I love that he just plays with the band. Not showing off, not being overly complicated, just perfectly suits the band, but still you hear it´s there. It´s like a supersport car cruising 80 kph... goes with the flow, but you know if he stepped on the pedal, sh*t is about to get real :-D
You said it perfectly! haha
Sometimes the "other" Mike thinks hes the frontman instead of a drummer.
@@renshammar "Primary composer of the music" is a big, big stretch.
Hey I played on this record with mike! Best drummer on planet earth
Then thank you for your service, good man. 🙏
Hey Neil! Nice to have ya here! Lol Mangini is an animal no doubt!
That Don't Bother Me solo is killer dude! I heard that Jeff wanted to record it himself but just couldn't wrap his fingers around it...any truth to that??
Hey Neil, do you still keep in touch with Aaron Randall? The dude had a fantastic voice.
I also played on this record with Mangini he was constantly in the toilet
So many different styles he can play.dream theater was lucky for him to hold the throne.
Yeah he's incredibly capable. great educator too!
For sure but I'm glad Portnoy is back to be honest. He's more than a drummer and "the chemistry" is different. Mangini got something out of it too but they definitely needed a drummer like him and there aren't that many. Marco is an incredible drummer too but he wasn't the best fit for them imo. That's assuming he really was being considered.
@@CynHickslang would have been the best choice but he didn’t want it
@@michaelglindmyer3336 Portnoy was the only choice for real. But yeah...
Now DT without him
MANGINI is the master of the DRUMIVERSE!
You aren’t wrong. 🤣
Mike Mangini is not just an amazingly talented drummer (top 10 easy), but one of the most professional!
Top 20
He is horrible
Top 10 bozos💀
@@zachwillowbay1553top 15max
He's one of the best for sure!
Mangini the master timekeeper in action! Rock on man. 😊
The man. The Legend!
Después de Vinie Paul 😉
So I’m a drummer and I was also a freelance follow spotlight operator in Denver before I started gigging full time back in the 90’s. Mangini was playing for Steve Vai for the G3 shows.
I was #1 spotlight and had to follow Vai.
Mangini was playing some crazy extended fills during a song and I slowly panned the spotlight to him. I got yelled at on the clearcom and went back to Vai. That was my little nod for all the drummers in the crowd and to the most talented dude on the stage.
Haha great story! Drummers need love too especially at those guitar shows. Very cool! 😊
Loooved Mike's work on Extreme's Waiting for the Punchline 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Yeah he’s a killer player. Definitely will land on his feet coming out of dream theater!
@@MikeHarshaw88 definitely, that whole Album is truely amazing
Paul Geary did 90% of drums on that album.
@@victorpictoraerial8560 Well 70% is correct, 3 tracks by Mike
A true tribute to a legend! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
He is a legend indeed!
I Love how he's so good and experienced, that he played this song like a machine.Leaving unnecessary flash and fills. When he's fully capable of doing that, and making sound great.
\m/ \m/
He plays what the music needs!
Mike….just wow. The snare is attached to your heart. I hear you, brother.
And he is just moving his arm a little bit, and not totally gorilla hitting it
He's kicking the shit out of those drums.
Indeed he is. Mike Mangini playing a Yamaha kit!
Mike is an unstoppable force!
You got that right!
Finally his snare doesnt sound like a wet paper bag!!!!
Since that was my snare and I tuned it I'll take that as a huge compliment! lol
MM..
The best way to grow as a musician, as a sessions player.
Definitely a good way to expand your playing!
is nobody gonna talk about how great Mangini's hair is? Goddamn its gorgeous
lol! It’s glorious.
Mike.more fit in Annihilator than Dream Theater
Magini, the Professor of drums!
Middle aged me loves this just as much as teenaged me loved this album 30 years ago.
Still a good one!
Ya know...Mike ManGENIE ought to have an Audition documentary to see what Band he will choose that is worthy of challenging his, as John Petrucci noted..."OtherWordly Drumming", though I don't know many that could successfully win. ;-) Just a thought. Bravo Zulu to you Mike on your DT Journey and 'otherworldy drumming' gift you shared with us. Carry on, Warrior!
Soon he will join the band for a long while, watch my words! 😁✊
MM will be fine after DT......
Yes he will! haha
The reunion we needed. Awesome delivery and drummer and album. Snare just collapsed my building.
Mike's smile is infectious! This is badass! That snare ripped the skin off my face! 🤩
Yeah Mike is an awesomely positive person! And yes that snare is badass! Lol
Please return to ANNIHILATOR...!!!
Mangini is amazing. Love him.
Agreed!
Snare sounds killer !
