- Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Matthäus-Passion BWV244
Damien Guillon alt,
Choir and Orchestra of Collegium Vocale Ghent
Direcció musical: Philippe Herreweghe
Concert - 28 de març de 2010, Kölner Philharmonie
My favourite violinist version of Erbarme Dich Beautiful tone, pitch and such good dignified timing without snatching at the short notes
Yes, the violino was what catched my attention at first
I had the privilege of singing Bach with small ensemble and I'll never forget the advice from 1st Violin: you know it's right when your entrances are at the same level as the solo violin, as though you are just another instrument. Leave that ego at the door...
The most beautiful version I've ever heard. Damien Guillon's voice is heavenly, the orchestra is more than great, the violin is devine.
Yes! Me too!
No, It is not, Otto Büchner and Julia Hamari is far the best ! ItsThe Zenit
I agree ❤️ with you.
@@leoguerra4516I couldn’t agree more!!!
@@rustemmustafa81doesn’t matter, I still think it sounds much better!
Erbarme dich, mein Gott,
Um meiner Zähren willen.
Schaue hier,
Herz und Auge
Weint vor dir bitterlich.
Erbarme dich!
Grazie infinite
❤️danke
Damien Guillon's voice is sublime. Herreweghe's interpretation of the Passion is unmatched.
it is pale and weak, without any timbre
Michael Chance's interpretation beats this performance by a mile...
Agreed!
It's absolutely my favourite too❣️
I'm done, this is too good, too smooth, just awesome, heartbreaking part of the matthäus passion, fell in love with Bach nowadays. Genius!
At last a performance that allows a proper balance between the soloist and the violin. Most egotistic soloists suppress the violin in their recordings. The music requires a dialog between them.
Listen N Stutzmann ...
Try listening to Hamari's version. You can't escape the ever-escalating race between the alto and the first violin, with Hamari's overuse of vibrato and just plain being too loud and the violinist thinking he owns the piece. With Herreweghe's style of sticking to era instruments and the subtleness of Guillon and the first violin, this is a much, much better version.
Best presentation..
Performance ever after!!! 🙏🌷💖👍👍👍
I'm speechless. This is by far the best version I found on the internet.
OK, check out M. Kozenà ;-)
for me too
tastes differ...
His voice is flatter and thinner than that of Andreas Scholl ruclips.net/video/YszmEsvI6h8/видео.html
Scholl is better
Ever since I saw Damien Guillion perform this live this is the only performance of Erbarme Dich for me :). Goosebumps every time. Crying very often :).
My favorite version in the world
The best voice, conductor, violin and orchestra! I love Bach for ever and ever, he es the music’s father
Thank you for this beautiful version.
Planet Earth is so much richer because it was visited by JS Bach - and, of course, artistes such as these.
Bach was almost lost forever!
David Brown pas
and first violonist is an angel ;)
Oh shut up you sickening nauseating twat. Visited this earth...what a 70 yr all in package holiday to live like the natives.
@@jingham2387 Hope you feel better after that nasty and uncalled for little outburst.
Voix et violon sublime interprétation, terriblement émouvante... Merci !
One of the best performances ever heard. This is the piece of my life.
the best performance of " erbarme dich" for me is from Natalie Stutzmann
Wooo Woo p
Listen to Michael Chance's version and then give it a second thought
The first violist performs with majesty and the serious decorum that the piece deserve. She is also very beautiful.
...Se puso a maldecir y a
jurar: ¡No conozco a ese hombre!
Y al instante cantó el gallo.
Entonces se acordó de las palabras
que Jesús le había dicho: "Pedro,
antes de que cante el gallo, me
negarás tres veces". Y, saliendo
afuera, lloró amargamente.
Ten piedad de mí, Dios mío,
advierte mi llanto.
Mira mi corazón
y mis ojos que lloran
amargamente ante Ti.
¡Ten piedad de mí!
Sophie Gent makes such a flawless performance. Emotional yet humble, subtle and profound, perflectly in sync Damien Guillon, she goes so well with the flow of the piece. It just really feats the theme of the song. I cannot keep my eyes off of her.
Could that be love?
yes! hers is among the very best. menhuin called it the most beautiful thing ever written for the violin - he would be pleased i think
@TheSauce Group That edit is hilarious. What's happening, a bad day ?
This is by far the most beautiful rendition I have ever heard. What a voice from heaven, wow, my god ...wow
I have heard this version and others so many times... Still the most breathtaking of all.
So beautiful, every tone hits perfectly its note - wonder if J.S.Bach ever heard such almost like heavenly singing.
beautiful violin player and extremely sharp voice , really beautiful combination which gives a live to this bach's piece
This is such a lovely performance. Beautifully controlled yet heartfelt singing.
Absolutely bewitched by this stunning performance.
"There is something transcendent about Bach's music. It doesn't matter if you're an atheist or a Jew; as any educated member of western society, it's in our blood-stream. The drama is something that, time and time again, never ceases to surprise. The crouching clergy-man would say, 'it never fails, and the reason it never fails is because it has an eternal truth. Truth is religious and you are yielding to it because you are resisting the religious belief that is in you.'

