Thanks for the upload and the tips!Been drawing for most of my life, and one thing i always bump into is seeing the mistakes and getting so frustrated, and not being able to shake that feeling. You can definitely see that in the following drawing etc. But realizing it's a process really really helps. Also,DON'T THROW AWAY DRAWINGS should be one of the tips as well.Use them to make revisions and apply the lessons learned on the next one.
hello I like you art style. but I got something to ask how do you draw from imagination from your mind .and how you draw poses from basic shapes it is so difficult for me i have no idea.got any tips. thanks
In the first drawing, when you kept erasing and redrawing the hand, I was literally like, "Wow that's such a good hand!....WHAT WHY WOULD YOU ERASE THAT IT WAS BEAUTIFUL....Oh wow that's even better than the other hand, it's so good- NO HE ERASED IT AGAIN COME ON THAT LOOKED AMAZING"
Don't draw from another style. That will only teach you how to draw in that style. What a lot of people don't realize is that manga artists or comic artists came up with their style drawing from life and they draw that style because it's fast for them. Draw from life and come up with your own style and make it yours! Cuz you're you! Don't try and be someone else cuz you're amazing just the way you are. That's what art is. Being yourself!
keep practicing other people's styles. I also recommend that you read interviews with manga artists where they explain how went about developing their art. This website has a bunch mangabrog.wordpress.com/ It is not true that manga artist don't copy each other, it's actually the opposite. They all copy each other, but the more you copy and practice on your own, the more of YOUR OWN style begins to show through. I recommend reading the interview with Masashi Kishimoto where he literally says he was stealing Hiroaki Samura's style when he was beginning. @ardashes najarian check out that site too
I watched this at 3 am i really want to practice now but im basically lying in bed without any strength to even get up XD *Edit below I ended up improving a shit ton during these 3 years but reached a level of burn out so big that I barely draw anymore for those who where wondering what happened after that vid
I accidentally opened a 24/7 hiphop music stream while watching your video. Damn, I just witnessed the best thing ever your voice+hiphop in the background is just way too good.
Even if you're not a big fan of Manga, this advice is universal. It applies to all art forms and styles. Gives me the inspiration I need to keep moving forward. Thanks🖒😆
Hello, Hikari, yoyo! I'm another one who is pushing toward doing manga. I have studied illustration in school and am now working slowly to develop my own manga and world right now. One thing that I do, since I am a perfectionist and a bit too self-critical towards my artwork, is to look for mistakes or shortcuts in professional work. Every artist will draw an odd-looking face or body or drop certain details from time to time. By looking for these oddities, you will not only help train your eyes and mind in identifying minute mistakes, but also will help ease your fears and realize that your favorite artists are still making mistakes despite their years of experience. They have just become better at hiding them~! Also, to launch off of what Whyt said in the video, I believe taking art classes, especially ones that are off your intended art path, will help you sharpen your skills by forcing you to tackle new kinds of art forms and techniques. Within each field of art, there is also a different approach to develop ideas and bring them to fruition. By allowing yourself to experience these differences, you will become more aware at your strengths and weaknesses in your art skills and learn new art approaches, which you can then mesh together as you develop your own approach to art. This will also help you to develop your own style later on.
Even i have this problem, if it's like i am copying kishimoto's art then it may even turn out to be above my level but when drawing self-created characters the drawing is too inconsistent
I can only draw by reference and not by imagination and it makes me mad because there's so many stuff that I could actually draw if I could draw by imagination.
If you're going for the manga style, pick up some books on anatomy. It really helps just to know how to proportion a figure correctly while putting it in different positions. If you still need to look at a picture after that, just use it for inspiration, and don't copy anything exactly.
I've followed you back those days. I remember voting for "Strawberry Black" over "Apple Black" in a title poll. It's been amazing following your journey and I can't wait to see where you go with your work in the next 6 years.