Yamaha brass!
@@MikeHarshaw88 rim shots too
The drummer who changed my whole perspective in music. You’re a true legend Mike!
Funny, I would say that about Mike Portnoy. Yin and Yang. 😆
Whyyyy?
@@Beaver-be8vk Love Portnoy as well. He's always been my favourite since growing up listening to Dream Theater.
They are both amazing in their own right. Potnoy having such anamazing smooth flow about him and Mangini being one of the most fundamentally sound drummers on the planet.
@@Beaver-be8vk, I used to say that about Portnoy, too, and then I heard Mangini play, and my whole perspective changed.
Maybe I'm wrong but it's this strength that you see in this video that always seemed to be missing in DT. Mike ia awesone!
I know what you mean. This is a heavier and more spacious song than some of the dream theater stuff so he has room to rock! Not saying he doesn’t kill it in DT though haha.
The day will come when Dream Theater will regret firing him
Time will tell. Mangini is an incredible drummer and musician but I personally preferred the dt material before he joined the band.
Love the reaction of Annihilator drummer at 4:05 Mike Mangini is priceless
Before you get exited, this is wacken 2015, no post DT shows lol
Truth. It is in the caption to be fair lol!
Incredible drummer
Yes he is!
Great drummer, this song though does not even scratch the surface with his Annihilator days.
I know the focus here is on Mangini, and as expected he nailed it, but I can't help noticing how much Jeff is not fit to the mics, I think I'll miss Dave forever.
I tend to agree. Dave was a monster vocalist!
How come his drum sound here is 100x better than with Dream Theater?
I can’t answer why but this is my kit he’s using that I tuned. So that means a lot to me you think it sounds better than DT! Lol
this whole switch from dream theater is still shocking to me. Fan of both bands. Hope is all works out well.
Isn’t this an old performance?
It was the other way around for me. I primarily knew his work with Annihilator and was very surprised when he joined Dream Theatre.
I guess my comment is irrelevant. Mangini fired and Portnoy return is all over the news. Just stunned I guess
Why shocking??
@@Topjunkie-r4sthe report never says Mangini was fired.
kit sounds so good!!!! thanks for sharing
I’m a guitarist and I appreciate that snare
Thanks man! Yamaha Brass!
Like everybody said in the comment, right on is first it on the snare, I was amazed by it. I wonder on what snare his he's playing ??
Yamaha Brass
now, mike can do what mike do later. he has much free time to do some project
Will be interesting to see what he does next!
It's nice if MM back to Annihilator
Was just a one off performance unfortunately!
Nice to see Annilihiator still active 🤘🏾😎🤘🏾
This is from 2015 but they are still active.
@@MikeHarshaw88 Sweet 🤘🏾 i saw them but a long time ago 😅
Does someone know what's the model of the snare he's playing?
It’s a Yamaha brass snare. One of the older models.
Hahahaha beating the shit out of those kicks!!!!
Oh yeahhhhh! \m/ lol
@@MikeHarshaw88 I actually started laughing when he hit the first notes. Like shotgun blasts!
*I dig how the subby low end vibrates the camera and wiggles and distorts the video slightly...*
Set it up on the subwoofer and got this effect! 😂
Timbragem linda de bateria! Mangini tocou muito bem nela. E essa bateria é show demais! ❤❤❤❤
Essa caixa está um absurdo! que timbrera pqp
Grandissimo drummer Mike ❤
This drum mix and tone sounds way better than anything live with DT.
That means a lot to me because I tuned that kit! 😊
@@MikeHarshaw88 awesome job bro!
1:38 empieza
Damn, thanks Mike...miss you on Annihilator. For the last couple of days I have been loving the idea of Mike M making a brief comeback for old times' sake.
In terms of DT, tossing Mangini with no proper farewell after 13 years was absolutely disrispectful. Good for Portnoy for coming back, dude is a huge creative influencie but Petrucci and especially JLB came out like hypocrites. But that is off topic here. Thanks for preserving something this great.
Hey thanks a lot for the kind words. And yeah it's a sticky situation. Kind of sucks for Mangini but as a huge Portnoy fan I can't help but be happy. only reason I don't think it matters is Mangini just released a solo album and probably has a ton on the go in his own world. Hopefully they parted on good terms as he's obviously an incredible player and human being!
Yep and the lead singers sucks live … i don’t care what he sounded in the passed but dude is off key/pitch live and hinders DT.. they need a better singer dude has lost it big time
WTF... This snare sound is out of this world.
Thanks brother! Yamaha Brass!
Greaaaaaat!
