And if Christians get the "one god" pass despite the Trinity I don't see why Hindus can't as well if they want.
Hinduism has Brahman, which is the Ultimate Principle of all that is. Brahman is unchanging, but through it's influence all else can be changed. It binds all diversity in unity. That sounds like a dead-ringer for a supreme creating force when comparing it to other religions. And while the other three religions have YHWY(Yahwey)/Allah/God, I can see how the creators would include Hindu representation with such an entity/concept in its cosmology. That being said, Brahman is indifferent, creating merely because it is compelled to.
The comments to this post are the kind of nice informative little blurbs I was hoping to find. I was curious about the Hindu thing too, and now I understand a bit better.
I feel like this show could have succeeded at what it was trying to do if 1. the characters had actual names and 2. their religions were more than just shallow stereotypes or set dressing. What if the show portrayed how the religions are different in practice? Maybe the Muslim character takes out a prayer mat periodically, maybe the Christian character goes to church on Sundays, maybe the Hindu character offers to a murti, etc. and then the other characters respond with, "oh hey, that's cool." Having characters respond to radically different beliefs and practices would actually be a poignant message. If you're going to go there, then go there!
Yeah, but one of them will inevitably say "woah, pal, that's kinda sussy what you're doing there" Especially when it comes to the Hindus. Who are not avrahamic.
They can't make it mote realistic because otherwise muslim guy would have refused to work with a woman and treat her like an equal team member. And that's not the worst that could've happened.
It feels like a PBS show. Not one of the hard hitters, but something nice that kids might look back on fondly. I think it has the bones to be something.
They created a cartoon with little to no stereotyping, showing that you genuinely wish to deliver this message of kindness to one another, and for that I thank them and wish them success in their endeavors.
As a Jew, it’s very funny to me they gave Ninjew the smallest nose out of all of them, likely to avoid stereotypes. But then they still went with reptilians as the villains, which is in and of itself an antisemitic trope. This is a very odd show. I hope there are more episodes made, I am fully on board even if just ironically lmfao
If I were a supervillain in this universe I'd attack in the middle of the day on the overlap between the Sabbath and Ramadan so that Ninjew can't do anything and Sumuslim would physically be at his weakest from having not eaten anything all day.
Hihi Muslim here! :)) Honestly this show is pretty wholesome and it’s pretty kids-friendly. It’s also shows that even if our religions are different, we still all are human beings who deserve respect
I love it. Im Jewish and i think Ninjew being a stereotypical short nerd is hilarous. As long as nobody takes this too seriously, we can all enjoy the show. And i love the message, i dont think anybody should hate someone for their beliefs.
From a Christian point of view, I think this show is innocent, and a rather fun attempt into the world of "religious media". I know dang well that there's a lot of media in the Christian world, whether it's shows, cartoons, movies, and songs, that are outright horrible. So I find this new addition to be one of the more entertaining, bearable, and fun ones to become part of this category. I can't speak for any other religion, but I find this to be just a innocent attempt. I think it could be better certainly, in a lot of ways, but yeah. I, also from another Christian view, am very pleased with the Christian character in the group. I like the hip funky Black guy, instead of the rather perceived "persona" of what a Christian would look like, like a white man with short hair in a polo shirt. It's very refreshing to see the character played from a different person, like a gospel hall vibe instead of protestant, which is no shame to protestants of course, just not every Christian is that. I think this show is pretty neat, but I also know I'm a really lax person about this kinda stuff, so I think it's pretty neat, but I don't think most will. Probably think it's too "silly".
I think it's very wholesome and positive, I like the (very imaginary irl) idea of the abrahamic religions working together like this. Oh and Hinduism is very fascinating, I like the inclusion.
I really love this! Since my grandparents and I are Christian, and one of my uncles is Jewish (in fact he was born in Israel), It's nice to see a new kid's cartoon that has characters with different religious backgrounds and has messages of friendship and peace. In fact, I would prefer to watch this instead of Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel. ☮✝☪🕉✡☮
is your uncle still living in israel? if so then i wish nithing but the best of luck for him as this is a very rough time for the country. (i would know. i live in israel)
I'm ngl, when the creator said he wants the world to accept each others differences, it really touched me! I think the method he used is controversial, but his heart is in the right place.
Maybe he just lacks experience in story telling. I sometimes talk to people who don’t know much about story writing and filmmaking. And when I ask them what they would like to see in a movie, it can sound crazy. You know where it comes from based on their taste and repeated tropes in movies. But because they don’t know the technical parts of film and writing, it comes off as naive.
YesSSS it really needs some less stereotypical designs (also not the villains looking like Jewish charicatures...) Saber is right, we are too cinical for this
I think this is an adorable idea but with a terrible execution. 🤣 like I’d love to see a show where you have people of different religions come together and how different faiths solve problems but this seems kinda weird honestly.
Pretty cool concept, but definitely could use some work, especially on clearly defining the age demographic they're actually aiming for. It could be a good tool to teach religious tolerance and comprehension in a fun way to children just as much as it could be an interfaith satire that would probably belong in adult swim, depending on the direction it is taken from now on. I personally prefer the first option (I think we already have enough religious satire), and honestly I would love to watch and comment something like this with my nieces (they're Muslim, I'm Catholic).
We initially aimed towards 6-13 yo, based on the pilots collective feedbacks it seems that we need to focus on 9-19 while not loosing the appeal of younger and older audience known as universal content, it's hard we will start soon with 3min 52 episode for online
@@GodsGangGo That's good to know, I think that's a better age target than 6-13. I'm genuinely interested in your project, to be honest, so I'll be sure to follow up on your progress. As I said, I think it could become a good tool to promote religious tolerance, especially within interfaith communities. By the way, I don't know if that was just the concept for your pilot or something that you're planning to keep as a general plot point across the series, but I would like it if we could also have good (religious) scientist characters instead of scientists regularly being the villains. I feel that otherwise it could accidentally end up promoting anti-intellectualism and reinforcing the unhealthy skepticism that is already a problem within a lot of religious communities. I myself am a physicist and a Catholic and I know lots of other religious researchers, at least within my field, for example. I found Chris Cross lovely, by the way. It's a fresh take that better reflects the diversity of Christians beyond just WASPs, and I like that. Please keep it up, and don't be discouraged by the people finding it ridiculous!
I'm pretty sure they just represent aliens. This show seems more interested in the base positive message than anything deeper, and it'd be kinda contrary to the messaging if they were represntative of a different faith. ...Even scientology...
So the idea of people from differing beliefs getting along is seen as SO UNREALISTIC that an innocent show about an inter-faith group being superheroes is considered “offensive” This just makes me feel sad for this world… Whatever happened to all those virtuous teachings that these religions are supposed to be upholding??
First impressions, this looks so corny that I could probably find ironic enjoyment out of it. I'm Christian myself and the concept of people of different faiths coming together to fight evil sounds wild and honestly hilarious. Edit: I watched it for myself and I think I like it too much because I want to see more. It's just plain fun to watch. Nothing too deep, but still a fun time.
I love the premise too, but the characters rub me the wrong way. I can’t think of anything reason why tho other than they don’t feel real or human. And I not sure why I feel that way.