Duuuude, so much improvement. I remember back in the day, too, I was looking at your artwork like, "this guy's GOOD, I should make this a friendly rivalry." Then ... well, life happened, you know how it is. You passed me wayy up. Good news though, working at a comic shop has re-invigorated my passion. Hopefully I can keep life in check long enough to make a comic of my own and catch up! ;)
Glad to see you getting your passion back mate! Good luck mate, I'm still working hard on my projects, Saturday-AM, Apple Black, this channel! etc still pushing till we make it! :)
I’m going to rant here for a minute, but I need to express my gratitude. My father recently passed, and he was an artist. I know he enjoyed when we would draw together, and since the passing I’ve picked it back up. I hadn’t drawn for a while, but I was determined. Your videos have been so helpful in reestablishing that connection, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you so much for all your videos. The content is incredible, and you’re awesome man. Thank you.
These are all amazing words of advice. The best tip you say near the end. "Don't quit" - it's so easy to beat yourself up from a bad drawing when you're trying your best. But quitting means you'll never get better. I've started drawing again recently, my biggest wall is the "don't quit" wall - but yeah, let's do this!
I'm self taught in regards to anatomy, I look at people and myself, I look at how other artists draw and I look at the measurements of the limbs wi regards to the torso.
if you want to improve at drawing just draw a little every single day..or every other day and it does not have to be a master piece. Even sketching little doodles every day will improve your drawing ability. Don't over complicate things either, its drawing..not rocket science..learning the basics and some advanced techniques will help alot, the cool thing is you dont really even need actual professional training or anything of that sort, i am not trying to discourage anyone from going to college or anything, but a majority of what they teach is almost word for word out of books that you can purchase for literally pennies(as far as drawing/art goes lol). The most important thing is..have fun and enjoy what you are doing if drawing starts to annoy you are cause you to get stressed out..its time to take a break but dont give it up altogether. great video man.
I started drawing a comic in my freshman year as a thing for me and my friends to enjoy now im on the third volume and my art has improved beyond words and this video will help me improve more
My real problem is that I'm inconsistent. It's my personality, haha. I don't really draw unless I have a serious brainstorm. Like "I wanna draw SO BAD!" kind of brainstorm, because that's when I can draw real good. There are days when I draw better than other days. Is there anyway to get out of this kind of mindset?
Exactly my sentiments haha. I can never really consistently draw, when I feel a sudden surge of adrenaline to draw however, I get straight to it. When I'm uninspired, the quality of my work definitely gets lower (of course).
Thank you so much for these tips Whyt Manga ! I'm 16, French and i'm surprised to understand what you said in this video (like the others xD) so congrats to help someone in an other country who they don't speak currenty english....THANK YOU !
I loved watching Lovetodrawmanga and Mark Crilley when I really got into drawing in the fourth grade😅 but in 6th grade I stopped drawing from reference, and I realized that I didn’t like how the drawings looked, so I went back to the basics and watched body tutorial videos, and now my bodies look a whole lot better 😄
thanks for inspiring me. I use to draw all the time but stopped because I wasn't expecting anything from it. The one thing I got was to just have fun and turn my mind off for those precious moments I can just draw.
i love the fact that you recommend that we should draw from what we drew before for more practice and see how our skilled changed from a couple years ago or more. I also like the recommendation that you gave about trying something another artist did for practice as well.
I feel like... im at where you were at 2010. I have never seen myself close to anyones art ever, seeing this is a bit of a trip. If you tell me in 6 years i could draw like that? i'll pick my pencil back up
Great Video! I stopped drawing because I had been over whelmed by requests and people wanting to ask me how I do things. I only drew for 3 months, 3 MONTHS! I didn't take art until that year, nor did I even bother paying much attention because everything they asked me to do would always make less and less sense. So that is where RUclips came in. I watch still every now and again for art videos and just to see the new upcoming manga artists. It makes me wish that I would have just took the time to draw as much as possible to make myself confident enough to show off my artwork more. That is still a long ways away, but thank you so much for the video. I will be subscribing today so that I can get some advice from someone who can see a little more eye to eye on skill level with what I am at. (Although it is definitely about probably you 4-6 years ago.) I loved all of the amazing tips you gave because they were simple to understand and will be easy to execute. Hope you had a good Fourth of July!