@Corona Joe It's not my quote
Finish the quote, please
What an excellent interpretation , I much prefer his voice to the feminine contralto , such depth , sensitivity , a real soul connection with the violin, the tempo is in in harmony , thank you Damien Guillon
Amongst the most beautiful versions I've heard - I was riveted!
Such a beautiful timbre! Beautiful voice!
This recording still gives me chills every time. Astoundingly beautiful
Still the most engaging version I've heard. It opens my heart every time I hear it.
Gillion song the best version ever and makes me cry everytime i listen
A most esquisite, moving performance!...a perfect balance of voice, violin and continuo....ravishing!
Much as I love many versions, I always love this passage to be in the voice of a counter tenor
I could not agree more!
Is it Peter's repentance? If so, a male voice makes sense.
So beautiful! Sophie Gent, perfect as always!
Erbarme dich: Beauty in its purest form.
There are other excellent interpretations of this aria, but, personally, I prefer this one by Demien Guillon. In my opinion, the sobriety that he vocalises emphasizes especially the emotion, the pain, of Peter's repentance
how wonderful.... one of the most touching pieces of music I know... love this performance best😊
Beautiful. Note perfect. Not too showy, but with enough ornamentation.
Best performance ever. Heavenly.
Superbe d'émotions! Herreweghe dirige magnifiquement Bach!
Bravissimo! Best performance I've ever heard
Truer than ever!Fantastic countertenor, beautifully sensitive violinist. So many versions of this sublime piece. Wonder what JSB would Make of them all.
what a perfect breath control!!!! I find it sooo hard to sing these long phrases
Can't stop to look at the passive guy in the back. Is he fighting his emotions? Is he resenting the singer? Questions, questions.
But seriously, this is such a beautiful piece.
Johannes Romp I saw the chap at the back singing in the Matthew Passion with Dunedin Consort today; he just has that facial expression!
Johannes Romp That's Malcolm Bennett, fab tenor and wonderful musician. He probably knows the camera is on him and is just keeping it simple. Maybe fighting emotions, possibly (it's all pretty staggering isn't it?) but certainly not resenting - not in his nature.
He has this look that says something like "I will stab you".
As special as this is for us, for the musicians performing it on stage it's very demanding, for both the mind and body. It requires extreme focus to sing this so beautifully. We only see the results not the work behind it :)!
lagge
I wish I could sing like that and I wish I was fluent in German ! Bwilliant performance !
Bu aşık olduğum Erbarme yi ilk defa Damien beyden dinlemekteyim. Kulakliklarimi taktım ...
Eccellente esecuzione violino solista e Voce Angelica!!Top of my listen about the Passione!!
So beautiful 🙏✨
This piece touches the bottom of my soul. It's the heart of the "Passion..."
Sublime performance
I agree 100%. You could also listen to Eddy Hazel's song "from the bottom of my soul". It will give you that same experience like it does to me when you let it come in. ruclips.net/video/T50UmHwGeSI/видео.htmlsi=c6SqPnwV1AHzgLsN
Gracias Damien, gracias Philippe y gracias violinista.
This was by far the best version ive ever hear, very moving.... Agree with the top comment...
Herreweghe always sets the right mood.
I rarely heard such a voice ... just so Bach has to sing! Just like this .. My friend, as well as I is a musician, and he finds it just as wonderful .. This voice is just as it must be. I can only emphasize that the brook was probably proud of this man!
Beautiful voice..
This is the best performance of this piece.
Mia majesto suprificate un versione absoluta artistico...un versione parare Domino!!!
J'ai decouvert Damien Guillon, c'est vraiment tres beau, parfait meme. Bravo
Damien Guillon ❤❤❤❤ el millor, el meu preferit
Many thanks. Absolutely beautiful!
this is something very very rare and special. I don't dare speak of a miracle. Or should I?
beatiful voice, best version ever
Without any doubt one of the most touching pieces ever written. I love how Tarkovsky uses it in his movies.
O so sublime. I did not want it to end so played it over and over. This is a very fine version, so clear and hauntingly beautiful. Love Bach.
Senza parole, la migliore esecuzione mai sentita
A truly gorgeous interpretation! Thank you for posting!
So beautiful.
Sublime !.. Quelle finesse...
Entendu hier à Toulouse avec le "Collegium Marianum" de Prague dans le Lamentationes Jeremiae de J.D.Zelenka.
Très applaudi.
this violin theme is everything
Hermoso y conmovedor, gracias
The pinnacle in Christian art and maybe even culture. ❤️🔥
I'd never heard a bloke doing it before.
Groovtastic!
So pure, so sweet. Goosebumps!
Godgiven talented all of them. Danke.
Sublime, divino.
Cool that they are playing on period instruments, such as the baroque violin, with baroque bow, using baroque techniques, such as no vibrato (Unless stated)
Excellent, great voice so adequate
Sophie Gent.
The best singer...That was beautiful
Simply beautiful
Insuperabile interpretazione sotto una direzione raffinata .
That voice is indeed beautiful - but its the artistic approach of most Herrweghe production that I find perfect to the point of being cold. Damien Guillon has such a warm timbre - and you should feel his plea for Erbarmen (Mercy) yet - it does not move one really, does it?