Now can someone please explain the dog angel? , Because all I’m thinking is the movie all dogs go to heaven ( that wouldn’t surprise me if it referenced that considering the finding Nemo joke, that made me laugh at least)
I think that if the show went in depth about the cultures, practices, and history behind each character's religion and had some representation from other religions, the show would be really cool! Plus, the fact that the show isn't just about representation of cultures, but depicting and encouraging solidarity between them, is really powerful and is a really important message that the world needs now more than ever. Could a show save the world? Maybe not. But I think we need more shows that focus on "We're different, but our similarities and our cooperation is more important".
As a concept and design this show seems really sweet and wholesome especially for kids! I was a Veggie Tales kid who also had friends from different faiths, so I know I would've loved something like this back then! Unfortunately the detail that the enemies are scientists/science-based really rubs me the wrong way though...
You know what - I want this to work. The world could use some unironic wholesomeness. My only thought is that a) have the scripts run though some consultants from the faiths, sensitivity readers b) don't make the villians "anti-religious" people and scientists, since there are devoted people in science and it would muddy the message of unity between different beliefs to make the world better. There are enough things that can be villianized - bullying, exploitation, pollution, substance abuse, etc. I'd also aim at the 8-11 demographic, but the writing could be clever so it's not too blunt. It's of course hard to imagine this flying with someone like conservative evangelicals, but if we canceled every show that doesn't fly with them.... Besides there are interfaith families. The key here is sensitivity readers from different backgrounds. I'd also drop the halo and wings on Dogma's design, since they are christian shorthand iconography and maybe give her a glow or radiance instead to imply her nature more neutrally. This is the stuff you need people of different backgrounds to chime in in the production.
Could probably show scientists doing good, makes those two that cause havoc to be the type of scientists that care for personal gain instead of bettering the world. Maybe use that to depict those religions as well? Show that some use religion as a way to cause harm to non-believers instead of accepting differences in the world. You can make a lot of nuance behind it.
In another video about God’s Gang someone commented this, so I think it has to be said: How about an Atheist/Agnostic reporter who’s always late and misses the magic 😂 If they portrayed that respectfully, I love that idea.
gotta make it a dynamic duo, the atheist who always misses the show and the obnoxiously dedicated missionary always trying to drag her to catch it in time, like candace and her mom.
I'm not going to lie. I might have to make this concept my next Dungeons & Dragons campaign. A party consisting of a cleric, a druid, a paladin, and a warlock.
Okay, imagine this as a bit more slice-of-life along with the goofy adventures. I can imagine an episode where Jew Jitsu (I refuse to call him anything else) telling his friends about the legend of the Golem, and having them ask questions and compare the story to ones from their own culture. Or there could be a scene where Sumuslim explains the Adhan, the Call to Prayer, and translates a few verses for them. Idk, I just think with a little work it could be really cool
I like that! I’m Buddhist and It reminds me of when me and my Muslim friend would exchange stories and ideals from each other’s religions and bond over how similar their morals are.
I honestly wish him well, and kudos to him for trying to do something to make things better. However effective it ends up being in the end, it takes a lot of courage to even try and that should be recognized. As far as advice I'd give him, I'd say bringing on some sensitivity readers could go a long way to sanding off some of the more...awkward aspects. The show's always going to be cringey, its too genuine not to be, but keeping it compassionate and earnest can help win people over in the long run.