I loved the first 3 Albums, but sadly lost track of them because soooo mannnnyyy bands came up in 90‘ and 00‘.
One simply cannot follow every good band with it, there are too many.
Yeah there are so many bands and only so much time!
The question is "why he never used this tone at DT"?
Haha! Because this is my kit lol. Beautiful Yamaha set. I’ve never had any issue with his drum sound though.
Not enough blast beats!
lol! He should've blasted the whole song.
Early annihilator absolute goated, i love this album
The master
Mike mangini, é fora da casinha é um grande baterista .
Anyone know what that snare is??? Holy sh*t! That things sounds spectacular.
i'm guessing but looks and sounds like a Yamaha 14x6.5" Recording Custom Brass Snare
@@MrBrady85 Yup...I think you're right. We're also hearing a monitor mix, where it's been EQ'd. That's a GREAT snare (as almost all of Yammie snares are), but it does NOT sound like that out of the box. 👍
Mangini The best
Metronomes, adjust to Mike's timing...Mike is an amazing guy behind the kit...Mega talent coupled with genuine humility,is a winning combination....I consider Mike,as my 4th favorite drummer/percussionist of all time...
Dude, that is the funniest thing I have ever heard.
@@OysznFN lol
Master Mike Mangini.. Wow, biggest drummer and super cool guy.. \m/
Very very nice and humble person for how insanely talented he is!
Pretty shit he got shafted by dream theater they did the same to there original keyboard player
You mean their second keyboard player, derek? Because their original wanted to leave the band due to the musical differences.
Es gibt so viel mehr für MM als Dream Theater.
mangini looks like a healthier version of richard benson
Lmao you aren’t totally wrong.
Wtf, very well pointed
Husshht..don't tell @Steve terreberry 😅
Dude warped space and time 🥁
Weird camera effect eh? I put the camera on the subwoofer without thinking and got this lol.
Dude, you're so lucky you got to go to Wacken......hell, PLAY Wacken!
I am very grateful I got to play and go twice! :)
mike the best drummer in the world.
Old skool❤
Δυνατό! 🎶🎶 ✊
This kind of band suits him better❤
This was in 2015
What is the name of this song ?
Set the world on fire - Annihilator
Always loved this band, but every single singer has been terrible. With Jeff singing it’s even worse. I wish Belladonna did sing for them.
What is the go with DT , are they crazy ?
The real question .... what's his hair care routine?!
Shampoo, conditioner...rinse and repeat. lol
💥💥💥
Fantastic, hi from Chile
Hi from Canada!
Mike is a bad ass but this really isn't my cup of tea :(
Those drum parts were written solid all those years back!
Yes they were!
You'd think that they'd work out what song to play 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 coming on stage.
LOL! They did know what song but Jeff was explaining to him when to count the song in lol. Not totally wrong but it's cool how he just stepped on stage and did this with no rehearsals with the band!
@@MikeHarshaw88 Yeah, they're the ultimate professionals, I know that they know their shit. I was just taking the piss. 👍
@@zwastiunburzy3688 Well you can see them figuring things out at the beginning so you aren't totally wrong! lol
@@MikeHarshaw88 I can picture it in my very strange mind, with Jeff saying to Mike, "Okay Mike, I want you to count us in with a "one and a two and a three and a four and a BAM!Then hit that big round shiny thing 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 hard as we all come in.... I want this number to be a real toe tapping swinging hep tune, one that all the guys and gals can kick their heels up to, and have a real swell time!" 😂😂(sorry, told you I have strange thoughts...)
Digging the snare sound.
Me too! Time to buy a brass snare for home.
Remembering when he is in DT
Love this guy, professional and incredibly talented. Totally wasted in DT.
What do you mean wasted? Didn't you listen to the amazing stuff he did there?
@@Phant0mK16 as composer i mean, and IMO never really liked the drums sound they get from him.
While I thought Dream Theater should've been the perfect vehicle to showcase Mangini's skills...I sort've agree. Excited to see what he does next!
I want Mike and Dave Padden back.
Haha! Thank you Ronnie that means the world to me!
Unless you meant Mangini which is understandable lol!
Snare 💥💥💥💥💥💥
Yamaha Brass! \m/
Dream theater touring with Annihilator and both drummers performing DT's songs!

Vinnie was/is the man!
Eloy Cassagrande hits harder yet.
Amusia ❤👍!!
🤤🤤🤤🤤
This dude is a fricking beast!
He certainly is!
I prefer Peter Criss
Who does MM play with now?
Didn’t he play with DT at this same festival ?
Yes
He is born on a metronome !
Yes he is!
Jeff taking his time like "nahhh don't worry they will wait"