@@TK-sr2hz well, due to work and having a kid now really not drawing, I am just teaching my younger siblings how to draw which is progressing fast! They draw a lot! That’s about it, surprised someone commented after 5 years 😂
That improvement was phenomenal. I always get discouraged because drawing pretty art takes time and often times I find myself rushing to finish it so I can get to the next drawing. Should take my time to plan things better.
That's pretty awesome to see that you improved your style so much in "just" 6 years it's really good ! And how much time did it take to you to know how to use Manga Studio ? I'm looking forward your next videos !
This really inspired me to keep drawing. I have been making use of every bit of time to simply just draw. I followed your steps, like using reference and making copy art to improve my art. I also like how you made references to other artists like Mark Crilley. But really thank you for making this video, it really helped.
I guess I have that classic dream to be like the next Akira Toriyama or the next Tite Kubo. So I'm trying out all my possible art styles that I can think of. Cause one I'm black... Two I'm female... So I'm all like... Ima change history! Oh god this is gonna be hard.....
yo me and you should be best friends. I feel the same way. I'm black, I'm female, the only thing is I wanna be the next Rebecca sugar/ Pendleton ward. I wanna create a cartoon rather than an anime
+Arya Stark Alright, why not! :D I'm into all types not just anime and Manga. Cartoons are cool too :D that's where I started. I was a huge fan of Sonic stuff
i really wanted to throw in something inapropriate in here to ruin the mood cuz Internet, but ill refrain from it :D good luck with your Dream! Ill wait for Black Goku, and i believe it'll be better than Black Goku from DBSuper
lmåglnåтlvê Cяêåтоя I can't see any single problem with being both black and woman. you should be proud. Nothing is "hard" just keep it up and you'll reach your dreams💙
I’m a beginner in drawing. I always hated it because I was never good at it. I’ve been drawing as much as I could kind of almost every single day. I’ve seen improvement quickly tbh but ofc im still struggling. Anyways as I was going thru RUclips and safari looking for advice and tips I came across you and man o man. You are incredible and very inspirational. This video really really helped and not only that I loveee you’re character. I hope soon enough I get to make someone as cool cause I want to make manga myself one day. Keep up the good work man
+SEBZxELITE actually if he were to blow up outside of japan that would be better comics like spawn ninja turtles xmen Spiderman witch blade has a manga adaptation because the creators work are popular like power puff girl led to ppz and the matrix led to animatrix
Wow your really good! I'm self taught and I can say with confidence that I'm...Average? My style is kinda like Hyperdimension Neptunia. Ever heard of it? I draw mostly girls...Not because I'm a pervert or I like to draw ecchi. Because it is generally harder for me to draw males...I have a lot of cool designs for male characters in my head but every time I try to draw them it looks like crap...But thanks to your video I think I'm starting to get better!
Bruh I be the same but in reverse card, I draw males better than females XD I wonder why sometimes, maybe its because female bodys are more slim and have more curvy than male bodys? I mean when i draw a male character i just draw a square then i just start drawing the T-shape body type.
I used to be the same lmao. Honestly girls are just easier to draw from the start and since it was more "rewarding" to me to draw them and have it look good, as opposed to drawing men and it looking kinda bad, I got wayyy better at drawing girls. But tbh the only way to get good at something is to practice that shit until it doesn't suck anymore. Neglecting it will only make you bad at it longer!
thank you odunze you helped me a lot, i was about to quit, but your video gave me the motivation that i needed, i promise that i will create a great comic book like yours!
