Very important topic. I was once given the advice to treat my fictional world like a character. Know everything about it, like history, creatures, the hows and whys. It really adds to the foundation, making it easier to visualize a story/characters.
Everyone can fly, therefore no planes? By the same reasoning: everyone can walk, therefore no cars. Maybe planes are faster. Maybe they're not dependent on the person's health and stamina. Maybe they're a more practical way to travel long distances. Maybe cargo needs to be transported over long distances in bulk that would be impractical if not impossible for an individual to carry because of the weight.
Thank you, especially if they have wings their capacity to fly with armour or cargo would be very limited. If they fly with magic it could be easier but you can only have wings with so much surface before they get even more unpractical than they usually would be and only so much muscle mass to move them. In medieval-ish times the empires might be larger, though since you could probably move the troops faster or at least send fast messengers which was a huge problem back then. You'd mainly have to find a balance between armour and agility/stamina as well as figure out how to get the supplies to the frontlines quickly or otherwise have the soldiers carry some and/or get supplies from the surrounding land (which they did irl as well so I'm not sure how that'd work out overall). There is probably also different clothing, if they have wings I'd say it's quite likely that they just don't wear any kind of shirts or such in warmer areas and maybe some kind of slitted coat/cloak you can button up under the the wings in the cold? Or even a large one that goes over the wings for those that don't have a lot of physical activity to do? I'm really going to stop now or else I might end up writing an essay.
Whyt Manga this seems more like an introduction to your comic than a video about world building. Your video is complete crap. I'm sorry, but it's true.

@Whyt Manga --my biggest criticism of a good swath of manga, particularly for some reason the Shonan genre -is that it seems as if a lot of it is written by gamers --the worlds are HUGE AND COMPLEX and the author/artists spend an inordinate amount effort micro detailing every aspect of the world the story is in, like a video game -something that works great in a video game, but in a comic swallows up the story. Hey Whyt Manga, Can you do a video of tips on doing elements and superpowers in your anime and or manga I could sure use some. Because it seems like animes like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Seaven Deadly Sins, ETC have set the bar high for powers in anime and it could make or ruin your anime. So a video would be great of how to go about that topic thanks for your time.
Is apple black volume 2 out yet? If not when can i expect to read it bro? PS love your tips, and tutorials, because of it im drawing more often then I use to!
Can you make a video of how to draw back muscles? Like a character from the back to see the muscles and that stuff. Thanks in advance, I love your videos, they've helped me a lot!
Whyt, Iv'e been trying to develop my own comic book for a few years now and iv'e always had one problem. I am never satisfied with my characters. How do you go about creating 3- dimensional characters that feel realistic? It would be a big help, thanks.
Could you please elaborate on your question? It's kind of vague. Are you saying that you're unhappy with your character's appearance? That you're having trouble keeping the same style while drawing them, or that your style keeps changing? Or are you saying that the details of your characters change constantly because you keep having new ideas for how they should look or what they should have with them? Or are you saying that you're unhappy with your character's personalities and/or world in which they live? And when you say realistic, are you asking for tips on making photo-realistic characters, or do you want your character's proportions and attire to appear believable in whatever style you prefer (manga, western comics, cartoony, etc)? There's a lot of room for interpretation there, so if you could focus your question in a bit more, you'll probably get a lot more answers. I'd be happy to take a crack at answering (as long as paragraphs aren't required...god knows I'd right them, but the internet hates that shit).
I mean personality wise. As in how to make them feel like like real people. I can never seem to come up with a character that really resonates with me on an emotional level.
What I usually do is sit down with each character in my book/manga/comic and put myself (or mind in this case) in their shoes. What are they like? would I like this person is I was talking to them irl? how would my family (or someone you love) perceive them as a person if they knew them? when you can answer those questions you start to get a sense of feeling like that character can be a real person. Give them some kind of flaw, fear, or hidden past (no one can relate to a perfect or goody two-shoes character that does everything right.)
@Brendan Cave --I would say -don't worry so much of the details -the story of any comic is more important than the world around that story. The structure of any of the great stories of mankind is relatively simple that involves a protagonist who has some sort of "quest" (adventure, romance, etc), an antagonist (be that a villain, or set of circumstances) that is set to undo or impede the protagonist, the "journey" (whatever form that takes) and then the protagonist, through a combination of skill, gained insights, dumb luck, divine intervention or combination of some or all of the above, prevails victorious. Good guys win, bad guys lose (unless you are into Dark Side Endings). Bottom line is tell a great story -everything usually will fall into place.

Cameron Desroches Dude, the Rakshi were my favorite set of villians and Takanuva or Pohatu always had a place in my favorites of the Toa. In terms of story, I got myself started in 2008, so I have to say that the story arcs within that year hold a special place in my heart. (That, and the plot twist, of course.)