Having a show that can teach kids people of different beliefs can still relate to each other is awesome. I wouldn't use religion as the connecting tissue, but good effort.
Not hating on the show, but kids are the last people that need to be taught that. They vibe with any of their peers without thinking about their race/religion etc unlike adults
I think my main issue with this show is that they depict Scientists as the bad guys. Like maybe that wasn't the intent that it implies Scientists are anti religion, but that what it looks like. As someone who was raised as a Christian but became an atheist later as I got older when my family stopped going to church simply because life became too busy… I really do want to see this show get a chance, 'cause like you said, can't fault the guy for trying, can't fault his intentions for being misplaced, because in the end he had genuine intentions for peace. And considering the messed up world we are in right now with multiple wars going on, I feel like we really need that, especially for the children. I hope it gets a chance, it won't be for me, but as someone who wants more peace, I think this is exactly what we require. And because I was raised by an affectionate family… I'd say I totally love to give all four members of the gang a hug.
Firstly, I think "God Squad" would be a better name, it kinda rhymes that way. If this project picks up steam, I hope that the scientists don't stay villains. I think that if you're going to make a show where the premise is that people of different faiths can get along despite their differences, pointing out a particular group (possibly atheists in this case, idk I'm speaking hypothetically) as the bad guys kinda sours the message. Like, if the show wants to fight hate, it needs to be really careful about its villains to make sure it isn't reinforcing any biases the team might have. Im not saying that the creators are doing this in bad faith; I'm just saying that for the show to actually follow its premise, it needs to be very nuanced and as unbiased as possible.
If anything, I think it would be better if they made the villains be groups of religious extremists who hate seeing people of different religions getting along and come up with different plans in each episode to sabotage things and make it seem like it was the fault of another religion, manipulating people into hating each other. Maybe they even try manipulating the members of God’s gang into turning against each other, until they realize what’s happening and work together to stop the extremist villains. Doing this would teach kids that, in the real world, it’s not easy to understand other people with different beliefs/cultures and that as a result, prejudice can stem from it. That’s why it’s important to respect people and their religions despite their differences if we truly wish to live together peacefully. It’s a lot better than having the atheist villains give off the impression of slandering people who simply choose not to follow any religious faiths.