I really enjoyed watching this and agree with all the points and tips you made. Drawing is like learning an instrument, the less you do it the more your skill decreases
You kinda gave me motivation to draw again and experiment! I kept drawing each character is the same position for 2 years now (that's how low my motivation was.) but now I wanna try new thing! Thank you! You got yourself another subscriber! ✨✨
True, get inspiration from what you see/read. Don't keep doing it just because someone said they liked it, and you just want to continue to get acknowledgement. Imagine if no one would ever see your work, if that makes you want to stop, then you are drawing for the wrong reasons. Draw for yourself and to get better, not to get happy-chemicals from ppl saying you are good at something
10 years!?? Are you kidding me? Unless you want to keep it as hobby or you are self employed, no ones gonna spend 10 years wasting their time on drawing. Its discouraging and unrealistic goal especially if you hate your current job and want to make your dream a reality.
This is really cool. When I first wanted to improve I started with mark crilley, and ended up improving somewhat. Then I started to improve naturally. I am also self taught but, when I watch your videos on muscles my skills improved a lot with those videos. You have become my favorite manga artist, and thank you for all of your tutorials and tips. 👍
Love Rewatching Everyone of your vids! Always Inspires me! Can’t wait to reach your level! Thanks for everything, you’ve not only helped me develop my own style but improve as an ARTIST! THANK YOU!!
I love the way you've improved! I absolutely love your style as well, it shows that you used what inspires you and draw your inspiration from to make it your own. I find that every time I draw my manga character, he almost always looks somewhat different from how I drew him in the panel before. XD I still need more practice in getting his face perfect every time.
very helpful! i feel like i have improved marginally just by listening to this while drawing. Great to see how much you have improved in such a short time!
My problem is primarily proportions. However references always help because I rarely have ever used them and they put me into a god like state. It really soes help over all. Don't be afraid to learn, and don't be afraid to adopt
Inktober got my inking skill to look nicer and bolder. So not only do I suggest doing Inktober (you don’t have to be consistent or do it everyday btw) I also suggest reading mangas or watch anime’s. I watch JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and don’t get me wrong, how the characters look, how they were inked got me inspired. A lot of ways to improve your art for sure. This is how I learned to improve, just watching JJBA lol
Your videos are amazing! You are my greatest inspiration so far and your art is awesome and I am using everything I learned from your channel to make my own Manga Series
It's not the gun, but rather the person behind the gun. People with super expensive tools doesn't mean they are better than you. What tool they are using does not determine how good they are. Even if they are good, it's because of their hard work. Also applied to you. Start with everything you have. Be creative. Practice, practice and practice. That's all you need. You art style will change. How good you are or how professional you are, there is always a room for improvement.
Great video man! I used to draw manga during summer when 7th grade started and it became a tradition. because it helped m3 drew poses for different situations i wouldnt normally draw. although i stopped because of conflicting schedules i recently returned to drawing when my teacher gave me a graphic tab as a christmas gift. I can say that it made me look deeper on what i can improve on. Tutorials such as these helps alot. Keep it up!
As soon as he said that you can not improve in 2 days i just paused the video. You can improve in 2 days. Trust me, i improved in 1 day actually. You won't be really good but you will improve in 2 days depending how much you wanna improve
I get that lol my problem when I was younger when I started studying the anime style was I wanted to get to their level so fast without steps xD I've only ever taken classes on light and shadow value and anatomy I studied the anime style for 11years or so. Watching really helps especially someone more experienced. Great video :)
Watch me Re-draw my art from 2010 with my level of skill now in 2016 and learn to Improve your art skills!

Don't draw from another style. That will only teach you how to draw in that style. Been drawing Manga for most of my life, now I'm at university taking a course on creating comics/manga for a living. Is that stagnate?
I've followed you back those days. I remember voting for "Strawberry Black" over "Apple Black" in a title poll. It's been amazing following your journey and I can't wait to see where you go with your work in the next 6 years.

wow i didnt think i would actually watch the whole 33 min video without skipping or just dropping it altogether. watching you draw was mesmerizing
Nice tips mate, keep up the good work.