Whyt, I have a kind of specific question for you: in the video, I noticed you were drawing a male character with 2 buns in their hair, and based on their features they appeared to be of African decent (I realize Africa doesn't exist in the world of Apple Black, but I'm sure you understand what I mean). More specifically, I noticed that you were fully outlining their lips, as opposed to the simple indication lines you use for other characters (M-shape for the upper lips, upside-down U-shape for the lower lip, etc.). My question is this: is this always how you portray lips on African-featured characters when you draw? I am not of African decent, and I have trouble indicating the very full lips of African-descended people because I worry if I make too much indication, it will look like I'm making a racist caricature of their features and I don't intend that. As a great artist who's practiced at drawing various ethnicities, as well as someone of African decent, I would very much value your input about how best to indicate African-featured lips without the use of color (or how to draw lips in general, they're really tricky to do as well as you do). You don't have to make a video about this, just a simple comment or link to a helpful tutorial would suffice. However, if you think you could make a full video about indicating various ethnic features (Mongoloid vs Caucasoid eyes, flat vs convex foreheads, upturned vs hooked noses, etc), I would be very interested to see that! Thank you very much and have a good day/night, Whyt!
Didn't read it all coz it's too long but most cultures have similar styles but not the same, like your saying one character could have bigger lips than another. Just use a similar style for a culture
The character with 2 buns is supposed to a funny looking character, SHE is of a tribe with inspiration from places like russia. her name is Mathiilda and she's white I guess. I only emphasize on lip lines if the person has big lips white or black. darker skin toned characters are just toned in my manga thats all. Mathilda is a female with that old lunch lady hairy look, lip stick on etc, it's also funny that she can be mistaken for a man (later theres also a joke, cause she has a boy friend). There is no one way to draw anything, just do whatever you think works in your style to you.
I'm trying to create a manga and I'm having some problems...Let's say "Defining" the story. Could you tell me how you came up with the story for "Apple Black"? Did you know exactly what you wanted to happen even the small things? Did you just have a basic idea and went with that? Or did you have a beginning and have been writing everything as you go? I'd like a fast response please...Or maybe you could make a video out of it? Please and Thank You!
I'm thinking of writing a manga/comic too. My advice is to figure out the ending first, the last few pages/ panels. Then is when i try to figure out how to get there. good luck
hi, sorry commenting a little late but can u plzzz make a turtorial on how to draw noses of different style in different angles plzzz accept my request
I found this video very useful :° but the thumbnail and title a little bit misleading bc i though it to learn how to draw backgrounds i had issues with drawing backrounds :c
I have drawing background videos too. The page in the thumbnail is the same page I'm working on in the video and the title said nothing about how to draw, sorry if you felt mislead though.
yes fictional is best , start with a normal environment then build it mix it with other countries planets, for life and structures , use your environment. nice video. yes mythology.
I am trying to make a comic book/manga and it about a swordsman with an op sword and he makes a team of fighters. Do you think that is good. I love apple black
well, swordsmans in mangá in these days are kinda clichê(no offense),there is a lot of then, but if you try to make something with swordsman thing that no one did alredy(witch is not easy) it would be intrusting, wath about a swordsman that uses his sword in the wrong side?(tha would be cool),i am also making a manga,i have a lot of experience in making history, charater development(wich is SUPER important in your mangá to be a good one),but i still have a lot to learn in drawing, cuz my skills are very Basic, and i dont wana be BASIC,so try to inovate with your ideas
ahhh, i've decided. I will make my comic/manga. Being a god is what I am truly meant for. FYI: I am entirely sarcastic in regards to the comment above. Though the idea of being god does sound quite appealing, not having to pay for a mortgage is only one of the many benefits.

Out of curiosity, how comes you're using a Sakura pen rather than a G-pen when inking your characters in this video?
Whyt, how can we draw buildings?
I'm trying to create a manga and I'm having some problems...Let's say "Defining" the story. Could you tell me how you came up with the story for "Apple Black"? Did you know exactly what you wanted to happen even the small things? Did you just have a basic idea and went with that? Or did you have a beginning and have been writing everything as you go? I'd like a fast response please...Or maybe you could make a video out of it? Please and Thank You!
I'm thinking of writing a manga/comic too. My advice is to figure out the ending first, the last few pages/ panels. Then is when i try to figure out how to get there. good luck
I actually do have ending finished! I just can't come up with stuff like side characters...Maybe you think of it on the way?
are there seinens in Saturday AM
I have a question, is it possible to create made up words for a manga that's not related to any language and won't confuse the readers?

Airplanes are the short bus.

Great fucking video. I liked it.
can you tell me what thickness do you use like HB or 2B
I found this video very useful :°
but the thumbnail and title a little bit misleading bc i though it to learn how to draw backgrounds i had issues with drawing backrounds :c
I have drawing background videos too. The page in the thumbnail is the same page I'm working on in the video and the title said nothing about how to draw, sorry if you felt mislead though.
hey whyt manga i love your comic/manga can you make it a anime or animated western anime?
yes fictional is best , start with a normal environment then build it mix it with other countries planets, for life and structures , use your environment. nice video. yes mythology.
Thanks. I forgot to say that he has a very powerful sword called the angel blade.
Cool,Dont forget that he uses his sword in the wrong side
Do you have an instagram
Well,no(at least not yet)
Man, I really like that ugly-ass character you're drawing!

What if the wand is a cigarette and you accidentally smoke it?
What paper you use in this vid?
It's funny like there is no time to reintroduce himself as the creator of Apple Black and the magazine his work is featured in.

why you don't make anime of apple blake
ahhh, i've decided. I will make my comic/manga. Being a god is what I am truly meant for.
FYI: I am entirely sarcastic in regards to the comment above. Though the idea of being god does sound quite appealing, not having to pay for a mortgage is only one of the many benefits.
