When I went for my prostate biopsy, the surgeon asked what my favourite music was. I replied Pink Floyd. I was sent under to 'Comfortably Numb. Absolutely surreal!!!!
Hello! I am 63 and I also listen a lot to Pink Floyds music. What, if anything, does this song mean to you? Does it have message, do you think? 😊 Have a nice day, sir!
David Gilmour doesn't just play the guitar, he feels the guitar, he broadcasts the guitar, David makes the guitart broadcast feelings, what David did to and for this song truly transcends much much more than just playing a song, true musical perfection and David goes about it so humbly
David Gilmour is one of the GOATs. Sitting my head right now, not understanding how someone can not just play an instrument, but own it the way he does.
@@jibguy2003 Many will learn the skills to play well and even more technical than Gilmour if they put in the time. Not many will be able to create solos that grab you and provide an emotional response like this. Putting the two together is what separates musicians like Gilmour.
Nobody can make a guitar weep quite like David Gilmour, it’s mesmerizing! I’ve been listening since the 70’s, and I never grow tired of Pink Floyd’s body of work. They will undoubtedly be remembered for a long, long time.
I still think the studio version is the greatest solo ever and this live version is another amazing performance. So far as making a guitar weep, I would have to put Gary Moore up there as my top pic, Gary and "Greeny" were SUBLIME !
I hear you. Born 1961, Wern't we lucky!!! Pink Floyd, Deep purple Led Zeppelin ..The 60s 70s and maybe 80s They were the times to be growing up! Other people have no idea
Yep. As a youngster back in the 70"s I bought my first double vinyl done by Pink Floyd. Despite listening to this version done by David probably HUNDREDS of time over the years the magic still works. GOOSE BUMPS!
I saw Pink Floyd at the Orange Bowl 1988. I was in the 3rd row right in front of David Gilmour and during this solo it started to rain. it was magical!
I thought I would get through that solo this time, But at the very end of it when the music stopped I thought I've done it, And then I started to cry. Thank God for the gift that he gave David Gilmore, Because we're receiving a big piece of it ourselves. The one good thing I've got out of being 72 is my old rock and roll from the 60s and 70s, Thank you Lord☮️☮️☮️🤟🤟🤟
The magnum opus of all guitarists, and Pink Floyd the magnum opus of all groups, Set the bar so high . Listened with a bunch of flatmates in 1973 to Dark Side of the Moon and we all sat there dumbstruck in total awe of the quality, uniqueness, and technical excellence of the music. They never stopped.
As they were “putting me under” before a heart procedure I requested comfortable numb by Floyd and the nurse on the team played it for me as I was drifting off! I’ll never forget that! Awesome Doctor and a great team! Saved my life also! Thanks to all!
I never just drift off. I'm laying there looking up at the lights then the next second I'm in the recovery room and look at the clock and it's a few hours later. No drifting off for me, it's a switch, a time machine.
I had to have a MRI on my right shoulder early in 23 .When the tech went to put me in the tube he asked if I wanted to listen to music instead of the hammering sound of the machine, I told him sure. He put a set of headphones on me after I told him some Floyd , lo and behold here comes Comfortably Numb . Was told I had to have a total shoulder joint replacement , but cardiologist still have it on hold because of blood thinners from stents in November of 22 . Ah the joys and fun of getting old .
We All Know What Gilmour can do (what he is!) and Not “Just” for the guitar work but also as a brilliant Vocalist, But that guy on the Drums is Incredible!😮👍
Closest thing I’ve heard yet to matching the Pulse version. Just amazing I wonder if he is transported to another place while playing like we are while listening?
Gilmour's solo takes all of the darkness, despair and hopelessness expressed in the lyrics, ramps them up to 11 and drives it like a stake through your soul. Pure artistic genius.
Brilliant, i was privelaged to have seen them live 50 years ago on their Dark side of the moon tour , what an awesome band and their legendary music will go on and listened to for another 50 years
The smile on drummers face when he knows the solo is coming up, it's magical. Being part of that is something few will ever have the fortune to experience
Andy Latimer of Camel does. Watch Ice, Stationary Traveller or Lunar Sea. And Steve Hackett. Watch Firth of Fifth or Every Day. And Steve Rothery. Watch Easter or Jigsaw. Gilmour's excellent, but others are at least as good.
Exquisite, sublime, unmatched. There are simply not enough superlatives to adequately describe how good this is. When my time comes to an end and I depart this world it will be to this masterpiece.
Saw this masterpiece in Winnipeg on the 1st July 1994. Had to divert air traffic at the airport due to lasers being used during concert. Still to this day the greatest concert I’ve ever seen. Magical.
My boy used to mock me for listening to the floyd, now he's in his teens, has it all on vinyl, and the other day I heard him playing and singing wish you were here on his twelve string from the other side of his bedroom door, my job as a parent is finally coming to fruition!
Always amazes me, no matter how many hundred times I have listened to it. Personally, I think the one in the Pulse live record is the absolute best version of the solo.
I sat and listened to Roy Harper tell a story of what it was like to be on stage with Dave Gilmore, basically compared it to the same force as a solar wind.
We’ve been blessed as a society to have listened and seen these magical moments by absolute masters of their crafts. Like sitting in the back of the Sistine Chapel watching Michelangelo do his thing in real time. Breathtaking!!
Some of the greatest lead guitarist ever came from England, Mr Gilmore was certainly in the top 5 all time! I was born in the 1960's and was lucky enough to grow up 2 miles from Alpine Valley Concert Theatre in East Troy WI. I have literally seen hundreds of shows lilve, but these guys as well as Led Zeplin were all done then. I missed them at Milwaukee County Stadium, but some friends went and tripped all night! Just legendary! One of the best guitar solo's ever written, and Britain produce alot of them! I personally love Maiden, but these guys gave Maiden the beginnings of their greatness! Just geniuses!
Agree 100% with the title. Not a big fan of Pink Floyd but came across this performance a few years ago. Simply the greatest live solo I have ever heard. No fast showing off. Just playing the right notes in the right way.
When you have all the excellent musicians as Pink Floyd represents here, Mr. Gilmore shines ever so brightly as they all give the epicness of this show, by far it will go down in the annuals of history. 🤙🌈🏝️
There is many world class guitarists the list is long , but i do believe without a doubt David stands way above them all in Talent he is on another planet when he plays 😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I was lucky enough to see them live over 30 years ago, it changed my life, Pink Floyd don't make music, they write the soundtrack to the lives of those who know how to listen to them..
Featuring the happiest drummer in the world. Every shot of him, the dude is just loving life.
Yup, if he smiled any harder, he'd hurt his face!
I think he was finally promoted.
Same with Guy Pratt on bass. They know they are in the presence of a musical god
He knows he just locked down his place in music history, with distinction.
Love this drummer 🎉
When I went for my prostate biopsy, the surgeon asked what my favourite music was. I replied Pink Floyd. I was sent under to 'Comfortably Numb. Absolutely surreal!!!!
You're lucky. I got no anesthetic or Pink Floyd.
I had also a prostate biopsy last year but, unfortunately, no music at all !!
I hope they knock me out next time I need one of those biopsies 😬
How apt

David Gilmour is one of the GOATs. Sitting my head right now, not understanding how someone can not just play an instrument, but own it the way he does.