To see your progression and consistency from 2010 to now is a huge confidence booster.
the difference in your picture of the character at the end is like a ps2 graphics compared to a ps4, much improved lol.
thank you
i have learned more things now and i am now more confident to try again with drawing more challenging pictures and branch out to new things
Holy snot rocket i saw your book at my library
Hows ir art now
@@TK-sr2hz well, due to work and having a kid now really not drawing, I am just teaching my younger siblings how to draw which is progressing fast! They draw a lot! That’s about it, surprised someone commented after 5 years 😂
Your art style looks similar to Bleach ^ - ^)/
That improvement was phenomenal. I always get discouraged because drawing pretty art takes time and often times I find myself rushing to finish it so I can get to the next drawing. Should take my time to plan things better.
Your art-style looks very "Bleach" influenced in this video
Highlighting with black pen is so satisfying....Wish that was a profession. Professional Manga highlighter. Id so do.
I was a huge fan of Sonic stuff
i really wanted to throw in something inapropriate in here to ruin the mood cuz Internet, but ill refrain from it :D
good luck with your Dream! Ill wait for Black Goku, and i believe it'll be better than Black Goku from DBSuper
lmåglnåтlvê Cяêåтоя I can't see any single problem with being both black and woman. you should be proud. Nothing is "hard" just keep it up and you'll reach your dreams💙
lmåglnåтlvê Cяêåтоя who cares about gender or race ?
I’m a beginner in drawing. I always hated it because I was never good at it. I’ve been drawing as much as I could kind of almost every single day. I’ve seen improvement quickly tbh but ofc im still struggling. Anyways as I was going thru RUclips and safari looking for advice and tips I came across you and man o man. You are incredible and very inspirational. This video really really helped and not only that I loveee you’re character. I hope soon enough I get to make someone as cool cause I want to make manga myself one day. Keep up the good work man
i'm the same
i was terrible at drawing but ive been improving and i just made my first manga on my channel
would u mind checking it out?
Could you please do some twitch livestreams? :)
+SEBZxELITE officially considered.
+Whyt Manga yay
King Likey Not to be a buzz-kill but its very unlikely unless his manga blows up in Japan.
+King Likey yeah I've the west was like Japan a lot of comics manga would get an animation adaptation
+SEBZxELITE actually if he were to blow up outside of japan that would be better comics like spawn ninja turtles xmen Spiderman witch blade has a manga adaptation because the creators work are popular like power puff girl led to ppz and the matrix led to animatrix
what's funny is I've been doing this for a while but not for improving it but to see how I've progressed. Great video by the way.
( draws something amazing, draws again, its more crappier then the first.)
I think honestly reading a lot of manga and practicing daily is a good way to improve. It all comes with time. Love ur vid
Bruh I be the same but in reverse card, I draw males better than females XD
I wonder why sometimes, maybe its because female bodys are more slim and have more curvy than male bodys? I mean when i draw a male character i just draw a square then i just start drawing the T-shape body type.
I used to be the same lmao. Honestly girls are just easier to draw from the start and since it was more "rewarding" to me to draw them and have it look good, as opposed to drawing men and it looking kinda bad, I got wayyy better at drawing girls. But tbh the only way to get good at something is to practice that shit until it doesn't suck anymore. Neglecting it will only make you bad at it longer!
Looking at your art work now it's gotten even better than these from 4 years ago it's amazing keep it up
6:31 Saitama confirmed.
I think you're one of my newest favorite channels you have gained yet ANOTHER sub! I am going to keep watching your channel in order to improve :)
Ryuzaki be having dat bad bleach haircut.
thank you odunze you helped me a lot, i was about to quit, but your video gave me the motivation that i needed, i promise that i will create a great comic book like yours!
usually, when I start with a new manga style, it just gets WORSE over time...
NOT TODAY!
Ikr same
I really enjoyed watching this and agree with all the points and tips you made. Drawing is like learning an instrument, the less you do it the more your skill decreases
+ArchAngel Manga :)
am Good At drawing the hole anime guy.. But I Always Put The eyes in a bad position
so if anyone can recommend for me a tutorial that will be Cool
I'm the exact polar opposite, I position eyes well etc. but the overall body, especially the fingers look like a potato
+TigerSn1ps 😂
+TigerSn1ps just draw shoulders they r so ez u will thx me with a bj l8r also i that was a ligit tip im not kidding i know i sounded like i was XD
I mean yeah, but if I wanna do a full body, the fingers can't be potatoes
I agree; I can't draw the eyes right, yet everything else well enough.