Uh, Scientology is definitely a special case, it was created to extract money from its followers. The beliefs that make it up were originally invented as a form of therapy, and only later turned into a religion (to dodge taxes) A lot of world governments consider them a business. This isn’t ordinary run of the mill shady religious stuff . I think he was wrong to say he respects everyone’s beliefs, but only because you shouldn’t respect beliefs. You should respect people, and allow beliefs to stand or fall on their own Merit.
Curry Kebab Burgers with Latkas is an underrated gag. I want this to be kept super young and innocent. That under 12 age range. This is so unironic and straight forward that I think if it went overly serious or aimed at a older audience, it would get bogged down. The glory of a show like this is aim it at that kids demo that doesn't have any preconceptions or biases and will just accept it at face value. Multiple people of different faiths fighting aliens and just being friends. Theres something special about the simplicity.
I dunno, I think it looks alright. The passion and kindness behind it seems genuine and the idea of "zany superheroes who tap into their religion for super powers" is fun, with any offensiveness being completely accidental. (My only gripe is that Hinduism isn't monotheistic and so feels like the odd one out. But it has a lot of really cool stories and deities, so there's potential there?) Overall it feels like a potentially very nice educational tool about world faiths + spiritualities while promoting friendship and unity, but I do agree that it'd be better aimed at older kids/teens since that'd give it a lot more ground to cover and more complicated topics to discuss.
technically hinduism is monotheistic, all of the gods in their pantheon are aspects of a single divinity. it'd be like saying Christianity isn't monotheistic because the Holy Trinity is 3 different gods.
not the jewish character's attack being a laser 😭😭😭 im sure it was unintentional but that just reminds me of marjorie taylor greene blaming the California wildfires on "secret Jewish space lasers"
I think the "whales produce good smells" thing is referring to ambergris, which is excreted by whales (some say it's whale vomit, some say it's poop 😅🤷♂️), and is one of the most expensive ingredients in modern perfumery
Right. But if their planet always "smelled" they would eventually get used to it, because they lived with it their entire existence. It's a dumb premise. It's like, you go over to somebody's house, it has a different smell that you aren't used to, but they have no idea what you are talking about.

Yeah, I feel like they could've had way cooler designs with them, especially with Hindu and Christian imagery
@@Scio_Regis yeah, I didn't even think of that, I just know it's not a good idea to show other beliefs of the what, who, and how as bad

Apparently scientists are evil because they believe in evolution.
And that is why they fail...
That's actually a nice comment, I am inclined to agree !

Or just misguided stuff getting repeated instead of truth (and people not listening long enough to find it.)
I think Saber has a point. People are negative on the internet. We need to, as individuals, feed the ideas we want to live with, not the ones that drag us and others down, like cynicism and aggression.

The theme song says "one god" but one of them is Hindu...

It's very funny how scientists are portrayed as "villains", considering that many scientists are actually religious.
From what I read it swam they are already doing point a.
@@peachesandcream22 Yes. At least within physicists, there's tons of religious people of every creed from what I've collected.

Invisible Sky Wizard's Squad...