You kinda gave me motivation to draw again and experiment! I kept drawing each character is the same position for 2 years now (that's how low my motivation was.) but now I wanna try new thing! Thank you! You got yourself another subscriber! ✨✨
Me: * inspired to draw *
later: * tries to draw *
Me: I know I can do it
Me: draws a stick man * yay!! *
And I'll be back... Real soon😂😂😂😂 I wonder if anybody got that reference
Khidd silly *pupil glows red*
I love your lines! they're so clean and unflat!
10 years!?? Are you kidding me?
Unless you want to keep it as hobby or you are self employed, no ones gonna spend 10 years wasting their time on drawing. Its discouraging and unrealistic goal especially if you hate your current job and want to make your dream a reality.
Hades Gremory It takes so long really
it takes passion
Then it's gunna stay a dream.
That's why so many people fail to become what they want to be. They are not willing to put enough effort into working toward to what they want to be.
I agree 10 years is a little bit excessive
You are as Mike Crilley is to you, to me! Honestly I learn lots from ur videos and I adore your art style!
Lol, in comparison, it looks like your style went from Bleach to HXH
Exactly! Original artwork. Huuuge inspiration.
Dude your videos are so inspiring I am a young artist trying to get better but I feel that I will never surpass you
Your art is incredible. I love seeing your progress!
You inspired me to come out of a block an just try again. Thnx a lot man. Apple blacks a great series. Keep it up
This is really cool. 👍
Love your video my dude! Legit started getting better at my drawing while I was listening/watching your video lol
Love Rewatching Everyone of your vids! Always Inspires me! Can’t wait to reach your level! Thanks for everything, you’ve not only helped me develop my own style but improve as an ARTIST! THANK YOU!!
I've only just started drawing and your tutorials are the best, you've done a tutorial on everything I've wanted to learn and your art is amazing 👍🏽
Great to see how much you have improved in such a short time!
thanks a lot dude. life hit me hard today, until i watch this video. IT REALLY MOTIVATES ME. thanks for uploading this kind of vid
These tips are the best tips. So much videos, almost tells me the same thing tysm!
My problem is primarily proportions. However references always help because I rarely have ever used them and they put me into a god like state. It really soes help over all. Don't be afraid to learn, and don't be afraid to adopt
RUclips is something that you do well at Whyt. Keep it up!
+Sean Sims (Seandark11) Thank you!
Eh, it could do without that mic tapping sound and the music (especially for voiceovers, don't want to put anyone to sleep)
If I study my favorite artist I would be studying you, you are so good! Keep on going man!
I just want to tell you that i really appreciate the videos you make. They've been really helpful!
thank you, this gave me confidence to draw without fear any mistake, just like you said, mistake is important in order to improve,
WOW! Your style is amazing, LOVE it!!! :)
JONATHAN JOESTAR **chivalrous music plays**
Inktober got my inking skill to look nicer and bolder. So not only do I suggest doing Inktober (you don’t have to be consistent or do it everyday btw) I also suggest reading mangas or watch anime’s. I watch JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and don’t get me wrong, how the characters look, how they were inked got me inspired. A lot of ways to improve your art for sure. This is how I learned to improve, just watching JJBA lol
Thus perfect for a beginner like me, thanks. Btw I also enjoy Mark Crilley.😊
Long live the bic lead pen! Yeah, i agree repetition is a key component of sequential art.
Keep it up!
To be honest, Apple black looks dope as fuck! I'm definitely looking into it- as an artist and an anime fan I absolutely love this channel!
Before he added hair he looked like Saitama. Awesome art style. Seeing your improvement is amazing.
Thanks for the tips. Waiting for the 2nd volume so i can add to the collection :D
Maaaaan i loved the background music as well as the tips in the video😍
Glad you liked it!!
